• Moving a sprite around the circumference of a circle in Cocos2d-iPhone

  I am new to Cocos2d. I have taken a look at the documentation at it looks pretty simple compared to what you need to do using basic Iphone classes such as UIAnimation etc. I want to move a Sprite (eg. Bird, Plane or Car) around the center of a circle around its circumference, smoothly so that even the sprite rotates accordingly. How is this possible in Cocos2d? It would be very helpful if someone can post some basic code. Thanks.

• Java method for android:layout_gravity

  Hi folks, I would like to know if is there a way to call android:layout_gravity property from a java method. I didn't found any method in Android documentation to do it. • Reality behind wireless security - the weakness of encrypting

  I welcome better key-wording here, both on tags and title, and I'll add more links as soon as possible. For some years I'm trying to conceive a wireless environment that I'd setup anywhere and advise for everyone, including from big enterprises to small home networks of 1 machine. I've always had the feeling using any kind of the so called "wireless security" methods is actually a bad design. I'm talking mostly about encrypting and pass-phrasing (which are actually two different concepts), since I won't even considering hiding SSID and mac filtering. I understand it's a natural way of thinking. With cable networking nobody can access the network unless they have access to the physical cable, so you're "secure" in the physical way. In a way, encrypting is for wireless what walling (building walls) is for the cables. And giving pass-phrases is adding a door with a key. But the cabling without encryption is also insecure. Someone just need to plugin and get your data! And while I can see the use for encrypting data, I don't think it's a security measure in wireless networks. As I said elsewhere, I believe we should encrypt only sensitive data regardless of wires. And passwords should be added to the users, always, not to wifi. For securing files, truly, best solution is backup. Sure all that doesn't happen that often, but I won't consider the most situations where people just don't care. I think there are enough situations where people actually care on using passwords on their OS users, so let's go with that in mind. For being able to break the walls or the door someone will need proper equipment such as a hammer or a master key of some kind. Same is true for breaking the wireless walls in the analogy. But, I'd say true data security is at another place. I keep promoting the Fonera concept as an instance. It opens up a free wifi port, if you choose so, and anyone can connect to the internet through that, without having any access to your LAN. It also uses a QoS which will never let your bandwidth drop from that public usage. That's security, and it's open. And who doesn't want to be able to use internet freely anywhere you can find wifi spots? I have 3G myself, but that's beyond the point here. If I have a wifi at home I want to let people freely use it for internet as to not be an hypocrite and even guests can easily access my files, just for reading access, so I don't need to keep setting up encryption and pass-phrases that are not whole compatible. I'll probably be bashed for promoting the non-usage of WPA 2 with AES or whatever, but I wanted to know from more experienced (super) users out there: what do you think? Is there really a need for encryption to have true wireless security?

• Facebook AS3 API publishPost() problem

  I'm trying to finish a facebook app using the AS3 API. Im having trouble when using the publishPost (message, attachment, action_links, target_id, uid) function. I can get it to post on the user's wall setting the uid=user.uid BUT I can't make it post on the user's friends wall! Setting the target_id=friend.uid isnt working for me I've also tried uid=friend.uid / target_id=friend.uid, uid=friend.uid/ I have granted ExtendedPermission(ExtendedPermissionValues.PUBLISH_STREAM) as in the documentation. I repeat: I can make it post on the current user´s wall but not on its friends'. Can someone help me with this?

• Lighting Fast CMS, a Django based CMS. Any experiences?

  I've just came across Lighting Fast CMS, which seems to be very promising Django based content management system. Documentation seem to be very good, even though it is still in beta stage. It also has very nice buildout based installation. Also core Components of it seem to be nicely decoupled. Does anyone have any experiences with it yet? How much one can customize it with extensions? How's extension development in general compared to Drupal or Plone? I'm hoping that I could do some projects with it instead of Plone or Drupal. • Converting cv::Mat to IplImage*

  The documentation on this seems incredibly spotty. I've basically got an empty array of IplImage*s (IplImage** imageArray) and I'm calling a function to import an array of cv::Mats - I want to convert my cv::Mat into an IplImage* so I can copy it into the array. Currently I'm trying this: while(loop over cv::Mat array) { IplImage* xyz = &(IplImage(array[i])); cvCopy(iplimagearray[i], xyz); } Which generates a segfault. Also trying: while(loop over cv::Mat array) { IplImage* xyz; xyz = &array[i]; cvCopy(iplimagearray[i], xyz); } Which gives me a compile time error of: error: cannot convert ‘cv::Mat*’ to ‘IplImage*’ in assignment Stuck as to how I can go further and would appreciate some advice :)

It's two lines long and its dying on the first word in the file. Of course this compiles in antlrworks. Any help appreciated, I can't afford any more adjustments to my medications.

