• Windows 2008 - Define IP Order by port or service

  I have a Windows 2008 server that has three IP bound to the NIC. I can select which IP Windows SMTP listens to, but I want to also set the IP address used when mail is sent. Where would I set which outbound IP to use when sending email? Without using real IPs, here is an example what I have setup. Three IPs associated with the server: 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.2 10.0.0.3 I setup the binding on 10.0.0.2 for port 25 in the SMTP server settings, so that it is the only IP that will respond for inbound. When I look at the email header from an email sent from that server, it lists the server with an address of 10.0.0.3. I would like it to use 10.0.0.2 so that when reverse DNS is performed, it maps back correctly.

I am currently having a C structure with some members that should be somehow hidden from the rest of the application, as their use is only internal. Modifying by accident one of this members will probably make the library 'go wild'. Is there any 'workaround' to hide those members so that they can't be accessible ?

• MMS gets hostname from uname and can't connect to it

  I'm trying to get 10gen's MongoDB Monitoring Service monitoring my 3-node replica set. The replica set running in an AWS VPC. Each node runs on a different [virtual] machine. Assume their IPs are 192.168.1.1 (primary or secondary), 192.168.1.2 (primary or secondary), 192.168.1.3 (arbiter). From a quick look at the source, MMS appears to get the hostname of the machine it is running on like so: platform.uname()[1] For my VPC EC2 instance, this returns something like ip-192-168-1-1 MMS then tries to connect to this hostname, which does not resolve. I'd rather just use IP addresses (since they're always static), but it seems like the hardcoded use of platform.uname()[1] in mmsAgent.py precludes that. So, what's an elegant way out of this? Hack /etc/hosts? I'm not setting up a DNS server just for this. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding how to configure MMS.

• ubuntu server in a vm, can't connect to internet

  I'm attemtping to host my own development web server in a virtual box guest, Ubuntu Server. I would like this virtual machine to be accessible from not only my home network, but outside the LAN as well. As such, I've set up a static IP (so I can later forward ports to this static IP.) My virtual box settings have this vm only using one adapter -- in bridged mode. Here's what my /etc/network/interfaces looks like: iface eth0 inet static address 10.0.1.203 /*this is outside the DHCP range*/ netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.0.1.1 network 10.0.1.0 broadcast 10.0.1.255 dns-nameservers: 8.8.8.8 8.8.8.4 Here's what the output of ifconfig looks like: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2241201/locker/ubuntu.png My Host is a mac mini, running OS X 10.7. • Own website fails to load first time

  I have a website running on a VPS, every time I first try to load the website the connection times out. If I press try again, it loads directly. I'm not sure whether this is a DNS issue or a server issue. As far as I know everything is set up correctly. Also, it has been doing this from the moment I got this server and set up my domain name. And that's about two to three months ago. You may take a look here: http://www.wegotcha.nl/ As you can see at this moment it's just an image, there are no scripts running in the background or anything. The only error Apache gives me is that favicon.ico cannot be found. It's an Apache webserver running on Ubuntu 12.04.1 (newest version) I update all packages almost every day (apt-get update && apt-get upgrade). I am merely an amateur on the area of webservers so any help will be appreciated. :)

• Extend university wifi network [migrated]

  i live in a university campus and i can get wifi signal on the outside of my window but not in the house. The solution i use at the moment is a usb wifi dongle outside connected to my laptop but the lack of an internal antenna make the connection quite unreliable at times. So i was trying to find another solution to improve the reception of my network. One idea is to setup a router on the outside (in a place with stronger signal) and redirect the connection inside the house with an ethernet cable but the problem is that our Uni Wifi is managed by a capitve portal (BlueSocket with DNS redirection to login page) and the authentication has to happen on the mac address that connect to the net (so the client appliance in this case). If I use a router with Mac-Clone capability i will be able to be redirected trough the captive portal on my laptop computer and login from there or i need to setup my router to fill in the login page by itself? There are other hardware/software solutions i can use to get what i want? Thank you all

• Virtual hosts and subdomains, need configuring on live, not on dev

  I have a query about subdomains and virtual hosts. On my dev server, I ca nset up a new virtual hosts and point it to a subdomain, ie: newdomain.mydevserver.com All is fine and I can access 'newdomain/mydevserver/com' I can also do 'host newdomain.mydevserver.com' However, when I do the same with my main server I get the server couldn't be contacted error - I'm guessing that's because i need a cname or a record for the DNS. My question is, why does it seem that i can create subdomains on my dev but not on my live server? Help appreciated, many thanks!

  I am getting the following error when deploying. This is in a cube which was working fine, all that has changed is a key column in one of the dimensions. Internal error: Failed to generate a hash string I have no idea what is causing this but even if I change the dimension back to how it was and try to deploy I get the same error. If anyone has seen this or knows how to fix it please respond.

