• Access variable value using string representing variable's name

  Hello everyone, If the title was not clear, I will try to clarify what I am asking: Imagine I have a variable called counter, I know I can see its current value by doing something like: std::cout << counter << std::endl; However, assume I have lots of variables and I don't know which I'm going to want to look at until runtime. Does anyone know a way I can fetch the value of a variable by using its name, for example: std::cout << valueOf("counter") << std::endl; I feel being able to do this might make debugging large complex projects easier. • SQL Server (TSQL) - Is it possible to EXEC statements in parallel?

  SQL Server 2008 R2 Here is a simplified example: EXECUTE sp_executesql N'PRINT ''1st '' + convert(varchar, getdate(), 126) WAITFOR DELAY ''000:00:10''' EXECUTE sp_executesql N'PRINT ''2nd '' + convert(varchar, getdate(), 126)' The first statement will print the date and delay 10 seconds before proceeding. The second statement should print immediately. The way T-SQL works, the 2nd statement won't be evaluated until the first completes. If I copy and paste it to a new query window, it will execute immediately. The issue is that I have other, more complex things going on, with variables that need to be passed to both procedures. What I am trying to do is: Get a record Lock it for a period of time while it is locked, execute some other statements against this record and the table itself Perhaps there is a way to dynamically create a couple of jobs? Anyway, I am looking for a simple way to do this without having to manually PRINT statements and copy/paste to another session. Is there a way to EXEC without wait / in parallel?

• Updating .net 4.0 machine.config seems to have no effect

  I'm feeling stupid. I've just created my first ASP.net 4.0 site after working my way though over the years from 1.1 upwards. We have several settings at the machine.config level that I need to migrate to the new 4.0 machine.config. I though I had be adding the required connection strings to the connection string section of the following two files: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\machine.config C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\machine.config When I created a new website in IIS and assigned it to the ASP.net 4.0 Application pool I only get the default LocalSqlServer connection string. I tried editing the name of this in the two files above to indicate which file it was in, but there was no change. Are there machine.config files in other locations I should be looking at?

This URL is a redirect to another page with query string, I already have a page that parses the query string and write the output to a page. But response is blank. How can i get this data?

  I have a RESTful WCF service with a method declared like this: [OperationContract(Name = "IncrementAge")] [WebInvoke(UriTemplate = "/", Method = "POST", ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)] Person IncrementAge(Person p); Here's the implementation: public Person IncrementAge(Person p) { p.age++; return p; } So it takes the Person complex type, increments the age property by one, and spits it back, using JSON serialization. I can test the thing by sending a POST message to the service like this: POST http://localhost:3602/RestService.svc/ HTTP/1.1 Host: localhost:3602 User-Agent: Fiddler Content-Type: application/json Content-Length: 51 {"age":25,"firstName":"Hejhaj","surName":"Csuhaj"} This works. What if I'd like to have a method like this? Person IncrementAge(Person p, int amount); So it'd have multiple parameters. How should I construct the POST message for this to work? Is this possible?   hi all i am trying to make a musical app for iphone. the app is simple. there is a couple of musical note sample (caf) files. when user taps the predefined positions on uiview(like strings). app plays note sample and add a string value to a nsmutablearray about note. played note lists displays in a table. now i want to add a shake and play mode to app. when user shake iphone, recorded notes start to play from first record to last record and loop again. also if user shake iphone harder notes will plays faster. how can i do that. any idea? thanks

  When joining to a subset of a table, any reason to prefer one of these formats over the other? Subquery version: SELECT ... FROM Customers AS c INNER JOIN (SELECT * FROM Classification WHERE CustomerType = 'Standard') AS cf ON c.TypeCode = cf.Code INNER JOIN SalesReps s ON cf.SalesRepID = s.SalesRepID vs the WHERE clause at the end: SELECT ... FROM Customers AS c INNER JOIN Classification AS cf ON c.TypeCode = cf.Code INNER JOIN SalesReps AS s ON cf.SalesRepID = s.SalesRepID WHERE cf.CustomerType = 'Standard' The WHERE clause at the end feels more "traditional", but the first is arguably more clear, especially as the joins get increasingly complex. Only other reason I can think of to prefer the second is that the "SELECT *" on the first might be returning columns that aren't used later (In this case, I'd probably only need to return cf.Code and Cf.SalesRepID)

• Why is my regex so much slower compiled than interpreted ?

