  Hi all: I'm currently using SPWeb's ProcessBatchData to update a lot of list items/folders into Sharepoint database. For example, in one batch update I have ~1200 objects to update. I also run it numerous times during different phases in my app. I found that it is generally faster and more efficient in updating large amount of items. But lately the performance of the app has decreased as more processes get added to the app (and also more batch updates). I was wondering whether the ProcessBatchData would be a suspect in slowing down the app? E.g. temporarily locking up db, draining resources, lagging network, etc. Thanks.

• Using ExpressionEngine or Joomla templates inside a pre-existing page?

  Hey SO, So I'm new to both Joomla and Expression Engine, and want to know if I can use it like I'd like. I've already made a full site, and would like to integrate blogging into the site. The site is on CodeIgniter. Is there a way that I could create a form template for submitting a post which would then save to my Joomla/CodeIgniter DB. Then, on a different page, use a different Joomla/CodeIgniter template to display the blog in the form I would like. Note that this wouldn't necessarily be powered by EE or Joomla. From what I understand, and from all the examples I've seen, you have to make the html of the entire page inside of their templates. At worst, if neither work, is there anything I can use to do this? • Hitting a ADO.NET Data Services from WPF client, forms authentication

  Hey all! There are a number of questiosn on StackOverflow that ALMOST hit this topic head on, but they are either for other technologies, reference obsolets information or don;t supply an answer that I can suss out. So pardon the almost duplication :) I have a working ADO.NET Data Service, and a WPF client that hits it. Now that they are working fine I want to add authentication / security to the system. My understanding of the steps so far is... Turn on forms authentication and configure it on the server (I have an existing asp.net membership service DB for other aspects of this app, so that isnt a problem) so that it is required for the service URL In WCF apply for and recieve a forms authentication "ticket" as part of a login routine Add that "ticket" to the headers of the ADO.NET service calls in WPF Profit! All well and good - but does anyone have a line on a soup to nuts code sample, using the modern releases of these technologies? Thanks!

• Using truncate table alongside Hibernate?

  Is it OK to truncate tables while at the same time using Hibernate to insert data? We parse a big XML file with many relationships into Hibernate POJO's and persist to the DB. We are now planning on purging existing data at certain points in time by truncating the tables. Is this OK? It seems to work fine. We don't use Hibernate's second level cache. One thing I did notice, which is fine, is that when inserting we generate primary keys using Hibernate's @GeneratedValue where Hibernate just uses a key value one greater than the highest value in the table - and even though we are truncating the tables, Hibernate remembers the prior value and uses prior value + 1 as opposed to starting over at 1. This is fine, just unexpected. Note that the reason we do truncate as opposed to calling delete() on the Hibernate POJO's is for speed. We have gazillions of rows of data, and truncate is just so much faster.

• Overwriting the content from one MOSS content database to another

  We have a content database on our live moss server. It contains one site collection with several sub-sites. I'm using the stsadm export command to produce a cmp file, then moving this to our test server in a different farm. I then want to import this content into the content database on our test farm, using the import stsadm command results in me being left with all the existing test data as well as the live data. I tried detaching the existing content database from test in central admin and creating a new empty one,to the then run the import against that but the import failed as obviously there's not root site in the empty db. The aim is to have the data on test look like live, clearing out all the test data. Can anyone suggest a good approach to this type of problem?

• Infragistics WebScheduleInfo Sample code

  I am working with Infragistics35.WebUI.WebSchedule.v8.2. I am not seeing any good documentation on this on the Infragistics Web site. Does anyone have any sample code I could see? I am trying to create a week view of the calendar. One that "Admins" can edit and the rest of the users can only view. I would love to have a different dblclick event fire based on role, so that a read only version of the activity would show for non admins. Is that possible? I'm just using an access db on the site in the App_Data directory. I really just needed (I thought) an out of the box solution. Cheers.

