• Winlogon.exe causes C++ runtime error

  Recently I've become unable to log into my Dell Precision M2400. It uses the Dell Controlpoint login GUI instead of the typical windows one, and has now started giving me a runtime error on winlogon.exe that ends with a c000021a BSOD. I have tried running through safe mode and a restore to the last known good setting with no success. Unfortunately by BIOS password is locked and the one IT guy with the password is on vacation and unreachable until after I leave for a business trip. Is there anyway to bypass the Dell logon screen and get to the default windows one? Thanks.

• Problem getting correct parameters for C# P/Invoke call to C++ dll

  Trying to Interop a functionality from the Outside In API from Oracle. Have the following function: SCCERR EXOpenExport {VTHDOC hDoc, VTDWORD dwOutputId, VTDWORD dwSpecType, VTLPVOID pSpec, VTDWORD dwFlags, VTSYSPARAM dwReserved, VTLPVOID pCallbackFunc, VTSYSPARAM dwCallbackData, VTLPHEXPORT phExport); From the header files I reduced the parameters to: typedef VTSYSPARAM VTHDOC, VTLPHDOC * typedef DWORD_PTR VTSYSPARAM typedef unsigned long DWORD_PTR typedef unsigned long VTDWORD typedef VTVOID* VTLPVOID #define VTVOID void typedef VTHDOC VTHEXPORT, *VTLPEXPORT These are for 32 bit windows Going through the header files, the example programs, and the documentation I found: 1. That pSpec could be a pointer to a buffer or NULL, so I set it to a IntPtr.Zero (documentation). 2. That dwFlags and dwReserved according to the documentation "Must be set by the developer to 0". 3. That pCallbackFunc can be set to NULL if I don't want to handle callbacks. 4. That the last two are based on structs that I wrote C# wrappers for using the [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)]. Then instatiated an instance and generated the parameters by first creating a IntPtr with Marshal.AllocHGlobal(Marshal.SizeOf(instance)), then getting the address value which is passed as a uint for dwCallbackData and a IntPtr for phExport. The final parameter list is as follows: 1. phDoc as a IntPtr which was loaded with an address by the DAOpenDocument function called before. 2. dwOutputId as uint set to 1535 which represents FI_JPEGFIF 3. dwSpecType as int set to 2 which represents IOTYPE_ANSIPATH 4. pSpec as an IntPtr.Zero where the output will be written 5. dwFlags as uint set to 0 as directed 6. dwReserved as uint set to 0 as directed 7. pCallbackFunc as IntPtr set to NULL as I will handle results 8. dwCallBackDate as uint the address of a buffer for a struct 9. phExport as IntPtr to another struct buffer still get an undefined error from the API. Meaning that the call returns a 961 which is not defined in any of the header files. In the past I have gotten this when my choice of parameter types are incorrect. I started out using Interop Assistant which was helpful in learning how many of the parameter types get translated. It is however limited by how well I am able to glean the correct native type from the header files. For example the hDoc parameter used in the preceding function was defined as a non-filesytem handle, so attempted to use Marshal to create a handle, then used an IntPtr, and finally it turned out to be an int (actually it was &phDoc used here). So is there a more scientific way of doing this, other than trial and error? Jim

  My report has a parameter which uses a base enum. The enum has 4 different options to choose when running the report. How do I insert an option which uses all 4 at once? • Mac OS X Snow Leopard: permissions changed on /var results in dns lookup issues

  I was attempting to solve an issue ("/var/log/msmtp.log: permissions denied" error when attempting to send mail using msmtp) when I did this: > chmod -R 770 /var After that, my machine would not resolve domain names via cURL. (ping also fails) But, oddly, I can enter domain names into Safari and visit any web pages w/o a problem... I'm actually not sure if the chmod command is the cause of the problem, but I suspect it is. Also, if I ls -l on /var (or /private/var) it doesn't seem that any of the subdirectories or files there actually changed permission, but there are many, so I can't say that conclusively... Incidentally, I fixed the original error (msmtp.log permission denied) by setting TMPDIR=/tmp in my local environment (bash). Now the error goes away, but I get this error: msmtp: cannot locate host domainname.org: nodename nor servname provided, or not known Any ideas about how to go about getting DNS working again?