  I have a large and complex C# regex that runs OK when interpreted, but is a bit slow. I'm trying to speed this up by setting RegexOptions.Compiled, and this seems to take about 30 seconds for the first time and instantly after that. I'm trying to negate this by compiling the regex to an assembly first, so my app can be as fast as possible. My problem is when the compiling delay takes place: Regex myComplexRegex = new Regex(regexText, RegexOptions.Compiled); MatchCollection matches = myComplexRegex.Matches(searchText); foreach (Match match in matches) // <--- when the one-time long delay kicks in { } This is making compiling to an assembly basically useless, as I still get the delay on the first foreach call. What I want is for all the compiling delay to be done in advance when I compile to the assembly, not when the user runs the app. Where am I going wrong ? (The code I'm using to compile to an assembly is similar to http://www.dijksterhuis.org/regular-expressions-advanced/ , if that's relevant ).

• Working with Foreign languages

  My DB needs to hold strings containing foreign language characters such that; User enters string into form, form submitted and string added to DB, string will be displayed on page for viewing. I would like to use UTF8 as this will be able to handle all of the required languages. Currently I believe my DB is set to 'latin1' but webpages are capable of displaying correct charachters anyways. Problems arise when trying to set textareas to hold foreign charachters and when viewing DB via command-line. How can I implement this most effectively? My plan was to blitz the whole site such that:DB Charset is UTF8 and web pages charset is UTF8. Could someone give me the minimal commands on how to do this so I don't end up duplicating things (Having "UTF8" commands everywhere when I really just need one) and making things too difficult to control.   Hi, the question is hard to define without giving an example, e.g. I'd like to achieve something like this : SELECT (CASE WHEN ...) AS FieldA, 20 + FieldA AS FieldB FROM Tbl Assuming that by "..." I've replaced a long and complex CASE statement, hence I don't want to repeat it when selecting FieldB and use the aliased FieldA instead. IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE? What could be a workaround? Note, that this will return multiple rows , hence the DECLARE/SET outside the SELECT statement is no good in my case. PLEASE HELP. P.S. I am using SQL 2008

• What's the best way to test MSSQL connection programmatically?

  I need to develop a single routine that will be fired each 5 minutes to check if a list of MSSQL servers (10 to 12) are up and running. I can try to obtain a simple query in each one of the servers but this means that I have to create a table, view or stored procedure in every server, even if I use any already made SP I need to have a registered user in each server too. The servers are not in the same phisical location so having those requirements would be a complex task. Is there a way to simply "ping" from c# one MSSQL server? Thanks in advance!

But to see if they are duplicates I need to see the fist element in the array. what I have tried is let NotDuplicated = Duplicated.[0] |> Seq.distinct let NotDuplicated = Duplicated |> Seq.distinctBy id but nothing is working... can you guys please help me.. thanks!!

• Taxonomy terms are not translated in an exposed filters block

  Hi, in my view's exposed filters block the taxonomy terms are showed only in the original language version (in English). Vocabulary is set to Localize terms. The terms are translated via Translation Table. All the other content (Views, nodes, translated strings etc.) is showed correctly (in German). I'd expect them to appear in current language, however. Here for instance, I'd expect to have German Sommer 10 instead of English Summer 10. Do You have any idea how to solve it? I use Drupal 6 and Views 2.10

• Caching result of SELECT statement for reuse in multiple queries

  I have a reasonably complex query to extract the Id field of the results I am interested in based on parameters entered by the user. After extracting the relevant Ids I am using the resulting set of Ids several times, in separate queries, to extract the actual output record sets I want (by joining to other tables, using aggregate functions, etc). I would like to avoid running the initial query separately for every set of results I want to return. I imagine my situation is a common pattern so I am interested in what the best approach is. The database is in MS SQL Server and I am using .NET 3.5.

  I have a file that has 22268 rows BY 2521 columns. When I try to read in the file using this line of code: file <- read.table(textfile, skip=2, header=TRUE, sep="\t", fill=TRUE, blank.lines.skip=FALSE) I get the following error: Warning message: In scan(file, what, nmax, sep, dec, quote, skip, nlines, na.strings, : number of items read is not a multiple of the number of columns I also used this command to see what rows had an incorrect number of columns: x <-count.fields("train.gct", sep="\t", skip=2) which(x != 2521) and got back a list of about 20 rows that were incorrect. Is there a way to fill these rows with NA values? I thought that is what the "fill" parameter does in the read.table function, but it doesn't appear so. Any help would be greatly appreciated. • Pulling international street addresses / phone numbers from free-form text

  Hey, folks. I'm looking for some regular expressions to help grab street addresses and phone numbers from free-form text (a la Gmail). Given some text: "John, I went to the store today, and it was awesome! Did you hear that they moved to 500 Green St.? ... Give me a call at +14252425424 when you get a chance." I'd like to be able to pull out: 500 Green St. (recognized as a street address) +14252425424 (recognized as a phone number) What makes this problem easier is that I don't care about parsing text that gets pulled out. That is, I don't care that Green is the name of the road or that 425 is the area code. I just want to grab strings that "look like" addresses or telephone numbers. Unfortunately, this needs to work internationally, as best as possible. Anyone have any leads? Thanks!

