    I have a UnitOfWork/Service pattern where I populate my model using NHibernate before sending it to the view. For some reason I still get the YSOD, and I don't understand why the object collection is not already populated.     I'm working on ASP.net MVC3 Web application that is facing scalability issue. For improving performance I want to store dynamically generated pages in html and serve them from generated html directly rather then querying database for each page request. I'm sure this will dramatically increase performance. Can any one share any hint / example / tutorial on how to do it? And what are challenges? I would also like to know how others are handling performance issue for large e-commerce sites with at-least thousand categories and 200k products with at least 200-500 concurrent visitors? What are the best approaches? Thanks in advance.

  • apache tiles ordering problem

    I have a problem with the order of rendering tiles. The menu gets rendered first and then the body of our webpage gets rendered. Each tile has it`s own controller that handles everything that tile needs to do. There are two forms. One in the menu and one in the body. Each one changes something in the menu and in the body. The problem is that if a form in the body changes something the menu gets rendered first and then the body controller handles form things and puts data to session, but menu is already done and the session was empty. I cant turn body and menu around becaouse there are other forms that work the other way around. How to deal with this problem? I do want every tile to have its own controller that deals with everything that tile does.

  • MVC4 - how to vaildate a drop down list?

    I have a .Net MVC4 model / view with a number of [Required] fields, one of which is selected via a drop down list, "Content_CreatedBy" [the first code block below]. Client side validation fires on all fields except the DDL [although server side validation does not allow no entry in DDL]. I have tried validating on the DDL text as well its numeric value but niether fire on the client side. Can anyone see what I am doing wrong?     I need to display uploaded files on a web application, the flow is as follows User uploads file through web UI Validation on image Makes call to imageRepository.store( uploadedImage, user.getSite() ) The user wants the image displayed which adds <img src="${anUploadedImage.getUrl()}"/> but that is where I'm stuck, what can getUrl() do? The simple solution is to put it someplace and let Apache serve the file, but then I can't use the application to ensure that one user isn't modifying the URL to view other users files, which in this case is important

    I see a lot of exampls of how to use StructureMap in a asp.net project like this: StructureMapConfiguration.ForRequestedType<IResourceA>() .TheDefaultIsConcreteType<ResourceB>() .CacheBy(InstanceScope.Singleton); Yet, in my Global.asax I can not access the StructureMapConfiguration object even when I import the StructureMap namespace. What is the deal here? Am I missing something?

    I have deployed one web project into Azure emulator. And I get this error saying that Could not load file or assembly Base. The thing is that this web project, got dependencies to another project in the same solution. I have added that dependency into the reference list of my web project. And if I run this web application without using the azure emulator it will run fine. But I will get error when I try to run it on the azure emulator. At first glance I thought that I maybe need to add the other project as role also. But it couldn't be that. Anyone know what the problem might be? I hope I got enough data for you to look into.   • Bad practice to have models made up of other models?

My thought was I could create Model B and Model C and have Model A be a composite with a Model B property and a Model C property.   • What's the best way to refactor this Rails controller?

    I'd like some advice on how to best refactor this controller. The controller builds a page of zones and modules. Page has_many zones, zone has_many modules. So zones are just a cluster of modules wrapped in a container. The problem I'm having is that some modules may have some specific queries that I don't want executed on every page, so I've had to add conditions. The conditions just test if the module is on the page, if it is the query is executed. One of the problems with this is if I add a hundred special module queries, the controller has to iterate through each one. I think I would like to see these module condition moved out of the controller as well as all the additional custom actions.   • Comparing lists of objects and update

    I have a view, passing a LIST of Originals to this method. Before the post happened, i changed some of the properties. I now receive the updated list as a parameter in my method and would like to update the database with these new values. [HttpPost] public ActionResult NewValue(Page model) { var ListOfOriginals = Session.Query<Original>().ToList(); //GETS the objects i want to update listOfOriginals = Model.Pages // Model.page is the new list containing the updated values RavenSession.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } When i debug, i can see that listOfOriginals gets the new values. The problem is that i dont know how to update the RavenDB whith these new values. I tried adding this: Session.Store(listOfOriginals) before the SaveChanges() but that resulted in an error. Maybe there is a much better way of doing this?

  • Conditionally embed ASP.NET MVC2 Views as resources during build in Visual Studio 2010

    I have a ASP.NET MVC2 project in VS2010 that can be deployed in two modes: standalone or plugin. In standalone mode, the views should live outside the compiled assembly as .aspx files (the default setup). In plugin mode, the views are switched (currently by hand) to embedded resources and the entire assembly is dropped into a host project folder. Currently, this requires the developer to go through each view and switch it from Build Action: "Content" to "Embedded Resource" and vice versa. I would like to create a new solution configuration to automatically grab all .aspx files and build them as resources. This SO post seems like the solution, but I would prefer not to have to edit the .csproj every single time I add a new view to the project. Is there a way to use a wild cards or some other batch/global conditionally statement to change resources from content to embedded?

