• iPhone / NSArray : How do I format a text file to be read in using arrayWithContentsOfFile

  I have several large word lists and I had been loading them in place in the code as follows: NSArray *dict3 = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:@"abled",@"about",@"above",@"absurd",@"absurdity", ... but now it is actually causing an exc_bad_access error weirdly, i know it seems implausible but for some reason IT IS causing it. (trust me on this I just spend the better part of a day debugging this crap) Anyway, I'm looking to get these humongous lines of code out of my files but I'm not sure what the best approach is. I guess I could do a plist but I need to figure out how to automate the process. it be easiest if I could just use the text files I've been compiling so if anyone knows how I can format the text file so that the myArray = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile: @"myTextFile.txt"]; will be read in correctly as one word per element in the array it would really be appreciated. I got one error it says Error Line 30, Column 57: there is no attribute "DATA-FLEXMENU" href="about.php" class="mainlink" data-flexmenu="flexmenu1">About Us</a></div> You have used the attribute named above in your document, but the document type you are using does not support that attribute for this element. This error is often caused by incorrect use of the "Strict" document type with a document that uses frames (e.g. you must use the "Transitional" document type to get the "target" attribute), or by using vendor proprietary extensions such as "marginheight" (this is usually fixed by using CSS to achieve the desired effect instead). • [Simple] Beginner AJAX script not working, stuck on opening XMLHttpRequest

  Hopefully, this question isn't too juvenile to ask - but here goes: I'm trying to learn AJAX, and I'm stuck on a simple content-fetch. Here is my code: request = getHTTPObject(); function useHttpResponse() { if (request.readyState == 4) { document.getElementById("p").innerHTML = request.responseText; } } function update_p() { request.open("GET",content.html,true); request.onreadystatechange = useHttpResponse; } getHTTPObject is correctly defined, and returns a proper XMLHttpObject. As you probably guessed from the excerpt, the element I am trying to update is id'd "p". It calls the script correctly when a button is clicked, no problem there. The script seems to stop at line 8, at request.open. There's no error, and the script silently ignores anything afterward. I don't think I've missed anything, but of course, I probably did. Where did I go wrong? Thanks!

  Suppose there is an element in XML data: <abc:xyz:name attr="value"/> I'm trying to read it with XmlReader. The problem is that I get XmlException that says The ‘:’ character, hexadecimal value 0x3A, cannot be included in a name I have already declared "abc" namespace. I have also tried adding "abc:xyz" and "xyz" namespaces. But this doesn't help at all. I could replace some text before parsing but there may be some more elegant solution. So what should I do? • How should it work if I want a page to have a theme-roller (more or less like the jQuery themeroller

  The basic idea is to create a page that gives the user the ability to choose a skin or theme from a menu. When the user selects the desired skin/theme, it should be applied to the page, just like the jquery ui theme roller page. So, to be more precise, what I am trying to know is how to apply dynamically the style to a page - how to load the css and so forth. On the jquery ui theme roller, is there any javascript triggered after the new set of styles is loaded? (for js positioning or sizing?) (The answer may be simple as "just create a new style element and set its src"...) Just to be clear, I don't need the option to let users customize the UI, I want them just to be able to pick from a few pre set styles. Thanks!

• Lua metatable Objects cannot be purge from memory?

  Hi there, I'm using a proprietary platform that reported memory usage in realtime on screen. I decided to use a Class.lua I found on http://lua-users.org/wiki/SimpleLuaClasses However, I noticed memory issues when purging object created by this using a simple Account class. Specifically, I would start with say 146k of memory used, create 1000 objects of a class that just holds an integer instance variable and store each object into a table. The memory used is now 300k I would then exit, iterating through the table and setting each element in the table to nil. But would never get back the 146k, usually after this I am left using 210k or something similar. If I run the load sequence again during the same session, it does not exceed 300k so it is not a memory leak. I have tried creating 1000 integers in a table and setting these to nil, which does give me back 146k. In addition I've tried a simpler class file (Account2.lua) that doesn't rely on a class.lua. This still incurs memory fragmentation but not as much as the one that uses Class.lua Can anybody explain what is going on here? • FF extension: displaying an array of string elements in a sidebar

  I am developing a ff extension which displays a list of elements from an array (dynamic) in the sidebar. The array is dynamic and needs to be constructed in a function everytime the sidebar is opened (or any other event handler). Later, i will need to implement link functionality on parts of the string. What is the best way to go about this? I have created an empty sidebar and just know the label element as of now. menu, and menuitem dont work. What other elements can i use to display text in a good way which supports dynamic contruction. Is there some good tutorial/sample extension which i can see and learn?

  I am trying to output a XML file using Python and lxml However, I notice one thing that if a tag has no text, it does not close itself. An example of this would be: root = etree.Element('document') rootTree = etree.ElementTree(root) firstChild = etree.SubElement(root, 'test') The output of this is: <document> <test/> </document I want the output to be: <document> <test> </test> </document> So basically I want to close a tag which has no text, but is used to the attribute value. How do I do that? And also, what is such a tag called? I would have Googled it, but I don't know how to search for it.

