  • Diagnosing packet loss / high latency in Ubuntu

    - by Sam Gammon
We have a Linux box (Ubuntu 12.04) running Nginx (1.5.2), which acts as a reverse proxy/load balancer to some Tornado and Apache hosts. The upstream servers are physically and logically close (same DC, sometimes same-rack) and show sub-millisecond latency between them: PING appserver (10.xx.xx.112) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from appserver (10.xx.xx.112): icmp_req=1 ttl=64 time=0.180 ms 64 bytes from appserver (10.xx.xx.112): icmp_req=2 ttl=64 time=0.165 ms 64 bytes from appserver (10.xx.xx.112): icmp_req=3 ttl=64 time=0.153 ms We receive a sustained load of about 500 requests per second, and are currently seeing regular packet loss / latency spikes from the Internet, even from basic pings: sam@AM-KEEN ~> ping -c 1000 loadbalancer PING 50.xx.xx.16 (50.xx.xx.16): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from loadbalancer: icmp_seq=0 ttl=56 time=11.624 ms 64 bytes from loadbalancer: icmp_seq=1 ttl=56 time=10.494 ms ... many packets later ... Request timeout for icmp_seq 2 64 bytes from loadbalancer: icmp_seq=2 ttl=56 time=1536.516 ms 64 bytes from loadbalancer: icmp_seq=3 ttl=56 time=536.907 ms 64 bytes from loadbalancer: icmp_seq=4 ttl=56 time=9.389 ms ... many packets later ... Request timeout for icmp_seq 919 64 bytes from loadbalancer: icmp_seq=918 ttl=56 time=2932.571 ms 64 bytes from loadbalancer: icmp_seq=919 ttl=56 time=1932.174 ms 64 bytes from loadbalancer: icmp_seq=920 ttl=56 time=932.018 ms 64 bytes from loadbalancer: icmp_seq=921 ttl=56 time=6.157 ms --- 50.xx.xx.16 ping statistics --- 1000 packets transmitted, 997 packets received, 0.3% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 5.119/52.712/2932.571/224.629 ms The pattern is always the same: things operate fine for a while (<20ms), then a ping drops completely, then three or four high-latency pings (1000ms), then it settles down again. Traffic comes in through a bonded public interface (we will call it bond0) configured as such: bond0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:5d inet addr:50.xx.xx.16 Bcast:50.xx.xx.31 Mask:255.255.255.224 inet6 addr: <ipv6 address> Scope:Global inet6 addr: <ipv6 address> Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MASTER MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:527181270 errors:1 dropped:4 overruns:0 frame:1 TX packets:413335045 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:240016223540 (240.0 GB) TX bytes:104301759647 (104.3 GB) Requests are then submitted via HTTP to upstream servers on the private network (we can call it bond1), which is configured like so: bond1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:5c inet addr:10.xx.xx.70 Bcast:10.xx.xx.127 Mask:255.255.255.192 inet6 addr: <ipv6 address> Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MASTER MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:430293342 errors:1 dropped:2 overruns:0 frame:1 TX packets:466983986 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:77714410892 (77.7 GB) TX bytes:227349392334 (227.3 GB) Output of uname -a: Linux <hostname> 3.5.0-42-generic #65~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 2 20:57:18 UTC 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux We have customized sysctl.conf in an attempt to fix the problem, with no success. • Windows 7 / Ubuntu Dualboot GRUB Problem.

