• "unresolvable problem" error when upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04

  So I have solved this issue, but now I have another problem: An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. This can be caused by: * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. I am not upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu and I am not running a pre-release either. I have unchecked all my 3rd-party packages using Ubuntu Software Manager, EditSoftware Sources... What else might be wrong? • htaccess IP blocking with custom 403 Error not working

  I'm trying to block everyone but 1 IP address from my site on a server running apache & centos. My setup is follows the example below. My server: `http://www.myserver.com/` My .htaccess file <limit GET> order deny,allow deny from all allow from 176.219.192.141 </limit> ErrorDocument 403 http://www.google.com ErrorDocument 404 http://www.google.com When I visit http://www.myserver.com/ from an invalid IP, it gives me a generic 403 error. When I visit http://www.myserver.com/page-does-not-exist/ it redirects me correctly to http://www.google.com but I can't figure out why the 403 error doesn't redirect me too. Anyone have any ideas?

FYI: on Google official guidelines I did not find info about this. I suppose hotlink protection prevents Google Images to show images in its results because I did some tests and it seems hotlink protection does prevent my images to be shown in Google Images search.

  I have the following environment: In company X I develop a application on a pc A in network A with ip address 192.168.100.50 which has to do an https request to an http server located in the intranet of company Y In company X is another pc B in network B with ip address 192.168.200.100 pc B (of company X) can access the intranet from company Y via ssh tunnel (putty) pc A (of company X) can ping pc B (of company X) note: pc A can also do a remote desktop connection to pc B) pc B can ping the http sever pc A can not ping the http server How can the https request from pc A of company X get to the http server of company Y? On which pc must be putty configured? And which settings for host, port forwarding etc. has to be done in putty? So finally the https request should go from PC A - PC B - Http Server in company Y.

• That Tool is cURLy

  When you just use IE, Firefox or Chrome it can be easy to forget that HTTP is about more then just going to check the latest tech news at Engadget. It is a full and rich protocol, and a great way to experience that richness is the powerful command line utility cURL. cURL has a lot of options, but the syntax starts out simple. You can retrieve the contents of a web page with a simple curl http://blogs.claritycon.com/. The results should be the full text of the web page, tags and all. From there, you can use X to specify the HTTP verb to use, POST, PUT, DELETE, PATCH, etc and d to specify the payload of a POST or PUT. I have found cURL to be incredibly useful for two scenarios. First, as a good way to test basic web services. Second, while working a bit with CouchDB and another document based database, cURL has helped me learn more about RESTful APIs, including different verbs and response codes. cURL is a mainstay in our environments and programming languages precisely because it is simple, powerful and discoverable. I encourage more .NET developers to take a look, bask on the command line for a while and enjoy the plain text of the web.   I tried to install Webmin on Ubuntu by following the instructions on http://www.webmin.com/deb.html. Using the Update Manager GUI I added the repositories and the key deb http://download.webmin.com/download/repository sarge contrib deb http://webmin.mirror.somersettechsolutions.co.uk/repository sarge contrib However when I do an: apt-get update apt-get install webmin I get the error: W: Failed to fetch http://download.webmin.com/download/repository/dists/sarge/Release Unable to find expected entry 'contrib/source/Sources' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file) W: Failed to fetch http://webmin.mirror.somersettechsolutions.co.uk/repository/dists/sarge/Release Unable to find expected entry 'contrib/source/Sources' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file) Looing at the page at the URL I can see: 7029066c27ac6f5ef18d660d5741979a 20 contrib/source/Sources.gz Is the error caused by the fact that the Sources are compressed with gzip or am I doing something wrong?

The current configuration is the following: To access through Internet you use http://webexample.com To access through Local Network you use http://myweb The main problem is that the local users cannot share links with external users. Thats a problem for us. I want to setup the following configuration: All users (local and Internet) access through http://webexample.com The local DNS server resolves http://webexample.com to the local Network IP (i.e 192.168.2.100) Any other suggestion? Which is the best way to override http://webexample.com resolution in Windows Server? It can be done on DNS server or it have to be done in hosts file?

After some days, Google Webmaster Tools started to give me several "Redirect error" on some pages like the follows: http://www.tkdmontecatini.com/it/photogallery http://www.tkdmontecatini.com/it/pagina/9/Informazioni/Corsi/Chi-Siamo http://www.tkdmontecatini.com/it/pagina/2/Informazioni/Eventi/Eventi The funny things are: If I access those links from a browser, it's all right and I've not redirect loops or other similar issues If I use the "Fetch as Googlebot" function, I get a great "Success" result Question: Any idea of why this happens and how can I fix it?

• lighttpd silently stops logging

  I'm on a Slicehost 256MB VPS with Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty). lighttpd is the only web server process running; it listens on port 80. My lighttpd.conf can be found here. I'm using Ubuntu's default logrotate setup for lighty. At seemingly random times, lighttpd will stop logging. It is not correlated with log rotation--that is, the errors do not occur when logrotate kicks in. What happens is, I will verify that the server is serving files by hitting a URL with my browser, and I will verify that it is not logging by checking access.log and seeing that the GET request I just made is not there. Using init.d to restart the process starts logging again, without truncating or rotating the log file. That is, new requests will be logged at the end of the existing access.log file. There are no cron jobs running on this box. Any ideas?

• Alias a Virtual Directory or Application as Root on IIS 7

  Our current IIS setup as two applications running on different paths at (for example) http://server/sub-a and http://server/sub-b. I want to alias http://server/sub-a as root so that just going to http://server/ will bring up the contents of sub-a. The problem I face is that when I initially set up a ReverseProxy it negatively affected http://server/sub-b. I know this is a fairly common problem- how have you solved it? 99.9% of my experience is with Apache, so I feel a tad lost in the GUI world of IIS.

  I will briefly explain my situation. I have a website in PHP, this website is powered by a custom framework + some "plug-in" made ad hoc for it. I am the only developer of this. Until now I just test locally any changes than I upload the php files via FTP. I don't feel confortable anymore with this. The code base has grown quite a lot and I need some sort of system that helps to keep track of changes (line by line) and can restore to an old version easly if something goes wrong. Are there any good solution for this?   I am trying to connect to a remote MS SQL Server 2008 SP3 x86 Instance using it's name. At the first glance all seems to work well (e.g. it is possible to connect to the server locally and succesfully telnet it's port remotely), but there is a thing I can't understand... This line should connect us to the default instance of remote SQL Server: osql -S ServerIP -d MyDatabase /U sa -P MyPassword and it does the trick, however the next one: osql -S ServerIP\MyInstance -d MyDatabase /U sa -P MyPassword ends up with the following error: [SQL Native Client]SQL Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance Specified [xFFFFFFFF]. [SQL Native Client]Login timeout expired [SQL Native Client]An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. The only instance running on the server is MyInstance, which is (I guess) the default one. Could you please put some time in explaining the issue.
