• Looking for a standard way to manage documents in a WPF application

  Hi! I'm writing a WPF application that uses one document at a time. Is there any standard way to implement the management of the current document? What I mean are the following functions: New document: if there are not saved changes in the current document, a dialog box opens ('Do you want to save changes to {0}?') with Yes/No/Cancel buttons. If Cancel is hit, the operation stops. Open document: same dialog box as at new document, and an Open dialog opens after Save document: if the current document hasn't been saved, a Save dialog opens Save as: you can imagine... So, is there anything standard in the .NET framework like this or do I have to manually implement it?

• Porting Windows C++ to Standard (Linux) C++ - WSAGetLastError()

  I am currently porting some Windows mobile C++ code to standard C++. So I am trying to find alternatives for windows specific functions. I have had very little luck in finding a standard C++ function that can help me replace the WSAGetLastError() windows specific function. WSAGetLastError() returns error numbers for errors that occur with sockets in windows. So I was wondering if anyone was aware of a way to replace this function in standard c++? A way to get different error numbers for different outcomes of connecting/dissconection a socket would be sufficent.

  I've installed JCL into Delphi 2010. In the following code try raise Exception.Create('Error Message'); except on E: Exception do begin ResultStatus := JclLastExceptStackListToStrings(sl, True, True, True, True); end; end; Also I have this call in the initialization section: initialization JclStartExceptionTracking; ResultStatus is false and sl is empty. I have set options to generate map and .jdbg files. Other functions, like ProcByLevel work fine. Is there something else I need to do to make JclLastExceptStackListToStrings work?   I know this. Calling C function from C++: If my application was in C++ and I had to call functions from a library written in C. Then I would have used //main.cpp extern "C" void C_library_function(int x, int y);//prototype C_library_function(2,4);// directly using it. This wouldn't mangle the name C_library_function and linker would find the same name in its input *.lib files and problem is solved. Calling C++ function from C??? But here I'm extending a large application which is written in C and I need to use a library which is written in C++. Name mangling of C++ is causing trouble here. Linker is complaining about the unresolved symbols. Well I cannot use C++ compiler over my C project because thats breaking lot of other stuff. What is the way out? By the way I'm using MSVC

• How can I view the all inherited url-resolution rules affecting a given directory?

  I work on two sites hosted on the same server, using the same CMS configurations and identical .htaccess files in their respective document roots. One site is letting me use the CMS's clean-url mode, and the other isn't. Site #2 functions fine in ?=messy-url mode, but when I turn clean urls on in the admin panel, and request a rewritten URL, I get a 404 error served before the CMS sees the request. I've contacted the server administrator, but he isn't inclined to provide support and the site owners are beholden to this hosting provider. I have shell access to the Linux-based server, and I can verify that mod_php and mod_rewrite are active, but I don't know what more I can do to troubleshoot this issue. Is there any way to identify directives upstream that may be differentiating the way http requests are handled by the two sites? Thanks!

• Issues with Sinatra and Heroku

  So I've created and published a Sinatra app to Heroku without any issues. I've even tested it locally with rackup to make sure it functions fine. There are a series of API calls to various places after a zip code is consumed from the URL, but Heroku just wants to tell me there is an server error. I've added an error page that tries to give me more description, however, it tells me it can't perform a `count' for #, which I assume means hash. Here's the code that I thin it's trying to execute... if weather_doc.root.elements["weather"].children.count > 1 curr_temp = weather_doc.root.elements["weather/current_conditions/temp_f"].attributes["data"] else raise error(404, "Not A Valid Zip Code!") end If anyone wants to bang on it, it can be reached at, http://quiet-journey-14.heroku.com/ , but there's not much to be had.

  I will be writing my first daemon in php and I have a couple really basic questions that I need help with. 1) What packages need to be installed on my linux server and Does anything in PHP need to be enabled? So far I have gotten this - http://pear.php.net/package/System_Daemon/download 2) Where on server do I save my daemon files? 3) I have a number of files that need to be included within the daemon that contain classes and functions for gathering emails and attachments through IMAP. All of these files are currently in my web public directory, how do I include these files within my daemon? I think that is everything I need to get started. Thanks so much!

  Trying to grasp Prototyping in Javascript. Trying to create my own namespace to extend the String object in JavaScript. Here is what I have so far (a snippet): var ns { alert: function() { alert (this); } } String.prototype.$ns = ns; As you can see, I am trying to place what will be a series of functions into the ns namespace. So I can execute a command like this: "hello world".$ns.alert(); But the problem is, the this doesn't seem to reference the text being sent (in this case, "hello world"). What I get is an alert box with the following: [object Object] Not having a full grasp of the object-oriented nature of JavaScript, I am at a loss, but I am guessing I am missing something simple. Does anyone know how to achieve this? Thanks -

• F# - Function with no arguments?