    - by Tek
I'd like to first say ahead of time that I'm running a RAID-0 Setup. 1.First of all, I'm glad Ubuntu 9.10 installed flawlessly and detected my RAID-0 setup just fine. The issue I'm having now is that I already had Windows 7 installed and made a small 12GB partition for Linux/Swap. I grabbed EasyBCD 2.0 to edit the W7 bootloader and configured it to use dual boot Grub2 because before it didn't even show the option for Ubuntu. The bootloader points to a file made in the windows directory made by EasyBCD called "C:\NST\AutoNeoGrub0.mbr" which is what I'm guessing grub is booting from. After that I got the option for booting Ubuntu. The problem is that it's sending me to the Grub prompt (probably because it's pointing to \NST|AutoNeoGrub0.mbr?), at first I didn't know what to do but I researched and have to type grub commands to manually boot into Ubuntu Linux. Ex: grubroot (hd0,4) grubkernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6... root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/24624-2424... grubinitrd boot/initrd.img-2.6... grubboot After all that Ubuntu boots just fine, but how do I fix it permanently? Do I need to edit the bootloader manually (since Easy BCD "autoconfigures")? Some insight on this would rock! Also, it sucks to type the actual uuid since it's REALLY long. I tried getting the name of the drive via fdisk -l but since it's raid 0 I'm guessing I can't do that. How can I get a shorter name of the drive? like /dev/sda, /dev/sdb etc? I've also tried to update to the latest GRUB and I got this: Creating config file /etc/default/grub with new version Generating core.img error: cannot seek /dev/sdc' error: cannot seek/dev/sdc' grub-probe: error: no mapping exists for nvidia_dbedfcca5' Auto-detection of a filesystem module failed. • ftp connection problem, vsftp server, active mode

    - by Mark Szente
    I have a server that runs vsftpd to handle ftp connections. One of my users have a notebook with Total Commander and WinSCP installed. Both ftp clients fail right after the connection is established to the server and it tries to download the directory listing with the following error message: Timeout detected. Could not retrieve directory listing PORT command successful. Consider using PASV. Error listing directory '/'. The weird thing is: the notebook works perfectly ok with other ftp servers. My ftp server also works well with other clients. In fact, this user also has a pc running on the same LAN as the notebook and the pc works well with the ftp server. We use PORT ftp connection mode. Passive mode works well but is not an option at this point. I would post more technical details but I don't even know what this problem is related to. Anyway, below is the server side tcpdump for the failed connection attempt. There's no further communication between the client and the server after the last line of log. Thank you very much for any hint! 23:39:24.514852 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: S 1314489715:1314489715(0) win 65535 <mss 1460,nop,wscale 3,nop,nop,sackOK> 23:39:24.514896 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: S 2633658883:2633658883(0) ack 1314489716 win 5840 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK,nop,wscale 2> 23:39:24.520842 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: . ack 1 win 62500 23:39:24.523803 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: P 1:21(20) ack 1 win 1460 23:39:24.546858 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: P 1:15(14) ack 21 win 62497 23:39:24.546902 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: . ack 15 win 1460 23:39:24.547247 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: P 21:55(34) ack 15 win 1460 23:39:24.762806 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: . ack 55 win 62493 23:39:30.415011 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: P 15:28(13) ack 55 win 62493 23:39:30.454116 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: . ack 28 win 1460 23:39:31.036283 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: P 55:78(23) ack 28 win 1460 23:39:31.053018 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: P 28:34(6) ack 78 win 62490 23:39:31.053042 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: . ack 34 win 1460 23:39:31.053268 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: P 78:97(19) ack 34 win 1460 23:39:31.068969 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: P 34:40(6) ack 97 win 62488 23:39:31.069148 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: P 97:112(15) ack 40 win 1460 23:39:31.069179 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: P 112:119(7) ack 40 win 1460 23:39:31.076981 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: . ack 119 win 62485 23:39:31.077010 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: P 119:177(58) ack 40 win 1460 23:39:31.114979 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: P 40:45(5) ack 177 win 62478 23:39:31.115164 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: P 177:186(9) ack 45 win 1460 23:39:31.180966 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: P 45:53(8) ack 186 win 62476 23:39:31.181066 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: P 186:216(30) ack 53 win 1460 23:39:31.213065 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: P 53:80(27) ack 216 win 62473 23:39:31.213180 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: P 216:267(51) ack 80 win 1460 23:39:31.251086 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: P 80:86(6) ack 267 win 62466 23:39:31.251498 IP 195.70.xx.xx.20 > 62.201.xx.xx.5001: S 2640780713:2640780713(0) win 5840 <mss 1460,sackOK,timestamp 2054371220 0,nop,wscale 2> 23:39:31.290979 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: . ack 86 win 1460 23:39:34.251489 IP 195.70.xx.xx.20 > 62.201.xx.xx.5001: S 2640780713:2640780713(0) win 5840 <mss 1460,sackOK,timestamp 2054374220 0,nop,wscale 2> 23:39:40.249625 IP 195.70.xx.xx.20 > 62.201.xx.xx.5001: S 2640780713:2640780713(0) win 5840 <mss 1460,sackOK,timestamp 2054380220 0,nop,wscale 2> 23:39:43.695108 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.1057: P 2280716551:2280716588(37) ack 3838413728 win 5840 23:39:52.248791 IP 195.70.xx.xx.20 > 62.201.xx.xx.5001: S 2640780713:2640780713(0) win 5840 <mss 1460,sackOK,timestamp 2054392220 0,nop,wscale 2> 23:40:16.245159 IP 195.70.xx.xx.20 > 62.201.xx.xx.5001: S 2640780713:2640780713(0) win 5840 <mss 1460,sackOK,timestamp 2054416221 0,nop,wscale 2> 23:40:29.853685 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.1057: FP 37:51(14) ack 1 win 5840 23:40:31.241951 IP 195.70.xx.xx.21 > 62.201.xx.xx.2241: P 267:304(37) ack 86 win 1460 23:40:31.381708 IP 62.201.xx.xx.2241 > 195.70.xx.xx.21: . ack 304 win 62462