  I get my internet connection from a guy (lets call him my service provider henceforth). He gives internet connections to many students here in my hostel. My PC gets a private IP through his DHCP server. Now, when I switch on my WiFi, my PC gets a private IP as it should and I can connect to the internet just fine. But now when I connect my LAN cable, my PC gets some "Autoconfiguration IPv4 address" 169.254.110.154(Preferred) and I cannot connect to the internet. • Sharepoint Document Library not receiving emails

  I have created a sharepoint document library which is email enabled. However when i send email to the designated email address from anywhere, i dont receive the email & attachment in the list. I have done some R&D and i hv found that in order to receive email from anywhere i have to expose my DNS of the sharepoint site to the outside world. Now i dont know whether it applies to the email address designated to me in the Active directory profile as well (my company domain email address). How to test that this email reception is working in the document library? I have tried sending an email from the sharepoint site and it works fine so the SMTP settings are correctly done.

• Sharepoint 2010 reacts very badly to having it's IP address changed. How do I fix it?

  I have Sharepoint 2010 set up on a virtual host for prototyping various projects. If I restart the host, the IP changes. Afterwards, SP complains that it can't find it's configuration database. I can't find where it might be storing an IP. To clarify, the URL remains the same - I have a dynamic dns solution in place to handle that. I can't see anything in the web.config files or the database connection strings that would indicate a hardcoded IP. How can I fix this up in less time than re-installing every time I need to do a project?

• Domain redirection to port on Windows Server 2008

  I have a Windows server running IIS. I wish to run a piece of software that hosts a web interface on a non-standard HTTP port (let's say, port 9999). I have static DNS entries on my router for two FQDNs, both of which direct to the Windows server. I wish to have requests to 'website1' to continue to go to the IIS website on port 80, but requests for 'website2' to instead go to port 9999 to be handled by the other application. How can I accomplish this? Right now I can get to the application by going to 'website1:9999' or 'website2:9999'.

  As I understand it GPL says you only have to distribute derivative code for works you distribute, i.e. if you develop internal software you can keep your code private. What happens if you develop a server application, say like Facebook or StackOverflow? The server app is not 'distributed' so what's the situation with your code in this case?

• OpenVPN IPv6 over IPv4 tunnel

  Today I installed OpenVPN 2.3rc2 on both my windows 7 client machine and centos 6 server. This new version of OpenVPN provides full compatibility for IPv6. The Problem: I am currently able to connect to the server (through the IPv4 tunnel) and ping the IPv6 address which is assigned to my client and I can also ping the tun0 interface on the server. However, I cannot browse to any IPv6 websites. My vps provider has given me this: 2607:f840:0044:0022:0000:0000:0000:0000/64 is routed to this server (2607:f840:0:3f:0:0:0:eda). After connecting as the first client, I can ping from my windows client machine 2607:f740:44:22::1 and 2607:f740:44:22::1000. However, I have no access to IPv6 websites. I believe the problem is that the tun0 IPv6 addressees are not being forwarded to the eth0 interface. This version of OpenVPN was only released yesterday, and there's little info on the internet about how to setup an IPv6 over IPv4 vpn tunnel. As you can see, the router is doing job of DHCP, DNS. but now I wish to add a Linux server between R1 and S1, So I can monitor the network traffic and do other more advance server admin stuff. the whole office network is 192.168.1.x and people are using their computer everyday. What network configuration should the new Linux server have (both interfaces) in order to minimize the changes need in the network? tried to change R1 ip to 192.168.100.1 them add the server with FE0/0 192.168.100.1 and FE0/1 192.168.1.1 but looks cannot ping the original Router..

If I want to host a website then I believe I need a domain name which I can purchase from some site which would pledge to resolve all DNS requests for that domain name and send the IP address of my NAT router (assuming I do not want to host my domain name on their servers). • Eclipse behaves strangely on Ubuntu 9.10. My buttons won't work after the upgrade!

  Everything was fine until I did an upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10. Since then, Eclipse just doesn't respond properly. The following are the symptoms I can see: When I click on update, it grabs the available updates but doesn't show them. Any internal window that is displayed has corrupted buttons I cannot click on any of the buttons. I have to keep pressing Tab to highlight that specific button and then hit spacebar. • How to install Gitlab in a VM on a production server?

  I have a production server running Ubuntu 12.04 and I would like to install on it a VM with Gitlab (using Vagrant and Virtualbox). Let's say that the address to access Gitlab is gitlab.mydomain.com . The DNS zone has been configured to point to the IP address of the server. I want users to be able to access to Gitlab (either for pushing to a repository, or for accessing to the web interface) from the outside. The VM has been configured to have an IP address. It means that when browsing http://gitlab.mydomain.com for instance, the request has to be forwarded to the VM on the server, ie. to the VM IP address. What are the ways to configure this? Can Apache be used as a proxy? In this case, I guess it only works for HTTP requests, but not for pushing to a Git repository on the VM.
