• Git Subtree. Why can't I branch from a subtree rather than the root?

  I am struggling trying to make sense of using the Git subtree strategy. My intent was to pull some disparate repos together into a little family of toy repos under an umbrella repo. I'm using the subtree strategy detailed here: http://help.github.com/subtree-merge I am pulling my hair out trying to convince Git that I want to create a branch from one of these subtrees NOT from the root. When I cd into a subtree, create the branch, and then cd back to the root, running git branch from the root clearly indicates the branch was created at the root. Sigh. I love git/github but it is maddening getting this seemingly routine task to work properly. Could someone please enlighten me?

• Rails message: ActionView::MissingTemplate

  I am getting an error that I cannot figure out: ActionView::MissingTemplate (Missing template cluster/delete_stuff.erb in view path app/views) <...snip trace...> Rendering rescues/layout (internal_server_error) I am "enhancing" others code and am following the convention they set up, where they have have code like: <%= render :partial => "other_stuff" %> And a file named _other_stuff.html.erb and it all works, but when I copy these little snippets, I get the above error. Any ideas? Something is going on here that I need to figure out.

• Out of Memory - web applications

  Hi all, I am trying to figure out why Jetty 6.1.22 is running out of memory on my laptop. I have 2 web applications running JBoss Seam, Hibernate (with EHCache), and separate Quartz scheduler instances. With little load, the server dies throwing OutOfMemory. What can I look for? Would you think that I am not properly closing handles for input streams or files? I tried profiling my application with Netbeans, but it works off and on. Usually, it ends up locking up even though it doesn't use that much CPU or memory. Walter

• mySQL date range problem

  Hey all i am in need of a little help with figuring out how to get a range of days for my select query. Here is the code i am trying out: select id, idNumber, theDateStart, theDateEnd from clients WHERE idNumber = '010203' AND theDateStart >= '2010-04-09' AND theDateEnd <= '2010-04-09'; This is what the data in the table looks like: TheDateStart = 2010-04-09 TheDateEnd = 2010-04-11 When testing that code above, it does not populate anything. If i take out the TheEndDate, it populates but with some other tables data as well which it should not do (it should only get one record). I know the problem is within the two date's. I'm not sure how to go about getting a date range for theDateStart and theDateEnd since if someone tries it, say, on 2010-04-10, it still needs to know its within rage of the 2010-04-09 - 2010-04-11. But right now, it does not... Any help would be great! :o) David

• JQUERY CYCLE - Can I add page links to anchors assigned to Cycle's pager?

  Hello everyone. Seems I've outdone myself. All the while I was creating this pretty little 'latest news' widget that fades on mouseover of each anchor. Then my colleague says, "Hey, Chris, these links don't work" ...oops. I would like to find out if I can have these anchors take the user to the relvent page on click. Currently Cycle is set to do its hocus pocus on mouseover. • ASP.NET MVC ViewModelBuilder Suggestions

  For anything but trival view models, I use a view model builder that handles the responsibility of generating the view model object. Right now, I use constructor injection of the builders into my controllers but this smells a little since the builder is really dependent upon which action method is being executed. I have two ideas in mind. The first one would involve a custom ActioFilter allowing me to decorate each action method with the appropriate builder to use. The second would be to add an override of the View method that is open to accepting a generic. This is what my code currently looks like. Note, the builder get injected via the ctor. [HttpGet, ImportModelStateFromTempData, Compress] public ActionResult MyAccount() { return View(accountBuilder.Build()); } Here is what option one would look like: [HttpGet, ImportModelStateFromTempData, Compress, ViewModelBuilder(typeof(IMyAccountViewModelBuilder)] public ActionResult MyAccount() { return View(accountBuilder.Build()); } Or option two: [HttpGet, ImportModelStateFromTempData, Compress] public ActionResult MyAccount() { return View<IMyAccountViewModelBuilder>(); } Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!

• In ExtJS, how do I place two fieldsets side-by-side in a panel with a hbox layout?

  In ExtJS, I'm having a little trouble placing two fieldsets side-by-side in a panel with a hbox layout. The hbox layout seems to be unaware of the fieldset's height, and cuts it off, even if I explicitly set the panel's height to something large. Here's what it looks like: The blue border is the hbox panel, and there's 2 fieldsets inside, 'Client Info' and 'Owner Info'. The code is like so (simplified and runnable in Firebug): var clientInfo = { xtype: 'fieldset', defaultType: 'textfield', title: 'Client Info', items: [ { fieldLabel: 'First Name' }, { fieldLabel: 'Last Name' }, { fieldLabel: 'Cell Phone #' }, { fieldLabel: 'Work Phone #' } ] }; var ownerInfo = { xtype: 'fieldset', defaultType: 'textfield', title: 'Owner Info', items: [ { fieldLabel: 'First Name' }, { fieldLabel: 'Last Name' }, { fieldLabel: 'Cell Phone #' }, { fieldLabel: 'Work Phone #' } ] }; new Ext.Panel({ layout: 'hbox', frame: true, height: 400, width: 800, defaults: { flex: 1 }, items: [ clientInfo, ownerInfo ] }).render(document.body); P.S. • Red-Black trees - Erasing a node with two non-leaf children

  Hi all, I've been implementing my own version of a red-black tree, mostly basing my algorithms from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-black_tree). Its fairly concise for the most part, but there's one part that I would like clarification on. When erasing a node from the tree that has 2 non-leaf (non-NULL) children, it says to move either side's children into the deletable node, and remove that child. I'm a little confused as to which side to remove from, based on that. Do I pick the side randomly, do I alternate betweek sides, or do I stick to the same side for every future deletion?

