  • Advice on a DB that can be uploaded to a website by a smart client for collecting survey feedback

    - by absfabs
Hello, I'm hoping you can help. I'm looking for a zero config multi-user datbase that my winforms application can easily upload to a webserver folder (together with 1 or 2 classic asp pages) and am looking for some suggestions/recommendations. The idea is that the database will be used to collect feedback entered by people filling in the asp pages. The pages will write to the database using javascript. The database will subsequently be downloaded again for processing once the responses are in. In Summary: It will mostly run in MS Windows environments. I have a modest budget for this and do not mind paying for such a database. No runtime licensing costs. Should be xcopy - Once uploaded to a website folder it should be operational. It should not have a dotnet CLR dependency. It should support a resonable level of concurrent access. Average respondent count would be around 20-30 but one never knows. Should be a reasonable size so that uploads/downloads to and from the site will be reasonably fast. Would appreciate your suggestions/comments Many thanks Abz To clarify - this is a desktop commercial application for feedback management in a vertical market. It uses SQL Server as the backing store. The application currently provides feedback management from email and paper feedback. I now want to add web feedback capability. Getting users to to make their SQL servers accessible to a website is not at option at this time as I am want to make getting up and running as painless as possible. I intend to release a web based implementation of the software in the near future but for now am looking at the above as a pragmatic way to provide web based feedback collection.

  • displaying video from webcam in OpenCV

    - by Adi
hi all, I have installed VS2008 and am able to run the demo codes "camshiftdemo and lkdemo " which comes in the opencv library. With this done, now I am trying to run some simple codes from the internet to get acquainted with the OpenCV. I am just trying to display video from webcam and I am getting the following error.. Error I am getting is : Unhandled exception at 0x5e7e3d10 (highgui200.dll) in opencv.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x719b3856. The code I am trying to run is : include include void main(int argc, char argv[]) { int c; IplImage color_img; CvCapture* cv_cap = cvCaptureFromCAM(-1); // -1 = only one cam or doesn't matter cvNamedWindow("Video",1); // create window for(;;) { color_img = cvQueryFrame(cv_cap); // get frame if(color_img != 0) cvShowImage("Video", color_img); // show frame c = cvWaitKey(10); // wait 10 ms or for key stroke if(c == 27) break; // if ESC, break and quit } /* clean up */ cvReleaseCapture( &cv_cap ); cvDestroyWindow("Video"); } Any help in this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks aditya

  • Encryption puzzle / How to create a PassStub for a Remote Assistance ticket

    - by Jon Clegg
I am trying to create a ticket for Remote Assistance. Part of that requires creating a PassStub parameter. As of the documentation: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc240115(PROT.10).aspx PassStub: The encrypted novice computer's password string. When the Remote Assistance Connection String is sent as a file over e-mail, to provide additional security, a password is used.<16 In part 16 they detail how to create as PassStub. In Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, when a password is used, it is encrypted using PROV_RSA_FULL predefined Cryptographic provider with MD5 hashing and CALG_RC4, the RC4 stream encryption algorithm. As PassStub looks like this in the file: PassStub="LK#6Lh*gCmNDpj" If you want to generate one yourself run msra.exe in Vista or run the Remote Assistance tool in WinXP. The documentation says this stub is the result of the function CryptEncrypt with the key derived from the password and encrypted with the session id (Those are also in the ticket file). The problem is that CryptEncrypt produces a binary output way larger then the 15 byte PassStub. Also the PassStub isn't encoding in any way I've seen before. Some interesting things about the PassStub encoding. After doing statistical analysis the 3rd char is always a one of: !#$&()+-=@^. Only symbols seen everywhere are: *_ . Otherwise the valid characters are 0-9 a-z A-Z. There are a total of 75 valid characters and they are always 15 bytes. Running msra.exe with the same password always generates a different PassStub, indicating that it is not a direct hash but includes the rasessionid as they say. Some other ideas I've had is that it is not the direct result of CryptEncrypt, but a result of the rasessionid in the MD5 hash. In MS-RA (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc240013(PROT.10).aspx). The "PassStub Novice" is simply hex encoded, and looks to be the right length. The problem is I have no idea how to go from any hash to way the PassStub looks like.