  • IPv6 host route is deleted after PMTU expires

    - by SAPikachu
I am experimenting my new IPv6 tunnel setup between my local Ubuntu box and a scratch Linode. I set up some docker containers, configured 6in4 tunnel server and IPv6 forwarding on the Linode: # uname -a Linux argo 3.15.4-x86_64-linode45 #1 SMP Mon Jul 7 08:42:36 EDT 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux # ip addr .. snipped .. 48: sit-sapikachu: <POINTOPOINT,NOARP,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1472 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group default link/sit 106.185.41.115 peer 1.2.3.4 inet6 fd00::1/64 scope global valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever inet6 fe80::6ab9:2973/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever 13: docker0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state UP group default link/ether 56:84:7a:fe:97:99 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 172.17.42.1/16 scope global docker0 valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever inet6 fc00::1/64 scope global valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever inet6 fe80::5484:7aff:fefe:9799/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever // Docker containers are bridged to docker0 On my local box, I configured a 6in4 tunnel interface to connect to the Linode box, and added a host route to one of the docker container: # uname -a Linux sapikachu-netbox 3.13.0-24-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 2 23:30:00 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux # ip addr .. snipped .. 16: sit-argo: <POINTOPOINT,NOARP,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1480 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group default link/sit 0.0.0.0 peer 106.185.41.115 inet6 fd00::2/64 scope global valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever inet6 fe80::a97:302/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever inet6 fe80::ac19:1/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever inet6 fe80::c0a8:1f0/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever inet6 fe80::c0a8:1fa/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever 2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP group default qlen 1000 link/ether *** brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff .. snipped .. inet6 fd00:0:1::1/64 scope global valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever inet6 fe80::2e0:6fff:fe0e:365e/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever # ip route replace fc00::1875:8606:d8c1:8a9d via fd00::1 # Add route to docker container # ip -6 route .. snipped unrelated routes fc00::1875:8606:d8c1:8a9d via fd00::1 dev sit-argo metric 1024 expires 590sec mtu 1472 fd00::/64 dev sit-argo proto kernel metric 256 fd00:0:1::/64 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 fe80::/64 dev sit-argo proto kernel metric 256 (Note that tunnel MTU on my local box is different from the server, this is intentional for testing) After adding the host route to the docker container (fc00::1875:8606:d8c1:8a9d), I can ping the container without problem until the route expires. After that I couldn't get reply any more. If I run ip -6 route in a few seconds after expiration, expiration time of the host route will be a negative number: fc00::1875:8606:d8c1:8a9d via fd00::1 dev sit-argo metric 1024 expires -1sec And output of ip route get fc00::1875:8606:d8c1:8a9d shows that it is routed to my default IPv6 gateway (which fails to route it correctly of course, since the address is not globally routable). After some time, the host route disappears without a trace. This problem won't happen if I do either one of the following things: Set MTU of tunnel on my local box to be the same as the server (1472). The route won't have expiration time in both ip -6 route and ip route get in this case. Instead of adding a host route, add a route with network mask (even /127 works). In this case ip -6 route shows the route without expiration time, ip route get shows expiration time but it will be correctly refreshed after expiration. Although this problem can be easily resolved, I am curious to know why this happens. Is there error in my configuration, or is this a kernel bug?

