• Windows azure deployment

  I just built a simple hello world windows azure service containing just one web role, I used visual studio 2008 and Windows azure tools for VS 1.2 I am pretty new to this and I have been trying to deploy an application all afternoon now. I'm in australia and deploying in the region Asia anywhere. I have pretty much followed the info provided on MSDN and it says uploaded 95% then after about ten minutes the deployment disappears. I have tried using the old windows azure developer portal and 30minutes later I can not access the service and it's status is either busy or stopped. I have the introductory offer for an extra small compute instance on the subscription I am deploying to. Can anyone with experience with windows azure elaborate on the subject of deploying apps and the status on my application, I am very keen to get into the platform and this issue has just about spoiled my weekend.

  I have created an silverlight application (i have not selected my application to be hosted from another web application). Now I created a simple hello world page. I created virtual directory of my silverlight project in IIS for application hosting. 4. When I browse MainPage.xaml in loaclhost, it is not running. I think I shoul run the .xap file to host my application but I dont know haw??? OR Is it necessary to host a silverlight application from a .aspx page??

• Type-aware rendering (and editing) of tabular data in pyqt4

  I would like to have a very short / minimal example of how to create some tabular widget with different types of item in it. In the first round let's say I'd like to render [["Hello", 12, True], ["World", 13, False]] (Hello as string, 12 as number (right-align), True as a checkbox for eg.), but it would be nice to have Dates, Colors, and other type of info. Next round: editing (integer with spinbox, maybe sometimes a combobox is handy, but that may not work out of the box). There must be a simple solution, but I couldn't find...

• CaptureCameraDialog returns OK but does not save (Motorola ES400)

  Ok it seems like everyone in the world has issues with CaptureCameraDialog. In my case the result is OK, but when taking the photo there is a MessageBox that says "Error" that appears and disappears in the blink of an eye, then returns to my app (so I don't have time to actually read the error). It has not saved the file. It does not throw an error to my application. There is also another issue which is exactly the same as the issue talked about here (yet none of the fixes work for me). http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-4025602.php Does anyone know how to get the "error message" that the dialogue box displays for an instant?

• What is the best way to secure a shared git repo for a small distributed team ?

  We have a Scala project and we decided to use git. The problem is we are a very small distributed team and we want nobody outside of the team to have even the read only access to our git server (which has a valid IP and is world-accessible in the IP level). I have heard the git-daemon has no authentication mechanism by itself and you should somehow integrate it with ssh or something. What is the best (and easiest) way to make the git server respond only to authorized users ? Or perhaps git-daemon is not for this task ? I may add that I am looking for a simple and straightforward approach. I don't want to compete with github ;-)

• Can I change the database server and database a report is pointing to dynamically?

  I have a Crystal 2008 report that will be deployed to an InfoView server. There are four different databases the user might want to execute the report against. Each of the four databases have exactly the same schema. Only the data in each is different. Each database corresponds to a plant we have around the world. Instead of creating four different reports (each one connected to one of the four databases), am I able to dynamically change the server/database the report hits based on a value the user enters into a parameter? I'm really trying to avoid having to create four identical reports except for the database connection on each. If this isn't possible, how do developers typically deal with this sort of scenario? I would imagine it's fairly common. Thanks very much.

• Struts2 property tag escapeHtml is not working am I missing something?

  The following code is not working correctly. I would like to take the following Java String from the bean String statusMsg = "Hello World! <br/><br/><h3>Test</h3>" And output it with the HTML tags not escaped. <s:property escapeHtml="false" value="bean.statusMsg" The result of this property Tag and String, is that the HTML tags are still being escaped, am I missing something? My goal is to eventually build a table of status data and output it on the page is this the wrong way to use the property tag? Thank you in advance for your help.

  I'm currently a network engineer, but find myself wanting to get into the world of development. I took a little bit of Java in college, am 27 years old and have been network engineering for 4 years now. I have a mortgage and student loans so going back to school would be difficult. I'm willing to put in however much hardwork is needed around my full time job to learn, but part of me feels I may need actuall schooling to get down some of the advanced concepts. Just looking for a little advice and direction. I have purchased a bunch of the Head First programming books and have begun reading through some of them as I figure out my way into this transition.

• How can I create a custom cleanup mode for git?

  Git's default cleanup of strip removes all lines starting with a # character. Unfortunately, the Trac engine's wiki formatter uses hashes in the beginning of a code block to denote the syntax type. Additionally any code added verbatim might include hashes as they are a common comment prefix; Perl comes to mind. In the following example the comments all get destroyed by git's cleanup mode. Example: {{{ #!/usr/bin/perl use strict; # say hi to the user. print "hello world\n"; }}} I'd like to use a custom filter that removes all lines beginning with a hash from the bottom of the file upwards. Leaving those lines that being with a hash that are embedded in the commit message I wrote alone. Where or how can I specify this in git? Note, creating a sed or perl script to perform the operation is not a problem, just knowing where to hook it into git is the question.

