• Manipulate Excel workbooks programmatically

  I have an Excel workbook that I want to use as a template. It has several worksheets setup, one that produces the pretty graphs and summarizes the numbers. Sheet 1 needs to be populated with data that is generated by another program. The data comes in a tab delimited file. Currently the user imports the tab delimited file into a new Workbook, selects all and copies. Then goes to the template and pastes the data into sheet1. This is a large amount of data, 269 columns and over 135,000 rows. It’s a cumbersome process and the users are not experienced Excel users. All they really want is the pretty graphs. I would like to add a step after the program that generates the data to programmatically automate the process the user currently must do manually. Can anyone suggest the best method/programming language that could accomplish this?

" The installation of WebSphere Sutdio cannot continue because the following required parts are missing from the electronic images. Download the required parts and run the installation program again. C571ILML.bin " I am installing from the local hdd (d:/temp/disk1, disk2,disk3 and disk4) of setup program. Can any body help me what could be the problem and how to solve this to install the IBM WAS. It prints some kind of data mixed with environment variables and a segmentation fault at the end. How is this possible? What is the program printing? Thanks, John

• C#, MEF - Sign trusted plugins for abuse reduction

  Hi there. I have a program that is extendable by plugins using the Microsoft Extensibility Framework. But i dont want untrusted sources to give out plugins that may be insecure. So i want to sign the plugins (maybe with Visual Studio's built in signing) and check if the plugins are trustworthy at program start. I didn't find a way to check DLL signing from inside C#. And also there is the problem, that I load the plugins with a DirectoryCatalog. There is no way to tell, which plugin is from which file. Anyone knows a way to do this? Thanks for any help, Marks

  I'm writing some code so that at each iteration of a for loop it runs a functions which writes data into a file, like this: int main() { int i; /* Write data to file 100 times */ for(i = 0; i < 100; i++) writedata(); return 0; } void writedata() { /* Create file for displaying output */ FILE *data; data = fopen("output.dat", "a"); /* do other stuff */ ... } How do I get it so that when I run the program it will delete the file contents at the beginning of the program, but after that it will append data to the file? I know that using the "w" identifier in fopen() will open a new file that's empty, but I want to be able to 'append' data to the file each time it goes through the 'writedata()' function, hence the use of the "a" identifier.

• Ruby: Read large data from stdout and stderr of an external process on Windows

  Greetings, all, I need to run a potentially long-running process from Ruby on Windows and subsequently capture and parse the data from the external process's standard output and error. A large amount of data can be sent to each, but I am only necessarily interested in one line at a time (not capturing and storing the whole of the output). After a bit of research, I found that the Open3 class would take care of executing the process and giving me IO objects connected to the process's standard output and error (via popen3). Open3.popen3("external-program.bat") do |stdin, out, err, thread| # Step3.profit() ? end However, I'm not sure how to continually read from both streams without blocking the program. Since calling IO#readlines on out or err when a lot of data has been sent results in a memory allocation error, I'm trying to continuously check both streams for available input, but not having much luck with any of my implementations.   am having issues with prerequisites while trying to publish my windows .net 3.5 application using clickonce. I am wanting my application to work offline as well as online, so I want to include the prerequisites in the installation and not make client download them via the internet. My prerequisites are: .Net Framework Client Profile SQL Compact 3.5 I have downloaded the .Net Framework Client Profile Offline Installer. Installed it and put the DotNetFx35Client.exe in this location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages\DotNetFx35Client Under the Project - Publish Tab I have checked the "Download prerequisites from the following location" and entered \MachineName\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages\DotNetFx35Client Following http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1046370?tab=oldest#tab-top I am however still the error: The install location for prerequisites has not been set to 'component vendo's website' file Dotnetfx35client\Dotnetfx35clientSteup.exe' in item .net framework client profile can not be located on disk.

  Hi, I've read that static variables are used inside function when one doesn't want the variable value to change/initialize each time the function is called. But what about defining a variable static in the main program before "main" e.g. #include <stdio.h> static double m = 30000; int main(void) { value = m * 2 + 3; } Here the variable m has a constant value that won't get modified later in the main program. In the same line of thought what difference does it make to have these instead of using the static definition: const double m = 30000; or #define m 30000 //m or M and then making sure here to use double operations in the main code so as to convert m to the right data type. • Is it possible to run C++ binded with SDL+OpenGL code on a web browser?

  My client wants her website to have an application that renders 3D (light 3D stuff, we are drawing only flat squares in 3D world) but web programming is not my thing. So I am looking for something that can run a C++ program from a web browser. But I think, if this is the case, then the client side must download the program first, and that's not what I want. The client should only be able to use this application only on the website. I came across Google Native Client, which claims that it can run x86 native code in web applications. I haven't decide whether it is worth it or not and I don't know whether this is what I want or not, so I decided to ask experienced people about this. If I want to have something like this, is what I said above possible? Or I completely need other languages like Flex because it does not worth the trouble? Or is Google Native Client suitable for doing something like this?

