• Why would dynamically changing the stroke type of a GestureOverlayView cause unusual behaviour?

  I recently introduced multi-stroke gestures into my application. This is a preference so I set the StrokeType dynamically in Activity.OnCreate. What I have discovered is that if you change the StrokeType so that it is different to the setting in the layout file, it changes the behaviour of the GestureOverlayView in the following way. The normal behaviour is that you draw a gesture and it stays on the screen after it is drawn. When you change the stroke type dynamically however, any gesture drawn on the screen disappears immediately after the OnGestureEnded event has fired. I reloaded the sample GesturesBuilder application and confirmed it has the same problem if you add the second line shown here: GestureOverlayView overlay = (GestureOverlayView) findViewById(R.id.gestures_overlay); overlay.setGestureStrokeType(GestureOverlayView.GESTURE_STROKE_TYPE_SINGLE); overlay.addOnGestureListener(new GesturesProcessor()); } The default in the layout is MULTIPLE but changing it to single changes the behaviour. If you keep the above line but set it to what it already is, the behaviour is not affected. Is this a bug in the Android gestures library and does anyone know a workaround? Note that this is on an HTC Magic so it could also be a handset issue.

• Best way to update/insert into a table based on a remote table.

  I have two very large enterprise tables in an Oracle 10g database. One table keeps the historical information of the other table. The problem is, I'm getting to the point where the records are just too many that my insert update is taking too long and my session is getting killed by the governor. • Timing issues with playback of the HTML5 Audio API

I suspect it could have something to do with the timing of the timeupdate event, but I'm no JS guru and I don't know how to begin debugging the problem. Here are a few clues I've gathered: The same behavior appears to come up in both FF and Chrome. The playback of a given clip actually seems to vary a bit -- if I play the same clip a couple times in a row, it may over-play a different amount of time on each playing. Is the problem here the inherent accuracy of the Audio API? My app needs milliseconds. Is there a problem with the way I'm using jQuery to bind and unbind the timeupdate event? I tried using the jQuery-less approach with addEventListener but I couldn't get it to work. Thanks in advance, I would really love to know what's going wrong.

  I love Asserts and code readability but not code duplication, and in several places I use a Debug.Assert which checks for the same condition like so: Debug.Assert(kosherBaconList.SelectedIndex != -1, "An error message along the lines - you should not ever be able to click on edit button without selecting a kosher bacon first."); This is in response to an actual bug, although the actual list does not contain kosher bacon. • How can I parse_url in PHP when there is a URL in a string variable?

  I am admittedly a PHP newbie, so I need some help. I am creating a self-designed affiliate program for my site and have the option for an affiliate to add a SubID to their link for tracking. Without having control over what is entered, I have been testing different scenarios and found a bug when a full URL is entered (i.e. "http://example.com"). In my PHP I can grab the variable from the string no problem. My problem comes from when I get the referring URL and parse it (since I need to parse the referring URL to get the host mane for other uses). Code below: $refURL = getenv("HTTP_REFERER"); $parseRefURL = parse_url($refURL); WORKS when incoming link is (for example): http://example.com/?ref=REFERRER'S-ID&sid=www.test.com ERROR when incoming link is (notice the addition of "http://" after "sid="): http://example.com/?ref=REFERRER'S-ID&sid=http://www.test.com Here is the warning message: Warning: parse_url(/?ref=REFERRER'S-ID&sid=http://www.test.com) [function.parse-url]: Unable to parse url in /home4/'directory'/public_html/hosterdoodle/header.php on line 28 Any ideas on how to keep the parse-url function from being thrown off when someone may decide to place a URL in a variable? (I actually tested this problem down to the point that it will throw the error with as little as ":/" in the variable)

• Visual Studio 2008 having problems with namespaces when used as type in Generic coolection

  I just upgraded last week from Visual Studio 2005 to 2008. I am having an issue with compiler resolving namespaces when I use a class as a type in a Generic collection. Intellisense recognizes the class and the compiler generates no errors when I use the class except when it is a type in a Generic collection declaration either as return type for a Property or as a parameter to a method. This is happening in my only project that is targeting the 3.5 framework, but changing the project containing the class to use the 3.5 framework doesn't fix the problem. Examples Compile fine MyClass myClass = new MyClass(); SortedList <DateTime,MyClass> listOfClasses = new SortedList<DateTime,MyClass> Compile error - Namespace could not be found public SortedList<DateTime,MyClass> ClassList { get; set; } private void DoSomethingToLists(SortedList<DateTime,MyClass> classList) Intellisense has no problem resolving the namespace, only the compiler. Is this a known bug or am I missing something obvious? Will SP1 fix it? I was able to create a new library containing just this class targeting 3.5 and am now able to successfully use this in both 3.5 and 2.0 projects. My guess is that even though I tried to change the target of my original library, since it was still referencing 2.0 projects there was some conflict.