Hi,Guys I got OutOfMemoryException after the app running for 1 day, the app totally use 1.5G memory , all consumed by managed heap, gen 2 used 200mb , and LOB used 1.3mb, however the weired thing is, 900mb of space are Free. from perf counter I saw there had number of gen 2 gc collection happened, why GC collector cannot collect those 900mb free space in gen2 and LOB? • Debugging PHP Mail() and/or PHPMailer

    - by Agos
    Hi, I'm quite stuck with a problem sending mail from a PHP script. Some data: Shared hosting, no SSH access, only hosting provider panel PHP version 5.2.5 Last year I built a site which had no problems sending mail with the same hosting Let's say the domain is “domain.com” and my private address is “[email protected]” for anonimity's sake in the following code. Here's the code: <?php error_reporting(E_ALL); ini_set("display_errors", 1); $to = "[email protected]"; $subject = "Hi"; $body = "Test 1\nTest 2\nTest 3"; $headers = 'From: [email protected]' . "\r\n" . 'errors-to: [email protected]' . "\r\n" . 'X-Mailer: PHP/' . phpversion(); if (mail($to, $subject, $body, $headers)) { echo("Message successfully sent"); } else { echo("Message sending failed"); } require('class.phpmailer.php'); $message = "Hello world"; $mail = new PHPMailer(); $mail->CharSet = "UTF-8"; $mail->AddAddress("[email protected]", "Agos"); $mail->SetFrom("[email protected]","My Site"); $mail->Subject = "Test Message"; $mail->Body = $message; $mail->Send(); ?> And here is what I get: Message sending failed 'ai' = 'application/postscript', 'eps' = 'application/postscript', 'ps' = 'application/postscript', 'smi' = 'application/smil', 'smil' = 'application/smil', 'mif' = 'application/vnd.mif', 'xls' = 'application/vnd.ms-excel', 'ppt' = 'application/vnd.ms-powerpoint', 'wbxml' = 'application/vnd.wap.wbxml', 'wmlc' = 'application/vnd.wap.wmlc', 'dcr' = 'application/x-director', 'dir' = 'application/x-director', 'dxr' = 'application/x-director', 'dvi' = 'application/x-dvi', 'gtar' = 'application/x-gtar', 'php' = 'application/x-httpd-php', 'php4' = 'application/x-httpd-php', 'php3' = 'application/x-httpd-php', 'phtml' = 'application/x-httpd-php', 'phps' = 'application/x-httpd-php-source', 'js' = 'application/x-javascript', 'swf' = 'application/x-shockwave-flash', 'sit' = 'application/x-stuffit', 'tar' = 'application/x-tar', 'tgz' = 'application/x-tar', 'xhtml' = 'application/xhtml+xml', 'xht' = 'application/xhtml+xml', 'zip' = 'application/zip', 'mid' = 'audio/midi', 'midi' = 'audio/midi', 'mpga' = 'audio/mpeg', 'mp2' = 'audio/mpeg', 'mp3' = 'audio/mpeg', 'aif' = 'audio/x-aiff', 'aiff' = 'audio/x-aiff', 'aifc' = 'audio/x-aiff', 'ram' = 'audio/x-pn-realaudio', 'rm' = 'audio/x-pn-realaudio', 'rpm' = 'audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin', 'ra' = 'audio/x-realaudio', 'rv' = 'video/vnd.rn-realvideo', 'wav' = 'audio/x-wav', 'bmp' = 'image/bmp', 'gif' = 'image/gif', 'jpeg' = 'image/jpeg', 'jpg' = 'image/jpeg', 'jpe' = 'image/jpeg', 'png' = 'image/png', 'tiff' = 'image/tiff', 'tif' = 'image/tiff', 'css' = 'text/css', 'html' = 'text/html', 'htm' = 'text/html', 'shtml' = 'text/html', 'txt' = 'text/plain', 'text' = 'text/plain', 'log' = 'text/plain', 'rtx' = 'text/richtext', 'rtf' = 'text/rtf', 'xml' = 'text/xml', 'xsl' = 'text/xml', 'mpeg' = 'video/mpeg', 'mpg' = 'video/mpeg', 'mpe' = 'video/mpeg', 'qt' = 'video/quicktime', 'mov' = 'video/quicktime', 'avi' = 'video/x-msvideo', 'movie' = 'video/x-sgi-movie', 'doc' = 'application/msword', 'word' = 'application/msword', 'xl' = 'application/excel', 'eml' = 'message/rfc822' ); return (!isset($mimes[strtolower($ext)])) ?   • Viewing namespaced global variables in Visual Studio debugger?

