• MySQL Returns wrong values on SELECT statement

  All, I'm wondering if this is a MySQL bug, but since I've seen others playing with larger numbers than this, I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong here. Two of these results are valid, and two definitely are not. It's not like I'm doing some super-complex nested query or anything, this is simple stuff, and it's driving me insane. Help, anyone?

  I'm fairly new to mysql and I have no idea if I'm heading in the right direction but I'm having trouble with a mysql query. I basically have a table of users id name ---- -------- 1 user1 2 user2 3 user3 4 user4 as well as a table of user attributes id userid attribute ---- ----- ------ 1 1 5 2 1 6 3 2 5 4 3 4 I want to be able to select users that have both the attribute 5 and the attribute 6, so in this case I want to return id name ---- -------- 1 user1 I tried using a join like this. SELECT u.id, u.name FROM users u LEFT JOIN attributes a ON (a.userid = u.id) WHERE a.attribute = 5 AND a.attribute = 6 But obviously that won't work, what is the best way of doing this?

• In SQL, a Join is actually an Intersection? And it is also a linkage or a "Sideway Union"?

  I always thought of a Join in SQL as some kind of linkage between two tables. For example, select e.name, d.name from employees e, departments d where employees.deptID = departments.deptID In this case, it is linking two tables, to show each employee with a department name instead of a department ID. And kind of like a "linkage" or "Union" sideway". But, after learning about inner join vs outer join, it shows that a Join (Inner join) is actually an intersection. For example, when one table has the ID 1, 2, 7, 8, while another table has the ID 7 and 8 only, the way we get the intersection is: select * from t1, t2 where t1.ID = t2.ID to get the two records of "7 and 8". So it is actually an intersection. So we have the "Intersection" of 2 tables. Compare this with the "Union" operation on 2 tables. Can a Join be thought of as an "Intersection"? But what about the "linking" or "sideway union" aspect of it?

• Is it possible to use an incremental value within a variable name whilst declaring it within a loop?

  Hi, I'm creating function which will read different XML files each time that will contain different amounts of the same nodes. I have already created a loop which stores the ID of each node into an array, and now I want to create variables for each array member which store attributes of the node with each ID. Because the number of nodes will be different for every XML document my function reads, I cannot manually assign variables for the attributes of each node ID not knowing how many to assign, so I have created a loop which runs specific to the number of items I have stored in the array. Inside this loop I was hoping to have something like: for (i=0; i<array.length; i++) { var ID + i + width = exampleheight var ID + i + height = exampleheight } I know this doesn't work, but was trying to outline what I am looking to find out. Is it possible to use some kind of variable or random number when declaring a variable?

• Sharing the same file between different projects

  Hi Everyone, For version control we currently use Visual Source Safe and are thinking of migrating to another version control system (SVN, Mercurial, Git). Currently we use Visual Source Safe's "Shared" file feature quite heavily. This allows us to share code between design and runtimes of a single product, and between multiple products as well. For example: **Product One** - Design Login.cpp Login.h Helper.cpp Helper.h - Runtime Login.cpp Login.h Helper.cpp Helper.h **Product Two** - Design Login.cpp Login.h - Launcher Login.cpp Login.h - Runtime Login.cpp Login.h In this example Login.cpp and Login.h contain common code that all of our projects need, Helper.cpp and Helper.h is only used in Product One. In Visual Source Safe they are shared between the specific projects, which means that whenever the files are updated in one project they are updated in any project they are shared with. This is a simple example but hopefully it explains why we use the shared feature: to reduce the amount of duplicated code and ensure that when a bug is fixed all projects automatically have access to the new fixed code. After researching alternatives to Visual Source Safe it seems that most version control systems do not have the idea of shared files, instead they seem to use the idea of sub repositories. Should we restructure our projects so that two copies of the files do not exist and an include directory is used instead? e.g. Product One Design Login.cpp Login.h Runtime Login.cpp Login.h Common Helper.cpp Helper.h This still leaves what to do with Login.cpp and Logon.h Should the shared files be moved to their own repository and then compiled into a lib or dll? This would make bug fixing more time consuming as the lib projects would have to be edited and then rebuilt. Should we use externals or sub repositories? Should we combine our projects (i.e. runtime, design, and launcher) into one large project? Any help would be appreciated. We have the feeling that our project design has evolved based on the tools that we used and now that we are thinking of switching tools it's difficult for us to see how we can best modify our practices. Or maybe we are the only people are there doing this...? Also, we use Visual Studio for all of our stuff. Thanks.

  I don't know why but the data type in this code makes a trouble when the id in the url starts with the number zero like this: http://localhost/exp/update.php?id=03A43 In this case the id is 03A43.   I have a table called excel that has 3 columns, name, id, and full_name. The name part is the only one I have and I need to fill id and full_name. The other table that contains the data is called tim_pismena and has 2 columns that I need, id and pismeno_name (the actual names are not important, but i'm writing them just for clarity). In pseudooracle code :) the select that gets me the values from the second table would be done something like this: SELECT tp.id, tp.pismeno_name FROM tim_pismena tp WHERE upper(tp.naziv_pismena) LIKE IN upper('%(SELECT ime as FROM excel)%') and when used with an insert, the end result should be something like name id full_name Happy Joe 55 Very fun place Happy Joe, isn't it?

  Why do I need to add allocationSize=1 when using the @TableGenerator to ensure that the id wouldn't jump from 1, 2,... to 32,xxx, 65,xxx,... after a jvm restart? Is there a design reason for the need to specify the allocationSize? • Getting jQuery to recognise .change() in IE

  I'm using jQuery to hide and show elements when a radio button group is altered/clicked. It works fine in browsers like Firefox, but in IE 6 and 7, the action only occurs when the user then clicks somewhere else on the page. To elaborate, when you load the page, everything looks fine. In Firefox, if you click a radio button, one table row is hidden and the other one is shown immediately. However, in IE 6 and 7, you click the radio button and nothing will happen until you click somewhere on the page. Only then does IE redraw the page, hiding and showing the relevant elements. Here's the jQuery I'm using: $(document).ready(function(){ $(".hiddenOnLoad").hide(); $("#viewByOrg").change(function () { $(".visibleOnLoad").show(); $(".hiddenOnLoad").hide(); }); $("#viewByProduct").change(function () { $(".visibleOnLoad").hide(); $(".hiddenOnLoad").show(); }); }); Here's the part of the XHTML that it affects.   I have 3 tables in my database. ab_contacts id first_name last_name addressbook_id ab_addressbooks name id co_comments id link_id comment I'd like to create a query that will let me select all the contacts and comments related to them in a given addressbook. To select all the people in a given addressbook, I can use: select count(*) from ab_contacts where addressbook_id = '50'; This returns 8152 people. However, when I run my query: select ab_contacts.first_name, ab_contacts.last_name, ab_contacts.email, ab_addressbooks.name, co_comments.comments from ab_contacts JOIN ab_addressbooks ON (ab_contacts.addressbook_id = ab_addressbooks.id) JOIN co_comments ON (ab_contacts.id = co_comments.link_id) WHERE ab_contacts.addressbook_id = '50';` the format works, but I only get 1045 results. I'm sure there is something I am missing, but I cannot figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
