    I'm using the following code to hide stderr on Linux/OSX for a Python library I do not control that writes to stderr by default: f = open("/dev/null","w") zookeeper.set_log_stream(f) Is there an easy cross platform alternative to /dev/null? Ideally it would not consume memory since this is a long running process.

    I feel dumb for having been a web programmer for so long and not knowing the answer to this question, I actually hope it's possible and I just didn't know about rather than what I think is the answer (which is that it's not possible). My question is whether it is possible to make a CSS class that "inherits" from another CSS class (or more than one). For example, say we had: .something { display:inline } .else { background:red } What I'd like to do is something like this: .composite { .something; .else } where the ".composite" class would both display inline and have a red background

  • Changing window procedure for console window

    I want to make console window with a functional tray icon. I figured out that most probably it is necessary to replace initial console's window procedure so I will be able to control all messages including notify area events. But SetWindowLong function returns 0, and GetLastError() tells that access is denied. hwndFound = GetConsoleWindow(); SetWindowLong(hwndFound, GWL_WNDPROC, (long)WndProc); What could it be, or maybe there is some other way to control tray icon manipulations?

By the time I broke through and started to make actual progress, I felt tired and kind of angry. (I'll admit: in this case, it took me several days of banging my head and ultimately starting from scratch to finally get around the problems.)     I'm implementing serial key functionality in my application. User needs to enter at least 64bit number in order to register the application. Because typing number like 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 will take a while I want to compress it a bit. The first guess was to code this number hexadecimally but it still is quite long (0x7FFF FFFF FFFF FFFF). Is there any standard method in .NET to code this number alphanumerically using for example: digits, upper-case and lower-case characters?

  • Putting newline in matplotlib label with TeX in Python?

    How can I add a newline to a plot's label (e.g. xlabel or ylabel) in Matplotlib? For example, plt.bar([1, 2], [4, 5]) plt.xlabel("My x label") plt.ylabel(r"My long label with $\Sigma_{C}$ math \n continues here") Ideally i'd like the y-labeled to be centered too. Is there a way to do this? It's important that the label have both tex (enclosed in '$') and the newline. thanks.

  • Is it safe to make GL calls with multiple threads?

    I was wondering if it was safe to make GL calls with multiple threads. Basically I'm using a GLUtesselator and was wondering if I could divide the objects to draw into 4 and assign a thread to each one. I'm just wondering if this would cause trouble since the tesselator uses callback functions. Can 2 threads run the same callback at the same time as long as that callback does not access ant global variables? Are there also other ways I could optimize OpenGL drawing using multithreading?     I want to handle a feature which seems to me almost natural with programs, and I don't know how to handle it with Getopt perl package (no matter Std ot Long). I would like something like: ./perlscript <main option> [some options like -h or --output-file some_name] Options will be handled with - or --, but I want to be able to let the user give me the main and needed option without dashes. Is Getopt able to do that, or do I have to handle it by hand?

Also it'd be interesting if anyone cracked it or spotted an easy hack against it. It must start in the file's containing directory (e.g. /cygdrive/c/scripts/) so that relative paths work. Anyone gotten this to work? Note: I've just found chere, a Cygwin package that manages Windows context menus (Bash Prompt Here). It might have some clues.

  • Visual Studio 2010 - Is it slow for anyone else?

    I've read a lot of stuff about VS2010 being much more performant than VS2008. When I've finally installed it, I found that it, in fact, is much slower (save for the Add References dialog). For instance, Silverlight projects take twice as long to load, the startup of the IDE itself is much slower, etc... Am I missing something here or is it like this for everyone?