    - by Chris
When debugging a non-managed C++ project in Visual Studio 2008, I occasionally want to see the value of a global variable. We don't have a lot of these but those that are there all declared within a namespace called 'global'. e.g. namespace global { int foo; bool bar; ... } The problem is that when the code is stopped at a breakpoint, the default debugging tooltip (from pointing at the variable name) and quickwatch (shift-f9 on the variable name) don't take the namespace into consideration and hence won't work. So for example I can point at 'foo' and nothing comes up. If I shift-f9 on foo, it will bring up the quickwatch, which then says 'CXX0017: Error: symbol "foo" not found'. I can get around that by manually editing the variable name in the quickwatch window to prefix it with "global::" (which is cumbersome considering you have to do it each time you want to quickwatch), but there is no fix for the tooltip that I can work out. Setting the 'default namespace' of the project properties doesn't help. How can I tell the VS debugger to use the namespace that it already knows the variable is declared in (since it has the declaration right there), or, alternatively, tell it a default namespace to look for variables in if it doesn't find them? My google-fu has failed to find an answer. This report lists the same problem, with MS saying it's "by design", but even so I am hoping there is some way to work around it (perhaps with clever use of autoexp.dat?)

  • .Net xsd.exe tool doesn't generate all types

    - by Mrchief
For some reason, MS .Net (v3.5) tool - xsd.exe doesn't generate types when they are not used inside any element. e.g. XSD File (I threw in the complex element to avoid this warning - "Warning: cannot generate classes because no top-level elements with complex type were found."): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <xs:schema targetNamespace="http://tempuri.org/XMLSchema.xsd" elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns="http://tempuri.org/XMLSchema.xsd" xmlns:mstns="http://tempuri.org/XMLSchema.xsd" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" > <xs:simpleType name="EnumTest"> <xs:restriction base="xs:string"> <xs:enumeration value="item1" /> <xs:enumeration value="item2" /> <xs:enumeration value="item3" /> </xs:restriction> </xs:simpleType> <xs:complexType name="myComplexType"> <xs:attribute name="Name" use="required" type="xs:string"/> </xs:complexType> <xs:element name="myElem" type="myComplexType"></xs:element> </xs:schema> When i run this thru xsd.exe using xsd /c xsdfile.xsd I don't see EnumTest in the generated cs file. Note; Even though I don't use the enum here, but in my actual project, I have cases like this where we send enum's string value as output. How can I force the xsd tool to include these? Or should I switch to some other tool? I work in Visual Studio 2008.

  • How can I create a finger scrollable Textbox in WM 6.5?

    - by Papajohn
Hi everybody. I just noticed something weird in WM 6.5 emulators. Unlike 6.1 where finger panning kind of worked, the only way to scroll a Textbox appears to be through scrollbars. This behaviour is in contrast to what they have done for comboboxes: they are now gesture-friendly without the programmer's intervention. I.e. the user can select a choice from a standard drop down menu by panning and scrolling. Previously, you had to use the embedded scrollbar. The combobox's case implies that MS took some measures to provide standard gesture support for classic finger gestures, yet I cannot see something similar for textboxes. This makes me ask the following: Is there anything that can be done to make textboxes finger scrollabe easily? Note that I refer to managed .NET CF development. It is my understanding that in native development I could use the new Gestures API to achieve the scrolling effect. Yet, I am not sure if there is an easier and more straightforward method that I have missed.