• QTableWidget signal cellChanged(): distinguish between user input and chage by routines

  i am using PyQt but my question is a general Qt one: I have a QTableWidget that is set up by the function updateTable. It writes the data from DATASET to the table when it is called. Unfortunately this causes my QTableWidget to emit the signal cellChanged() for every cell. The signal cellChanged() is connected to a function on_tableWidget_cellChanged that reads the contents of the changed cell and writes it back to DATASET. This is necessary to allow the user to change the data manually. So everytime the table is updated, its contents are written back to DATASET. Is there a way to distinguish if the cell was changed by the user or by updateTable? i thought of disconnecting on_tableWidget_cellChanged by updateTable temporarily but that seems to be a little dirty.

• JavaScript: Reference a functions local scope as an object

  When I call a function, a local scope is erected for that call. Is there any way to directly reference that scope as an object? Just like window is a reference for the global scope object. Example: function test(foo){ var bar=1 //Now, can I access the object containing foo, bar, arguments and anything //else within the local scope like this: magicIdentifier.bar } Alternately, does anyone have a complete list of what is in the global scope on top of custom variables? Background: I'm trying to get down to a way of completely shifting to global scope from within a function call, the with statement is a joke, call works a little better, but it still breaks for anything declared in function scope but not in global scope, therefore I would declare these few cases in global scope, but that requires me to know what they are. The IE function execScript makes a complete shift, but that only solves the problem for IE. Note: To anyone loading JavaScript dynamically, setTimeout(code,1) is a simple effective hack to achieve global scope, but it will not execute immediately.

• Using Kate with Simple Build Tool (SBT)

  Hello I am working with the Kate editor based on the lack of other good tools for Scala development, I am also using IntelliJ however it still has some bugs, and are slow enough to make me impatient. I have just startet using both Kate and SBT, and in that regard I have a little challenge I hope there is an answer for out there on "The Internet". I am using the standard "Build plugin" in Kate and has changed the commands from make to sbt. This works fine, and I am also getting a error report when the sbt fails during compile time. However I really wish to know if it is possible to integrate the compile errors into Kate such that it would be shown under "Errors and Warnings" instead of just in the output tab, where I have to do a manual search for the compile errors. Im guessing that it has something to do with the format of the output, if that is the case maybe it is "just" a smaller adjustment I need to make to the parsing language.

  I've messed with Access a little bit in the past, had one class on OO theory, and one class on console c++ apps. Now, as a hobby project, I'm undertaking to write an actual app, which will be a database app using System.Data.SQLite and C#. I have the db's table structure planned. I have System.Data.SQLite installed and connected to VS Pro. I entered my tables and columns in VS, but that's where I'm stuck. I really don't know how to finish the db set up so I can start creating queries and testing the db structure. Can someone give me guidance to online resources that will help me learn how to get the db properly set up so I can proceed with testing it? I'm hoping for online resources specific to beginners using C# and System.Data.SQLite, but I'll use the closest I can get. Thanks.

  I'm trying to create a workbook with python and I need to test the values of different cells to fill it but I'm having some troubles. I use xlrd and xlwt to create and edit the excel file. • Why does my DHTML menu have huge layout issues in IE7?

  This one's got me stumped. Usually with a little CSS juggling here and there I am able to solve most IE7 CSS bugs, but not this one! Head on over to the example page and view it in IE7, you will soon see that when mousing over the (vertical) drop down menu on the left of the page, it opens the sub menu WAY over to the right. I have pulled every last hair out! If it helps, the menu was made with 'Sothink DHTML Menu 9' As always, all replies are much appreciated.

  This is just a simple question. I'm currently using Mozilla's Rhino to develop a little webapp. As one step, I need to get a webpage and filter all of it's nodes. For doing that, I use E4X. I thought I could do this like that: var pnodes = doc..*(p); But that produces an error. How is it done right? (BTW: this is just a step for increasing performance. The code already does well, it's just a bit slow.)

  Hi, iTunes Visualizer plugin in C#. Easiest way to compute the "energy level" for a particular sample? I looked at this writeup on beat detection over at GameDev and have had some success with it (I'm not doing beat detection per se, but it's relevant). But ultimately I'm looking for a stupid-as-possible, quick-and-dirty approach for demo purposes. As I started I figured out I could really use a couple of Moose roles to decouple code a little bit. I keep hearing about various JavaScript and CSS frameworks. I know very little about these frameworks so maybe this question is overly broad and open ended. What are the strengths, weaknesses, and popularity of the various frameworks? Should I be using YUI, JQuery, neither, or something else?

  Can someone please help me out with a javascript/jquery solution for this arithmetic problem... I need to subtract one number from the other. The problem is that the numbers have dollar signs (because its money). So it seems that jquery is treating them as strings instead of numbers. I have created two variables - toalAssets and totalLiabilites. I would like to subtract the latter from the former and place the result into another variable called netWorth Perhaps i need to use 'parseFloat'? But I'm not sure how - his is all a little over my head!

  I need a regexp to match something like this, 'text' | 'text' | ... | 'text'(~text) = 'text' | 'text' | ... | 'text' I just want to divide it up into two sections, the part on the left of the equals sign and the part on the right. Any of the 'text' entries can have "=" between the ' characters though. I was thinking of trying to match an even number of 's followed by a =, but I'm not sure how to match an even number of something.. Also note I don't know how many entries on either side there could be.   I'm looking for an a command or trick to convert two arrays to a sparse matrix. The two arrays contain x-values and y-values, which gives a coordinate in the cartesian coordinate system. I want to group the coordinates, which if the value is between some value on the x-axes and the y-axes. % MATLAB x_i = find(x > 0.1 & x < 0.9); y_i = find(y > 0.4 & y < 0.8); %Then I want to find indicies which are located in both x_i and y_i Is there an easy way to this little trick?
