  • Best way to migrate export/import from SQL Server to oracle

    Hi guys! I'm faced with needing access for reporting to some data that lives in Oracle and other data that lives in a SQL Server 2000 database. For various reasons these live on different sides of a firewall. Now we're looking at doing an export/import from sql server to oracle and I'd like some advice on the best way to go about it... The procedure will need to be fully automated and run nightly, so that excludes using the SQL developer tools. I also can't make a live link between databases from our (oracle) side as the firewall is in the way. The data needs to be transformed in the process from a star schema to a de-normalised table ready for reporting. What I'm thinking about is writing a monster query for SQL Server (which I mostly have already) that will denormalise and read out the data from SQL Server into a flat file using the sql server equivalent of sqlplus as a scheduled task, dump into a Well Known Location, then on the oracle side have a cron job that copies down the file and loads it with sql loader and rebuilds indexes etc. This is all doable, but very manual. Is there one or a combination of FOSS or standard oracle/SQL Server tools that could automate this for me? the Irreducible complexity is the query on one side and building indexes on the other, but I would love to not have to write the CSV dumping detail or the SQL loader script, just say dump this view out to CSV on one side, and on the other truncate and insert into this table from CSV and not worry about mapping column names and all other arcane sqlldr voodoo... best practices? thoughts? comments? edit: I have about 50+ columns all of varying types and lengths in my dataset, which is why I'd prefer to not have to write out how to generate and map each single column...

  • jquery append() method on empty XML element

    This could just be a syntax error, but I'm trying to create a Document object from scratch, starting with document.implementation.createDocument() and then using jquery's append() method to add the elements. But it's not appending: var myDoc = document.implementation.createDocument("", 'stuff', null); $("stuff",myDoc).attr("test","tested"); $("stuff",myDoc).append("<test>A</test>"); $("<test>B</test>").appendTo("stuff",soapEnv); var s = new XMLSerializer(); alert(s.serializeToString(soapEnv)); This should output: <stuff test="tested"> <test>A</test> <test>B</test> </stuff> But instead it outputs: <stuff test="tested" /> So the selector seems to be working, just not the method. My only guess is the method doesn't account for the fact that elements are empty (<stuff />) until they have children. But that's just a guess.

    I'm implementing a distributed application, server with rails and mobile clients in objective c (iPhone). To enable internationalization, I use the rails plugin 'globalize2' by joshmh. However, it turned out that this plugin does not translate attributes when calling to_xml or to_json on an ActiveRecord. Does anyone know of a workaround / patch? Do you have any ideas how to fix this, where to alter globalize2? Using: Rails 2.3.5 globalize2: commit from 2010-01-11

  • scala: Adding attributes (odd and even rows) to xml table

    In a Lift application, I’d like to add a special tag which takes the <tbody> part of the next table and adds odd and even classes (for example) to each <tr> tag. Alternating, of course. While I have found a way to add another attribute to all <tr> tags, there are still a few problems left (see code below). First, it doesn’t work. cycle.next is called too often, so in the end, everything is an odd row. Other problems are that the code doesn’t exclude inner tables (so a nested <tr> would be transformed as well) and that it also affects the <thead> part of the table. Ideas to make this code work? A request to a REST web service developed using Apache CXF and Spring MVC with MySQL as back end serving references(a field in database) to images,audio and video files stored in file system. In the response message, what is the best method to send the content to the client(another application using the service which I developed). URI: http://www.filmservices.com/film/{id} A client here is not the end user. Send the encoded hyperlink's(where the content is stored in the file system) to the client, so that the client renders the response and displays it to the browser. Use Base64 to encode the message(image,audio,video) and send it to the client. Main concern is performance.

    We have several systems with Oracle (A) and SQL Server (B) databases on backend. I have to consolidate data from those systems into the new SQL Server database. If I stop all Oracle services, is it safe to backup by just copying the entire directory (e.g., to C:\oracle_bak), or am I significantly better off using expdp? I am aware that there is a certain enum (OracleDbType) that contains the Oracle data types, but I am not sure which one to use for certain types. Questions: What is the equivalent Oracle PL/SQL data type for each enumerated type in the OracleDbType enumeration? There are three types of integer (Int16, Int32, Int64) in the OracleDbType... how to know which one to use or are they all suppose to work?

    If a node belongs to a namespace, it's children by default belong to the same namespace. So there's no need to provide an xmlns attribute on each child, which is good. However. If I create two nodes like this: Dim parent = <parent xmlns="http://my.namespace.org"/> Dim child = <child xmlns="http://my.namespace.org">value</child> parent.Add(child) Console.WriteLine(parent.ToString) The result is this: <parent xmlns="http://my.namespace.org"> <child xmlns="http://my.namespace.org">value</child> </parent> But, if create them in a less convenient way: Dim parent = <parent xmlns="http://my.namespace.org"/> Dim child As New XElement(XName.Get("child", "http://my.namespace.org")) With {.Value = "value"} parent.Add(child) Console.WriteLine(parent.ToString) The result is more desirable: <parent xmlns="http://my.namespace.org"> <child>value</child> </parent> Obviously, I'd prefer to use the first way because it is so much more intuitive and easy to code. There's also another reason to not use method 2 -- sometimes I need to create nodes with XElement.Parse, parsing a string that contains an xmlns attribute, which produces exactly same results as method 1. So the question is -- how do I get the pretty output of method 2, creating nodes as in method 1? The only option I see is to create a method that would clone given XElement, effectively recreating it according to method 2 pattern, but that seems ugly. I'm looking for a more obvious solution I overlooked for some reason.

    Hi, I'm currently writing some kind of a Maven POM preprocessor that assembles a POM for a project from multiple input files (basically a template and a module specific file). The files are hierarchically ordered (template = most general, module specific = least general). The problem is now to merge these files into a single POM file. Long story short or if you're not familiar with Maven: a POM looks like this (shortened): <project> <modelVersion>4.0.0</modelVersion> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>org.apache.maven</groupId> <artifactId>maven-core</artifactId> </dependency> </dependencies> </project> Basically the merger shall replace all values of the more general file with the values of the more specific file (i.e. singletons, e.g. the <modelVersion> above) but there are certain elements where the merger shall add the more certain element to a parent (i.e. collections, e.g. <dependency> elements shall always be added to the <dependencies> element and no <dependency> element shall be replaced by another). A more detailed example with definition of desired output: File A: <project> <modelVersion>A</modelVersion> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>groupIdA</groupId> <artifactId>artifactIdA</artifactId> </dependency> </dependencies> </project> File B: <project> <modelVersion>B</modelVersion> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>groupIdB</groupId> <artifactId>artifactIdB</artifactId> </dependency> </dependencies> </project> Desired output: <project> <modelVersion>B</modelVersion> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>groupIdA</groupId> <artifactId>artifactIdA</artifactId> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>groupIdB</groupId> <artifactId>artifactIdB</artifactId> </dependency> </dependencies> </project> The set of collection type elements are known and should be configurable (preferably via a set of XPath expressions). A Java based solution is appreciated. What looked most promising so far was the tool mentioned here but the MERGE action produces something like <dependency> <groupId>groupIdAgroupIdB</groupId> <artifactId>artifactIdAartifactIdB</artifactId> </dependency> when merging, which is not what I need. What am I missing? Any help would really be appreciated!
