• How should I get Xcode to link an iOS project that uses a C++ static library

  Using Xcode, I've written a Cocoa Touch static library, mainly in C++. It exposes a C interface for the benefit of Objective-C client code. I have a client iOS app that uses it, and everything works and runs as expected, except that I found I needed to include a minimal .cpp file in the client project to get the link to succeed. Otherwise I get C++-related unresolved symbols, e.g. operator new(unsigned long). The above hack is easy and effective, and so I guess I'm not breaking any laws, but is there a proper way to eliminate my linker errors?

• swipe to delete uitableview cell; a bit jumpy?

  I have implemented "swipe to delete" on my table cell. It works fine, how ever, the delete button is a little jumpy; as in, i really have to position my finger on top of the button and carefully touch it to delete the record. I am not sure if am making it clear; let me do my best to explain When the delete button appears; the user has trouble clicking on it, it disappears the moment its clicked. THe user has to try a few times to actually delete the cell. Am not sure what the reason is, it just seems like the delete button gets hidden as though the user has clicked on a different part of the cell. Any suggestsions?

• RAID striping on a desktop machine

  I currently have a 120Gib SSD which is pretty fast for things like game loading times and video editing. However, I was wondering about getting another identical drive and hooking it up with a striping RAID array in hardware (I boot multiple operating systems). This would have the dual benefits of providing a larger logical drive, while also providing greater performance. However, I have a few questions: What kind of performance increase can I expect to see with a pair of good quality SSDs? How expensive is a quality desktop RAID controller? Will the controller present the OS with a single logical drive? Does this mean I can still partition it and multi-boot? Basically, can I treat the RAID controller as "a hard drive" at the OS level?

  Hi there, I've created an iPad game using the Universal App Xcode template. Since I'm in late with the iPhone/iPod Touch branch of the app, I've decided to submit the app only for iPad and to update the app to universal in a second time. Question: Do I have to create a new iPad project and copy there all the code and stuff, or can I simply change the deployment target to iPad only and I'm done? I simply want to be accepted and to avoid iPhone users to be allowed to download the game erroneously. Thank you!

• best way to use CoreLocation across multiple views

  I have two views in my app, one is a general view where CoreLocation works away calculating the users location while the user is doing other stuff in the view. The second view is accessed by the user when they touch a button allowing them to locate themselves more accurately using a mapview and MapKit, i would like the mapview in this view to show the location that CoreLocation has already identified in the first view AND to continue displaying this location based on updates from CoreLocation in the other view. Is the best way here to create a singleton that encapsulates the CoreLocation stuff and have this referenced in the view with the map, or to use notifications ? or to use some other better practice for my scenario ? • How to trigger an event ONLY if both dropdowns are selected?

  I have a dropdown select list on my page of class="TypeFilter". I have a jQuery event that fires when a value in that list is selected. $(".TypeFilter").change(function() { // Extract value from TypeFilter and update page accordingly )); I now have to add another list to the page, and I want to implement functionality which will prevent the .change(function() from running unless both are selected. In both lists the first option in the list is some text instructing the user to select one of the items, so I was thinking of just writing some logic to test that both lists have a selected index greater than 0. I think this is a touch unclean though, especially considering that other pages that have a TypeFilter use the same logic. Is there any nifty functionality in jQuery that can do this?

• Are Domain Specific Languages (DSL) bad for the Common Programmer?

  I have lately been delving into F# and the new DSL stuff as in the Microsoft SQL Server Modelling CTP, and have some concerns. Will this new idea that will come about be bad for skilled programmers? Is code going to be dumbed down? I know I sound like a luddite, but this does worry me, after spending years of time practising in my craft, and now might be scuttled by genius from within. I am afraid, very afraid. Will I be now trapped in a job that only programs against a DSL and therefore every job that I work on, I have to learn a whole new DSL based on top of a Framework (.net Java), that I will only be allowed to touch certain parts of. I don't think the world is ready for DSL, but the sales pitch is deafening!

At the moment I make a text file and then make a launcher and point it to the file, but I want to delete the file and make the launcher run the commands directly.   I'm diving into iPhone development and one of the core concepts im trying to get my head around is view controllers. If you look at the GLPaint example on the apple dev site, you'll see a project that has... An app delegate class A uiwindow subclass And a uiview subclass And the uiview subclass implements all the core graphics painting logic and handles the touch events. My questions are, why is there no view controller implemented to handle that view logic? Could you use a view controller to implement that logic or does it have to be implemented in the uiview subclass? And last, when should you use a view controller to implement the view logic code?   Running a project and was getting an error saying "Not enough actual parameters" The error is in "C:\Program Files\PBear\HTMLComponents\package\GDIPL2A.pas". The mistake pointed three times to "inherited Create;" lines 260,270 and 278 .   I am reading a file in linux which is a log file that keeps on updating weather the file has changed and output it to the webpage. i do it using php inotify but my problem is that it is blocking. • Android: Scrollable (bitmap) screen