  • How do I allow mysqld to use more than 24.9% of my cpu?

    - by Joseph Yancey
I have a Web server running on RHEL that is running Apache and MySQL. It has a Quad core 3.2Ghz Xeon CPU and 8 Gigs of RAM Most of the time, we don't have any issues at all. Our web application is very database intensive. When our usage gets pretty heavy MySQL will peg out at using 24.9% of the cpu. Most of the time, it hangs around below 5%. I have speculated that it is only using one core of the CPU and it is pegging out that core but TOP shows me in the cpu column that mysqld changes cores even while the usage stays at 24.9%. When it does this MySQL gets painfully slow as it is queuing up queries Is there some magic configuration that will tell mysql to use more cpu when it needs to? Also, any other advice on my configuration would be helpful. We run two applications on this server. One that runs Innodb but doesn't get much usage (it has been replaced by the other app), and one that runs MyIsam and gets lots of use. Overall, our whole mysql data directory is something like 13Gigs if that matters at all. • Sending ctrl-backslash from Windows to Linux using Synergy

    - by jrbushell
I'm using Synergy+ to share the keyboard and mouse between a Windows and a Linux (Red Hat) PC. The Windows box is the server, Linux is the client, and both are running version 1.3.4. My Windows box is set up for English UK keyboard. In a Linux terminal window, Ctrl+\ (backslash) sends a quit signal to the currently running program - useful to kill a Python script that's run amok, for example. When I try to do this via synergy, Ctrl+- (minus) is sent instead. This has the undesired effect of resizing my terminal window :( Backslash on its own and Shift-backslash = pipe both work fine. Any ideas what's happening?

I have configured passenger on SuSe Linux using simple configuration procedure (calling passenger command and then installing all libraries wich are needed), but now it throws an error.. • Netscreen-Remote Equivalent On Linux

    - by mojah
We're running a simple Juniper VPN tunnel (using Juniper SSG5's) for outside-network access, which works great for Windows PCs since they can connect using the supplied Netscreen-Remote VPN client. Has anyone successfully managed to get this working under Linux? There are several alternatives, but none seem to actually work. The following were tried, but failed: - http://www.prolixium.com/netscreenlinux - http://david.dw-perspective.org.uk/Juniper-Networks-SSL-VPN-Client-On-Linux.html The official version is no Linux Client will ever be developed by Juniper themselves, but perhaps other (open) software exists that has been found compatible to Juniper's VPN?

  • Can't get bridged networking to work between linux guest virtual machine and Mac host

    - by tgoneil
I'm trying to establish bridged networking from linux mint vsn 12 in virtualbox to a Mac Lion host. Mac config: Network setting: en3 configured by DHCP Sharing setting: Internet Sharing selected, Share connection from en3 to computers using en3 Virtualbox Linux setting: Network setting: Bridged Adapter, Name: en3 I can ping from host (192.168.2.1) to guest (192.168.2.2) and guest to host, but I Cannot ping from the Linux guest to the outside world. Connection in host is up, because I can ping from the Mac host to the outside world. Something else that's seems weird to me, in the Mac Network setting, the IP Address generated by DHCP says 169.254.243.185. What the heck is that?? When I open a terminal up in the Mac, however, ifconfig shows its en3 inet address as 192.168.2.1.

