• ObjectContext.SaveChanges() fails with SQL CE

  I am creating a model-first Entity Framework 4 app that uses SQL CE as its data store. All is well until I call ObjectContext.SaveChanges() to save changes to the entities in the model. At that point, SaveChanges() throws a System.Data.UpdateException, with an inner exception message that reads as follows: Server-generated keys and server-generated values are not supported by SQL Server Compact. I am completely puzzled by this message. Any idea what is going on and how to fix it? Thanks. • Unknown error sourcing a script containing 'typeset -r' wrapped in command substitution

  I wish to source a script, print the value of a variable this script defines, and then have this value be assigned to a variable on the command line with command substitution wrapping the source/print commands. This works on ksh88 but not on ksh93 and I am wondering why. $ cat typeset_err.ksh #!/bin/ksh unset _typeset_var typeset -i -r _typeset_var=1 DIR=init # this is the variable I want to print When run on ksh88 (in this case, an AIX 6.1 box), the output is as follows: $ A=$(. ./typeset_err.ksh; print $DIR) $ echo $A init When run on ksh93 (in this case, a Linux machine), the output is as follows: $ A=$(. ./typeset_err.ksh; print $DIR) -ksh: _typeset_var: is read only $ print $A ($A is undefined) The above is just an example script. The actual thing I wish to accomplish is to source a script that sets values to many variables, so that I can print just one of its values, e.g. $DIR, and have $A equal that value. I do not know in advance the value of $DIR, but I need to copy files to $DIR during execution of a different batch script. Therefore the idea I had was to source the script in order to define its variables, print the one I wanted, then have that print's output be assigned to another variable via $(...) syntax. Admittedly a bit of a hack, but I don't want to source the entire sub-script in the batch script's environment because I only need one of its variables. The typeset -r code in the beginning is the error. The script I'm sourcing contains this in order to provide a semaphore of sorts--to prevent the script from being sourced more than once in the environment. (There is an if statement in the real script that checks for _typeset_var = 1, and exits if it is already set.) So I know I can take this out and get $DIR to print fine, but the constraints of the problem include keeping the typeset -i -r. In the example script I put an unset in first, to ensure _typeset_var isn't already defined. By the way I do know that it is not possible to unset a typeset -r variable, according to ksh93's man page for ksh. There are ways to code around this error. The favorite now is to not use typeset, but just set the semaphore without typeset (e.g. _typeset_var=1), but the error with the code as-is remains as a curiosity to me, and I want to see if anyone can explain why this is happening. By the way, another idea I abandoned was to grep the variable I need out of its containing script, then print that one variable for $A to be set to; however, the variable ($DIR in the example above) might be set to another variable's value (e.g. DIR=$dom/init), and that other variable might be defined earlier in the script; therefore, I need to source the entire script to make sure I all variables are defined so that $DIR is correctly defined when sourcing.

  I need some help in bison grammar construction. From my another question: I'm trying to make a meta-language for writing markup code (such as xml and html) wich can be directly embedded into C/C++ code. I need to build an interpreter to translate this code to html and posteriorly insert it into C, so that it can be compiled. The C part stays intact. Inside the wdi source it is not necessary to use prints, every return statement will be used for output (in printf function). The program's output will be clean html code. The task is to find all items directly or indirectly connected to this item that satisfy a certain function. So the basic algorithm is like this: Add the start to the result list. • Multiple ToggleButton image with different highlight image in WPF

  I am very new to WPF and needed some pointers as to why this is not working correctly. I am trying to make a maximize button that will change to a restore button when clicked. I thought a toggle button with 2 different styles that would be changed in the code behind could work. I am first trying to get the maximize button working and have ran into a problem. I get the error 'System.Windows.Controls.Image' is not a valid value for the 'System.Windows.Controls.Image.Source' property on a Setter. in my xaml. I seem to be not understanding something completely. • TFS and shared projects in multiple solutions

  Our .NET team works on projects for our company that fall into distinct categories. Some are internal web apps, some are external (publicly facing) web apps, we also have internal Windows applications for our corporate office users, and Windows Forms apps for our retail locations (stores). Of course, because we hate code reuse, we have a ton of code that is shared among the different applications. Currently we're using SVN as our source control, and we've got our repository laid out like this: - = folder, | = Visual Studio Solution -SVN - Internet | Ourcompany.com | Oursecondcompany.com - Intranet | UniformOrdering website | MessageCenter website - Shared | ErrorLoggingModule | RegularExpressionGenerator | Anti-Xss | OrgChartModule etc... So.. The OurCompany.com solution in the Internet folder would have a website project, and it would also include the ErrorLoggingModule, RegularExpressionGenerator, and Anti-Xss projects from the shared directory. Similarly, our UniformOrdering website solution would have each of these projects included in the solution as well. We prefer to have a project reference to a .dll reference because, first of all, if we need to add or fix a function in the ErrorLoggingModule while working on the OurCompany.com website, it's right there. Also, this allows us to build each solution and see if changes to shared code break any other applications. This should work well on a build server as well if I'm correct. In SVN, there is no problem with this. SVN and Visual Studio aren't tied together in the way TFS's source control is. We never figured out how to work this type of structure in TFS when we were using it, because in TFS, the TFS project was always tied to a Visual Studio Solution. The Source Code repository was a child of the TFS Project, so if we wanted to do this, we had to duplicate the Shared code in each TFS project's source code repository. As my co-worker put it, this "breaks every known best practice about code reuse and simplicity". It was enough of a deal breaker for us that we switched to SVN. Now, however, we're faced with truly fixing our development processes, and the Application Lifecycle Management of TFS is pretty close to exactly what we want, and how we want to work. Our one sticking point is the shared code issue. We're evaluating other commercial and open source solutions, but since we're already paying for TFS with our MSDN Subscriptions, and TFS is pretty much exactly what we want, we'd REALLY like to find a way around this issue. Has anybody else faced this and come up with a solution? If you've seen an article or posting on this that you can share with me, that would help as well. As always, I'm open to answers like "You're looking at it all wrong, bonehead, HERE'S the way it SHOULD be done.

