• sIFR in Javascript news rotator?

  Hi everyone, I'm using sIFR on a website that is database driven and it works great. However, I have a news rotator on the home page and sIFR won't replace the text on the tile below the rotating image, so I have to create images for this each time. Example of the site is http://www.aucklandcityfc.com. Put home.asp on the end of the URL to see what it looks like trying to run sIFR by default. What I'd like to be able to do is use sIFR to replace that text as well, and then other people can add stories through the CMS. Alternatively, if there's a better rotator (or possibly a Flash application) that anyone knows of, please let me know. Thanks, Adam

• Drag Rotate UIImageView by touch

  I have an UIImageView that is a subview of an UIView. I'm trying to create a drag rotate effect with the UIImageView similar to spinning a bottle but I'm having trouble calculating the radians to rotate the image by. My code below seems like it should work because I've seen a similar calculation in Flash examples. Can anyone shed some light on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks. • Which one should I choose AMQP or XMPP for real-time browser-based game?

  Hi, I'm choosing between AMQP (RabbitMQ) vs XMPP (eJabberd) for my browser-based flash-free javascript powered real-time turn-based game. I don't know much about AMQP and XMPP protocol. I would like to use PHP for user-authorization and some data store-retrieve with MySQL. As far as I found out, RabbitMQ has PHP clients but eJabberd not. What I understood is javascript client calls PHP script and manipulate necessary processing and then pass to AMQP or XMPP server to pass the data to opponent player. There is a good book 'Pro XMPP Programming with JS and jQuery' from Wrox but there is no example with PHP. So following are my questions. 1) Which protocol is suit for my game? 2) Shall I choose RabbitMQ just for it's PHP client support?

  I am trying to upload multiple files into a SharePoint LIST as attachments. (can't use Document Libraries). I'm trying to use jquery to accomplish this but I'd appreciate any help or advise you may have concerning how best to upload to a list. For instance, can multi-uploads be accomplished when creating a new item? If you have code or examples/url's I can refer to I would welcome that. Cheers. PS - I need to select multiple files to upload at one go too...I know you can do this with flash-uploaders but can this be done for ASP.NET and specifically for SharePoint?

• Is there a way to programatically popup the "Microsoft Silverlight Configuration" dialog?

  I am building for Silverlight 4, and I handle MouseRightButtonDown events and build my own ContextMenu's (a class from the Silverlight Toolkit). I would like to add the classic "Silverlight" menu item to my menus, and give the user the familiar option of launching the "Microsoft Silverlight Configuration" dialog. This is the dialog lets users manage Updates, Webcams, Permissions, and Application Storage. So I need a way to programatically launch the dialog when the menu item is clicked. I can be done for Flash, and it would seem that Microsoft would want to encourage developers to support that option. Can it be done?

• Fixed header and footers gotchas and suggestion

  I am planning to revamp my blog layout and this time I plan to have position: fixed headers and footers, both will be ~40px tall. The header will contain the logo and search buttons, the footer is going to contain lots of items such as subscribe buttons, related posts, jump to top/comments/bottom buttons and so on (list is not finalized). Before I jump into this I am wondering if someone can tell me if its a good idea or not. And I'd also appreciate if you can point out best-practices and gotchas. The footer will contain facebook chat style popup for related posts and some other features so I am also wondering if its going to work with this layout. There will be ads too so this leaves me worrying if its possible to have a the header laying on top of ads (specially flash ads). Links to sample layouts will be appreciated.

  so, i'm trying to learn ruby by doing some project euler questions, and i've run into a couple things i can't explain, and the comma ?operator? is in the middle of both. i haven't been able to find good documentation for this, maybe i'm just not using the google as I should, but good ruby documentation seems a little sparse . . . 1: how do you describe how this is working? the first snippet is the ruby code i don't understand, the second is the code i wrote that does the same thing only after painstakingly tracing the first: #what is this doing? cur, nxt = nxt, cur + nxt #this, apparently, but how to describe the above? nxt = cur + nxt cur = nxt - cur 2: in the following example, how do you describe what the line with 'step' is doing? from what i can gather, the step command works like (range).step(step_size), but this seems to be doing (starting_point).step(ending_point, step_size). • What language/API to use for a standalone live-input audio visualizer app?

