• setup test domain ready for site launch

  I'm about to launch a site on a live server, after developing it with xampp on localhost. I first want to test the site before i make it live. How do i setup this up so I have it in a subdomain (i.e. test.livesite.com)? Is it just set it up on the server and only add the cname dns setting? Or is there a better way? All i am trying to do is add my site to the server, so i can edit it and look at it before I set it as live.

• Maya and Game Engines (i.e. Environment Testing)

  What does it mean if I'm designing an environment and I want to test it in the game engine, to see what its like to "run" [or fly] around my environment? I heard an instructor say that exact thing in a Maya training video and I'd like to know more about "How Game Engines and Maya are related to each other." He stated this would be done to see how things look in "size" (e.g. I assume he meant: 'How big is the cathedral, bridge, wall, building, etc.'). I've tried to research such information but it's too complicated, and detailed. I just want a simplistic response to my query. Thanks to everyone willing to help and not criticize my question.

  Hi. I'm intending to get the certification but not completely sure how to time effectively prepare myself. So I'm wondering if I can be advised on the matter, in particular I would like next questions to be answered: - What the basic learning/practicing plan should look like? - What book (set of books) should be considered? - What practical exercises should be performed?   I have been working with a nice Gent but I am getting stuck. I am just getting back in to Linux and Ubuntu was recommended. I like the look so far but the wireless isn't working I run the update and when it says complete it hangs at the end. Please let me know what to do at this point. "wl: Running module version sanity check. - Original module - No original module exists within this kernel - Installation - Installing to /lib/modules/3.11.0-12-generic/updates/dkms/ depmod.... • No user/password boxes on login screen after updates today (June 30, 2012)

  Just installed today's batch of updates, including new kernel 3.2.0-26 and rebooted. Now the screen just has a logo in the middle and "Ubuntu 12.04 LTS" in bottom left corner, but no box to choose which user to log in as, or to enter a password. CTRL-ALT-F1 gets me to a "login:" prompt, and I can log in - but I have no idea what to look at to find out what is wrong, or to fix this. Tried older kernels and recovery mode for current kernel - no joy, still no way to log into the graphics console.

• Google web search shows dateCreated instead of dateModified metadata

  So today I discovered that the pages from my website are listed with an unexpected date value. I specify the schema.org properties dateCreated and dateModified for most of my content pages. I'd expect that search results show me when a page was last updated, to get a sense of the currency of the page. But it's showing the date of first publishing which may be years ago. That's a bit unsatisfying but I don't want to misuse the metadata because Google probably reads it wrong. Some search terms for you to try it out: "gitrevisiontool"; "easyxml"; "multiselecttreeview" (look for the results on dev.unclassified.de; the human- and machine-readable dates come at the end of the page) Does anybody know more about what's wrong here? Or does it work as designed? (What a stupid design that would be.)

• How to run 2 X sessions with different display managers?

  I read about the virtual terminals a little and that gave me an idea. I searched for a way to have two X sessions simultaneously. I had a look at these sites : 1. How to run multiple user X sessions on the same computer, at the same time? 2. How to drag windows between 2 X servers? I tried startx -- :1 but my earlier terminal (on Ctrl+Alt+F7) hung up. How do I ensure this does not happen? My main need is to get Unity on :0 and Gnome-shell on :1 and switch between them like workspaces. As per 2., switching is not recommended as it is not easy. But if I get at least 1., then I'd be happy. I have Ubuntu 12.04 64bit.

• How to get familiar with "what happens underneath of Java"?

  I did not study CS nor IT. I just became a developer, now working with Java. Actually, since I now work with a big company writing high-scalable web applications, I think I need to be better with details. I have no understanding of what happens underneath of Java. Java Performance, Server-Side Java might be the buzz words?!! I am very poor with those more of low-level details but I do not know where to look honestly. I started looking for some keywords in Amazon, ended up reading books like "pragmatic programmer", "clean code", "code complete" which IMO they are not what I am looking for. Could you please give me some learning resources (books, articles, blog posts, online trainings) for this matter? I also read this post as well: Approaching Java/JVM internals But I think I need a pre-step before jumping into the OpenJDK, right?!

  A couple of bits of news. I did a number of updates to the HackingSilverlightCodeBrowser here:http://www.hackingsilverlight.net/HackingSilverlightCodeBrowser.html including things like MEF and IsolatedStorage. • Running Mixed Physical and Virtual Exalogic Elastic Cloud Software Versions in an Exalogic Rack is now Supported

  Although it was not supported on older versions, now as of EECS 2.0.6, an Exalogic rack can be configured in a mixed-mode: half virtual and half physical Linux: Flexibility to have physical and virtual environments on same rack. For example, production on physical and test/dev on virtual. Exalogic Control manages the virtual compute nodes on the rack. Physical compute nodes are managed manually (including PKeys). Option to change full physical to hybrid and hybrid to full virtual rack. User has an option to choose either the top or bottom nodes for physical or virtual deployment. For further information about how the compute nodes can be split up on the rack (into bottom or top half) to run either Oracle Virtual Server (OVS "hypervisor") or Oracle Linux, please take a look at MOS Note 1536945.1. Note: Solaris is not yet supported in the mixed configuration.