  We are implementing an application with a webservice as component and decided to use the Glassfish 3.0 embedded distri to provide the webservice. And it works. We need a SSL(HTTPS) connection to the webservice, but we didn't find any documentation or hint how to activate it programmatically via the embedded API. Thus we tried to configure the embedded Glassfish via domain.xml, what has a listener configured with SSL. And the port is reachable but only without SSL. The embedded Glassfish seem to ignore the configuration to activate SSL for the port. Has anyone experience in configuring embedded Glassfish with SSL?

  Hi, In the Unity PerThreadLifetimeManager documentation, I read that: "This lifetime manager does not dispose the instances it holds". Ref.: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff647854.aspx So, if I am using a ThreadPool, does it mean that objects resolved using Unity on a Thread of the ThreadPool will not get disposed at the end of the work done in that thread before being returned to the pool? Any pattern or ideas how I can ensure that the objects do get disposed & I get a clean thread from the thread pool? Thanks!

  Hi I have compiled Mozilla NPAPI plugin example npruntime on Mac OSX 10.5. It give me a libnprt.dylib I am bundling this dylib with proper plist. On loading the plugin, NP_GetMIMEDescription() is getting called (i am logging this), but its not going inside NP_GetEntryPoints(). How a part of code is getting loaded and a part not? • How do I unescape HTML entities in a string in Python 3.1?

  I have looked all around and only found solutions for python 2.6 and earlier, NOTHING on how to do this in python 3.X. (I only have access to Win7 box.) I HAVE to be able to do this in 3.1 and preferably without external libraries. Currently, I have httplib2 installed and access to command-prompt curl (that's how I'm getting the source code for pages). Unfortunately, curl does not decode html entities, as far as I know, I couldn't find a command to decode it in the documentation. YES, I've tried to get Beautiful Soup to work, MANY TIMES without success in 3.X. If you could provide EXPLICIT instructions on how to get it to work in python 3 in MS Windows environment, I would be very grateful. So, to be clear, I need to turn strings like this: Suzy &amp; John into a string like this: "Suzy & John".

• Dashcode development for iPhone resources

  I've been developing web applications and iPhone applications for years. Now I want to create a web application oriented to the iPhone browser. I willing to use Dashcode, since it seams to have tons of cool features that make my web app look like an native iPhone app. The problem I face is twofold: On one side I don't know it Dashcode development will allow me to do all I want (session control, runtime datasources, etc); on the other side I'm having a hard time finding good documentation, tutorials and books on Dashcode programing for the iPhone. • How do I use Google protobuf to communicate over a serial port?

  I'm working on a project that uses RXTX and protobuf to communicate with an application on a development board and I've been running into issues which implies that I'm likely doing things the wrong way. Here's what I currently have for writing the request to the board (the read code is similar): public void write(CableCommandRequest request, OutputStream out) { CodedOutputStream outStream = CodedOutputStream.newInstance(out); request.writeTo(outStreatm); outStream.flush(); } The OutputStream that is used is prepared by RXTX and the development board seems to indicate that data is being received, but it is getting garbled or is otherwise not being understood. There seems to be little documentation on using protobuf over a serial connection so I'm assuming that passing the OutputStream should be sufficient. Is this in fact correct, or is this the wrong way of sending the response over the serial connection?

  Hi, is there any easy way of store XML data into core data? Currently, my app just pulls the values from the XML file directly, however, this isn't efficient for XML files which holds over 100 entries, thus storing the data in Core Data would be the best option. XML file is called/downloaded/parsed ever time the app opens. With the Core Data, the XML data would be downloaded ever 3600 seconds or so, and refresh the current data in the core data, to reduce the loading time when opening the app. Any ideas on how I can do this? Having reviewed the developer documentation, it doesn't look very tasty.