  When using in-app audio in the iPhone SDK, it is possible to allow users to select a list from their ipod library and create an in-app local playlist. If I want to persist this choice, it is easy to serialize the data and write to file, then recover. Just vanilla like this, however, leads me to think there is going to be something wrong. For example, what if the user syncs and removes sounds? I can loop across them all and query the iPod DB at setup time, but with lists that could be 50,000 long, this could take some time. How are other people doing this and what are some gotchas that I haven't though about?

This class reads the connection properties from a resource file and tries to make a connection to Oracle (thin connection). However, recently the database have moved to a RAC and now the application is unable to connect to the DB.   I pass the query with comments to my template: COMM = CommentModel.gql("ORDER BY created") doRender(self,CP.template,{'CP':CP,'COMM':COMM, 'authorize':authorize()}) And I want to output the number of comments as a result, and I try to do things like that: <a href="...">{{ COMM|length }} comments</a> Thats does not work (yeah, since COMM is GqlQuery, not a list). What can I do with that? Is there a way to convert GqlQuery to list or is there another solution? (first question) Second question is, how to filter this list in template? Is there a construct like this: <a href="...">{{ COMM|where(reference=smth)|length }} comments</a> so that I can get not only the number of all comments, but only comments with certain db.ReferenceProperty() property, for example. Last question: is it weird to do such things using templates?

• Using constructor to load data in subsonic3?

  I'm getting an error while trying to load an record through the constructor. The constructor is: public Document(Expression<Func<Document,bool>> expression); and i try to load a single item in like this var x = new Document(f=>f.publicationnumber=="xxx"); publicationnumber isn't a key but tried making an it an unique key and still no go.. Am i totally wrong regarding the use of the constructor? and can someone please tell me how to use that constructor? • Entity Framework - SaveChanges with GUID as EntityKey

  I have a SQL Server 2008 database table that uses uniqueidentifier as a primary key. On inserts, the key is generated on the database side using the newid() function. This works fine with ADO.NET. But when I set up this table as an entity in an Entity Framework 4 model, there's a problem. I am able to query the entity just fine, but when creating a new entity and invoking SaveChanges() on the context, the generated uniqueidentifier on the database is all zeros. I understand there was an issue with EF v1 where this scenario did not work, requiring creating the GUID on the client prior to calling SaveChanges. However, I had read in many places that they were planning to fix this in EF 4. My question -- is this scenario (DB-side generation of uniqueidentifier) still not supported in EF4? Are we still stuck with generating the GUID on the client?

• Is this so bad when using MySQL queries in PHP?

  I need to update a lot of rows, per a user request. It is a site with products. I could... Delete all old rows for that product, then loop through string building a new INSERT query. This however will lose all data if the INSERT fails. Perform an UPDATE through each loop. This loop currently iterates over 8 items, but in the future it may get up to 15. This many UPDATEs doesn't sound like too good an idea. Change DB Schema, and add an auto_increment Id to the rows. Then first do a SELECT, get all old rows ids in a variable, perform one INSERT, and then a DELETE WHERE IN SET. What is the usual practice here? Thanks

• Problem with the nonresponding threads

  Hello there, I have a web application which runs multiple threads on button click each thread making IO call on different ipAddresses ie(login windows account and then making file operations). There is a treshold value of 30 seconds. I assume that while login attempt if the treshold is exceeded, device on ipAddress does not match my conditions thus I dont care it. Thread.Abort() does not fit my situation where it waits for the IO call to finish which might take long time. I tried doing the db operations acording to states of the threads right after the treshold timeout. It worked fine but when I checked out the log file, I noticed that the thread.IsAlive property of the nonresponding threads were still true. After several debuggings on my local pc, I encountered a possible deadlock situation (which i suspect) that my pc crashed badly. In short, do you have any idea about killing (forcefully) nonresponding threads (waiting for the IO opreation) right after the execution of the button_click? • django select max field from mysql when column is varchar

  Hi, Using Django 1.1, I am trying to select the maximum value from a varchar column (in MySQL.) The data stored in the column looks like: 9001 9002 9017 9624 10104 11823 (In reality, the numbers are much bigger than this.) This worked until the numbers incremented above 10000: Feedback.objects.filter(est__pk=est_id).aggregate(sid=Max('sid')) Now, that same line would return 9624 instead of 11823. I'm able to run a query directly in the DB that gives me what I need, but I can't figure out the best way to do this in Django. The query would be: select max(sid+0) from Feedback; Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