  • Optimizing quality for available bandwidth in Flash/RTMFP

    - by Artem M.
I'm developing a simple one-on-one P2P video chat using ActionScript, and I'd like to ensure the best video quality for the peers given their bandwidth. This means: Setting the best quality given the available bandwidth when the chat starts Responding to network congestions during chat by decreasing the quality. The task is similar to dynamic stream switching, but P2P has its specifics that make dynamic streaming approaches not work. For example, the maxBytesPerSecond metric monitored in dynamic stream switching is pretty useless in P2P where the receiving NetStream's buffer size is set to 0 to minimize latency. So far, it looks like the most reliable QoS metric for P2P is SRTT. In my simulated tests on a local network, a bandwidth congestion makes it shot up to 500 ms and more when there's a bandwidth limit introduced. However, it gives no hint as to how best adjust the value for bandwidth in Camera.setQuality(0, bandwidth) to respond to the congestion. I've done lots of experiments, and I still don't see a clear and simple solution to the problem. I'm also wondering how this issue is addressed (if at all) in other RTMFP chat solutions.

  • oData/ADO.NET Data Services using LINQ-to-SQL with a decryption layer

    - by Program.X
I have written an application using LINQ-to-SQL that submits a web form into a database. I absact the LINQ-to-SQL away using a Repository pattern. This repository has the basic methods: Get(), Save(), etc. As a development of the project, I needed to encrypt certain fields in the form. This was trivial, as I just added the encryption calls to the Get(), Save() methods in the Repository. Now, I want to put an oData layer over it, to allow RESTful extraction from MS Excel 2010 (when it comes out). I have this working, after a few stumbles on useless error messages, etc. However, obviously, those encrypted fields are still encrypted. My repository pattern would have decrypted these for me. As far as I know, I have to directly bind my oData service to the LINQ-to-SQL context for the schema, etc. to work - unless I enter a whole world of pain (any URLs appreciated). Is there a way I can insert my encryption/decryption layer into the request so decryption is done "on the fly"? I looked at the OnStartProcessingRequest() overload of DataService but this doesn't seem that useful.

FileStream fs = null; try { HttpWebRequest req = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("http://mywmsserver/test"); CookieContainer ci = new CookieContainer(1000); req.Timeout = 60000; req.Method = "Get"; req.KeepAlive = true; req.MaximumAutomaticRedirections = 99; req.UseDefaultCredentials = true; req.UserAgent = "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3"; req.ReadWriteTimeout = 90000000; req.CookieContainer = ci; //req.MediaType = "video/x-ms-asf"; req.AllowWriteStreamBuffering = true; HttpWebResponse resp = (HttpWebResponse)req.GetResponse(); Stream resps = resp.GetResponseStream(); fs = new FileStream("d:\\dump.wmv", FileMode.Create, FileAccess.ReadWrite); byte[] buffer = new byte[1024]; int bytesRead = 0; while ((bytesRead = resps.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length)) > 0) { fs.Write(buffer, 0, bytesRead); } } catch (Exception ex) { } finally { if (fs != null) fs.Close(); }

  • Can any linux API or tool watch for any change in any folder below e.g. /SharedRoot or do I have to

