  • How to give a custom ASP.NET control the ability to parse XML markup to a collection?

    I'm writing a custom ASP.NET webcontrol and would like it to have a collection of custom items which can also be specified in the XML markup. Something like this: class MyControl: WebControl { public IList<MyItemType> MyItems { get; private set; } } And in the markup: <asd:MyControl runat="server" id="mc1"> <MyItems> <MyDerivedCustomItem asd="dsa"/> <MyOtherDerivedCustomItem asd="dsa"/> </MyItems> </asd:MyControl> How do I do this? I though this was all about implementing some interface on the collection or adding some special attributes to the property, but nothing I do seems to work.

  • Control the size of points in an R scatterplot?

    In R, the plot() function takes a pch argument that controls the appearance of the points in the plot. I'm making scatterplots with tens of thousands of points and prefer a small, but not too small dot. Basically, I find pch='.' to be too small, but pch=19 to be too fat. Is there something in the middle or some way to scale the dots down somehow?

    I have a homework question for one specific item with python GUIs. My goal is to create a GUI that asks a random mathematical equation and if the equation is evaluated correctly, then I will receive a message stating that it is correct. My main problem is finding out where to place my statements so that they show up in the labels; I have 1 textbox which generates the random equation, the next textbox is blank for me to enter the solution, and then an "Enter" button at the end to evaluate my solution. It looks like this: [randomly generated equation][Empty space to enter solution] [ENTER] I've managed to get the layout and the evaluate parameters, but I don't know where to go from here.   • DataGridView: Scroll bar does not refreshed

    I am working (fixing bugs) on a project which was written in VS 2005. There is one DataGridView control on a form. When it is first time loaded, the control's data grid is populated with rows of data from a collection manually or in codes. Actually, there is method PopulateDataGrid() do the job. There is also another control on the form. When control is changed, the data grid will be cleared first and then rows are repopulated again through PopulateDataGrid(). The problem is that when the grid is refreshed, the vertical scroll bar does not get reset correctly. I thought it should be. Since the scroll bar is not reset, when I tried to click on grid and move down, I got exception: the max value of scroll bar was exceeded. All the settings for grid control are default values. For example, the ScrollBars is Both. The following is the only related place to set row auto size property: poDataGridView.AutoSizeRowsMode = DataGridViewAutoSizeRowsMode.DisplayedCellsExceptHeaders; I am not sure if there is any property I have to set in designer?

  • DatagridView Background does not refresh. Traces left behind.

    I have a DataGridView bound on a generic list, in .NET 3.5. When this grid is resized, there is a residual traces that is left behind on the background of the grid where there is no items. This only occurs where there is some columns that have the WrapMode attribute set to True. It seems that only the content that is wrapped is not refreshed on the background of the grid. Anybody have a workaround or a resolution for this problem?

    I have the following client-side front-end HTML using Jinja2 template engine: {% for record in result %} <textarea name="remark">{{ record.remark }}</textarea> <input type="submit" name="approve" value="Approve" /> {% endfor %} Thus the HTML may show more than 1 set of textarea and submit button. The back-end Python code retrieves a variable number of records from a gql query using the model, and pass this to the Jinja2 template in result. When a submit button is clicked, it triggers the post method to update the record: def post(self): if self.request.get('approve'): updated_remark = self.request.get('remark') record.remark = db.Text(updated_remark) record.put() However, in some instances, the record updated is NOT the one that correspond to the submit button clicked (eg if a user clicks on record 1 submit, record 2 remark gets updated, but not record 1). I gather that this is due to the duplicate attribute name remark. I can possibly use JavaScript/jQuery to generate different attribute names. The question is, how do I code the back-end Python to get the (variable number of) names generated by the JavaScript? Thanks.

I was able to manage the spacing of the results content with: #results4 { width: 620px; padding: 20px; } However you will notice that the top row of information Results 1 - 10 for search... runs off the right side of the content area. I tried using the following code, but it didn't help: .t td { align:left; } I also tried margin-right and padding but those didn't work either. what is the best way to get that content to move over into the content area? thanks.

