• What's the best way to cancel an asynchronous WCF request?

  (Assuming a WCF method called "MyFunction") Currently, to support canceling a WCF request, I'm using the BeginMyFunction/EndMyFunction methods generated by svcutil (and handling an isCanceled flag when dispatching the results to the main thread). I'd like to use the MyFunctionAsync method (and hooking into MyFunctionAsyncCompleted event instead) for async calls instead of Begin/End. What is the best/supported way to handle canceling WCF requests if using MyFunctionAsyncCompleted, and still ensuring that the event doesn't get fired on a page that's no longer loaded (i.e. page navigation within a frame). • How to prevent the beep sound caused by alt key pressed in a WinForms TextBox?

  I'm creating a routine that allows the user to replicate keyboard shortcuts into a textbox for 'custom keyboard shortcuts' customization, but every time the alt key is pressed with another letter, it produces another sound. I'm capturing the keys in the textbox_keydown event to parse the modifiers + other keys into a readable Shift + A or Ctrl + Shift + B manner into that very same textbox. Should I be doing this in a different event like textbox_previewkey instead of textbox_keydown? How can I prevent the alt modifier key + a letter or number causing the Beep sound? the textbox is just a normal .net 3.5 textbox with the only edited properties of it being the ReadOnly property to false. Is there a better way I could re-do this? I'm currently just checking that if any modifiers keys are pressed and then + a-z or 0-9, then to go ahead and input the appropriately pressed keys into that same textbox like Shift + A or Ctrl + Shift + Y.

• Is there an optimal way to render images in cocoa? Im using setNeedsDisplay

  Currently, any time I manually move a UIImage (via handling the touchesMoved event) the last thing I call in that event is [self setNeedsDisplay], which effectively redraws the entire view. My images are also being animated, so every time a frame of animation changes, i have to call setNeedsDisplay. I find this to be horrific since I don't expect iphone/cocoa to be able to perform such frequent screen redraws very quickly. Is there an optimal, more efficient way that I could be doing this? Perhaps somehow telling cocoa to update only a particular region of the screen (the rect region of the image)?

  I have a class derived from QGraphicsView, which contains QGraphicsItem-derived elements. I want these elements to change color whenever the mouse cursor hovers over them, so I implemented hoverEnterEvent (and hoverLeaveEvent): void MyGraphicsItem::hoverEnterEvent(QGraphicsSceneHoverEvent* event) { update (boundingRect()); } However, this event handler code is never executed. • Swing Timer in Conjunction with Possible Long-running Background Task

  I need to perform a task repeatedly that affects both GUI-related and non GUI-related objects. One caveat is that no action should performed if the previous task had not completed when the next timer event is fired. My initial thoughts are to use a SwingTimer in conjunction with a javax.swing.SwingWorker object.   I'm trying to create something similar to the diggbar : http://digg.com/http://cnn.com I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and Asp Development server. However, I can't get the ASP dev server to handle the request because it contains "http:" in the path. I've tried to create an HTTPModule to rewrite the URL in the BeginRequest , but the event handler doesn't get called when the url is http://localhost:5957/http://yahoo.com. The event handler does get called if the url is http://localhost:5957/http/yahoo.com To summarize http://localhost:5957/http/yahoo.com works http://localhost:5957/http//yahoo.com does not work http://localhost:5957/http://yahoo.com does not work http://localhost:5957/http:/yahoo.com does not work Any ideas?

  I am using jQuery. I keep all of my function definitions wrapped in the $(document).ready event in application.js. I have a function from it that I would like to call somewhere in the body of the page I am working on. I was wondering if there is some alternative to the .ready event that will work on a script load. Ideally I would like to do something like: $('application.js').ready( call function ); In the jQuery documentation it only mentions the $(document).ready call but I was wondering if this can be altered or if there is some plain javascript alternative.

• WPF webbrowser - get HTML downloaded?

