• Potential problems porting to different architectures

  I'm writing a Linux program that currently compiles and works fine on x86 and x86_64, and now I'm wondering if there's anything special I'll need to do to make it work on other architectures. What I've heard is that for cross platform code I should: Don't assume anything about the size of a pointer, int or size_t Don't make assumptions about byte order (I don't do any bit shifting -- I assume gcc will optimize my power of two multiplication/division for me) Don't use assembly blocks (obvious) Make sure your libraries work (I'm using SQLite, libcurl and Boost, which all seem pretty cross-platform) Is there anything else I need to worry about? I'm not currently targeting any other architectures, but I expect to support ARM at some point, and I figure I might as well make it work on any architecture if I can. Also, regarding my second point about byte order, do I need to do anything special with text input? I read files with getline(), so it seems like that should be done automatically as well.

How would you do this? I can't depend on the date/time as this is a login report that is constantly getting updated - all I want is to ensure that the last line ends with that email address. And I can't figure out how to do it using Selenium expressions, DOM, or XPath.

• thumbs.db messing up my upload routine

  I'm getting the following error while uploading a zip archive. Warning: ZipArchive::extractTo(C:\xampplite\htdocs\testsite/wp-content/themes/mytheme//styles\mytheme/Thumbs.db) [ziparchive.extractto]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in C:\xampplite\htdocs\testsite\wp-content\themes\mythem\uploader.php on line 17 The thing I can't quite figure is that I don't see a thumbs.db file in either the zip archive or the destination folder that was created (the upload still processes, I just get these errors). • Size SKU in Magento

  Hi, How can I allow SKU be longer than 34 characters (for simple products) for all products? When i add new product(simple) and enter more than 34 characters, Magento cuts it to 34 after saving. In the database the 'sku' attributes ( for quete item,order item,invoice item, shipment item) from eav_attribute table hold varchar(255). For Catalog_Product_Entity the attributed is VarChar(64). In either case, it is more than 34characters. Thus, I could change SKU to 64 characters without making any change in database, correct? How do i do that? I have good understanding of the user side magento code, but not Admin side. Can you suggest me good tutorial on making changes in Admin side that could help me figure this question myself. • How can I possibly sort this in JavaScript?

  I've been pounding my head on the wall trying to figure out how to sort this in JavaScript (I have to work with it in this format unfortunately). I need to sort it based on Small, Medium, Large, XL, XXL (Small ranking the highest) in each variationValues size field. • Is there an algorithm for determining how much daylight there is?

  Is there a function/algorithm that allows me to input the latitude and the approximate orbital position of the earth in so that I can determine how long the sun is up? IE during the winter it would show that the sun is only up a few hours in the far north hemisphere. I did some basic Google search and didn't find much so I was thinking that I might have to do some trigonometry that would allow me to calculate how much the earth is inclined or not toward the sun then use that information along with the latitude to figure out how much sunshine a site would be getting.

  Hi all. I'm trying to get the green box that appears on the second click of a tri-state checkbox to be red, and also to fill up the box. I gave the key of the Party object as a parameter to the "partyKey" named parameter. The model is like this: Party has multiple Participants. I want to query a participant based on the party and the name of the participant. I just can't figure out how to filter using the party. What options do I have?

  I have some legacy python scripts that manage my shell environment for all the programs and plugins I am running on Linux (bash) and windows (cmd.exe). I want to port this to powershell. How do I set environment variables in powershell by calling python script that prints $env:myVar=myvalue and causes my environment variable to persist in the powershell. In Bash I can use a bash function to call my python script which prints export var=value to stdout and the function will set the environment variables in my shell. This will also work in windows cmd shell by calling a .bat file. I cannot figure out how to do this in powershell. I think it should be something like this: setvar.ps1: function SETVAR {c:\python26\python.exe varconfig.py } varconfig.py: import sys print >> sys.stdout, '$env:myVar=foo'

  Hello everyone I'm trying to learn Haskell and want to write a small program which prints the content of a file to the screen. When I load it into GHCi I get the following error: The last statement in a 'do' construct must be an expression I know this question has be asked already here: Haskell — “The last statement in a 'do' construct must be an expression”. Even though my code is very similar I still can't figure out the problem. • Having to keep on restarting the Application Pool?

  One of our major websites (built on PHP, MSSQL, IIS7) has started to become unresponsive every few hours and I'm having to log on to the server and restart the application pool. The rest of the websites on the server are fine, so I figure it may be due to a code problem? Whilst I look over all the code, specifically the database connections, would anyone have any advice on how I could better track this down to what is actually causing it to become unresponsive? By "unresponsive" I mean when you enter the URL it doesn't resolve and times out. Thanks for any help, Steven.

• Method of documentation for SQL Stored Procedures

  I work in a location where a single person is responsible for creating and maintaining all stored procedures for SQL servers, and is the conduit between software developers and the database. There are a lot of stored procedures in place, and with a database diagram it is simple enough 90% of the time to figure out what the stored procedure needs for arguments/returns as output. For the other 10% of the time, however, it would be helpful to have a reference. Since the DBA is a busy guy (aren't we all), it would be good to have some program which documents the stored procedures to a file so that the developers can see it without being able to access the SPs themselves. The question is, does anyone know of a good program to accomplish this? Basically what we need is something that gives the name of the SP, the argument list and the output, both with datatypes and a nullable flag.