    Hi, I know how you can set an tag's url attribute programmatically in c#, but it seems when I try to access the image element inside of a tag I cannot access it. The is residing in the . NOTE: I am only having this issue inside the Now the ListView tag is also databound.(this is probably why I cannot access, because it isn't guaranteed that it will even exist perhaps). How can I get around this so that I can display my images programmatically or is there a better solution?   • I'm confused, how do I control cache so my clients can see website edits.

    I host about 10 websites for clients. Every so often a client will ask for an update to their website. It may be a simple image change, new PDF or a simple text change. I make the change and then send them a link to the web page with the update. About an hour later I will get an email back from the client telling me they still see the old page. I will then explaining to them how to empty their browsers cache. What I'm trying to figure out is if there is a way I can tell their browser that I made an update to the website and that it should reload the page and update the cache. I thought about trying a meta tag but I read that they are not very reliable. Also I would still like the page to cache I just want to be able to clear it when I make an update. Is this possible? I'm an advanced front end web developer (HTML, CSS, Javascript) and know some PHP. Cache is just one of those things I don't really understand that well.

This all works fine except that the clientside error messages are only ever displayed to the right of the element being validated. Is it possible to move this validation message below the element being validated? Or even better, group all messages in a div at the top/bottom of the page? I dont see anything in their docs or examples

    I noticed that the DLLs in the bin folder for asp.net websites do not seem to be getting saved. When I goto a new computer and get latest I am missing the DLLs. What is the correct way to fix this ? Should I create a seperate folder to contains all DLLs ? And then can I somehow tell my bin references to goto that folder to get the DLLs?

  • In FLEX, How can you stop ENTER Key from my Alert being caught by the control that initiated the Al

    I am having an issue where I show an AlertBox message when the user hits ENTER and the focus is in a text area. The pop up works fine, but when the user hits enter the Alert closes as expected, but the TextArea listener receives the ENTER event from the Alert and pops the dialog up again. I have tried a number of ways to catch and eat the event but so far I have not been lucky. In web.config, set this <setting name="DisableBrowserCaching" value="false"/> and create pipeline processor page.Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now.AddSeconds(60)); page.Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public); but it did not work, the repose head stays no-cache. By the way, I add the pipeline in the renderLayout, anyone knows? thanks!

  • How can I limit asp.net control actions based on user role?

    I have several pages or views in my application which are essentially the same for both authenticated users and anonymous users. I'd like to limit the insert/update/delete actions in formviews and gridviews to authenticated users only, and allow read access for both authed and anon users. I'm using the asp.net configuration system for handling authentication and roles. This system limits access based on path so I've been creating duplicate pages for authed and anon paths. The solution that comes to mind immediately is to check roles in the appropriate event handlers, limiting what possible actions are displayed (insert/update/delete buttons) and also limiting what actions are performed (for users that may know how to perform an action in the absence of a button.) However, this solution doesn't eliminate duplication - I'd be duplicating security code on a series of pages rather than duplicating pages and limiting access based on path; the latter would be significantly less complicated. I could always build some controls that offered role-based configuration, but I don't think I have time for that kind of commitment right now. Is there a relatively easy way to do this (do such controls exist?) or should I just stick to path-based access and duplicate pages? Does it even make sense to use two methods of authorization? There are still some pages which are strictly for either role so I'll be making use of path-based authorization anyway. Finally, would using something other than path-based authorization be contrary to typical asp.net design practices, at least in the context of using the asp.net configuration system?

    I am a web developer, have worked with PHP and .NET both. having over a year of experience working on web I haven't been able to understand the browser caching features thoroughly, I hope Web Gurus here can help me with it. Questions I have in my mind are : How does browser actually caches stuff, does it request for to see if the cached file has changed on the server or not, What is the Ideal way for a developer to make use of browser chaching to its full, but also to be able to push new changes on the site with no hassle at all. I think if browser somehow chaches my CSS and JS and Images, and then just makes a checks for their modification to the server everytime, this can sort the issue. but I am not sure how to do it, waiting for interesting answers :)