  • Access Amazon Linux EC2 over VNC using Guacamole

    - by Neon Flash
I have a t1.micro Amazon Linux AMI instance running. Now, I want to access it using VNC so that I get the GUI. I came across Guacamole and the installation instructions for the server side configuration. So, I get it that we need to setup Apache Tomcat on the Linux machine and then install all the required dependencies, edit the configuration files for Tomcat. But, how do I access it from Windows? What is the client side configuration? From what I understood so far, instead of using a VNC Client like TightVNC or VNCViewer, we can use the Web Browser to access the Amazon EC2 instance. I am using Windows 7 as the client. I would like to access the Amazon Linux AMI (t1.micro instance) over VNC so that I get the GUI.

  • Sharing storage on Linux and Solaris

    - by devlearn
I'm looking for a solution in order to share a san mounted volume between several hosts running on Linux (RHEL) and/or Solaris (Sparc). Note that I basically need to share a set of directories containing large binary files that are accessed in random R/W mode. I have the following reqs : keep the data on the SAN suitable i/o performances as the software is pretty demanding on IOPS stick to a shared file system as I can't afford a cluster fs (lack of MDS/OSS infrastructure) compression could be really usefull For now I've found only the following candidates : GFS2 , supports Linux only, no compression VxFS , supports Linux and Solaris, compression supported So if you have some suggestions for this list, I'll really welcome them. Thanks in advance,

  • grub crc error after decompressing linux

    - by w00t
Hi, I have a debian with a raid1 on it. Both HDDs have bootable flags and grub setup in MBR. If I only start up with sda, linux boots. If I only start up with sdb, grub shows up and says Decompressing Linux... crc error -- System halted I have reinstalled grub a few times now but still nothing. It goes like this: /dev/md0 contains /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 find /boot/grub/stage1 shows (hd0,1) (hd0,1) The line that boots Linux shows: root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.26-1-686 initrd /initrd.img-2.6.26-1-686 This kind of renders my "redundant" array useless. Any clues? update: just to mention, these are 2 different HDDs, sda is 320gb and sdb is 400gb. Both are WD and both have exactly the same partitions, cloned using sfdisk.

  • Monitor a log file on Linux and send each line to another program

    - by mlambie
I run an apt-cacher-ng server on Ubuntu Linux which writes logs in the following format: 1299745593|O|149406|XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX|uburep/pool/main/t/tiff/libtiff4_3.9.2-2ubuntu0.4_amd64.deb 1299745593|O|10154976|XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX|uburep/pool/main/l/linux-firmware/linux-firmware_1.34.4_all.deb 1299748529|O|39368|XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX|uburep/pool/main/n/nagios-nrpe/nagios-nrpe-server_2.12-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb 1300155440|O|680100|XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX|uburep/pool/main/t/tzdata/tzdata_2011c-0ubuntu0.10.04_all.deb It shows the timestamp, direction (in or out), byte count, IP and filename. Every time a line is written to it, I'd like to also send that line to another program. I will have this program insert the line into a database so that I can crunch some statistics about how much bandwidth we're saving through operating a caching server. I do not want to cat the log file every X minutes (via cron) looking for new entries as it'd be somewhat computationally uneconomical. Instead I'd prefer to have a daemon monitor the log, and when a change is detected, each line is sent to my database-insertion script. Will swatch achieve this, or are there better options?

  • Linux (lsusb) not showing String Descriptors of a USB device

    - by tzippy
I have an embedded device that when plugged to a linux host, shows up with vid and pid that are not in the usb.ids file (proprietary IDs). However I provide String Descriptors that do show up when plugged into a Windows Host. But not on a Linux Host. lsusb -v shows only iManufacturer 3 iProduct 2 iSerial 1 But on the device side, when processing the setup requests, I see that the Strings are actually requested by the Host. By Windows and also the Linux Host. The USB Device Tree Viewwer under Windows shows this output: iManufacturer : 0x01 Language 0x0409 : "My Manufacturer" iProduct : 0x02 Language 0x0409 : "MyProduct" iSerialNumber : 0x03 Language 0x0409 : "My Serial" I feel that lsusb does not show all of the information. Is there a more informative tool?