• IIS6 Permissions

  We have a set of IIS6 Jakarta/ASP.NET applications (implemented as virtual directories) on a machine without a domain. The directories all exist under the default website. We need to setup the permissions so that certain users can access only specific applications yet others users can access several of the applications. The way it's been setup previously has been to explicitly deny access to the users for every application except the ones that they are allowed to see. The problem is that the list of applications changes fairly often (for demos etc) and it's been known for the developers to forget to deny the old users access to the new applications which leads to security problems. This is all quite unmaintainable. Does anybody have any advice on this? Surely I can't be the only person to find this all a bit of a mess? Thanks

  In sublime text, we can press ??P to bring up the command palette. Are there any similar tools for vim? I’ve been trying vim-ctrlp-cmdpalette, and although it works relatively well (there are some small issues), it depends on ctrlp (not a huge problem), and it looks like it won’t see much development (it has 14 commits over the course of 3 days, 5 months ago, for an “Initial experimental version”), so I was wondering if there are any known alternatives, since searching for “vim command palette” is a bit limiting; maybe there are some other terms more appropriate for this.

• Redhat doesn't set my desired hostname on reboot

  I have a redhat (EL5) server that I need to change the hostname on. I'm trying to put it back into a known state to help with server provisioning activities. As part of changing the hostname, I'm updating /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/hosts. I also have an explicit call to hostname. My desired state is that the server thinks its hostname is "localhost". And a call to "hostname" returns "localhost". The problem I'm having is that when I reboot, the hostname is reverted to "localhost.companyname.com" which is not what I want. How do I ensure that the hostname is set up as just "localhost" when I reboot? My /etc/sysconfig/network file contains: NETWORKING=yes HOSTNAME=localhost GATEWAY=123.123.123.123 #I do have a proper IP address here My /etc/hosts file contains: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost 172.21.1.1 localhost.companyname.com localhost

• ssh login successful, but scp password gives me "Permission denied"

  I'm trying to get some blogging software up on an organizational remote server. I tried to set up a SSH Key but was having problems and decided that getting the blog up and running was more important than dealing with the SSH Key issue, so I ssh-keygen -R remoteserver.com. Now I can successfully login with ssh -v [email protected] and the correct password. Once logged in I can move around and read any file and directory that I should be able to read. But when I try to edit an existing -rw-r--r-- file with VIM, it shows up as read-only, if I try to edit permissions I get chmod: file.ext: Operation not permitted, and if I try to scp a new file from my local machine I'm prompted for the remote user's password, and then get scp: /home/path/to/file.ext: Permission denied. Since I didn't have any of these problems before I tried to set up the ssh key, I suspect these anomalies are a side effect of that, but I don't know how to troubleshoot this. So what does a foolish server-newb, such as myself, need to do to get edit capability back as a remote user? Addendum 1: My userids are different between my local machine and the remote server. For ssh I ssh -v [email protected]. if I whoami I get remoteuser For scp I scp file.ext [email protected]:/path/to/file.ext from the local directory with file.ext while logged in as the local user. if I whoami I get localuser The ls -l for two different files I've tried scp: -rw-r--r--@ 1 localuser localgroup 20 Feb 11 21:03 phpinfo.php -rw-r--r-- 1 root localgroup 4 Feb 11 22:32 test.txt The ls -l for the file I've tried to VIM: -rw-r--r-- 1 remoteuser remotegroup 76 Jul 27 2009 info.txt Addendum 2: In the past I've set up ssh-keys for git repositories.   Hi Using Castle DynamicProxy v2, I'd like to change the target of an invocation for a class proxy. The new target is simply a different instance of the same type as the original target. The target types do not implement a common interface so I cannot use the IProxyTargetAccessor as detailed in Krzysztof's post on the subject - I cannot cast from a class proxy invocator to a IProxyTargetAccessor. Is there a way to do this?
