• Directing from a 1und1 hosting solution, with urls intact

  I have done this before on GoDaddy without a hitch, but I cannot seem to figure out this particular case. I have a domain space with temporary url http://yogainun.mysubname.com/ and am hosting the domain name that is to be applied to it at 1und1.de. Right now I have set it up so that from the 1und1 domain name hosting the address http://www.yoga-in-unternehmen.de/ is frame redirected to the subdomain that I just referred to. But this is not what I want. http://www.yoga-in-unternehmen.de/ is to be the domain. With the frame redirect, url's like http://www.yoga-in-unternehmen.de/example-article do not show up. But this is what I want. With godaddy in a similar case, I just turned on DNS and changed the name servers. That worked without problem, but with 1und1 not. Is there something I am missing?

• SSL to SSL Redirects in IIS - Possible?

  We have a situation where we would like to redirect https://service1.domain.com to https://service2.domain.com. I know this is very simple with http endpoints, but I'm not too sure about https. We have some legacy windows application web service clients that will not be updating their software version soon, and we cannot update their web references to https://service2.domain.com. Is there any way to leave these web service clients pointing to https://service1.domain.com, but have their requests forwarded to (and responded to by) https://service2.comain.com? The old server is running IIS 6.0. The new server is running IIS 7.0. We could probably upgrade it to 7.5 if needed, but I'm not certain. We could also probably make a seamless transition of the old web service to a new server using public DNS, but we cannot change the DNS name of "service1.domain.com." Thanks ServerFault!

In this article, we show how to use LINQPad to connect to QuickBooks using the RSSBus ADO.NET Provider for QuickBooks. Although this example uses the QuickBooks Data Provider, the same process applies to any of our ADO.NET Providers. Create the Data Model Step 1: Download and install both the Data Provider from RSSBus and LINQPad (available at www.linqpad.net Step 2: Create a new project in Visual Studio and create a data model for it using the ADO.NET Entity Data Model wizard. Step 3: Create a new connection by clicking "New Connection", specify the connection string options, and click Next. Step 4: Select the desired tables and views and click Finish to create the data model. Step 5: Right click on the entity diagram and select 'Add Code Generation Item'. Choose the 'ADO.NET DbContext Generator'. Step 6: Now build the project. The generated files can be used to create a QuickBooks connection in LINQPad. Create the connection to QuickBooks in LINQPad Step 7:Open LINQPad and click 'Add New Connection'. Step 8: Choose 'Entity Framework DbContext POCO'. Step 9: Choose the data model assembly ('.dll') created by Visual Studio as the 'Path to Custom Assembly'. Choose the name of the custom DbContext, the path to the config file, and assign a name to the connection that will allow you to recognize its purpose. Step 10: Congratulations! Now you have a connection to QuickBooks, and you can query data through LINQPad.

Creating the Model Step 1: Download and install the QuickBooks Data Provider from RSSBus. Step 2: Create a new MVC3 project in Visual Studio. Add a data model to the Models folder using the ADO.NET Entity Data Model wizard. Step 3: Create a new RSSBus QuickBooks Data Source by clicking "New Connection", specify the connection string options, and click Next. Step 4: Select all the tables and views you need, and click Finish to create the data model. Step 5: Right click on the entity diagram and select 'Add Code Generation Item'. Choose the 'ADO.NET DbContext Generator'. Creating the Controller and the Views Step 6: Add a new controller to the Controllers folder. Give it a meaningful name, such as ReceivePaymentsController. We will add the List, Create, and Delete views. Step 7: Right click on the Views folder and go to Add -> View. Here create a new view for each: List, Create, and Delete templates. • Windows 2003 and 2008 AD integrated DNS zones

  We have a Windows 2003 server DC1 which is our primary DC holding all FSMO roles. It also is a DNS server for our domain domain.local which is an active directory integrated zone. We also have a Windows 2008 DC name DC2 All servers have the correct DNS entries etc. However on all dns servers there are event id 4515 indicating there are duplicate zones in separate directory partitions and only one will be used until the other is removed. And I see these, there is a zone for domain.local under the default naming partition CN=System, CN=MicrosoftDNS, DC=domain.local. As well as the DomainDNSZones partition DC=DomainDNSZones, DC=DOMAIN, DC=local, CN=MicrosoftDNS It seems that the partition in the Default Naming partition is the one which is being used currently. Which one should be in use? How do I make the EventID 4515's go away? EventID 4515: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/867464 Thanks

• What to do with random pages after a 301 redirect?

  Hello, I did a standard 301 redirect for a domain, but the original domain has about 300 pages that have some strength. It doesn't make sense to make them all point back to the new home page because the individual pages are about some topics. Also, there aren't the same pages in the new domain, so where should the original random pages redirect to? I would like to have them rank for the same topics they used to, but without having the original domain giving them strength, they will just stop ranking and die off. What should I do? Thanks, Alex

  Is there a relatively simple way to dynamically reload content files, such as effect files? I know I can do the following: Detect change of file Run content pipeline to rebuild that specific file Unload ALL content that was loaded Load all content And use double references to reference content files. The problem is with step 3 (and step 2 isn't that nice either). I need to unload everything because if I have model Hero.x which references Model.fx effect, and I change the Model.fx file, I need to reload the Hero.x file which will then call LoadExternalReference on Model.fx. Has someone managed to make this work without rewriting the whole ContentManager (and every ContentReader) and tracking calls to LoadExternalReference?

