• Problem connecting to Hsqldb via Hibernate when running a Eclipse GWT project.

  Hi, I'm trying to run a simple GWT project where I'm trying to do a simple persitence via hibernate to a HSQLDB database. The database I'm using I have been using for at least 2 years with several osgi applications without any problems. So all I done is reused the same configuration and added a simple object mapping file. The problem I have is that I get a socket creation error when ever I try to persist the object with in GWT jetty. I now the database is up and running, I can telnet to it, run OSGI projects that uses the same config with out problems.   Last time I create WAS profile and WASService then I try to config and run many script for learn how to config WAS, Finally it crash so i use wasprofile delete this profile and forgot delete WASService. Now I found IBM Webphere Application Server service display in services.msc list, so I tried to delete it with WASService.exe -remove command and windows SC command but I got message C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\bin>sc delete "IBMWAS61Service - DEV" [SC] DeleteService FAILED 1072: The specified service has been marked for deletion.

• Redmine on Apache2 with Passenger issue

  I installed Redmine and run it in Apache2 with the Passenger module. Apache2 boots, Passenger module gets loaded and the Redmine welcome page is shown, however when trying to login or navigate to other parts of the Redmine site, the browser keeps loading and loading and loading forever, although the Redmine production.log indicates redirects and HTTP 200 codes in the header, so everything seems to work correctly according to the log. I tested in various browsers. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong? I will add apache configuration and some relevant log snippets from both apache and redmine hereafter. One difference I noticed between the test and production environment is when I used the soap url in the browser the production site pops up a 'Authentication Required' popup. When I gives my proxy username and password in this popup, it shows the soap request details. The same is applicable for the login url also. First it will ask for the 'Authentication' then it will take to the sugar crm login page? Is it a server security setting? If it is then how to set this user name and password using java in a web service call. The authentication required popup is same as the one which comes when we try to access the tomcat manager through a browser. Thanks

  I've been trying to get an SSL connection to an LDAPS server (Active Directory) to work, but keep having problems. I tried using this: openssl s_client -connect the.server.edu:3269 With the following result: verify error:num=20:unable to get local issuer certificate I thought, OK, well server's an old production server a few years old. Maybe the CA isn't present. I then pulled the certificate from the output into a pem file and tried: openssl s_client -CAfile mycert.pem -connect the.server.edu:3269 And that didn't work either. What am I missing? Shouldn't that ALWAYS work?

Please note that when I test the zVersion2wsSQL webservice independently (from INETMGR right-mouse and click Browse) it works as expected (i.e. presenting all the methods of the webservice) like this snippet: GetMessageByType MessageName="Get_x0020_Message_x0020_By_x0020_Type" I can test this webmethod by clicking on it and it presents the Test dialog (because it takes a simple datatype and I am invoking it on localhost (i.e. MOJITO): **Get Message By Type** **Test** To test the operation using the HTTP POST protocol, click the 'Invoke' button. • Sharepoint "List does not exist" after site import

  I'm try to copy a site from a production WSS 3.0 server to a testing server in a different farm to try some changes. The export using stsadm works as expected, I create the target site in the test farm and the import finished without error. The site in question makes use of some of the 'Sharepoint Boost' products and those are installed and activated on the destination server. When I try to access the site, I receive the error- "List does not exist The page you selected contains a list that does not exist. It may have been deleted by another user." Any specific guidance might be helpful, but this is the most useless message I've seen. What's the process for troubleshooting this - Is there a more verbose log that contains more information somewhere?

• Why does tracerpt use up all of my Sql Server's memory?

  We have a MS Sql Server 2008 machine with 12 GB of RAM... twice now within the last week this server was knocked on its backside by a process called "tracerpt.exe" which was found to have taken up ALL of the system's memory and leaving nothing for sqlserver. Done my homework, figured out what this program is... but still no idea why it's hogging up so much RAM (though I have an idea), nor what application is actually executing it. This server is the back-end to a Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 application which is hosted on a separate server and is our production database used for just about everything. If this program is necessary, I would like to be able to find the application that is executing this thing and remove it or disable whatever feature is causing this quite annoying occurrence. Any ideas?