  • WinXP: Error 1167 -- Device (LPT1) not connected

    - by Thomas Matthews
I am writing a program that opens LPT1 and writes a value to it. The WriteFile function is returning an error code of 1167, "The device is not connected". The Device Manager shows that LPT1 is present. I have a cable connected between a development board and the PC. The cable converts JTAG pin signals to signals on the parallel port. Power is applied and the cable is connected between the development board and the PC. The development board is powered on. I am using: Windows XP MS Visual Studio 2008, C language, console application, debug environment. Here is the relevant code fragments: HANDLE parallel_port_handle; void initializePort(void) { TCHAR * port_name = TEXT("LPT1:"); parallel_port_handle = CreateFile( port_name, GENERIC_READ | GENERIC_WRITE, 0, // must be opened with exclusive-access NULL, // default security attributes OPEN_EXISTING, // must use OPEN_EXISTING 0, // not overlapped I/O NULL // hTemplate must be NULL for comm devices ); if (parallel_port_handle == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { // Handle the error. printf ("CreateFile failed with error %d.\n", GetLastError()); Pause(); exit(1); } return; } void writePort( unsigned char a_ucPins, unsigned char a_ucValue ) { DWORD dwResult; if ( a_ucValue ) { g_siIspPins = (unsigned char) (a_ucPins | g_siIspPins); } else { g_siIspPins = (unsigned char) (~a_ucPins & g_siIspPins); } /* This is a sample code for Windows/DOS without Windows Driver. */ // _outp( g_usOutPort, g_siIspPins ); //---------------------------------------------------------------------- // For Windows XP and later //---------------------------------------------------------------------- if(!WriteFile (parallel_port_handle, &g_siIspPins, 1, &dwResult, NULL)) { printf("Could not write to LPT1 (error %d)\n", GetLastError()); Pause(); return; } } If you believe this should be posted on Stack Overflow, please migrate it over (thanks).

  • NetBSD Networking

    - by Mike
Hello, everyone! I have an old Toshiba Satellite 4015CDT, with Pentium II MMX, 32MB RAM, 4GB HDD. It also has one USB 1.0 port, parallel and serial ports, a 3.5" floppy drive and a CD-ROM drive (probably almost dead). I've installed NetBSD on this machine (full install) and now I want to connect it to the Internet. Although it has one PCMCIA modem card in it, it is obviously not an option. I've narrowed down my available options to the following: Connect a USB wireless adapter. I have a Realtek RTL8192 adapter, but although the system gives me the device's name (through dmesg) it fails to recognize it as a network adapter. Connect the laptop to another machine through a serial connection, so that the other machine will serve as a bridge to the Internet. Here is the page from the NetBSD documentation on serial connections. Unfortunately, I was not able to find anything on bridging there. I would very much appreciate your suggestions on the topic. Thanks in advance.

  • Easiest way to allow direct HTTPS connection in Intercept mode?

    - by Nick Lin
I know the SSL issue has been beaten to death I'm using DNS redirect to force my clients to use my intercept proxy. As we all know, intercepting HTTPS connection is not possible unless I provide a fake certificate. What I want to achieve here is to allow all HTTPS requests connect directly to the source server, thus bypassing Squid: HTTP connection Proxy by Squid HTTPS connection Bypass Squid and connect directly I spent the past few days goolging and trying different methods but none worked so far. I read about SSL tunneling using the CONNECT method but couldn't find any more information on it. I tried a similar method in using RINETD to forward all traffic going through port 443 of my Squid back to the original IP of www.pandora.com. Unfortunately, I did not realize all other HTTPS requests are also forwarded to the IP of www.pandora.com. For example, https://www.gmail.com also takes me to https://www.pandora.com Since I'm running the Intercept mode, the forwarding needs to be dynamic and match each HTTPS domain name with proper original IP. Can this be done in Squid or iptables? Lastly, I'm directing traffic to my Squid server using DNS zone redirect. For example, a client requests www.google.com, my DNS server directs that request to my Squid IP, then my transparent Squid will proxy that request. Will this set up affect what I'm trying to achieve? I tried many methods but couldn't get it to work. Any takes on how to do this?