    - by Simon B.
I have a folder with ~10 000 subfolders. Can any linux API or tool watch for any change in any folder below e.g. /SharedRoot or do I have to setup inotify for each folder? (i.e. I loose if I want to do this for 10k+ folders). I guess yes, since I've already seen examples of this inefficient method, for instance http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/browser/trunk/twisted/internet/inotify.py?rev=28866#L345 My problem: I need to keep folders time-sorted with most recently active "project" up top. When a file changes, each folder above that file should update its last-modified timestamp to match the file. Delays are ok. Opening a file (typically MS Excel) and closing again, its file date can jump up and then down again. For this reason I need to wait until after a file is closed, then queue the folder of that file for checking, and only a while later do I go and look for the newest file in its folder, since the filedate of the triggering file could already be back-dated to its original timestamp by Excel or similar programs. Also in case several files from same folder are used/created, it makes sense to buffer timestamping of that folders' parents to at least get a bunch of updates collapsed into one delayed update. I'm looking for a linux solution. I have some code that can be run on a windows server, most of the queing functionality is here: http://github.com/sesam/FolderdateFollowsFiles/blob/master/FolderdateFollowsFiles/Follower.vb Available API:s The relative of inotify on windows, ReadDirectoryChangesW, can watch a folder and its whole subtree; see bWatchSubtree on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa365465(VS.85).aspx Samba? Patching samba source is a possibility, but perhaps there are already hooks available? Other possibilities, like client side (various windows versions) and spying on file activities in order to update folders recursively?

  • Partial Classes - are they bad design?

    - by dferraro
Hello, I'm wondering why the 'partial class' concept even exists in .NET. I'm working on an application and we are reading a (actually very good) book relavant to the development platform we are implementing at work. In the book he provides a large code base /wrapper around the platform API and explains how he developed it as he teaches different topics about the platform development. Anyway, long story short - he uses partial classes, all over the place, as a way to fake multiple inheritence in C# (IMO). Why he didnt just split the classes up into multiple ones and use composition is beyond me. He will have 3 'partial class' files to make up his base class, each w/ 3-500 lines of code... And does this several times in his API. Do you find this justifiable? If it were me, I'd have followed the S.R.P. and created multiple classes to handle different required behaviors, then create a base class that has instances of these classes as members (e.g. composition). Why did MS even put partial class into the framework?? They removed the ability to expand/collapse all code at each scope level in C# (this was allowed in C++) because it was obviously just allowing bad habits - partial class is IMO the same thing. I guess my quetion is: Can you explain to me when there would be a legitimate reason to ever use a partial class? I do not mean this to be a rant / war thread. I'm honeslty looking to learn something here. Thanks

  • SSIS - Bulk Update at Database Field Level

    - by Adam
Hello, Here's our mission: Receive files from clients. Each file contains anywhere from 1 to 1,000,000 records. Records are loaded to a staging area and business-rule validation is applied. Valid records are then pumped into an OLTP database in a batch fashion, with the following rules: If record does not exist (we have a key, so this isn't an issue), create it. If record exists, optionally update each database field. The decision is made based on one of 3 factors...I don't believe it's important what those factors are. Our main problem is finding an efficient method of optionally updating the data at a field level. This is applicable across ~12 different database tables, with anywhere from 10 to 150 fields in each table (original DB design leaves much to be desired, but it is what it is). Our first attempt has been to introduce a table that mirrors the staging environment (1 field in staging for each system field) and contains a masking flag. The value of the masking flag represents the 3 factors. We've then put an UPDATE similar to... UPDATE OLTPTable1 SET Field1 = CASE WHEN Mask.Field1 = 0 THEN Staging.Field1 WHEN Mask.Field1 = 1 THEN COALESCE( Staging.Field1 , OLTPTable1.Field1 ) WHEN Mask.Field1 = 2 THEN COALESCE( OLTPTable1.Field1 , Staging.Field1 ) ... As you can imagine, the performance is rather horrendous. Has anyone tackled a similar requirement? We're a MS shop using a Windows Service to launch SSIS packages that handle the data processing. Unfortunately, we're pretty much novices at this stuff.

  • How to deal with "partial" dates (2010-00-00) from MySQL in Django?