• IIS mystery: "Deadlock detected" periodically makes site unavailable

  A few times a day, our vb.net (IIS 6.0) website is randomly throwing the following error and becomes completely unavailable for 5-15 minutes at a time while the application is recycled: ISAPI 'c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll' reported itself as unhealthy for the following reason: 'Deadlock detected'. The website ran for months on the exact same server in beta without problem - but the problem started over the weekend when we made the site live. The live site is under some load but less than many of our other production websites. How should I attack this problem? I've looked into orphaning the worker process and creating a dump file - but I'm not sure how to analyze that. Any advice or information is appreciated. Thanks, Shane

• ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider and ADAM (or AD LDS) and SetPassword

  By the subject line it seems to be a rather broad subject and I need some help here. Basically what I want is to use ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider with an ADAM instance to authenticate users in an ASP.NET web application. My development environment is a windows 7 machine with an AD LDS instance on it whilst the QA server is a Windows 2003 server with an ADAM instance on it. I have all the required users on both instances plus one with adminsitrator role (CN=Admin,CN=xxx,DC=xxx,C=xx) which I want to use as the connection user. Using connectonProtecton="None" connectionUsername="CN=Admin,CN=xxx,DC=xxx,C=xx" connectionPassword="xxx" I am able to authenticate on both environments (dev & qa). If I change to the connectionProtection to "Secure" I am not able to authenticate anymore; the error I get is "Parser Error Message: Unable to establish secure connection with the server" To me it sounds wrong to use connectionProtection="None" although I found on the net a lot of samples using this setting. Can I use connectionProtection="Secure" to connect to an ADAM instance using an account defined on that instance having Administrator role? What other choices do I have (like using an domain account)? What if my machine where I am to deploy the application is not a part of the domain, will this affect in any way the behavior? I am novice in the respect so I would really appreciate some clear answers or some directions as where to look? Now beside the "signing in" feature of the ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider I also want to add an extra one, which is setting the password without knowing the old one (something that will be used by a "reset password" feature). So I added a couple of extension methods to the provider, and used System.DirectoryServices classes like DirectoryEntry and the like. When creating a directory entry I use the same credentials provided in web.config for the provider minus the AuthenticationType as I don't know what is right combination of the flags that corresponds to None/Secure. I am able to use Invoke "SetPassword" with ADS_OPTION_PASSWORD_METHOD option as ADS_PASSWORD_ENCODE_CLEAR on my dev machine (w/ AD LDS instance); nevertheless on qa environment (w/ ADAM instance) I am getting an error like "Exception Details: System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException: An operations error occurred. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80072020)" I am quite sure it is not about AD LDS vs ADAM but probably another configuration / permission issue. So can anyone help me with some hints on how to use this SetPassword feature? And as a general question what are the best practices when it comes to using ADAM regarding security, programming etc? • How do I mount an EBS root volume to a windows instance in Amazon EC2

  So basically, I created a large windows server for development, and then I created a micro windows server for production. I set up everything how I wanted it on my development server, and then i unmounted the drives, and mounted them to my micro server. Now I'm trying to get back into my large windows development server, and I'm getting the error. Invalid value 'i-4896ce28' for instanceId. Instance does not have a volume attached at root (/dev/sda1) this error pops up when I try to start my large windows server. I've remounted the drives to the large development server, and I still get this message. I'm not really sure what to do, I've read other posts and everyone is giving these almost like command line arguments and talking about other tools, and I really have no clue what any of that means, or where I even have an option to enter any commands without be logged into a specific instance.

• WPF Animation FPS vs. CPU usage - Am I expecting too much?

  Working on a screen saver for my wife, http://cchearts.codeplex.com/, and while I've been able to improve FPS on lower end machines (switch from Path to StreamGeometry, use DrawingVisual instead of UserControl, etc) the CPU usage still seems very high. Here's some numbers I ran from a few 5 minute sampling periods: ~60FPS 35% average CPU on Core 2 Duo T7500 @ 2.2GHz, 3GB ram, NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (128MB), Vista [My dev laptop] ~40FPS 50% average CPU on Pentium D @ 3.4GHz, 1.5GB ram, Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (unknown), 2003 Server [A crappy desktop] I can understand the lower frame rate and higher CPU usage on the crappy desktop but it still seems pretty high and 35% on my dev laptop seems high as well. I'd really like to analyze the application to get more details but I'm having issues there as well so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong (never profiled WPF before). WPF Performance Suite: Process Launch Error Unable to attach to process: CCHearts.exe Do you want to kill it? This error message occurs when I click cancel after attempting launch. If I don't click cancel it sits there idle, I guess waiting to attach. Performance Explorer: Could not launch C:\Projects2\CC.Hearts\CC.Hearts\bin\Debug (USEVISUAL)\CCHearts.exe. Previous attempt to profile the application finished unsuccessfully. Please restart the application. Output Window from Performance: Profiling started. Profiling process ID 5360 (CCHearts). Process ID 5360 has exited. Data written to C:\Projects2\CC.Hearts\CCHearts100608.vsp. Profiling finished. PRF0025: No data was collected. Profiling complete. So I'm stuck wanting to improve performance but have no concrete way to determine where the bottleneck is. Edit: My RenderOptions darts... // NOTE: Grasping at straws here ;-) RenderOptions.SetBitmapScalingMode(newHeart, BitmapScalingMode.LowQuality); RenderOptions.SetCachingHint(newHeart, CachingHint.Cache); RenderOptions.SetEdgeMode(newHeart, EdgeMode.Aliased); I threw those a little while back and didn't see much difference (not sure if the bitmap scaling even comes into play). Really wish I could get profiling working to know where I should try to optimize. For now I assume there is some overhead in creating a new HeartVisual and the DrawingVisual contained inside. Maybe if I reset and reused the hearts (tossed them in a queue once they completed or something) I'd see an improvement. Shrug Throwing darts while blindfolder is always fun.