  • LAN->LAN IP translation (for TortoiseSVN + Artifacts + Buffalo router)

    - by Armchair Bronco
Here's my scenario: I've got a VisualSVN server on my main dev box @ home. I'm also using Visual Studio 2010, TortoiseSVN, VisualSVN client (for source control), and Versioned 'Artifacts' (for bug tracking). (I had to modify the fake URL's below to use only one slash because as a new user, I can't post more than one real URL.) I've got my Buffalo AirStation WHR-HP-G300N router properly configured so my business partner can connect to the SVN server. I have port forwarding enabled for the internet-side IP address (like http:/99.888.77.66:443) which gets forwarded to an internal IP (like 192.168.11.6). This part is working great. The problem I'm having is with the integration piece between TortoiseSVN and my bug tracking system. I need to provide a bugtraq:url property, but I haven't been able to get relative paths to work. So I'm forced to use an absolute URL. On my end, I need to use the name of my server (for example: bugtraq:url = https:/my-server/svn/bla..), but this doesn't work for my partner. He needs to specify the IP address (for example: bugtraq:url = https:/999.888.77.66:443/svn/bla...) Is there a way to configure my router such that the IP address for this parameter gets re-routed/re-mapped to "https://my-server" if the request originates from the LAN itself? My router's software supports LAN-Internet and Internet-LAN, but I don't see LAN-LAN.

  • Trying to Set Up SSH Tunneling To MySQL Server for MySQL Query Browser

    - by Teno
I'm trying to set up SSH tunneling on a remote web server to another MySQL server so that the database can be browsed easily with MySQL Query Browser. I'm following this page but cannot connect to the MySQL server. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubuntu/access-your-mysql-server-remotely-over-ssh/ What I've done: logged in to the web server with Putty via SSH. typed ssh -L 33060:[database]:3306 [myusername]@[webserver_address] where [...]s are altered by the actual information. I was asked a password and typed it and got the following message. So it seems login was successful. socket: Protocol not supported Last login: .... 2012 from .... Copyright (c) 1980, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994 The Regents of the University of California. All rights reserved. FreeBSD 7.1-RELEASE.... Welcome to FreeBSD! Opened MySQL Query Browser in Windows and entered Server Host: localhost Port: 33060 UserName: myusername PassWord: mypassword And it says, Could not connect to the specified instance. MySQL Error Number 2003 Can't connect to MySQL Server on 'localhost' (10061) Sorry if this is too basic. Thanks for your information.

  • Apache2 - Hosting two sites on the same domain with different ports

    - by user1026361
I am hosting a staging site (test.mydomain.com) which currently work well on port 80 for two sites (test.mydomain.com and test.FRmydomain.com) I am working on a new backend and I would like to deploy a third site on this server for testing. My hope is that it will live at test.mydomain.com:4204. I've got some experience with apache and quickly added statements: Listen 4204 NameVirtualHost *:4204 and created a new config for my site. What I imagine are the relevant parts of my config: <VirtualHost *:4204 > ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName test.mydomain.com:4204 However, the site is not publicly available, by name or ip. If i curl localhost:4204 from the server, I get the expected page content At this point, I'm a bit of a loss on how to go forwards. It seems like my config is correct but not available to be served. Am I better off defining a proxy definition so that, for instance: test.mydomain.com/4204 proxies to my localhost server or is there a way to make the site available via the internet? EDIT: I have added an iptable rule after further Googling with the command: iptables -I INPUT -p tcp --dport 4204 -j ACCEPT I can see apache listening on 4204 and the rule is definitely in place but cant reach the site
