  • What's the difference between $get and $find in JavaScript?

    Hi, I'm a .NET programmer who've just started to learn more about client side scripting, and I was wondering sometimes you use $get('value') and $find('value') and I've discovered that these are just shortcuts for document.getElementById('value') and Sys.Application.findComponent('value'), respectively. However, I still don't understand: what is the difference between these two functions in JavaScript? What exactly are they looking up/retrieving when invoked? Thanks in advance.

    I have an Entry model which can belong to a Category.I am providing a CategoryChoicesForm sothat the user can choose from various Categorys (from a dropdown list)when an Entry is created or edited. I am having trouble with the CategoryChoicesForm while editing the Entry.It throws a TypeError..     I'm building simple Course Management App. I want Users to sign up for Course. Here's sign up model: class CourseMembers(models.Model): student = models.ForeignKey(Student) course = models.ForeignKey(Course) def __unicode__(self): return unicode(self.student) Student model is extended User model - I'd like to fill the form with request.user. In Course model most important is course_id, which i'm passing into view throught URL parameter (for example http://127.0.0.1:8000/courses/course/1/). What i want to achieve, is to generate 'invisible' (so user can't change the inserted data) form with just input, but containing request.user and course_id parameter.

  • Update MySQl table onDrop?

    Hi all. I am writing a PHP/MySQL application (using CodeIgniter) that uses some jQuery functionality for dragging table rows. I have a table in which the user can drag rows to the desired order (kind of a queue for which I need to preserve the rank of each row). I've been trying to figure out how to (and whether I should) update the database each time the user drops a row, in order to simplify the UI and avoid a "Save" button. I have the jQuery working and can send a serialized list back to the server onDrop, but is it good design practice to run an update query this often? The table will usually have 30-40 rows max, but if the user drags row 1 far down the list, then potentially all the rows would need to be updated to update the rank field. I've been wondering whether to send a giant query to the server, to loop through the rows in PHP and update each row with its own Update query, to send a small serialized list to a stored procedure to let the server do all the work, or perhaps a better method I haven't considered. I've read that stored procedures in MySQL are not very efficient and use a separate process for each call. Any advice as to the right solution here? Thanks very much for your help!

When they first register i do not need all the details such as telephone all i really need is there username, email address and password. Do i create another model for this. Or do i have one model and on the controller set the fields to null or empty string that are not required on registration. I have validation also so would this be set for data that has not been entered on the form. My question is ultimately should all forms represent models- should the database be redesigned to meet this required. Or should the controller set the values that are not required. Or should there be another model that represents the form be created which maps to this table. I am a little confused on this and clarification of anyone would be most appreciated.

If i set though the jquery code (f11/f10) the callback is called??!!!?

But by reflex, they often hit enter when they finish with a text input box - but before they are actually done with the complete form. I'd like to hijack the Enter key only when then focus is on a certain class of input.     I'm using a jQuery tip plugin to show help tips when the user hovers certain elements of the page. I need to register the plugin events after the page is loaded using css selectors. The problem is I'm using an ASP.NET Update Panel and after the first postback, the tips stop working because the update panel replaces the page content but doesn't rebind the javascript events. I need a way to execute a javascript callback after the Update Panel refreshes its content, so I can rebind the javascript events to have the tips working again. Is there any way to do this?

    Hi, What exactly the definition of a "Lisp form"? As far as I know, it's "either an atom or a list that has a symbol as its first element". But then, this (in Scheme) would not be a form: ((lambda () 42)) ;; The answer to Life, the Universe and Everything. Because the first element of the list is itself another list. And after it's evaluated it will be a procedure (not a symbol). I can find several different websites and tutorials talking about Lisp forms, but none which gives a complete and detailed definition. Where can I find one?

Where's the best place to create and store the objects? I'm coming from Delphi, where Form objects were usually stored in global variables. I'm tempted to do it in the static Program class.     The main page ("parent.html") has a link that ajaxloads a page ("page1.html") into a div ("targetdiv") in the main page, like so: parent html: $("#targetdiv").html(loading).load('page1.html'); This works fine and "page1.html" is loaded into "targetdiv". The "page1.html" also has a link in it that is supposed to ajaxload another page ("page2.html") into "targetdiv" (onto itself), like so: page1.html: (in "targetdiv") $("#targetdiv").html(loading).load('page2.html'); This does not work; "html(loading)" comes up in "targetdiv" and stays there, "page2.html" is not loaded.     My question is "How can I do form repeated validation in Entity with annotation?". I have an Account entity with (email, password and confirmPassword) attributes. When a new user registers a new account, he/she has to fill in email, password and confirmPassword fields. Obviously, password and confirmPassword fields must match. I saw an example of this validation with pure php (form builder) in Stachoverflow like below. $builder->add('password', 'repeated', array( 'type' => 'password', 'first_name' => 'Password', 'second_name' => 'Password confirmation', 'invalid_message' => 'Passwords are not the same', )); But, this is not what I want. I want this functionality with annotation in my Account entity.