• Change background colour of individual elements on the fly

  Hi, Is there a way in CSS or JQuery where I can dynamically change the background of li tags so they get slightly lighter for each element until it gets to white. For example say I had a list of 10 li elements. The first would have a red (#ff0000) background, the next one would then be a lighter shade of red, and so on and so on until we got to the last one which would have a background of white (#FFFFFF) The list can be any length and i just want the background colour to go from one colour e.g. red to another colour e.g. white. My site uses JQuery so if I have to use that I don't mind. Thanks

• Flex - weird display behavior on large number of Canvas

  Hi, I have a Flex app (SDK 3.5 - FP10) that does mindmap trees. Every node is a Canvas (I'm using Canvas specific properties so I needed it). It has a shadow effect, background color and some small ui element on it (like icons, texts...). It works perfectly until it goes over ~700 nodes (Canvas). Over that number it shows grey rectangles: http://yfrog.com/bhw2pj . If I turn off the DropShadowFilter effect for the Canvas, they are also gone, so I assume it's a DropShadowFilter problem: http://yfrog.com/2d9y8j . The effect is simple: private static var _nodeDropShadow:DropShadowFilter = new DropShadowFilter(1, 45, 0x888888, 1, 1, 1); _backgroundComp.filters = _nodeDropShadow; Is it possible that Flex can't handle that much? • How do I visualize a complex graph in .Net?

  I need to visualize a graph (technically being a set of Entity Framework objects, but I can translate it to another representation if needed) of this kind. I don't know how to name it (by the way, if you know - I'll appreciate if you tell me). It would be ideal for graph elements to be clickable (so that when user clicks on a block, I can handle an event with the element id specified) but I can survive even without any interactivity. Are there any components available good for this task? If no, what should I look for to help me to develop an algorithm for drawing such a graph with visually-comfortable layout?

• About enumerations in Delphi and c++ in 64-bit environments

  I recently had to work around the different default sizes used for enumerations in Delphi and c++ since i have to use a c++ dll from a delphi application. On function call returns an array of structs (or records in delphi), the first element of which is an enum. To make this work, I use packed records (or aligned(1)-structs). However, since delphi selects the size of an enum-variable dynamically by default and uses the smallest datatype possible (it was a byte in my case), but C++ uses an int for enums, my data was not interpreted correctly. Delphi offers a compiler switch to work around this, so the declaration of the enum becomes {$Z4} TTypeofLight = ( V3d_AMBIENT, V3d_DIRECTIONAL, V3d_POSITIONAL, V3d_SPOT ); {$Z1} My Questions are: What will become of my structs when they are compiled on/for a 64-bit environment? Does the default c++ integer grow to 8 Bytes? Are there other memory alignment / data type size modifications (other than pointers)?

The problem is that neither is working, and the error console shows "input.adjacent is not a function" I'm using prototype 1.6.1 and scriptaculous 1.8.3

  Hi, I discovered that .attr() only applies to the first matched element on the page! So, I've been trying to get the hrefs from all the matched elements on a page, but to no avail. Here's what I tentatively wrote: var thelinks = $("td a").each(function(){ $(this).attr("href"); document.write(thelinks); }); I used document.write just to see what was going on, and I got a long list of "undefinedundefinedundefined" What I'm trying to do is extract the hrefs from each td a and then use ajax to visit those pages and do other stuff. I can get it work fine when it's dealing with just one link, but this multiple elements thing I can't figure out. Any help rendered is appreciated, I'm a novice to the world of Javascript and Jquery.

• Creating an array & outputting its code definition for preloading

  I want to create a 2d array that represents my 2d canvas. For each pixel, I will look up the value and then save an integer {0, 1, 2, 3, 4} as each element of the array. Unfortunately, this takes way too friggin' long to run each time I load the game. How can I write a script that creates this array for me and outputs the array code so I can just paste it in a js file and have it preloaded? (I'm prototyping a game, so I just need to run this for my test map or two.)

  If I am walking through an IEnumerable<T>, is there any way to get a new IEnumerable<T> representing the remaining items after the current one. For example, I would like to write an extension method IEnumerator<T>.Remaining(): IEnumerable<int> sequence = ... IEnumerator<int> enumerator = sequence.GetEnumerator(); if (enumerator.MoveNext() && enumerator.MoveNext()) { IEnumerable<int> rest = enumerator.Remaining(); // 'rest' would contain elements in 'sequence' start at the 3rd element } I'm thinking of the collection of a sort of singly-linked list, so there should be a way to represent any remaining elements, right?   Hi there, I want to save data to my Sony Ericsson K750i. I know the phone implements FileConnection version 1.0. The list of roots taken from FileSystemRegistry.listRoots(); returns single element named "c:/". I want to save a file.txt just about anywhere, but preferably to the memory stick attached. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work. It throws an IOException without any message. I tried opening the fileconnection on numerous roots like c:/, C:/, /, ./, root1/, SDCard/, CFCard/, MemoryStick/ and perhaps some more but without any luck. The exception is thrown right after this line for any of those roots: FileConnection filecon = (FileConnection) Connector.open("file:///MemoryStick/file.txt"); Please, what URL should i use?

• Programming style: should you return early if a guard condition is not satisfied?

Is it better to return immediately if a guard condition hasn't been satisfied, or should you only do the other stuff if the guard condition is satisfied?
