• DRY for JMeter tests

  Is there a way to modularize JMeter tests. I have recorded several use cases for our application. Each of them is in a separate thread group in the same test plan. To control the workflow I wrote some primitives (e.g. postprocessor elements) that are used in many of these thread groups. Is there a way not to copy these elements into each thread group but to use some kind of referencing within the same test plan? What would also be helpful is a way to reference elements from a different file. Does anybody have any solutions or workarounds. I guess I am not the only one trying to follow the DRY principle...

• Android and Protocol Buffers

  I am writing an Android application that would both store data and communicate with a server using protocol buffers. However, the stock implementation of protocol buffers compiled with the LITE flag (in both the JAR library and the generated .java files) has an overhead of ~30 KB, where the program itself is only ~30 KB. In other words, protocol buffers doubled the program size. Searching online, I found a reference to an Android specific implementation. Unfortunately, there seems to be no documentation for it, and the code generated from the standard .proto file is incompatible with it. Has anyone used it? How do I generate code from a .proto file for this implementation? Are there any other lightweight alternatives?

• Debugging Visual Studio 2010 Unit Test and WCF Service in one IDE instance

  I have created a WCF service in Visual Studio 2010 along with some supporting assemblies. I have also created a test project which contains multiple unit tests for the service and the supporting assemblies. Right now I have them all in one solution with the Test project having a service reference (http) to the WCF service. If I debug the WCF service and select "Run checked tests" in a Test List I created, I can debug the WCF service without a problem. Note: I cannot select Debug Checked Tests while debugging the WCF service. (Because the IDE is already debugging?) If I open the Test project in another instance of VS 2010, debug the WCF service and then select "Debug Checked Tests" - I can debug both my tests and the WCF service. However - I would like to (and my question is) be able to debug my tests and my service in a single IDE. Is this possible?

  I have the following tables in the database: teams: id name matches: id team1_id team2_id I've defined the following ORM models in my Kohana application: class Match_Model extends ORM { protected $belongs_to = array('team1_id' => 'team', 'team2_id' => 'team'); } class Team_Model extends ORM { protected $has_many = array('matches'); } The following code in a controller: $match = ORM::factory('match',1); echo $match->team1_id->name; /* <-- */ Is throwing the following error on the linke marked with /* <--- */: Trying to get property of non-object The framework is yielding the value of the foreign key instead of a reference to a Match_Model instance as it should (giving the has_many and belongs_to properties stated). Am I missing something? Note: Just in case, I've added the irregular plural 'match' => 'matches' in application/config/inflector.php

• Why can't I declare C# methods virtual and static?

  I have a helper class that is just a bunch of static methods and would like to subclass the helper class. Some behavior is unique depending on the subclass so I would like to call a virtual method from the base class, but since all the methods are static I can't create a plain virtual method (need object reference in order to access virtual method). Is there any way around this? I guess I could use a singleton.. HelperClass.Instance.HelperMethod() isn't so much worse than HelperClass.HelperMethod(). Brownie points for anyone that can point out some languages that support virtual static methods. Edit: OK yeah I'm crazy. Google search results had me thinking I wasn't for a bit there.

• XML parsing with SAX | how to handle special characters?

  We have a JAVA application that pulls the data from SAP, parses it and renders to the users. The data is pulled using JCO connector. Recently we were thrown an exception: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Character reference "&#00" is an invalid XML character. So, we are planning to write a new level of indirection where ALL special/illegal characters are replaced BEFORE parsing the XML. My questions here are : 1. Is there any existing(open source) utility that does this job of replacing illegal characters in XML? 2. Or if I had to write such utility, how should i handle them? 3. Why is the above exception thrown? Thank You.

• How get Android 2.1 SDK to recognize new class: SignalStrength

  The new Android 2.1 SDK (version 7) has a new class called SignalStrength: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/telephony/SignalStrength.html I updated my SDK in Eclipse to include the 2.1 add-on, and now I am trying to use this new class. However, when I go to do an import android.telephony.SignalStrength, it can't find it. Do I have to somehow reset my project to refresh the SDK so it knows about the new libraries? How can I get it to recognize this new class? Thanks.

  Hi Im fairly new with DDD and Im trying to use IOC in order to loosen up my tightly coupled layers :) My C# web application consists of a UI, domain and persistence layer. My persistence layer references my domain layer and contains my concrete repository implementations and nhibernate mappings. Currently my UI references my domain layer. My question : How do I use an IOC container to inject my concrete classes, in my persistence layer, into my domain layer? Does this meen that my UI should also reference my persistence layer?

  I have been seeing the following error message a lot whenever I build something using the simulator: dyld: Symbol not found: _objc_collect_if_needed Referenced from: /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator3.1.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/Foundation.framework/Foundation Expected in: /usr/lib/libobjc.A.dylib in /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator3.1.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/Foundation.framework/Foundation I am running XCode 3.2.2 on OS X 10.6.3, and have reinstalled the SDK twice with no avail. This error makes running any code on the simulator something of a Russian Roulette, but with 5 out of 6 chambers loaded. I have checked the files mentioned in the error message, and they all checkout as being present. This sometimes go away if I restart XCode. Other times I have to logout, or even restart. And sometimes nothing works. I have googled this, even tried apple's developer forums. Other than a reference to this in the MonoTouch list, this bug appears to be completely unknown otherwise. Anything help would be greatly appreciated - this is a real PITA. Cheers, Steve

  I have the following requirements I have relational content stored in a SQL Server 2005 database. I want to retrieve this data, transform it and display it in an Excel 2007 document. I would like this to be pulled from within Excel at the click of a button. As far as I can tell I have the following options... Create a view in Sql Server and reference it within a pivot table using a data connection. Create an Excel workbook using VSTO and create a web service which the workbook pulls data from Create a web service and use JScript with XMLHTTP request objects I currently only have a little experience of any of these methods (I'm very familiar with SQL Server although not pivot tables, I've created many web services although I've never used VSTO and I've used javascript extensively, but never in the context of Excel manipulation). Would you recommend one of the above approaches or is there a better way to do this?

  I've been trying to understand the intricacies of how POSIX threads and POSIX signals interact. In particular, I'm interested in: What's the best way to control which thread a signal is delivered to (assuming it isn't fatal in the first place)? What is the best way to tell another thread (that might actually be busy) that the signal has arrived? (I already know that it's a bad idea to be using pthread condition variables from a signal handler.) For reference about why I want this, I'm researching how to convert the TclX package to support threads, or to split it up and at least make some useful parts support threads. • PySide using Style Sheets to change QtoolBox

  I'm Wondering if somebody knows a better reference than the QT one for style sheets. I try to change the background of the content from a QToolBox but background-color only changes the header of the toolbox and the background of the content it reveals is left in a standard color. I then tried to change the bg of QWidget which worked but left me with problems now at Radiobuttons and Checkboxes, i also think changing QWidget isn't a good solution.   I've having problems with resource filtering using m2eclipse Maven support in Eclipse. It seems that filtering only takes place on resources that have changed. This is fundamentally flawed because, if I have a file that references properties (e.g. ${my.property}, if the value of the property changes, the filtering will only be performed if the referencing file is also modified - if I only change the property value (in my pom.xml), the filtering is not applied to the files that that reference it. So, if I make a change to a property in my pom file, the filtering is not applied. However, if I then go to the file that references that property (e.g. a Spring config file) then edit and save it, the filtering is applied. I did read somewhere that: "m2eclipse skips filtering if there were no resource changes during incremental build" I'm using m2eclipse 0.10.x Has anyone else come across this? Thanks, Andrew