• firefox does not load large size images

  I am stuck with a kind of bug in FF, wherein it’s unable to load images of big size (I have 8 MB size of image) from the server. The loading of image is all fine on IE. I am still looking out for ways to get rid of this problem. I changed server(IIS) settings to allow bigger file sizes. Also, I used “load” event on image using JQuery and tried all sort of options listed here http://api.jquery.com/load-event/, but nothing worked so far. If anyone of you has come across any such similar problem, and a way to resolve it, it would be nice to hear from you Please note: high resolution images are part of the requirement. • C# Linq to SQL connection string (newbie)

  i am a new linq to sql learner and this is my very first attempt to create a data viewer program. The idea is simple, i'd like to create a software that is able to view content of a table in a database. That's it. I got an early problem here already and i have seen many tutes and articles online but I still cant fix the bug. • Can Delphi 5 generate a .PDB file that VS can use?

  We've got this large application written in Delphi 5, and development is ongoing to this day. There is research going on into migrating to newer versions, but so far there is no success, as some 3rd party components have not been updated in ages and do not work on later versions. In the meantime however people need to continue work on it. Now Delphi 5 IDE is no real treat. It's pretty bug-ridden and lacks a lot of features of contemporary IDEs which makes it difficult to use. Especially when it comes to debugging. So I was wondering - would it be possible to use Visual Studio in the process? As far as I know the .PDB file format is pretty old and is well documented. Could it be possible to make the Delphi compiler to somehow generate a .PDB files for it's compiled results? Then the program could be debugged with Visual Studio, possibly to a much greater extent than in the original IDE. Well, the absolute Holy Grail would be to move all development to VS, just keeping the compiler from Delphi, but I imagine that would be pretty impossible.

  Hello, Guys. I have a UITableView in that some cells are marked with UITableViewCellAccessoryCheckmark at the initialization of the view. When the user selects another row, I have to check if the maximum number of selected rows was achieved before. To do that, I used the code bellow: - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfSelectedRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section{ NSInteger numberOfRows = [self tableView:tableView numberOfRowsInSection:section]; NSInteger numberOfSelectedRows = 0; for (int i = 0; i < numberOfRows; i++) { UITableViewCell *otherCell = [tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:[NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:i inSection:section]]; if (otherCell.accessoryType == UITableViewCellAccessoryCheckmark) { numberOfSelectedRows++; } } return numberOfSelectedRows; } If my number of rows is, as example, 20, the variable numberOfRows is setted correctly with 20. Lets say that 13 rows already are marked with UITableViewCellAccessoryCheckmark. So, numberOfSelectedRows should be 13 after the loop, but only the marked and VISIBLE cells are considered. So, if I have 9 cells showed and 7 are marked, the numberOfSelectedRows returns 7 instead of 13 (but the for iterate 20 times, as expected). Is this a correct behavior of UITableView or it is a bug of iPhone simulator? Thanks in advance.

• C# Automatic Properties - Still null after +=?

  This seems like a bug to me... I accept that automatic properties, defined as such: public decimal? Total { get; set; } Will be null when they are first accessed. They haven't been initialized, so of course they are null. But, even after setting their value through +=, this decimal? still remains null. So after: Total += 8; Total is still null. How can this be correct? I understand that it's doing a (null + 8), but seems strange that it doesn't pick up that it means it should just be set to 8... Addendums: I made the "null + 8" point in my question - but notice that it works with strings. So, it does null + "hello" just fine, and returns "hello". Therefore, behind the scenes, it is initializing the string to a string object with the value of "hello". The behavior should be the same for the other types, IMO. It might be because a string can accept a null as a value, but still, a null string is not an initialized object, correct? Perhaps it's just because a string isn't a nullable...

  Hi All, This may look like a duplicate to here, but it's not. I am trying to get a best practice, not a technical answer (which i already (think) i know). New to SQL Server and trying to form good habits. I found a great explanation of the functional differences between SET @var = and SELECT @var = here: http://vyaskn.tripod.com/differences_between_set_and_select.htm To summarize what each has that the other hasn't (see source for examples): SET: ANSI and portable, recommended by Microsoft. SET @var = (SELECT column_name FROM table_name) fails when the select returns more then one value, eliminating the possibility of unpredictable results. SET @var = (SELECT column_name FROM table_name) will set @var to NULL if that's what SELECT column_name FROM table_name returned, thus never leaving @var at it's prior value. SELECT: Multiple variables can be set in one statement Can return multiple system variables set by the prior DML statement SELECT @var = column_name FROM table_name would set @var to (according to my testing) the last value returned by the select. This could be a feature or a bug. Behavior can be changed with SELECT @j = (SELECT column_name FROM table_name) syntax. Speed. Setting multiple variables with a single SELECT statement as opposed to multiple SET/SELECT statements is much quicker. He has a sample test to prove his point. If you could design a test to prove the otherwise, bring it on! So, what do i do? (Almost) always use SET @var =, using SELECT @var = is messy coding and not standard. OR Use SELECT @var = freely, it could accomplish more for me, unless the code is likely to be ported to another environment. Thanks