• Force WPF to Commit Changes on Focused Element

  I'm working with VS2010, WPF and EF. I've placed controls on my window by dragging an entity out of the Data Sources toolwindow. I used the "details" setting so my entity is represented by several labels and textboxes. I've also added a button with the following code: _context.SaveChanges(); When I'm editing data, the changes in whichever textbox has focus are not committed back to the DB. Everything else commits just fine. If I shift focus to another element prior to hitting the save button, it commits as well. I've experienced the same thing with the DataGrid. I know I'm missing something simple, but I can figure it out. Any ideas on what I'm missing? Thanks!

• Generate POCO classes in different project to the project with Entity Framework model

  I'm trying to use the Repository Pattern with EF4 using VS2010. To this end I am using POCO code generation by right clicking on the entity model designer and clicking Add code generation item. I then select the POCO template and get my classes. What I would like to be able to do is have my solution structured into separate projects for Entity (POCO) classes and another project for the entity model and repository code. This means that my MVC project could use the POCO classes for strongly typed views etc and not have to know about the repository or have to have a reference to it. To plug it all together I will have another separate project with interfaces and use IoC. Sounds good in my head I just don't know how to generate the classes into their own project! I can copy them and then change the namespaces on them but I wanted to avoid manual work whenever I change the schema in the db and want to update my model. Thanks

  I need to extract Voip log from a D-Link router, so I've setup a little python script that executes a command in this router via telnet. My script does a "cat /var/log/calls.log" and returns the result, however... it also sends non-important stuff, like the BusyBox banner, etc... How can I ignore lines from 1 to 6 and the last 2 ? This is my current output: yaba@foobar:/stuff$ python calls.py BusyBox v1.00 (2009.04.09-11:17+0000) Built-in shell (msh) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. • Comparing two Oracle schema, other users

  Hello! I have been tasked with comparing two oracle schema with a large number of tables to find the structural differences in the schema. Up until know I have used the DB Diff tool in Oracle SQL Developer, and it has worked very well. The issue is that now I need to compare tables in a user that I cannot log into , but I can see it through the other users section in SQL developer. The issue is that whenever I try to use the diff tool to compare those objects to the other schema it does not work. Does anyone have any idea how to do this? It would save me a very large amount of work. I have some basic SQL knowledge if that is whats needed. Thanks.

• Visual C# 2008 Express connection to SQL Server 2008 Express problem

  Hi guys, I have a problem with Visual C# 2008 express (SP1) connecting to SQL Server 2008 express. The "Add Connection" window (wherever initiated) doesn't list existing sql server and no option for sql server except a compact edition. Note that, I've got the VWD 2008 express (SP1) on the same machine which shows the window regularly (with SQL server listed) and SQL Server Management studio works fine with the server as well. I've seen other similar posts, did take some advices: reinstalled the VC#, services run ok, etc... but with no success with VC# so far. Again, on the same machine the VWD shows the dialog with sql server option regularly, but VC# shows only 3 options in "Change data source" dialog (1. Microsoft Access Database File (OLE DB) 2. Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5, 3. Microsoft SQL Server Database File) Any idea? Thanks in advice, Phil

• Select row After UIPickerView is loaded

  I have an iphone database app that loads a UIPickerView with data from a table. I want to set the selected row to a particular row from the data in another table. for example: Lets say I have a UIPickerView that is loaded with X number of names of the iPhone users friends (the number of names is variable, could be 1 or 1000 and all are entered into the DB by the user). The iPhone user has a preference set that their current best friend is TED. I want the UIPickerView to be position to TED when displayed. Where do I call selectRow? I tried in viewDidAppear but it was never called, in titleForRow which caused all kinds of strange behavior. viewDidLoad and viewWillAppear are out of the question because I don't know what's in the datasource to the picker yet.