• MVC framework for huge JEE application

  Which MVC-framework is the best option (performance/ease of development) for a web application, that will have + 2 million visits per week. Basically the site is a search engine,but also there will be large amounts of xml parsing, and high db traffic. We are using Java, over Jboss 4.2.3x, with PG as DB, and Solr for the searches. We were thinking on code JSPs with taglibs, and Servlets, but we were feeling like there would be a better alternative, which don't know yet, as we are starting on the Java Web applications world.   I am new to NOSQL world and still comparing between nosql and sql databases, I Just tried making few samples using mongodb. I am asking about stored procedures when we send few parameters to one stored procedure and this procedure execute number of other stored procedures in the database, will get data from stored procedures and send data to others. In other words, will make the logic happen on the database side using sequence of functions and stored procedures. Is that behavior or something the same already exist on NOSQL databases, or its completely different and i am thinking in the wrong way?

• Visual Studio 2008 compiles anything in C++ file?

  I noticed today that a source code file in a project was compiling even though it had junk at the top of it. It got me wondering what all would pass without error through the compiler. Here is an example of code that will not generate any error messages: what kind of weird behaviour is this??? #include "stdafx.h" // what is up? int foo(int bar) { bla bla bla????? return bar; } and more junk??? What in the world is the compiler doing to allow this code to compile without giving any error messages? I'm using Visual Studio 2008 and this is unmanaged C++ code. The foo function isn't actually generated in the object file so it can't be used but why no errors???

• The emulator isn't showing the XML contents

  I have been reading Google's android tutorial (link added in the first comment) and I got a problem... In the tutorial they explain the XML elements (EditText and Button) and in the end they say how to tun the program to see the button + the text field. The problem is, that the emulator doesn't show them.. just a black screen. I even tried adding this line to the onCreate function - System.out.println("Hello World!"); but still the emulator is showing only black screen..   i would like to convert the touch location as a world coordinate in my tile game. I would like to calculate the "real" coordinate of the touch, so that i know when the character has to keep going (click on the right of its actual position) or if he has to turn and go backwards. I've almost no friends that are experienced (or more experienced than me) programmers to learn from, so I am looking for the next best thing - learning from the work of strangers. Can anyone recommend a real world finished and working application written well and OOP-centered. I'd like to take and analyze its source. Bonus if it's based on Zend Framework. • Experiences with OpenLaszlo?

  In a related question, I asked about Web Development. I came across something called OpenLaszlo yesterday and thought it looked interesting for doing some website development. The site has a bunch of good information on it and they've got some nice tutorials and such, but being a total novice (as far as web development goes), I'm wondering whether anyone here would recommend this. As I stated in my other question, this is a new world for me and there are a lot of directions I could go. Can you compare/contrast this and other web development you've done? • Aren't passwords written in inputbox vulnerable through a stack trace ?

  Hello, I am not a guru of the stack tracing, at all. I even don't know how to get some. Anyway, I am wondering if entering a password entered in an inputbox is safe. Can't it be retrieved by getting a stack trace ? A password entered that way will be found in many places : Caption property of the TEdit Result of the function which creates the inputbox probably, a variable that stores the Result of the InputBox Command etc... If the answer is "yes, it is a vulnerability", then my world collapses :p. What can be done to avoid that vulnerability hole ? NOTE : The InputBox is an example but it can be with a "homebrewed" login prompt. InputBox is a Delphi command but I haven't tagged the question with the Delphi tag because I suppose that the question concerns any language. Thanks for reading

  I'm starting out in the world of SpecFlow and I have come across my first problem. In terms of keeping my code DRY I'd like to do the following: Have two scenarios: Given I am on a product page And myfield equals todays date Then... Given I am on a product page And myfield equals todays date plus 4 days Then... I was hoping to use the following Step Definition to cover both variants of my And clause: [Given(@"myfield equals todays date(?: (plus|minus) (\d+) days)?")] public void MyfieldEqualsTodaysDate(string direction, int? days) { //do stuff } However I keep getting exceptions when SpecFlow tries to parse the int? param. I've checked the regular expression and it definitely parses the scenario as expected. I'm aware that I could so something as crude as method overloading etc, I was just wondering if SpecFlow supported the idea of default parameter values, or indeed another way to achieve the same effect.