  I'm listening to the WPF webbrowser's LoadCompleted event. It has some navigation arguments which provide details regarding the navigation. However, e.Content is always null. Am I paying attention to the wrong event here? How can I fetch the HTML that was just downloaded as string? I tried some things which I would consider hacks, but they return a string of HTML, even though that was not the string downloaded. For instance, with that method when I go to a page which just sends me the string abc, I get the result <document><body>abc</body></document> or something similar. I would prefer not getting into any more hacks than nescessary to get this running.

  Hi All, I'm creating a web server control that has an image button on it. The html for the control is done in the RenderControls of the code, the control devrives from WebControl, IScriptControl, INamingContainer. The button is coded as follow in the RenderControls: System.Web.UI.WebControls.ImageButton img = new System.Web.UI.WebControls.ImageButton(); img.ImageUrl = "Url of the image"; img.Click += new ImageClickEventHandler(img_Click); img.ID = this.ClientID + "_img"; img.CausesValidation = false; imgLock.RenderControl(output); The button apreas in the browser but when i click on it, the page postsback but the event handler for the button doesn't get fired, from what i can figure out, since the control goes throught RenderControls eachtime the page is posted back, the button gets redrawn and the event handling disapears. This server control is in a master page. Anyone can help me on this? Thanks

  I am trying to implement a ListSelectionListener for some of my JTables. Simply (at the moment) the ListSelectionListener is supposed to simply return the text of the cell that was selected. My program design has several JTables and I would like to have one ListSelectionListener work for them all. In the valueChanged event of the ListSelectionListener I thought it was possible to do something like: private class SelectionHandler implements ListSelectionListener { public void valueChanged(ListSelectionEvent e) { JTable table = (JTable)e.getSource(); String data = (String) table.getValueAt(table.getSelectedRow(), 0); // Print data } } But when I do this I a ClassCastException error. Is there a way to do something like this? One solution I thought of was to compare the source of the event (e.getSource()) to all my JTables to see if they were equivalent (big if block) and then just calling .getValueAt inside that block but that would making the code in the future difficult if tables were to be added or removed.

• Is there a browser-agnostic way to detect client-side script errors with Watin?

  We're using WatiN to test our web portals. During the course of an E2E test, we'll occasionally see client-side script errors on the IE status bar. I'd like to chain a handler onto the script error event and record the error for later analysis and bug filing. Problem is, I don't know that there's a global script error event or how to chain into it. And if there's not a browser-agnostic way to accomplish this, I can create MyIE and MyFF subclasses but then this becomes two browser-specific questions. In essence, I'm thinking of something like this entirely made-up call: browser.ScriptEngine.SetCustomErrorHandler(LogScriptingError); ... where LogScriptErrors is my code that does the obvious. Many of our client-side scripting errors don't necessarily prevent the test from continuing (a pretty UI element didn't animate, for example, but the underlying form is still submittable), so I'd like to log the error and forge ahead in most cases.

  Hi, is it possible to capture a click event on a scrollbar? I have some code where i am observing the click and mousedown events on the document. However, it seems that when I click on the scrollbar, the event is not captured. This leads me to believe that the scrollbars aren't really part of the document. (Assumption :-)) Is this a correct assumption?   So here I have two classes: Customer Order Class and Confirmation Class. I want to access the data stored in LastNameTextField (Customer Order Class) and set it as the text for UserLastNameLabel (Confirmation Class) after clicking a "Submit" button. For some reason however, the output displays nothing. • Website with Microsites & Blog - recommendations

  Hi guys, I'm in the process of scoping a solution for an events organisation. Their main website features information about them and blog entries etc, but they hold major events which require microsites (domain.com/event). The microsites all have a different look-and-feel, different nav structure, and custom content-managed components. The one thing that's common across everything is the blog - it will have a category for each event under which users can post. The main site will display all blog posts, but the microsites will only display posts for their category. How would you guys implement this? The solution needs to be PHP, and my initial thought was CodeIgniter but if possible I'd like to avoid building the blog functionality - so I guess I could integrate it with EE or Wordpress. If anyone has any other suggestions they would be most appreciated.
