  I've looked on the internet regarding port forwarding. I've successfully fowarded port 8069 to my server's ip address. I can access openERP when I'm connected to the network of my office but not when I'm outside my office's network. What am I missing? my computer's ip address starts with 192... Do I have to first up the router's ip address and then my server's ip address to get to my server from the outside? what should I type in my internet browser? I've looked all day yesterday.

  On my laptop I have a built in wireless card and I got one external connected via usb. By ifconfig command I saw both the cards connects to internet and gets IP. eth1 - the interface my laptop has in-built wlan1 - I have connected externally via usb. Now I applied "sudo ifconfig eth1 down" so that i can use only wlan1. But this eth1 goes down for sometime and then come up again automatically. So I am not able to test my externally usb connected wifi adapter. Can anyone suggest me way to disable eth1 interface?

  I have an app that's accessible via 1.2.3.4/myapp. The app is installed in /var/www/myapp. I've set up a subdomain(apps.mydomain.com) that points to 1.2.3.4. I want the server to point to var/www/myapp if I type apps.mydomain.com/myapp, how do I do that? I have experience creating virtual hosts(lots of them) locally but I'm lost because it's now in production and it's a little different.   Hi, I have a weird problem I cant solve. I have several computers, two with xubuntu 9.10 One of them, acting as a media server, has stopped to work when it comes to external network.. I can do for example: ping google.com Which gives me an ip adress back, like: name@Media:/etc$ ping google.com PING google.com (66.102.9.147) 56(84) bytes of data. That tells me it reaches the dns?, but I get no response at all... If I ping a local computer all works fine. I can also reach the computer via ssh without any problems. I have always used network manager, but now I uninstalled it and made the settings manually like this: /etc/network/interfaces auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.52 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.1.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 gateway 192.168.1.1 Still no luck. • Ubuntu - Is there a way to associate keyboard shortcuts to bring a window to front?

  I am using exactly 3 programs: - a browser - a terminal - a code editor I keep all in fullscreen windows. What I need is to be able to bring any one of them up with a simple keyboard shortcut, like Ctrl+Alt+B for browser, etc. Alt-Tab sucks because I have to stop and see where the selector is. Using 3 workspaces is better but still not ideal - I need to think about where I am and where I need to go. E.g. My browser is on top of my terminal and my code editor is to the right of the terminal. So to move from browser to terminal I use Ctrl+Alt+Down, but to move from code editor to terminal I have to do Ctrl+Alt+Left. Instead I should just do Ctrl+Alt+T for terminal, for example. Thanks!

  I have searched many forums and tried a lot of suggested solutions but nothing works. I am sure that installation disk is ok cause it worked before (I was able to install Windows7 on my other notebook - MSI). What happens is: I boot with installation CD, it says 'Windows is loading files...' Then it says Starting Windows (mouse laser works at that moment). Then I get the screen with window which has a title "Install Windows" with options to choose language, keyboard, etc. and asking me to click next. But, the problem is that at that moment mouse and keyboard don't work at all. Mouse's laser is turned off, and if I press CAPS LOCK on keyboard it doesn't turn the LED on. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

In order to get my server to launch on system boot, I've added a line to call my startup script to /etc/rc.local However, this doesn't work. I added some checks to make sure the script is being called and it is. It's the call to unicorn_rails which I think is failing. Does anyone have experience with this?

• Automatically kill processes that over time uses 95%+ of resources? Ubuntu

  I don't know about you're computer but when mine is working properly no process is sucking 95%+ over time. I would like to have some failsafe that kills any processes behaving like that. This comes to mind because when I woke up this morning my laptop had been crunching all night long on a stray chromium child process. This can probably be done as a cron job, but before I make it a full time job creating something like this I'd thought I should check here. :) I hate reinventing the wheel.

  Hi i just installed ubuntu 12.10 on my ssd(picture below) and i set up my home directory to the 1 TB disc(picture below). I want in general use the ssd as my root folder as u can see, and install only the apps which are necessary. Games and other stuff goes to the 1 TB disc, but this disc shows me in gparted a usage of 14 GB on a freshly install, whats wrong?   I am trying to get wifi direct working on a laptop with ubuntu 12.04 When I type the command 'iw list' it doesn't show P2P-client or P2P-go under 'supported interface modes.From http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Documentation/iw/replace-iwconfig I found that 'iwconfig' was replaced with 'iw'.Does it mean that my hardware doesn't have support for wifi-direct or is it just the software(drivers) issue? • Graphical Error During Installation of Ubuntu 13.10 32bit

  In trying to install the latest version of Ubuntu, I made a bootable USB and proceeded to give it a shot. As it loaded, the upper half of the screen displayed staticy, multi-colored horizontal lines, but continued to boot into the installer. The installer appeared to be functional using the keyboard, but I was unable to proceed as the graphical display was a mismatched mosaic of the proper screen with no visible cursor. I'll try to edit in a photo later. Attempting the exact same USB on a different device (an old Asus Eee 1005HA) gave no such error and installed without a hitch.

  I updated from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 a couple of days back. My machine is a Dell Inspiron 15R with a Radeon HD 7670M Graphic Driver. When I was using 12.04, I was able to install the propriety driver using the notification you usually get. But after the upgrade, the graphic driver is not getting installed. I am not getting the notification to install the driver And I also tried to follow the steps given - What is the correct way to install ATI Catalyst Video Drivers (fglrx)? I tried the legacy as well as the usual installation procedure Both ways I failed and my graphics went to the fallback, disabling Unity Note: My laptop is getting heated to 80 degrees and can shut down at any point.   I have a lenovo g555 laptop and whenever I try and boot a ubuntu based distro off a usb, it randomly shuts off my PC (Not like a normal shutdown with shutdown loading screen but a like a sudden hard power off). This problem occurs even if I have installed the distro on my harddrive. In the past I've been able to use the distro for 10 min or so before it would it would do this. Now with the latest distros, It randomly pwers off even before it has fully booted up. My hardware specs are on this website.

Error when selecting to boot the Ubuntu mbr Basically no matter what I do, windows boot manager wants to load windows and windows only. I tried running from my hard drive and also from a USB drive that had live installed. Both times I ended up with this message. I am running windows 7 with all the newest updates, on a Samsung series 7 Laptop. I have had many dual boot machines in the past and never seen this issue. I even had a dual booting windows 7 machine a few months ago and had no issues at all. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Justin

  I have weired issue. I did a fresh installation of Ubuntu 12.04. Then I installed Nvidia drives for my graphics card. I executed the command "modprobe nvidia" after installing the Nvidia drivers and rebooted. After reboot, sound indicator in top panel is disabled and I can't control the volume from there. I opened Settings Sound and it does not show any sound card installed. However, I can hear the sound. Please help.