• Nested for loop error with !null checking an element that doesn't exist

  I am currently using nested for loops in a 2D array of size 4,2. When I run my program, I get index out of bounds Exception on the following line else if (state[i][j+1] != null && state[i][j].getFlash() <= state[i][j].getCycleLength() && state[i][j+1].getCycleLength() == state[i][j].getCycleLength()){ } It says the index out of bounds is 2. I would understand the error if I wasn't checking to see if [i][j+1] wasn't null, but I don't understand the exception with the check? I tried moving around the !null check but the program still fails on this line. Any help would be greatly appreciated. • Select calls seems to not time out.

  HI Folks, I have a threaded C++ program where up to three threads are calling select on a three separate socket descriptors waiting for data to become available. Each thread handles one socket and adds it to the readfds with a timeout of 300 seconds. After select returns if there is data available I'm calling recv to read it. Is there anything that I need to be aware of with winsock and threads because for some reason after a number of hours the select calls all seem to be not timing out. Can a multi threaded program select from a number of threads without issue? I know that I should have one thread listening to all three sockets however that would be a large change for this app and I'm only looking to apply a bug fix. cheers, Martin.

  I want to access my .wav files which are in a package inside my project. For example I got two packages: package program package sounds From inside the program/something.class I'd like to play the sounds/asound.wav. How is this possible. clip.open(AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(new File(filename))); clip.start(); //.... something inbetween clip.stop(); Here filename is C:\\projects\\something\\sounds\\, but how is it possible to just give a relative path to the asound.wav in the package?

• pl/sql does not work with %rowtype

  I want to do a simple PL/SQL program on the Oracle 10g internet environment. The program is: DECLARE stud_rec students%ROWTYPE; last_name VARCHAR2:='Clinton'; BEGIN SELECT * INTO stud_rec FROM students WHERE student_id=100; END; I have a table called students with data inside of it. The issue is that when I want to run this in the SQL command window I got this message: ORA-06550: line 3, column 11: PLS-00215: String length constraints must be in range (1 .. 32767) I have checked the syntax and I cannot find the error.   I'm new to python but I caught on to the basics pretty quick and decided to start trying to make a program while I'm still learning, since I learn best by actually doing things. So I'm making a program in python that will add polynomials and I need to see if a character from the parser is numeric im using the isdigit() command. Instead of having to type isdigit() all the time in my code such as n.isdigit(), I want to assign it to a variable t = 'isdigit()' and then type n.t. This doesn't work, so is there an alternative to not typing the whole command?

  Hi, so in my program I have parts where I use try catch blocks like this try { DirectoryInfo dirInfo = new DirectoryInfo(someString); //I don't know if that directory exists //I don't know if that string is valid path string... it could be anything //Some operations here } catch(Exception iDontCareWhyItFailed) { //Didn't work? great... we will say: somethings wrong, try again/next one } Of course I probably could do checks to see if the string is valid path (regex), then I would check if directory exists, then I could catch various exceptions to see why my routine failed and give more info... But in my program it's not really necessary. Now I just really need to know if this is acceptable, and what would a pro say/think about that. Thanks a lot for attention.

  I am curious about how c/c++ compiler analyse lib files ? I mean say I create a library containing some classes, I am using that library in my main program. How does compiler know what class names are there in that library. Of course that information is present in binary format, I want to use that functionality in my program, to be specific I have a binary lib file and I want to know all classes and properties/functions present in that lib file.   Let's say that there is a file that contains an unsorted list of student information, which includes a student ID number as well as other information. I want to make a program that retrieves student information based on student ID number. In order to make it efficient, I store the student IDs in a B-tree. So when I enter a student ID number, it searches the B-tree to see if its there or not. It also does one more thing. If it finds the student ID number, then it also returns where in the file that student's information is. This is the secondary key. The program uses this information to locate the rest of the student's information and prints it to screen. Can this be done? Is this how a b-tree works?

Any help to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

• Fastest way to find sum of digits on big numbers

  I have some big numbers (again) and i need to find if the sum of the digits is an even number. I tried this: finding the sum of the digits with a while loop and then checking if that sum % 2 equals 0 and it's working but it's too slow for big numbers, because i am given intervals of numbers and if the input is 1999999 19999999999 then my program fails, i cannot complete within the time limit which is 0,1 sec. What to do ? Is there any other faster way to do this ? EDIT: The input 1999999 19999999999 means it will start with 1999999 and check all the numbers like i wrote above until 19999999999, and because we are talking about big numbers (< 2^30) my program is not worthy.