    - by Etienne
In one of my Django projects that use MySQL as the database, I need to have a date fields that accept also "partial" dates like only year (YYYY) and year and month (YYYY-MM) plus normal date (YYYY-MM-DD). The date field in MySQL can deal with that by accepting 00 for the month and the day. So 2010-00-00 is valid in MySQL and it represent 2010. Same thing for 2010-05-00 that represent May 2010. So I started to create a PartialDateField to support this feature. But I hit a wall because, by default, and Django use the default, MySQLdb, the python driver to MySQL, return a datetime.date object for a date field AND datetime.date() support only real date. So it's possible to modify the converter for the date field used by MySQLdb and return only a string in this format 'YYYY-MM-DD'. Unfortunately the converter use by MySQLdb is set at the connection level so it's use for all MySQL date fields. But Django DateField rely on the fact that the database return a datetime.date object, so if I change the converter to return a string, Django is not happy at all. Someone have an idea or advice to solve this problem? How to create a PartialDateField in Django ? EDIT Also I should add that I already thought of 2 solutions, create 3 integer fields for year, month and day (as mention by Alison R.) or use a varchar field to keep date as string in this format YYYY-MM-DD. But in both solutions, if I'm not wrong, I will loose the special properties of a date field like doing query of this kind on them: Get all entries after this date. I can probably re-implement this functionality on the client side but that will not be a valid solution in my case because the database can be query from other systems (mysql client, MS Access, etc.)

  • ios 4.1 doesn't call Phonegap API

    - by Johannes Klauß
I'm working on a cross platform app for Android 2.2 and iOS 4.1 (dev devices). On Android everything works fine (accelerometer and geolocation) even if it's a little laggy. On iOS it's way more smooth, but he doesn't call the Phonegap functions. That's my JS code: var watchID = null; var shaking = { left: false, right: true }; function startWatch() { // Update acceleration every 100 ms var options = { frequency : 100 }; watchID = navigator.accelerometer.watchAcceleration(function(acceleration) { if(acceleration.x < -8) { shaking.left = true; } else if(acceleration.x > 8) { shaking.right = true; } if(shaking.left && shaking.right) { navigator.notification.vibrate(500); shaking.left = false; shaking.right = false; stopWatch(); } }, null, options); } I just call it with <a href="" onclick="startWatch();">start Accel</a> But iOS doesn't react at all. Is there any special call you need to do in iOS?

  • Why should I use Entity Framework over Linq2SQL ...

    - by Refracted Paladin
To be clear, I am not asking for a side by side comparision which has already been asked Ad Nauseum here on SO. I am also Not asking if Linq2Sql is dead as I don't care. What I am asking is this.... I am building internal apps only for a non-profit organization. I am the only developer on staff. We ALWAYS use SQL Server as our Database backend. I design and build the Databases as well. I have used L2S successfully a couple of times already. Taking all this into consideration can someone offer me a compelling reason to use EF instead of L2S? I was at Code Camp this weekend and after an hour long demonstration on EF, all of which I could have done in L2S, I asked this same question. The speakers answer was, "L2S is dead..." Very well then! NOT! (see here) I understand EF is what MS WANTS us to use in the future(see here) and that it offers many more customization options. What I can't figure out is if any of that should, or does, matter for me in this environment. One particular issue we have here is that I inherited the Core App which was built on 4 different SQL Data bases. L2S has great difficulty with this but when I asked the aforementioned speaker if EF would help me in this regard he said "No!"

  • How to estimate tomcat server requirements?

    - by Daniil
We have a brand new webapp written that runs on Tomcat. So far, only one client is using it through the day. They run about 180 unique logins a day. Not really a lot IMO. Now, we managed to sell it to a brand new client who likes and wants to roll it out to 50,000 clients. How many of them will login at the same time - no idea. But I need to do the whole thing - allocate, create, config and maintain. OK - last is simple(errrr). The application runs off of Tomcat 5.5 on Gentoo (I'm thinking to upgrade to Tomcat 6) with MSSQL & mySQL behind. I do realize that a more enterprise ready application would be a better fit, but that's not an option at the moment. Since I've never done this before, I'm a bit lost. Can someone advice on how to go about estimating the equipment requirements for this client? Tomcat does have clustering, so that I can do. MS SQL - I'm sure they have something too. I'm thinking to stick it behind LVS (which we do use at the moment for something else too). Any help from people who deal with these details is greatly appreciated!