• Behavior of Struts2 and convention-plugin when there is Index(extends ActionSupport)

  We have an Action class named 'Index' immediately under com.example.common.action and is annotated @ParentPackage('default') which is declared in package directive in struts.xml and has "/" for its namespace and extends "struts-default". It also declares @Result so that it responses with jsp files corresponding the string values returned by its execute() method. In our struts.xml, the following struts setting is configured along with other necessary configurations that are needed for convention-plugin. <constant name="struts.action.extension" value=","/> When accessing /my_context/none_existing_path, the request apparently hits this Index class and the contents of the jsp declared in the Index's @Result section gets returned. However, if we provide /my_context/, we receive the following error: HTTP Status 404-There is no Action mapped for namespace[/] and action name [] associated with context path [/my_context]. We want to know the reason why accessing /my_context/none_existing_path, where none_existing_path has no matching action, can fallback to Index class, but error is returned when when the URL requested is just /my_context/. Currently, our convention-plugin settings are declared as follows: <constant name="struts.convention.package.locators.basePackage" value="com.example"/> <constant name="struts.convention.package.locators" value="action"/> Strangely, if we changed the value of the struts.convention.package.locators.basePackage to om.example.common, in which the aforementioned Index file can be immediately found by narrowing the search scope, requesting /my_context/ displays the content of the jsps declared in @Result section of the Index class. However, as our action classes are distributed throughout the com.example.[a-z].action packages, where [a-z] represents the large volume of directories we have in our package structure, we cannot use this trick as a workaround. We have also tried placing index.jsp at the top level of the class path, and have the index.jsp redirect to /my_context/index, which worked but not what we want. Could this be a bug? • Query with UDF works in Access but gives Undefined function in expression (Err 3085) in Excel

  I have an Access table with a date/time field. I wanted to make a composite Key field out of the date/time field and 3 other text fields in the same format as the matching Key field in another database. So I concatenated the 3 text fields and wrote a User-Defined-Function in a Module to output the date field as a string in the format "YYYYMMDD". Public Function YYYYMMDD(dteDate As Date) As String YYYYMMDD = Format(dteDate, "YYYYMMDD") End Function I can then successfully run my queries in Access and it all works fine. But when I set up some DAO code in Excel and try to run the query that works fine within Access... db.Execute "qryMake_tblValsDailyAccount" ...Excel gives me the "Undefined function in expression. (Error 3085)" error. To me this is a bug in Excel and/or Access, because the (Excel) client shouldn't need to know anything about the internal calculations that normally take place perfectly in the (Access) server when in isolation. Excel should send the querydef (name with no parameters) to the server, let the server do its work then receive the answers. Why does it need to get involved with a function internal to the server? Does anyone know a way around this?

• Android app with library can't find the library.apk

  I'm trying to get the FinchVideo example from the Programming Android book to work. It uses the FinchWelcome library. I've set up FinchWelcome as a Library and in the FinchVideo application I have checked the FinchWelcome library in Properties - Android. When I try to run FinchVideo in the emulator it complains that it cannot find FinchWelcome.apk (output below). I'm building for Android 4.0.3. While Googling for this problem I've found that a lot of people have this problem with Android apps that use libraries. No one seems to have found a solution that works consistently, though. None of the Android books I've seen even talk about how to download libraries. What is the proper way to handle libraries in Android applications? Is this a bug in the Eclipse ADT? Thanks. • Checkbox not checkable in dialog ui

  I am trying to solve a z-index problem with the jQuery UI Dialog, similar to question Can't select or deselect checkboxes inside jQuery UI Modal Dialog , knowing there is a bug report out there. So in trying to up the z-index as recommended, I added the following code: $('#interface').click(function(evform){ $('#interface').prop('z-index')=99999; }); where the chrome and firefox console.log states: Uncaught ReferenceError: Invalid left-hand side in assignment HOWEVER, despite the error, the checkbox now works (throwing the console error every time). If I remove the offending line, the checkbox becomes "unclickable". How can I properly code this? My HTML: <div id="dialog" title="Loading..."> <p id="interface">Loading...</p> </div> (by the way, I tried adding inline style to the <p>, and it didn't work: <p id="interface" style="z-index:99999">Loading...</p> And with AJAX, I replace the contents of '#interface' with valid checkbox html such as: <label for="right"> <input name="right" type="checkbox"> </label> and I have the usual jQuery/Dialog UI files included. One final note, I tried to get creative, since this wasn't working and manually switch the checkbox by: if ($(evform.target).prop('type')=="checkbox"){ $(evform.target).checked; } Thank you to anyone willing to help me figure this out!