• How do I remove the namespaces in Zend_Soap?

  Hi There I am trying to use the tranlsation webservice from MyMemory: http://mymemory.translated.net/doc/spec.php Unfortunately, Zend_Soap_Client does generate an XML reqest object that is not recognized by the service. I guess it is because of the ns1-Attribute (Namespace) within the tags. So does anyone know how to remove them? • Firefox logs invalid URL?

  I'm writing an extension for firefox. Using dom.location to keep track of visited search results pages, i'm getting this url http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=hi&aq=f&aqi=&oq=&fp=642c18fb4411ca2e . If you click it, the google search results for "hi" should come up. You'll know that from the title bar - because the rest of the page won't load. This happens with any google search. Oddly enough, if you cut part of it off, so say, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=hi - it works! But Googling "hi" myself does give me a longish URL - http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=hi&aq=f&aqi=&oq=&fp=db658cc5049dc510 . I know for a fact that the first time that URL was visited, the page loaded, I did it myself. Can anyone make reason out of this? I just tried my experiment again, this time saving the original URL in the location bar. It turns out, dom.location.href is giving a different value. How is this happening? • Reusing xalan transformer causing its extension functions break

  I am using xalan 2.7.1 to validate my xml docs with xslt style sheet. It works fine for the first document and returns error message in case of error along with correct line and column number of xml source by making use of NodeInfo.lineNumber and NodeInfo.columnNumber extensions. The problem is when I try to reuse transformer to validate other xml docs, it successfully transforms the document but always returns lineNumber=columnNumber=-1 for all errors. Any idea? • Installing my sdist from PyPI puts the files in the wrong places

My problem is that when I upload my Python package to PyPI, and then install it from there using pip, my app breaks because it installs my files into completely different locations than when I simply install the exact same package from a local sdist. Installing from the local sdist puts files on my system like this: /Python27/ Lib/ site-packages/ gloopy-0.1.alpha-py2.7.egg/ (egg and install info files) data/ (images and shader source) doc/ (html) examples/ (.py scripts that use the library) gloopy/ (source) This is much as I'd expect, and works fine (e.g. my source can find my data dir, because they lie next to each other, just like they do in development.) If I upload the same sdist to PyPI and then install it from there, using pip, then things look very different: /Python27/ data/ (images and shader source) doc/ (html) Lib/ site-packages/ gloopy-0.1.alpha-py2.7.egg/ (egg and install info files) gloopy/ (source files) examples/ (.py scripts that use the library) This doesn't work at all - my app can't find its data files, plus obviously it's a mess, polluting the top-level /python27 directory with all my junk. What am I doing wrong? How do I make the pip install behave like the local sdist install? Is that even what I should be trying to achieve? Details I have setuptools installed, and also distribute, and I'm calling distribute_setup.use_setuptools() WindowsXP, Python2.7.   I wish to improve my code and file structure in larger Win32 projects with plenty of windows and controls. Currently, I tend to have one header and one source file for the entire implementation of a window or dialog. This works fine for small projects, but now it has come to the point where these implementations are starting to reach 1000-2000 lines, which is tedious to browse. And when I finally find a CreateWindowEx statement, the window proc is nowhere to be found. Any advice on how to structure all the code while remaining sane would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! I don't wish to use any libraries or frameworks as I find the Win32 API interesting and valuable for learning. Any insight into how you structure your own GUI code could perhaps serve as inspiration.

• embedded Italic, bold fonts don't look the same in flex as in Windows...

  ...unless they're something like "Times New Roman" or some other established font with a fully designed italic and bold, presumably in seperate files. Let me explain what I mean (though why no one has commented on this before I have no idea.) Numerous, numerous fonts do not have a seperate file for italic and bold, and in fact to the best of my knowledge don't even have italic and bold defined as such. But if you install them on windows (for example) and then use them in an app, You can still make use of italic and bold with those fonts. For italic, and oblique angle is just given to it, presumably by Windows, and it looks the same in all Windows apps, and the bold is just given a heavier weight. OK, well here's the problem: if you embed a font like that in a Flex app, as a "SystemFont" the italic and bold will not look the same as they do in Windows. Specifically, the oblique angle is invariably much less than in Windows (i.e the italic slant is much less) and the bold version is not bold enough. I vaguely recall thinking that there was some flex mechanism to assign custom oblique angles for italic (and weight for bold) but now can't recall what it is. Does anyone know the correct established way to do this. The following is actually a seperate (but related) font question (in case anyone is expert in all this.) Its rather a lengthy question and can be skipped, but its something that's plagued me for a long time. If you try to embed one of the aformentioned single file fonts as a Source file (as opposed to SystemFont) and specify fontStyle='italic', then the mxmlc compiler will return an error and say there is no italic info in the font file. So up to now I have only been embedding these fonts as "SystemFont". The problem is, flex uses two different font compilers internally for Source embedding and SystemFont embedding. For source font embeds it uses the "Batik" compiler and for SystemFont, the JRE (Java Runtime) font compiler. Well actually the Batik is considered a superior compiler and generally produces better looking fonts. And also if you mix normal fonts compiled with Batik and italic compiled with JRE, sometimes the line spacing is different for the two, and it doesn't look right. So does anyone have an idea how to get mxmlc to do italic and bold for these single file fonts when embedding as "Source". Would there be a way using C++ or whatever to construct an "italic" font file from the SystemFont for such a font in windows.

• RMI applet is making requests on random ports and blocked consequently
