• How to Animate a Gradient on a Path to visualize data flow in WPF/WCF app

  I have an interesting project where several "nodes" on a cnavas are connected via a Path similiar to a mindmap tree. The path is used to visualize the connection state between two nodes. Red means the nodes are disconnected, green means they're connected. The next step would be to illustrate data flow (from A to B or B to A) using that path and an animation. Basically I would want to start the animation with the data transfer and stop it when the transfer is complete. Does anyone know how this could be done in WPF?

• jQuery Select Menu Replacement

  I have a select drop-down that selects a theme for the current page the user is on: <select id="style" name="acct-stylenum"> <option value="1" selected="true">Light</option> <option value="2">Dark</option> </select> Now what I would like to do is add two divs that will also control this select menu. I would much rather have the user select between two images than a select menu. The divs are as follows: <div class="style-box light"></div> <div class="style-box dark"></div> I would like to use jQuery to make the select menu hidden but still use its input. Also I would like the divs to control the menus value and show a selected state. Please let me know the easiest way this can be done using jQuery or JavaScript. Thanks in advance. -B

• How to set the mechanize page encoding?

  Hi, I'm trying to get a page with an ISO-8859-1 encoding clicking on a link, so the code is similar to this: page_result = page.link_with( :text => 'link_text' ).click So far I get the result with a wrong encoding, so I see characters like: 'T?tulo:' instead of 'Título:' I've tried several approaches, including: Stating the encoding in the first request using the agent like: @page_search = @agent.get( :url => 'http://www.server.com', :headers => { 'Accept-Charset' => 'ISO-8859-1' } ) Stating the encoding for the page itself page_result.encoding = 'ISO-8859-1' But I must be doing something wrong: a simple puts always show the wrong characters. Do you know how to state the encoding? • How to properly use glDiscardFramebufferEXT

  This question relates to the OpenGL ES 2.0 Extension EXT_discard_framebuffer. It is unclear to me which cases justify the use of this extension. If I call glDiscardFramebufferEXT() and it puts the specified attachable images in an undefined state this means that either: - I don't care about the content anymore since it has been used with glReadPixels() already, - I don't care about the content anymore since it has been used with glCopyTexSubImage() already, - I shouldn't have made the render in the first place. Clearly, only the 1st two cases make sense or are there other cases in which glDiscardFramebufferEXT() is useful? If yes, which are these cases?

• Cannot receive email outside domain with Microsoft Exchange

  This morning we couldn't receive email from outside our company's domain (domain.com.au), but we can send email to outside (e.g hotmail, gmail, yahoo). When I tried to send email to my work email address using my gmail account, I received this message Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 Unable to relay for [email protected] (state 14). I tried using telnet to send email, and it works. But still I couldn't figure out why I can't receive email from outside. I'm not sure if I provided enough info. I'll try to provide as much info as needed to help me solve the problem. Thanks

• Outlook 2003 add-in - Getting COM exception on application shutdown after creating WPF window

  Hi! I'm developing an outlook 2003 add-in. Until now I used only winforms to display one form, but today I've added a WPF window for more complex stuff. DUe to the WPF window, a COM exception is being thrown when outlook shuts down. Does anybody know why? I need to start a separate thread for the WPF window in single apartment state.   Hi Everyone, I am trying to figure out how to implement a simple "undo" of last drawing action on the iPhone screen. • Are TClientDataSets part of your toolkit, or have they been replaced by something else?

  I have 50 or 60 records of four or five fields. I need to load the records into RAM (From a CSV file), search on different fields, enumerate, etc. Not a lot of data, not a lot of functionality. I was all excited to use the new (to me in D2010) TDictionary or TList, but thought that a TClientDataset (which I've never used before) might be more appropriate. With a TClientDataSet, I can use .Locate on any field, enumerate with while NOT CDS.EOF, etc. And, what exactly is this MidasLib that I have to use with CDS? Can I reasonably expect it to be supported in the future? Is TClientDataSet still considered state-of-the-art, or is it showing its age and somewhat deprecated (literally and figuratively)? I've seen colleagues use DX's TdxMemData. Why use it (or any of the other handful of memory datasets I've seen while googling this issue) rather than a CDS?   Hi, I read the mysql table lengths questions on stackoverflow on here: questions/391323/table-comment-length-in-mysql questions/2473934/how-to-increase-mysql-table-comments-length The first link suggests that it can be done and the second suggests it cannot. I don't know why there is this limitation as the comments are very useful. Imagine if there was a limit of 60 characters for your programs. I wrote about this on my site and have some snapshots to the phpmyadmin and Dbforge MySQL IDEs: http://mysql.tutorialref.com/mysql-table-comment-length-limit.html Is there a way to change this in phpmyadmin or perhaps even on the CLI?   It seems to me that functional programming is a great thing. It eliminates state and makes it much easier to automatically make code run in parallel. Many programmers who were first taught imperative programming styles find it very difficult to learn functional programming, because it is so different. I began to wonder if programmers who were taught functional programming first would find it hard to begin imperative programming. It seems like it would not be as hard as the other way around, so I thought it would be a good thing if more programmers were taught functional programming first. So, my question is, should functional programming be taught in school before imperative, and if so, why is it not more common to start with it?