• Instantiate a form, then find it later, without showing it initially

  I am having a problem that is strange to me but hopefully is not so strange to someone else. : ) Some background: I am working on a simple IM client that allows the user to broadcast messages to multiple recipients. The goal is to create a chat form for each of the recipients containing the text of the broadcast message, then show that form only if the recipient responds to the broadcast-er. However, when the application receives a response then attempts to locate the form for that particular chat session (using Application.OpenForms) it cannot find it UNLESS I .Show at the time it is created. I would like to avoid having to show this form when it is created because this means that the user will see a flash on the screen. The form doesn't seem to really be created until I show it, but it would seem there has to be a way to do this without showing first. Can anyone assist? I can provide code snippets if needed, I didn't in this post because this feels more like a conceptual misunderstanding on my part than a bug in the code. Thanks in advance!

• Usage of setInfoClass() on DirectoryIterator vs on RecursiveDirectoryIterator

  I've ran into an inconsistent behavior when using setInfoClass to set a custom SplFileInfo class to a DirectoryIterator versus setting it to a RecursiveIterator. The method description states: Use this method to set a custom class which will be used when getFileInfo and getPathInfo are called. The class name passed to this method must be derived from SplFileInfo. Consider this custom SplFileInfo class A extends SplFileInfo { public function test() { printf("I am of class %s\n", __CLASS__); } } and my iterators $iterator = new DirectoryIterator('.'); and $iterator = new RecursiveDirectoryIterator('.'); Now I'd expect those two to behave the same when I do $iterator->setInfoClass('A'); foreach($iterator as $file) { $file->test(); } and output 'I am of A' for each $file encountered and in fact, the RecursiveDirectoryIterator will do that. But the DirectoryIterator will raise Fatal error: Call to undefined method DirectoryIterator::test() so apparently the InfoClass does not get applied when iterating over the files. At least not directly, because when I change the code in the foreach loop to $file->getPathInfo()->test(); it will work for the DirectoryIterator. But then the RecursiveDirectoryIterator will raise Fatal error: Call to undefined method SplFileInfo::test() Like I said, I'd expect those two to behave the same, but apparently getFileInfo and getPathInfo don't get called in the DirectoryIterator, which I consider a bug. So if there is any Iterator experts out there, please help me understand this. Thanks.

• "This program might not have installed correctly" message in Windows 7 RC

  I have an installer that works perfectly under NT 5.x, Vista, and Windows 7. It contains the proper manifest for UAC on NT 6.x. But starting with Windows 7 RC, every time the setup program closes, Windows produces an erroneous "This program might not have installed correctly" message, even though the program did install correctly with no problems whatsoever. I never got these spurious messages in Vista or in Windows 7 beta. I sent a bug report to Microsoft, but have not heard back. I thought that this might just be a glitch in the Windows 7 RC, but the problem is still there on a fresh install of one of the very recent RTM-escrow builds that was leaked. Microsoft has no documentation whatsoever about this--not even a hint to what might possibly be triggering it. Even more frustrating is that I get this "This program might not have installed correctly" message even if I cancel the install on the very first are-you-sure-you-want-to-proceed screen before any of the installation code (creating a temp dir, extracting files, copying, registry, etc.) is ever run. Has anyone figured this one out?

• Accessing to Request object will lead to ReadEntityBody to return 0 (in a HttpHandler class)

  I created a httpHandler that successfully implements IHttpHandler for handling file uploads. It works perfectly fine. You send the file with the form, the class receives it and will save it to hard disk. It reads chunks of file with ReadEntityBody function of HttpWorkerRequest class. Here is the situation i'm faced with.If at any stage before trying to read the file with ReadEntityBody, I try to access Request object (even Request.InputStream.Length!) ReadEntityBody would return 0 means it won't read from file stream. After further testing I found out the reason behind it. Accessing to Context.Current.Request object will trigger some sort of functionality that will cause asp.net to handle file uploads at that moment by it's own! I believe this is a bug. for example exactly after this line of code, asp.net will upload the file completely, and so there will be no stream for ReadEntityBody to read from later. int FileSize = context.Request.InputStream.Length; Can anybody tell how to stop this?