  I am currently implementing a view in Android that involves using a larger than the screen size bitmap as a background and then having drawables drawn ontop of this. This is so as to simulate a "map" that can be scrolled horizontally aswell as vertically. Which is done by using a canvas and then drawing to this the full "map" bitmap, then putting the other images on top as an overlay and then drawing only the viewable bit of this to screen. Overriding the touch events to redraw the screen on a scroll/fling. I'm sure this probably has a huge ammount of overhead (by creating a canvas of the full image whilst using(drawing) only a fifth of it) and could be done in a different way as to the explained, but I was just wondering what people would do in this situation, and perhaps examples?   Hi, I am developing a music mixing app in iphone. It'll mix the music and user can compose a new music from it. I need to record this final music. I had used AVAudiorecorder to record this one. But no change. It can record sound from microphone but I need to record app sound. I had used audio queue call back function to record the audio. But when app runs I can hear the audio from my app and I couldn't hear any sound from recorded audio. There is no problem with recording since I can hear the audio recorded through microphone. But I need an offline recorder which can record the audio output of iphone, rather than the audio input through microphone. I need a recorder which can record audio using ipod touch (no microphone). Any help?

• Strange SQL problem selecting multiple values for same column

  Hello there, Been at this for a few hours now and I can't make any sense of it. I've used this way of selecting multiple values for same column a few times, but there is something weird with this one. SELECT * FROM employee as s INNER JOIN works AS w1 ON w1.name = s.name INNER JOIN employee AS w2 ON w2.name = s.name INNER JOIN employee AS w3 ON w3.name = s.name WHERE w2.city = 'Washington' Basically what I want to do is find all companies which have people in all the cities. The company name is under 'works'. The problem is however that if I have the WHERE w2.city='Washington' it will make ALL the cities match Washington when it should only touch w2 and leave w3 alone so I could match it with another value. Anyone know why its doing this? Or know a better way to do it. Thank you very much in advance.

• port an iOS (iPhone) app to mac?

  Is there a preferred way to go about this? The app in question is not too large . . . single-player game that I wrote over the course of a couple of months. EDIT: I should add that I have no experience with mac development . . . outside of what comes naturally with being an iOS developer. EDIT: Classes heavily used in the game: subclasses of NSObject, UIView, and UIViewController. I don't know much about NSView, but I'm pretty sure all the UIView stuff will work in that class. Also some use of UITableViewController. I do also have Game Center, but I can leave that part out for now. There is no multi-touch.

• Debian - no sound output

  So I've been trying for the last few days to get sound output on my Linux desktop. The onboard audio is Intel HD Audio ICH9, but I couldn't get Alsa to even detect it, so I disabled it in BIOS and installed a PCI card - a Dynex DX-SC51. Searching around, I found that it needed the Alsa driver for ice1724, so I installed all the stuff for that. Now, the system detects my sound card, but I can't get any audio to play out of it. • OpenGL multitexture tessellation

  I have to tessellate some surface in OpenGL with rectangular textures. Let it be a single triangle for simplicity. The textures touch each other by sides, and do not overlap. That is done by setting GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_S and GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_T to GL_CLAMP_TO_BORDER and adjusting texture coords properly. Everything goes fine while GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER and GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER is set to GL_NEAREST, but when I want to apply GL_LINEAR filering and/or anisotropic filtering following arifact apperas: textures border pixel's alpha gradually fall to transparent, so that line of background color is visible between neighbouring textures. How can I avoid this artifact without merging multiple textures to one while linear filtering is preserved?

  T. technician in a high school with around 1600 students 250 staff and 800+ client computers mostly running W7 I'm looking for a better way to manage clients (deploy software, track changes, inventory etc) I like the look of SCCM 2012 features but the case studies seem to be aimed at large multi-site infrastructural rather than a single mid sized site. Is SCCM suitable for a mid sized single site or is it aimed at much larger corporations, if so what would be more suitable Just a note about me and my situation. I work as a technician in a school part of a team of 3. My boss seems content with a network that works (just about) not a productive well maintained network that is easy to run and maintain. I'm still fairly early on in my I.T. career so sorry if I'm not up to speed on all products. • Password Security: Short and Complex versus ‘Short or Lengthy’ and Less Complex

  Creating secure passwords for our online accounts is a necessary evil due to the huge increase in database and account hacking that occurs these days. The problem though is that no two companies have a similar policy for complex and secure password creation, then factor in the continued creation of insecure passwords or multi-site use of the same password and trouble is just waiting to happen. Ars Technica decided to take a look at multiple password types, how users fared with them, and how well those password types held up to cracking attempts in their latest study. The password types that Ars Technica looked at were comprehensive8, basic8, and basic16. The comprehensive type required a variety of upper-case, lower-case, digits, and symbols with no dictionary words allowed. The only restriction on the two basic types was the number of characters used. Which type do you think was easier for users to adopt and did better in the two password cracking tests? Are shorter, more complex passwords better or worse than using short or long, but less complex passwords?