    Hi, I have a news table and I would like to implement custom ordering. I have done this before via a positional mapping table which has newsIds and a position. I then LEFT OUTER JOIN the position table ON news.newsId = position.itemId with a select case statement CASE WHEN [position] IS NULL THEN 9999 ELSE [position] END and order by position asc, articleDate desc. Now I am trying to do the same with Linq to Entities. I have set up my tables with a PK, FK relationship so that my News object has an Entity Collection of positions. Now comes the bit I can't work out. How to implement the LEFT OUTER JOIN. I have so far: var query = SelectMany (n => n.Positions, (n, s) => new { n, s }) .OrderBy(x => x.s.position) .ThenByDescending(x => x.n.articleDate) .Select(x => x.n); This kinda works. However this uses a INNER JOIN so not what I am after. I had another idea: ret = ret.OrderBy(n => n.ShufflePositions.Select(s => s.position)); However I get the error DbSortClause expressions must have a type that is order comparable. I also tried ret = ret.GroupJoin(tse.ShufflePositions, n => n.id, s => s.itemId, (n, s) => new { n, s }) .OrderBy(x => x.s.Select(z => z.position)) .ThenByDescending(x => x.n.articleDate) .Select(x => x.n); but I get the same error! If anyone can help me out, it would be much appreciated!

    I'm iterating through a collection on my view model. The collection contains HealthLifeDentalRates which implement IBeginsEnds. I have a Display Template BeginsEnds that displays the date range. This results in very slow performance. If I simply the date range (see commented code), it's fine.   • DotNetOpenAuth / WebSecurity Basic Info Exchange

    I've gotten a good number of OAuth logins working on my site now. My implementation is based on the WebSecurity classes with amends to the code to suit my needs (I pulled the WebSecurity source into mine). However I'm now facing a new set of problems. In my application I have opted to make the user email address the login identifier of choice. It's naturally unique and suits this use case. However, the OAuth "standards" strikes again. Some providers will return your email address as "username" (Google) some will return the display name (Facebook). As it stands I see to options given my particular scenario: Option 1 Pull even more framework source code into my solution until I can chase down where the OpenIdRelyingParty class is actually interacted with (via the DotNetOpenAuth.AspNet facade) and make addition information requests from the OpenID Providers. Option 2 When a user first logs in using an OpenID provider I can display a kind of "complete registration" form that requests missing info based on the provider selected.* Option 2 is the most immediate and probably the quickest to implement but also includes some code smells through having to do something different based on the provider selected. Option 1 will take longer but will ultimately make things more future proof. I will need to perform richer interactions down the line so this also has an edge in that regard. The more I get into the code it does seem that the WebSecurity class itself is actually very limiting as it hides lots of useful DotNetOpenAuth functionality in the name of making integration easier. Andrew (the author of DNOA) has said that the Attribute Exchange stuff happens in the OpenIdRelyingParty class but I cannot see from the DotNetOpenAuth.AspNet source code where this class is used so I'm unsure of what source would need to be pulled into my code in order to enable the functionality I need. Has anyone completely something similar?

    I have a similar concept to the SO questions/tags scenario however am trying to decide the best way of implementation. Tables Questions, QuestionTags and Tags Questions QuestionTags Tags --------- ------------ ---- QID QID TID QName TID TName When adding/updating a question I have 2 textboxes. The important part is a single textbox that allows users to enter in multiple Tags separated by spaces. I am using Linq2Sql so the Questions model has an EntitySet of QuestionTags with then link to Tags. My question is regarding the adding/updating of Questions (part 1), and also how to best show QuestionTags for a Question (part 2). Part 1 Before performing an add/update, my service layer needs to deal with 3 scenarios before passing to their respective repositories. Insert Tags that do not already exist Insert/Update Question Insert QuestionTags - when updating need to remove existing QuestionTags Here is my code below however started to get into a bit of a muddle. For example, I have an Index view that shows a list of Questions in a table. One of the columns shows an image and when the user hovers over it shows the list of Tags. My current implementation is to create a custom ViewModel and show a List of QuestionIndexViewModel in the View. QuestionIndexViewModel { Question Question { get; set; } string Tags { get; set; } } However, this seems a bit clumsy and quite a few DB calls. public ViewResult Index() { var model= new List<QuestionIndexViewModel>(); //make a call to get a list of questions //foreach question make a call to get their QuestionTags, //to be able to get their Tag names and then join them //to form a single string. return View(model); } Also, just for test purposes using SQL Profiler, I decided to iterate through the QuestionTags entity set of a Question in my ViewModel however nothing was picked up in Profiler?