  I develop with Actionscript and was glad to see that AIR 2.0 was going to give access to mic input data. I planned to use this to create a visualizer set to the tempo of the incoming live audio. After doing a few days of google research it seems unlikely that it will be possible to analyze the data of the mic input in Flash/AIR. If anyone has ideas on how I can achieve this in AIR please let me know. (I'm open to workarounds.) That being said, I don't want to give up on the idea so I'm interested in suggestions for other language/API to use. My requirements for the app are: Run on OSX Two windows - one that can go fullscreen while the other(controller GUI) stays put Able to access live mic input data I've done reading on FFT and understand what needs to be done on the sound side so no need to help with that.

• Problem Loading AS2 swf into AS3 swf

  I've been trying very hard to get an AS2 swf to load properly inside an AS3 swf - but to no avail ... The AS2 file (which is a rather big app referencing many external xml files etc.) works perfectly when launched in Flash Player. When trying to load the same file through an AS3 swf (using URLRequest and Loader classes), the file starts loading but stops abruptly during the preloading phase. (Same happens if I try to load it using AS2 "loadMovie".) What is there more to try? Security settings, custom loader classes - any advice is appreciated.

• jPlayer problem in Firefox - also throws error from jQuery?! Not related to OGG support.

  I've been working on a small SVG website, http://docroot.ca/ - the SVG part has been working out pretty well. In the current site, jPlayer is called and given an mp3. jPlayer functions properly in Safari, Chrome, and Opera, but not Firefox which throws the following two errors: Error: not well-formed Source File: Line: 1, Column: 191 Source Code: <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><embed name="jqjp_flash_0" id="jqjp_flash_0" src="js/Jplayer.swf" width="0" height="0" bgcolor="#ffffff" quality="high" FlashVars="id=jPlayerBox&fid=jqjp_flash_0&vol=80" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /></ and: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... • Actionscript 3 : XML cached in local testing

  Hi, My question is about XML loading. I need to avoid xml caching. On a web server, the technique is adding a random param to reload each time the XML file. But on local testing (in Flash CS4 IDE, CTRL + Enter), the following lines are not possible : var my_date : Date; path = "toto.xml?time="+my_date.getSeconds()+my_date.getMilliseconds(); Is there any trick to bypass this issue ? I've read on different forum about the "delete" method, we delete the xml object and then recreate one new. In my case, I put : myXML = null; myXML = new XML ( loadedData ); But it doesn't work at all. I spent many hours on that problem, if anyone has a good solution... Thank you.

  Hello All, I have a 32bit iMac that I am writing an iPhone app in Xcode with, and I was wondering if I saved my project to a flash drive and dropped it on my MacBookPro which is 64 bit and continued to code the iPhone project on my laptop in Xcode would this cause a problem? I don't see how it would since the target is not for either of those computers, but I thought I would ask since I would like to work on the project when I am not always around my iMac. • Android: Create TextView that flashes when clicked

  How do I set up a TextView to flash when it is clicked? I essentially want one of the objects that is displayed in a ListActivity, but inside a normal View. I have tried to do this by adding an OnClickListener, but what I really need is something like adding an On(Un)SelectListener. Using the onClickListener, I can change the TextView background, but obviously the background stays that color. I thought of using a new Handler().postDelayed(new Runnable(){ ... }) kind of thing to reset the backround after some small time, but I did not know if this would be overkill for what I'm trying to do. What would you recommend?

I'm trying a Haxe-compiled solution called FAR (Flash Archiver) created by Edwin Van Rijkom (http://code.google.com/p/vanrijkom-flashlibs/) wich uses a command-line tool for creating compressed archives. When running the FAR tool locally on my ubuntu laptop, everything works fine. When running remotely (terminal as Root) on my Ubuntu and Debian servers, it gives the following error: Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: I've tried to reach Edvin about this, but no response so far. Maybe it has something to do with installation or user rights on the server? Any clue?