  • Conventions for the behavior of double or triple "click to select text" features?

    - by John Sullivan
Almost any mature program that involves text implements "double click to select the word" and, in some cases, "triple click to select additional stuff like an entire line" as a feature. I find these features useful but they are often inconsistent between programs. Example - some programs' double clicks do not select the ending space after a word, but most do. Some recognize the - character as the end of a word, others do not. SO likes to select the entire paragraph as I write this post when I triple click it, VS web developer 2005 has no triple click support, and ultra-edit 32 will select one line upon triple clicking. We could come up with innumerable inconsistencies about how double and triple click pattern matching is implemented across programs. I am concerned about how to implement this behavior in my program if nobody else has achieved a convention about how the pattern matching should work. My question is, does a convention (conventions? maybe an MS or Linux convention?) exist that dictates how these features are supposed to behave to the end user? What, if any, are they?

  • Sql Exception: Error converting data type numeric to numeric

    - by Lucifer
Hello We have a very strange issue with a database that has been moved from staging to production. The first time the database was moved it was by detaching, copying and reattaching, the second time we tried restoring from a backup of the staging. Both SQL Servers are the same version of MS SQL 2008, running on 64 bit hardware. The code accessing the database is the same build, built using the .net 2.0 framework. • Serial: write() throttling?

    - by damian
Hi everyone, I'm working on a project sending serial data to control animation of LED lights, which need to stay in sync with a sound engine. There seems to be a large serial write buffer (OSX (POSIX) + FTDI chipset usb serial device), so without manually restricting the transmission rate, the animation system can get several seconds ahead of the serial transmission. Currently I'm manually restricting the serial write speed to the baudrate (8N1 = 10 bytes serial frame per 8 bytes data, 19200 bps serial - 1920 bytes per second max), but I am having a problem with the sound drifting out of sync over time - it starts fine, but after 10 minutes there's a noticeable (100ms+) lag between the sound and the lights. This is the code that's restricting the serial write speed (called once per animation frame, 'elapsed' is the duration of the current frame, 'baudrate' is the bps (19200)): void BufferedSerial::update( float elapsed ) { baud_timer += elapsed; if ( bytes_written > 1024 ) { // maintain baudrate float time_should_have_taken = (float(bytes_written)*10)/float(baudrate); float time_actually_took = baud_timer; // sleep if we have > 20ms lag between serial transmit and our write calls if ( time_should_have_taken-time_actually_took > 0.02f ) { float sleep_time = time_should_have_taken - time_actually_took; int sleep_time_us = sleep_time*1000.0f*1000.0f; //printf("BufferedSerial::update sleeping %i ms\n", sleep_time_us/1000 ); delayUs( sleep_time_us ); // subtract 128 bytes bytes_written -= 128; // subtract the time it should have taken to write 128 bytes baud_timer -= (float(128)*10)/float(baudrate); } } } Clearly there's something wrong, somewhere. A much better approach would be to be able to determine the number of bytes currently in the transmit queue, and try and keep that below a fixed threshold. Any advice appreciated.

  • Can't connect to SQL Server 2005 Express from an ASP.NET C# page

    - by Aviv
Hey guys, I have an MS SQL Server 2005 Express running on a VPS. I'm using pymssql in Python to connect to my server with the following code: conn = pymssql.connect(host='host:port', user='me', password='pwd', database='db') and it works perfectly. When I try to connect to the server from an ASP.NET C# page with the following code: SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection("Data Source=host, port;Network Library=DBMSSOCN; Initial Catalog=db;User ID=me;Password=pwd;"); myConnection.Open(); When I run the ASP.NET page I get the following exception at myConnection.Open();: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.) I tried restarting the SQL Server but I had no luck. Can anyone point me out to what I'm missing here? Thanks!

  • How to output KML by GAE