  I'm looking for a good JavaScript tree / treegrid package. Now -- before you answer: It needs to be able to perform well with lots of nodes. Perhaps 1,000 sibling nodes. It needs to be able to draw to a usable state within 2 or 3 seconds with 1,000 nodes. It doesn't necessarily need to draw all 1,000 nodes at once -- if it supports some sort of "smart rendering" or fake scrolling. Beyond that, column resizing, drag and drop, inline editing would all be nice, although I could probably add that functionality myself. I've already tried dojo's tree and yahoo's YUI treeview. Both are too slow.

• Winforms checkbox Databinding problem

  Hello everybody! In a winforms application (VB, VS2008 SP1) i bound a checkbox field to a SQL Server 2005 BIT field. The databinding itself seems to work, there is this litte problem: user creates a new record and checks the checkbox, then the user decides to create a new record (without having saved the previous, so there are 2 new records to be submitted) and checks also the second. Now the user decides to save these records: the result is that only the second record keeps the checked value, the first one is unchecked! (i tried the same with 5 records: the result is the same, the first 4 records are unchecked and only the last one keeps the checked state). What do i miss?? Thanks in advance

  I have an application which uses WinHTTP, and it seems under Windows 7 (64-bit; have yet to test the 32-bit version) the call to WinHttpOpen fails, returning "The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation." This corresponds to error code 5023, and occurs for the Administrator as well as a standard user. The C++ DLL containing this call was compiled using Visual Studio 2008 (32-bit) on a Windows XP Professional system. Other than Outlook 2007, this is an otherwise clean install in a VM. Thanks!

The behavior is that in case a big file in GBs is copied to the watched directory i get the notification immediately and thereby i start doing my operation according to the notification i receive ,but the file IO ( copy operation is still pending) and that results in unxpected state.   I have the following code in Java: if(!conn.isClosed()) { conn.close(); } Instead of working, I am awarded with: java.sql.SQLException: Connection already closed My connection object is a Snaq.db.CacheConnection I checked the JavaDocs for isClosed, and they state that: This method generally cannot be called to determine whether a connection to a database is valid or invalid. A typical client can determine that a connection is invalid by catching any exceptions that might be thrown when an operation is attempted. So my questions are: 1) What good is JDBC's isClosed() anyway? Since when do we use Exceptions in Java to check for validity? 2) What is the correct pattern to close a database? Should I just close and swallow exceptions? 3) Any idea why would SnaqDB be closing the connection? (My backend is a Postgres 8.3)

All is working well, its a simple web method(external webservice) that gets executed on the server tier(necessary, otherwise clr interop error) But I've ran into the following problems : is it possible to close the proxy one way or another? Because this option is not available in the generated service object in AX (only the webmethods and a tostring). at a certain moment, i ran into a service with faulted state. Normally, you create the service object again, but this didnt solve anything, until i restarted the AOS. Is this normal behaviour? Is the service object cached or something like that on server side? • Making the domain-model of tic tac toe

  I am trying to make the domain model of a Tic Tac Toe game. I'll try then to go on through the various steps of the Unified Process and later implement it in some language (C# or Java). I'd like to have some feedback if I'm going on the right path: I've defined the game with two actors, Player O and Player X. I'm not sure about defining both a Tile and a Tile State. Maybe I should only define a Tile and have the 3 possible states specialize from it? I'm not sure what is best: to have both Player O and Player X be associations with Tic Tac Toe or have them inherit from Player that is associated with Tic Tac Toe. Following the design shown on the pic, in theory we could have a Tic Tac Toe concept with 2 Player O's, which wouldn't be correct. What is your opinion on this? Also, am I missing something in the diagram? Although I can't see any other actors for Tic Tac Toe, should I have any other? Thanks

• ListView FocusedItem Becomes NULL

  When the program runs, there is a series of ListView forms. We populated one of them with items (as strings) and we check whether the state of selection has changed. Once it's changed, we grab the text of the selected item using FocusedItem.Text. The first time works just fine but when another selection is made, the selected item returns as null. The only way we can temporarily get around this issue is to clear and repopulate the form. The disadvantage is that we lose the highlighted item. There got to be another way around this. Maybe we're not clear on how ListView really works? Any ideas?

Can anyone see what the problem is here?