• MVC Scaffold Template Not Generating?

  Been working on an MVC project and my templates were not generating. I first created my Model inside my "Models" folder, then did a quick compile. Next I went to the Views folder to get it created, right click and say "Add View" then I clicked the checkbox to create an edit page. What happened was the template would never seem to pull in my Model, it would just have the default header items, but the entire model was missing.  My model was defined as follows: public class LogOnModel { [Required][Display(Name = "User name")]public string UserName;[Required][DataType(DataType.Password)][Display(Name = "Password")]public string Password;[Display(Name = "Remember me?")]public bool RememberMe; } See anything wrong with that? I couldn't figure out why each time I created my View and selected the option to create the "Edit" scaffold automatically, it would come up blank. Turns out I'm missing my get / set methods on the Model class items. Here's my code with the correct setup: public class LogOnModel { [Required][Display(Name = "User name")]public string UserName { get; set; } [Required][DataType(DataType.Password)][Display(Name = "Password")]public string Password { get; set; }[Display(Name = "Remember me?")]public bool RememberMe { get; set; } }  I hope that helps someone out, it's pretty simple when I look at it now, but that's always the case!  ~ Steve

• HLSL How to flip geometry horizontally

  I want to flip my asymmetric 3d model horizontally in the vertex shader alongside an arbitrary plane parallel to the YZ plane. This should switch everything for the model from the left hand side to the right hand side (like flipping it in Photoshop). Doing it in pixel shader would be a huge computational cost (extra RT, more fullscreen samples...), so it must be done in the vertex shader. Once more: this is NOT reflection, i need to flip THE WHOLE MODEL. I thought I could simply do the following: Turn off culling. Run the following code in the vertex shader: input.Position = mul(input.Position, World); // World[3][0] holds x value of the model's pivot in the World. if (input.Position.x <= World[3][0]) input.Position.x += World[3][0] - input.Position.x; else input.Position.x -= input.Position.x - World[3][0]; ... The model is never drawn. Where am I wrong? I presume that messes up the index buffer. Can something be done about it? P.S. it's INSANELY HARD to format code here. Thanks to Panda I found my problem.   I have a photo sharing website, which provides very little textual content. Users can add tags to photos and a description, but it creates a lot of duplicate content, because most of the descriptions will be 'wow', 'lol', ... I don't think I should rely on users to build my SEO. I think it would be a great idea to write a blog, and use it to describe the best photos, start contests, explain themes, in short: create original content that search engines will love. Our website's main URL is like www.domain.com, and our new blog is hosted on blog.domain.com. From a SEO perspective, is it a good idea to keep the blog separate from the main site? This has the advantage to leave the original site unchanged, but will it add any page rank to the www.domain.com? If the blog ranks well it will obviously pass some page rank to the original through links. What do you think is the best option from a SEO perspective? Include the blog in www.domain.com? Or leave it in blog.domain.com?

• Is there a better way to consume an ASP.NET Web API call in an MVC controller?

  In a new project I am creating for my work I am creating a fairly large ASP.NET Web API. The api will be in a separate visual studio solution that also contains all of my business logic and database interactions, Model classes as well. In the test application I am creating (which is asp.net mvc4), I want to be able to hit an api url I defined from the control and cast the return JSON to a Model class. The reason behind this is that I want to take advantage of strongly typing my views to a Model. This is all still in a proof of concept stage, so I have not done any performance testing on it, but I am curious if what I am doing is a good practice, or if I am crazy for even going down this route. Here is the code on the client controller: public class HomeController : Controller { protected string dashboardUrlBase = "http://localhost/webapi/api/StudentDashboard/"; public ActionResult Index() //This view is strongly typed against User { //testing against Joe Bob string adSAMName = "jBob"; WebClient client = new WebClient(); string url = dashboardUrlBase + "GetUserRecord?userName=" + adSAMName; //'User' is a Model class that I have defined. User result = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<User>(client.DownloadString(url)); return View(result); } . . . } If I choose to go this route another thing to note is I am loading several partial views in this page (as I will also do in subsequent pages). The partial views are loaded via an $.ajax call that hits this controller and does basically the same thing as the code above: Instantiate a new WebClient Define the Url to hit Deserialize the result and cast it to a Model Class. So it is possible (and likely) I could be performing the same actions 4-5 times for a single page. Is there a better method to do this that will: Let me keep strongly typed views. Do my work on the server rather than on the client (this is just a preference since I can write C# faster than I can write javascript).

• Blocking non-virtual host access in Apache?

  I'm running an apache-server, with a bunch of virtual hosts for about seven domain names. Now I'd like to disallow access for clients who try to access my server using only its IP-adress. So: When someone accesses my website through www.domain.com, they reach the site hosted in /var/www/domain.com/public_html/. When someone enters the ip-address of the server they reach a 403 Forbidden-message. The problem with this is that they are theoretically able to reach my other sites through bruteforce, when getting http://11.22.33.44/domain.com/public_html/. I rather want them to reach a 403 Forbidden all the time, as long as they don't access my server by a valid domain name. How do I solve this problem?

