  • OS X: How to force traffic through a specific SOCKS proxy on a per-app basis?

    I'm running a certain desktop app (actually via AIR if it makes any difference) which doesn't have any built-in proxy configuration settings. I need to get all traffic just from this app directed through a secure SOCKS proxy. This implies I can't use the global network preferences, as these would affect many other apps. Is there any way to force all network communication through a given SOCKS proxy on a per-app basis?

  • Alternative to Outlook 2007 to sync with BlackBerry?

    Hello I installed Outlook (2007) since it's the most used PIM that can sync with a BlackBerry, but I find its UI ugly, and the different dialogs contain way too much items for my use. Does someone know of a good alternative? Ideally, it should be able to sync with BlackBerry directly, but I can live with one that goes through Outlook for synchronization. FWIW, I prefer desktop applications to eg. Google apps. Thank you.

  • Is there a way to password protect a windows application on Windows 7 without changing the exe?

    I want to password-protect a few applications (not just files/folders) on Windows 7, such that, there is no change to the protected application's .exe file itself. Since the .exe files can't be changed, "Empathy" and "Protect Exe" can't be used as they change the .exe file. I tried using WinGuard Pro and LockThis! also but they don't work for Microsoft Outlook and some other apps (that I need). Is it possible at all? Please help.

  • Galaxy Tab 3 producing continuous LightSensor error in LogCat

    I am using a Galaxy Tab 3 as a test device for writing an android app. As such I'm interested in the output of the LogCat which is being filled with these error level messages. The device itself appears to work correctly, apps which rely on the light sensor correctly respond to it and the number in the error itself goes down if the light sensor is obscured. If I wasn't using it to develop apps I wouldn't even be aware of the issue but I believe it is an issue with the device itself not my app: simply plugging the tab 3 into the computer and using Eclipse - ADT to look at the LogCat without any app running leads to these errors being shown. I know I could filter the LogCat to ignore these errors but inconvenience aside; they concern me. A sample of the log cat is below (it generates errors continuously). This is on verbose so it includes some debug level (D/) messages as well as the error level messages (E/).   • On ubuntu 10.04, what is the recommended RoR stack?

    I can't find clear answers / methods on this. As seen elsewhere, passenger and RoR under apache gobble up ram on my VPS. I've tried a multitude of stacks and implementations, currently resting on a sub optimal apache/cgi/rails configuration, which has swapped my ram usage for CPU time and slow response to requests. Can anyone recommend an efficient and preferably simple to administer method of setting up rails apps in ubuntu 10.04 server?

  • Possible reasons for high CPU load of taskmgr.exe process on VM?

    On a VMware virtual machine which has severe performance problems I can see a constant average of 20+ percent CPU load for the TASKMGR.EXE (task manager) process. The apps running on this server have lower load, around 4 to 10 percent average. The VM is running Windows 2003 Server Standard with 3.75 GB assigned RAM. I suspect that the task manager CPU load has something to do with other VM instances on the VMWare server but could not see a similar value on internal ESXi systems (the problematic VM runs in the customers IT).

  • What causes "system call failed" and there are hanging ie processes?

    System: Windows 7 Home Premium IE: 11.0.9600.17107 When I have had many, many apps and windows open, sometimes I'll try to access a folder and get a dialog that says "System Call Failed". I have found the fix for it is to open the task manager and End Process Tree on iexplore.exe and iexplore.exe *32. Often times there will be several of these even when I have closed all my browser windows. Does anyone have any experience with this error?

  • Don't show hidden applications when using Command-Tab

    Hi, I'm wondering if there's a way to not show hidden applications in the list of running apps when using Command-Tab ? LiteSwitch (http://www.proteron.com/) sort of does what I want, except it grays out hidden applications, but I want them to not appear at all. I use hidden applications as a sort of 'I'll get to later, or don't bother me now' method, so it would be great if Command-Tab could honor that (the same was Expose does). Thanks.