  When thinking in a functional mindset, given that functions are supposed to be pure, one can conclude any function with no arguments is basically just a value. However, reallity gets in the way, and with different inputs, I might not need a certain function, and if that function is computationally expensive, I'd like to not evaluate it if it's not needed. I found a workaround, using let func _ = ... and calling it with func 1 or whatever, but that feels very non-idiomatic and confusing to the reader. This boils down to one question: In F#, Is there a proper way to declare a function with zero arguments, without having it evaluated on declaration?

• How to change the value of progressbar in C#?

  Hi, I want to add an progress bar into my C# based application. I would like to know what is the good way of updating its value at particular events? My problem is, I have single function in UI which does all the processing.This function in turn calls many more functions, creates objects, updates database, etc. (basically performs all the work) and returns values in an output file. I have access to that function only. So in this how to update the progressbar's value at the end of each step? What is the best practice for this kind of situation? • Dynamic access to tables from another database inside an user function

  I have an user defined table function in SQL Server that aggregate data from several tables including a couple of tables of another database. That is done hardcoding the name of the database in the queries, but we want to make the database name configurable (because our databases usually share the server with the databases of other applications). I tried to construct a dynamic query string inside the function using the database name that is stored in a configuration table, but: When I tried exec(@sqlStatement) SQL Server said that execute string is not allowed inside a function. Then I tried exec sp_executesql @sqlStatement and the function was created, but when you execute it SQL Server says that inside a function you can only run extended functions and procedures. So the question is: is possible create a function or stored procedure that access a table in another database without having to recreate the function when the database name is different? TIA.

  Lately I needed to call a listener function without an actual listener like so: foo(null); private function foo(event:Event):void { //do something } So I was wondering if there is a significant difference regarding performance between this and using the following, in which I can prevent the null in calling the function without the listener, but am still able to call it with a listener as well: foo(); private function foo(event:Event = null):void { } I am not sure wether it is just a question of style, or actually bad practice and I should write two similar functions, one with and one without the event param (which seems cumbersome to me).   I have a x51 family micro controller (P89V51RD2). I'm going to send some data from computer using serial port. The data i'll be sending are Character 'S' Character 'R' and a 2 digit integer. Upon receiving the data, I will be calling separate functions. I used if(chr=='S') and elseif(chr=='R')for character data. The main problem lies with identifying the 2 digit number sent. Any other data other than the above three mentioned will be discarded. Any ideas for identifying two digit integer ??

• Should I convert data arrays to objects in PHP in a CouchDB/Ajax app?

  I find myself converting between array and object all the time in PHP application that uses couchDB and Ajax. Of course I am also converting objects to JSON and back (for sometimes couchdb but mostly Ajax), but this is not so much disturbing my workflow. At the present I have php objects that are returned by the CouchDB modules I use and on the other hand I have the old habbit to return arrays like array("error"="not found","data"=$dataObj) from my functions. This leads to a mixed occurence of real php objects and nested arrays and I cast with (object) or (array) if necessary. The worst thing is that I know more or less by heart what a function returns, but not what type (array or object), so I often run into type errors. My plan is now to always cast arrays to objects before returning from a function. Of course this implies a lot of refactoring. Is this the right way to go? What about the conversion overhead? Other ideas or tips?

  I have a script where it accepts a varying number of arguments. I want to use func_get_args to perform operations on said arguments. If I have one function like this: function Something() { foreach(func_get_args($this) as $functions) { // Do something } // Return.. } I want to be able to call this function in, for example, another function to add/save entries. The add/save function would have arguments 'title', 'description' etc.. I basically want to know if there is a way to detect the context of a function call. Can I pass something to func_get_args that will let it know that its called in a certain function? So if I do: function Save($title, $desc) { $vars = $this->Something(); } I want $vars to contain $title and $desc after modifying them.

Now I have another singleton class and it should call first singleton class. After this code I got linkers error about undefined references for functions which are used in first singleton. • How to convert server time to local time?

  My php file is hosted in some other part of the world. The date() and time() functions returns the date/time on the server. How do I convert that date so that it's the same as my local date/time? The date on the server is 10 hours behind my local time. I could just hard code and substract this from the server time. But what is the proper way of going about this so that no value has to be hardcoded?