The Navigation model in Android is a stack-like model where views are pushed and popped. I can't find whether Marmalade has a similar model or it uses a different approach. would you please explain this to me and provide tutorials and samples to navigation in Marmalade if possible ? • Subdomain still times out after set up a month ago

  I'm a newbie on this and this has probably been asked already but the subjects online were close but too vague in there answers so I've probably really messed this up. I would really appreciate specific step by step instructions. This is what I'd like to do: use the subdomain www.high-res.domain.com to be accessed by external customers with specific permissions to access the site (like ftp). We use Network Solutions to house domain.com. We recently added a new ip address to point to www.high-res.domain.com. I gave the ip address to the company that hosts our website. I pinged www.high-res.domain.com and it points to the correct ip address but still times out. It’s been a few weeks now and when you ping it, it still times out. C:ping XXX.XXX.X.XXX Pinging XXX.XXX.X.XXX with 32 bytes of data: Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Ping statistics for XXX.XXX.X.XXX: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss). Tracert times out as well. I even went to DNS tools and a few other sites for checking this and it shows the same thing. I recently went into the DNSmgmt on our server (wink2k3sp1) and created an A record under the DomainDnsZones which translated to a Cname when you look at it. Under the Domain it has two entries one to the subdomain and the other to the website host each with separate ip addresses. Is this correct? The website people are too busy on another project to research it further and my friends haven't gotten back to me. Please help. Thanks KK

• Password protect an alias virtual difrecory

  I have a main domain being hosted through CPanel. I also have a sub-domain that I would like to appear as a path under the main domain instead of as a sub-domain. So I have: http://example.com/ pointing to the main hosted file. http://example.com/mydir pointing to the subdomain files. This is achieved by a httpd.conf include from the main domain section to set an alias: alias /mydir /path/to/subdomain/files/ Now, that works fine so far. The problem is that if a .htaccess file under /path/to/the/subdomain/files/ contains an error, the alias is completely skipped, and /mydir goes instead to the main host files. That is kind of surprising to me - I would expect an error to return an error instead. Now the killer: if I try to password protect /path/to/subdomain/files/, then trying to access http://example.com/mydir will again attempt to deliver from under the main hosted files and not from /path/to/subdomain/files/ I am not seeing any errors reported on the .htaccess file in the apache error log, so I am assuming the .htaccess is valid: AuthUserFile /path/to/valid/readable/.htpasswd AuthName "Secure Access" AuthType Basic Require valid-user This kind of behaviour does not seem right to me. Is there something obvious that could be causing it? Or is this just the way it works? Perhaps using an alias is the wrong way to go?

• Active Directory Replication across Sites slow or not working

  I've just inherited (isn't it always the way!) a Windows Domain. The domain is spread across 2 sites. Site01 has 3 DCs & Site02 has 2 DCs. If I create a user in either site, the other DCs in that site, immediately replicate and show the new user. The new user is not shown in the other site though. If I manually run the following command, everything syncs and the new user appears: repadmin /syncall issdc01 /APed In the Inter-Site Transports DEFAULTIPSITELINK the replicate every time value is set to 180 minutes. I thought this was the solution, but on another Windows Domain, this is the same, but replication takes place across sites immediately. What can I check to resolve this issue? • Add Bookmark to IE automatically for new users on a computer

  When I set up a PC, I would like to be able to have it so when anyone logs into that PC from the domain a couple of IT bookmarks will be in IE. I read I can do this with a Domain-Level group policy, but unfortunately, with my current domain group policies have not gone well, so I have fear (Rather not get into this in this question). Can I do this at the PC level when I deploy a new computer? So any domain users who log into the PC will have these bookmarks added when their profile is created (no roaming profiles). These are XP machines, and the domain is run by 2003 controllers.

• Trouble with .htacess redirection

  I use this redirect rule to redirect users from www.domain.com/admin to www.domain.com/wp-admin on a Wordpress site. RedirectMatch 301 \@admin http://www.domain.com/wp-admin The problem is that instead redirecting to wp-admin/, it redirects to an article called Administrators are awesome people (slug : administrators-are-awesome-people) I can guess what is going on, WP sees that there is an article slug starting with "admin", and redirects to it, overruling my own rule. Is there a way to be more specific, like saying "redirect urls that end with exactly admin ?

• How ad retargeting works?

  Recently, I read that Facebook ads are moving towards retargeting and got interested deeper into subject. Essentially, retargeting is technique advertisers use that tracks purchase intent by putting cookies into your browser and when you visit another website within ad network you will see ad for item you "wanted to buy". In order this to for, both publisher and advertiser need to work together. Publisher needs add couple of lines of javascript and publisher need to be able to read this info across sites. In most cases, javascript inserts iframe from adnetwork domain. Iframe script sets cookies for both host domain and remote adnetwork domain. However, Same Origin policy do not let iframes read/set content from parent domain. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone explain how this technique actually works?