  I have a table where I keep all my templates: templates template_id template_name template_price These templates can be purchased by a registered user and then are inserted in the payments table: payments payment_id template_id user_id Is there a way to join these two tables and get not just a list of templates that have been purchased by a certain user, but all the templates? And then figure out from there which ones have already been purchased? I used this SELECT, but only the ones that the user bought showed up. I would like to have all the rows from templates, but empty in case the user_id doesn't match.   I have been searching all day and reading many tutorials and still I am confused. I am working on a project that has the following requirements as specified by the client (customer - not to be confused with client app): Connect to a remote server and verify that connection was successful. Connect to Web service on said server via SOAP. Authenticate with service using public key encryption Upon successful authentication, push a list of products and categories to a MSSQL database on remote server via the Web service. The client is a Winforms application written in C#. So far, I have created a WCF Service Application with separate services for the products and categories but I cannot figure the rest out. Can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial or tutorials that cover these requirements? Many thanks in advance! Joe

  I'd like to take an object like this: SortedList<string, SortedList<int, SortedList<DateTime, double>>> Data and, for a given 'int' value (key of first nested sorted list), restructure it like this: SortedList<DateTime, SortedList<string, double>> or, better yet, this: SortedList<DateTime, double[]> where each 'double[]' has as many elements as there are KeyValue pairs in the SortedList. I'm guessing Linq is the way to go, but can't figure it out. Thanks for any suggestions.

  I'm using the module pattern, one of the things I want to do is dynamically include an external JavaScript file, execute the file, and then use the functions/variables in the file in the return { } of my module. I can't figure out how to do this easily. • Why does php show error for my SQL query

  UPDATE: My mistake - I made a typo. Nevermind this question. I'm using php to update a mysql database. The resultant query I'm using when i print it out on my webpage before executing is as follows: INSERT INTO perch2_content_items (itemOrder, regionID, pageID, itemRev, itemID, itemJSON, itemSearch ) SELECT MAX(itemOrder)+1, 105, 81, 11, 118, 'json', 'search' FROM perch2_content_items WHERE regionID=105 When I copy and paste this query directly into the phpmyadmin SQL interface, it works fine. The table gets updated.   Okay, I know I must be doing something incredibly stupid here. Here's the sample code (which, when executed within a viewDidLoad block silently crashes... no error output to debug console). Oh... and in case anyone is wondering, this code is just me trying to figure out why I can't get the count of an NSMutableArray that actually matters somewhere else in the program.

• How to profile object creation in Java?

  The system I work with is creating a whole lot of objects and garbage collecting them all the time which results in a very steeply jagged graph of heap consumption. I would like to know which objects are being generated to tune the code, but I can't figure out a way to dump the heap at the moment the garbage collection starts. When I tried to initiate dumpHeap via JConsole manually at random times, I always got results after GC finished its run, and didn't get any useful data. Any notes on how to track down excessive temporary object creation are welcome.

• How to change the color of the navigation bar in more than one table view controller

  I am trying to figure out how to change the color of the table view navigation bar in multiple table views. The table views are all connected to a navigation controller. For example, I want one navigation bar to be blue, but another to be red. I have tried the code below in the AppDelegate.m file, but it just changes all the navigation bars to the same color. Is there anywhere else I could place this code to change the color in specific places. I've heard that I need to create new files, but I don't know where to place the code, or what code to use in the new files. I am somewhat new to this.   I have two classes, derivedClassA and derivedClassB which both extend parentClass I'm declaring var o:parentClass and then, depending on what's going on, I want to cast o as either being of type derivedClassA or derivedClassB. Essentially, this: var o:parentClass ... if(shouldUseA) o = new derivedClassA(); else o = new derivedClassB(); o.doSomething(); But it's not working, I'm getting all sorts of errors. Isn't this how class inheritance works? I feel like I'm missing something really fundamental, but I can't figure out what. Am I supposed to be using interfaces instead? Is there another way of doing what I want?

• HTTP POSTed files automatically uploaded to root directory

  I just inherited an ASP.NET WebForms web application that I was tasked with refactoring. One of the features is a file upload and while debugging I noticed that as soon as a file is posted to a certain page/handler, it is automatically uploaded to the root directory of the application. The file is then moved to the proper location. I can't seem to figure out whats causing this automatic upload of the file. Is there something I'am overlooking in ASP.NET WebForms that allows this to happen? Is it an IIS configuration or something?

• How to create a language these days?

  I need to get around to writing that programming language I've been meaning to write. How do you kids do it these days? I've been out of the loop for over a decade; are you doing it any differently now than we did back in the pre-internet, pre-windows days? You know, back when "real" coders coded in C, used the command line, and quibbled over which shell was superior? Just to clarify, I mean, not how do you DESIGN a language (that I can figure out fairly easily) but how do you build the compiler and standard libraries and so forth? What tools do you kids use these days?