• How do I properly load the jQuery fullcalendar plugin in a hidden div

  I'm using the jQuery tools tabs to divide my page into tabs. One of those tabs contain a jQuery Fullcalendar. Because I load JavaScript last in the page for speed and to avoid flash of unstyled content, I hide the initially unseen tabs using display:none. When doing this, the fullcalendar doesn't render properly. It shows the proper buttons, but until I press the today-button, no calendar is shown. If I allow it to render into a visible div, it displays properly. I can work around this using the tab-select events to render the calendar or by moving the calendar and tab scripts to the head, but I'd rather if there was a more proper solution.

• error opening sql 2005 database in VS 2008

  When I created my database using sql server 2005, i was able to connect and view it in Visual Studio 2008. I then detached the database onto my flash drive. Brought it home to work in VS 2008 - that worked. finally when i detached it from home and brought back to work, it will not open. It is saying that this version of sql server is not compatible with another version. I forget the exact wording of the error, as it was lengthy. any help you guys and provide would be very helpful!   Hi all, I'm on a verge of quitting my current job as a .NET programmer. i'm 25 years old and have been a .NET programmer in the past 5-6 years, but now i wonder if maybe i should take this opurtunity and try some other things, like RT\Embedded or Driver development. My pro\cons: i love .NET since you can write enterprise systems with it, learn cool development methodologies and practice many patterns i want to learn RT\Embedded\Driver since its at the heart of so many things and i'm feeling this is a black hole for me. My question are: Is making career leaps a good idea? How can i manage to get myself into a job in RT\Embedded as my whole Resume has c# written all over it. What should i bet my cards on this days? android? java? flash? silverlight? etc?

• PDF to PNG Processor - Paperclip

  I am trying to develop a system in which a user can upload a slideshow (pdf) and it'll export each slide as a png. After some digging around I came across a post on here that suggested using a processor. I've had a go, but I cant get the command to run, if it is running then I don't know what is happening because no errors are being shown. • Recommendations for a google finance-like interactive chart control

  I need some sort of interactive chart control for my .NET-based web app. I have some wide XY charts, and the user should be able to interactively scroll and zoom into a specific window on the x axis. Something that acts similar to the google finance control would be nice, but without the need for the date labels or the news event annotations. Also, I'd prefer to avoid Flash, if that's even possible. Can someone please give some recommendations of something that might come close? EDIT: the "real" google timeline visualization is for date-based data. I just have numeric data. I tried to use that control for non-date data, but it seems to always want to show a date and demands that the first data column actually be a date.

• PHP or Javascript or other - Draw simple shapes onto images?

  I basically have an image of a world map and i would like to place a pin image at a specified pixel co-ordinate ontop of this world map image. It's for a website, so ideally the solution should be in PHP or Javascript (i'm avoiding Java and Flash as i want it to be as simple as possible). I had a look at the processing.js library but it is way to big and bloated for just performing this simple task. Is there a pre-existing Javascript function which will allow me to do this? Or a more simple javascript library that i can use? (processing.js was a bit too advanced for me, i couldnt get it working lol) In terms of a PHP solution, i would prefer taking the load off the server and onto the client for this task, but i would still like to hear methods for doing it in PHP if they are suitable. • Regexp to extract sources from different video embeds

  My SMF forum contains posts with video and I want to extract them to show on the Wordpress main page. My current regexp (thanks to SO!) extracts the url of the videos, which I embed using AutoEmbed. Everything works up until a post looks like this: <embed height="600" width="600" allowscriptaccess="never" quality="high" loop="true" play="true" src="http://mmavlog.net/embed/player.swf?file=http://video.ufc.tv/CSG/UFC113/20100507_ufc113_weigh_in_400k.flv" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> Here is my current regexp: $regexp = "/\b(?:(?:https?|ftp):\/\/|www\.)[-a-z0-9+&@#\/%?=~_|!:,.;]*[-a-z0-9+&@#\/%=~_|]/i"; Since the posts can contain <embed> or <object> I realize that looking for the url by the "http" might be inaccurate. How can I use the regexp to look for "src=" for <embed> and "data=" for <object>?