• How detect length of a numpy array with only one element?

  I am reading in a file using numpy.genfromtxt which brings in columns of both strings and numeric values. One thing I need to do is detect the length of the input. This is all fine provided there are more than one value read into each array. But...if there is only one element in the resulting array, the logic fails. I can recreate an example here: import numpy as np a = np.array(2.3) len(a) returns an error saying: TypeError: len() of unsized object however, If a has 2 or more elements, len() behaves as one would expect. import numpy as np a = np.array([2.3,3.6]) len(a) returns 2 My concern here is, if I use some strange exception handling, I can't distinguish between a being empty and a having length = 1.

  I have two pools of strings and I would like to do a loop over both. For example, if I want to put two labeled apples in one plate I'll write: basket1 = ['apple#1', 'apple#2', 'apple#3', 'apple#4'] for fruit1 in basket1: basket2 = ['apple#1', 'apple#2', 'apple#3', 'apple#4'] for fruit2 in basket2: if fruit1 == fruit2: print 'Oops!' else: print "New Plate = %s and %s" % (fruit1, fruit2) However, I don't want order to matter -- for example I am considering apple#1-apple#2 equivalent to apple#2-apple#1. What's the easiest way to code this? I'm thinking about making a counter in the second loop to track the second basket and not starting from the point-zero in the second loop every time.

  Whether we're maintaining unfamiliar code or checking out the implementation details of an Apache module it can help if we can quickly traverse the code and build up an overview of what we're looking at. Grep serves most of my daily needs but there are some cases where it just wont do. Here's a common example of how it can help. To find the definition of a PHP function I'm interested in I can type this at the command line: grep -r "function myfunc" . This could be adapted very quickly to C or C++ if we know the return type, but things become more complicated if, say, I want to list every method that my class provides: grep "function " ./src/mine.class.php Since there's no single keyword that denotes a function or method in C++ and because it's generally more complex syntax, I think I'd need some kind of static code analysis tool, smart use of the C Preprocessor or blind faith the coder followed strict code guidelines (# of whitespace, position of curlies etc) to get these sorts of results. What would you recommend? p.s. be nice, this is my first post ;-) :p

  For this word ????????????? the Unicode is== \u0938\u0941\u0916\u091A\u0948\u0928\u093E\u0928\u0940 \u0930\u0940\u091D\u0941\u092E\u0932 \u091C\u093F\u0935\u0924\u0930\u093E\u092E and look it has spaces before \u0930 and \u091C But when I am trying in my code String tempString=Strings.toEscapedUnicode(strString); This method to convert to Unicode gives a result without spaces: \u0938\u0941\u0916\u091A\u0948\u0928\u093E\u0928\u0940\u0930\u0940\u091D\u0941\u092E\u0932\u091C\u093F\u0935\u0924\u0930\u093E\u092E and that's why they are not matching. My 'toEscapeUnicode' method generates Unicode without spaces. I want the spaces, so how to do it?

  I am trying to solve the following problem. I have the following constants in my header file: #define PREFS_MY_CONSTANT_1 @"bla1" #define PREFS_MY_CONSTANT_2 @"bla2" #define PREFS_MY_CONSTANT_3 @"bla3" ... In one of my functions, I'd like to print to the UIbutton one of those strings based on user input, so say the user inputs '1', i would show bla1. Instead of creating a huge switch (i have 100 of those), I am looking for a way to combine the constant with the variable holding the user input, so something like that ideally: NSInteger input; [button setTitle:PREFS_MY_CONSTANT_{$input} forState: UIControlStateNormal]; Is something like that possible? what would be the best way to solve this?

• ExpandEnvironmentStrings Not Expanding My Variables

  I have a process under the Run key in the registry. It is trying to access an environment variable that I have defined in a previous session. I'm using ExpandEnvironmentStrings to expand the variable within a path. The environment variable is a user profile variable. When I run my process on the command line it does not expand as well. If I call 'set' I can see the variable. Some code...