  I just upgraded Ubuntu from 11.10 to 12.04. My rails app now returns the (passenger) error "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111) (Mysql2::Error)". I get a similar error when I try to access mysql at the command line on my Ubuntu server using mysql -u root -p. I have mysql-server 5.5 installed. I've checked and mysql is not running. Dean Richardson Update: Thanks to quanta's suggestion, I looked at the /var/log/mysql/error.log file. I found error messages relating to pointers, fatal signals, and more stuff that I really couldn't make much sense of. I also found mysql man page references, however. One suggested that I try starting mysqld with the --innodb_force_recovery=# option, then attempt to dump (or drop) the offending/corrupted database or table. I worked through the escalating option levels one-by-one (innodb_force_recovery=1, innodb_force_recovery=2, etc.) This allowed me to successfully run mysql -u root -p from the command line and execute several commands. I was able to run queries on my production database, but any attempt to query, dump, or even drop my development database raised an error and led to me losing the connection to mysql. So I've made progress, but until I'm somehow able to drop or repair my development db I'm still unable to get my app to load. Any further advice or suggestions? Thanks! • dual boot xp/xp, now win7/xp getting no xp

  I have a laptop on which I have two drives with separate XP installs, one barebones for music production, the other "normal" XP with Office etc. (Unfortunately the bios won't give a boot disk choice) Normally I would be presented with two WinXPs on booting. Selecting the second one would get me into the "normal installation on disk 1 (C).Selecting the first in boot order would give me D: (disk 2) withe barebones XP. However, I installed Windows 7 Home onto disk 1 (C:), but there were no dual boot options anymore, even though I installed DualBoot Pro and added WinXP disk D:. The options now show show up, but seletcing Win XP just turns into a reboot back to where I started. Any help would be much appreciated

In my development environment, I use a virtual-host for each project. The virtual-host for a project is configured during the "deploytodevelopment" ANT task. Which method would you recommend for integrating PHP into my build process? Change the virtual-hosts setup to point to the workspace/myproject/src folder. Edit the PHP in the workspace/myproject/src folder. or Check out another working copy of the myproject/src folder to the build/myproject folder. I can remove the errors using "remove error markers" and my site runs perfect (I can browse it) but I want to get rid definitively of this problem since errors appear again after I removed them. Any ideas?

  I'm using the W3C CSS Validator with the Profile CSS3 but the validator says that my CSS rgba()'s are wrong. I looked up the Color Module Level 3, and the syntax is the same as mine. I also tried the Dev-Validator, same result. Example input: div.class { border: 1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5); } Am I wrong or why does the validator say that I have that many mistakes with rgba?

• Howto WCF Service HTTPS Binding and Endpoint Configuration in IIS with Load Balancer?

  We have a WCF service that is being hosted on a set of 12 machines. There is a load balancer that is a gateway to these machines. Now the site is setup as SSL; as in a user accesses it through using an URL with https. I know this much, the URL that addresses the site is https, but none of the servers has a https binding or is setup to require SSL. This leads me to believe that the load balancer handles the https and the connection from the balancer to the servers are unencrypted (this takes place behind the firewall so no biggie there). The problem we're having is that when a Silverlight client tries to access a WCF service it is getting a "Not Found" error. I've set up a test site along with our developer machines and have made sure that the bindings and endpoints in the web.config work with the client. It seems to be the case in the production environment that we get this error. Is there anything wrong with the following web.config? Should we be setting up how https is handled in a different manner? We're at a loss on this currently since I've tried every programmatic solution with endpoints and bindings. None of the solutions I have found deal with a load balancer in the manner we're dealing.