  I'm in the process of setting up a WCF Data Services web service and I'm trying to sort out the security configuration. Although there's quite a lot of documentation out there for configuring WCF security, a lot of it seems to be outmoded or does not apply to my scenario. Ultimately, I am planning on managing authorization of operations via change interceptors. Thus, all I really need is the simplest way to permit a client to pass credentials along with a request and to be able to authenticate those credentials against either AD or an ASP.NET membership provider (I'd much prefer the latter unless it makes things much more complicated). I'm intending to manage encryption at the transport level (i.e. HTTPS). I'm hoping that the eventual solution does not involve a huge web.config. Likewise, I'd much prefer to avoid writing custom code for the purpose of authentication.

• Business Owners - What Remote Desktop Solution Do You Use To Service Your Clients PCs?

  Howdy fellow computer geeks, I am the owner of a local computer repair business that primarily services its clients on-site. On the occasions that we do service the machines in the office we generally have one of our techs pick the computer up while they are out and about and bring it back with them. Only rarely will we require the customer to bring us the computer themselves. In order to reduce costs, be much more efficient, and potentially expand our market far beyond what would be feasible with travel required; I am looking at ways that we can service our clients remotely whenever possible. What we're in need of is a solid remote desktop application that will be incredibly easy for our customers to connect to, as well as be robust enough that we don't need the client babysitting the computer during the entire repair. Ideally I would like to use a web-based solution so that we don't have to walk the customers through installing, connecting, and configuring it over the phone. This would be unacceptable because of the level of service they are used to. Effectively we'd want them to be able to just go to a URL, enter a PIN or something, and then they are connected and ready to rumble. (Obviously the option to just email them a link that'd do all this for them would be what we'd be aiming for) Along with the ease of use factor, we would need the product to not require any further intervention on the part of the client after we have connected. Nobody is going to be happy if we have to call them every 15 minutes so they can reconnect to us every time we reboot - so auto-reconnect is an absolute must. The only product I know of right now that does any of this is LogMeIn Rescue. It allows unattended access, the applet is lightweight and installs quickly, and the customer can either enter a PIN on the site or just click a link emailed to them in order to connect. The only real downside I see to LogMeIn Rescue is that it's $120.00/month per technician. While we'd ultimately end up saving far more than that per month just in fuel costs alone, I'd like to explore any other options out there that I may not have come across. So - Are there any equally good products out there? If so what are they, why do you recommend them, how have you been utilizing them yourself, and what do they cost?   Hello: I am designing a report that will be used in local mode (an RDLC file) in a Winform app. I have a custom assembly with a static class that has some functions that I want to use inside of the report (as expressions). I have found all sorts of help for doing this with RDL reports, but I'm running into a permissions problem with my RDLC report. I get the following error at runtime: "The report references the code module (my module), which is not a trusted assembly". I know that this is some kind of a code security issue, but I'm not sure what to do to fix it. The documentation that I have seen online is aimed at RDL reports, and it instructs me to edit a SQL Server-specific policy file. I'm using RDLC, so there is no sql server involved. What do I need to do to acquire the appropriate permissions?

• Saving custom attributes in NSAttributedString

  I need to add a custom attribute to the selected text in an NSTextView. So I can do that by getting the attributed string for the selection, adding a custom attribute to it, and then replacing the selection with my new attributed string. So now I get the text view's attributed string as NSData and write it to a file. Later when I open that file and restore it to the text view my custom attributes are gone! After working out the entire scheme for my custom attribute I find that custom attributes are not saved for you. Look at the IMPORTANT note here: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/DOCUMENTATION/Cocoa/Conceptual/AttributedStrings/Tasks/RTFAndAttrStrings.html So I have no idea how to save and restore my documents with this custom attribute. Any help?

• Catching OutOfMemoryError

  Documentation for java.lang.Error says: An Error is a subclass of Throwable that indicates serious problems that a reasonable application should not try to catch But as java.lang.Error is subclass of java.lang.Throwable I can catch this type of throwable. I understand why this is not good idea to catch this sort of exceptions. As far as I understand, if we decide to caught it, the catch handler should not allocate any memory by itself. Otherwise OutOfMemoryError will be thrown again. So, my question is: is there any real word scenarios when catching java.lang.OutOfMemoryError may be a good idea? if we catching java.lang.OutOfMemoryError how can we sure that catch handler doesn't allocate any memory by itself (any tools or best practicies)? Thanks a lot.
