Selecting a Java framework for large application w/ only ONE user

I am building a large application that will be hosted on an AWS server. I'm trying to select a web framework for assisting me with code organization, template design, and generally presentation aspects. Here are some points of consideration: Require security/login/user authentication. I may add the ability in the future to allow more than just an administrator to access the web app, but it is not a public facing website. AJAX support would be helpful. There are a couple widgets that I don't want to recreate. One is a tree object, where the user can expand/contract items in the list, can create new branches, add/edit objects. This would be better off in some dynamic view rather than all done in ugly html. Generally, this is just to provide the application with a face for control, management, and monitoring. Having an easier time adding buttons, CSS, AJAX widgets are great additions though, but not the primary purpose. I'm considering: Wicket Spring Seam GWT Stripe and the list goes on, as I'm sure you all know. I originally planned on using GWT, but then started to feel that GWT didn't cover my primary needs. I could be wrong about this, but there seems to be a lot of support for GWT AND Wicket/Spring. All of this 'getting lost in java frameworks' got me thinking outside the java realm for a framework that would suit my needs that was a clear option, like: JRuby/Rails Jython/Django Groovy/Grails Guice (just throwing this in there... I don't clearly understand the main purposes of all these frameworks. It doesn't seem like DInjection is something I need for a single purpose application) Thanks as always. Insert video clip in a lyx presentation and play it in GNU/Linux.

How can I insert a video clip into a presentation created in Lyx? Have seen http://www.latex-community.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=48. It works, but there the video starts in the background in an external player. I would prefer it to be played in the presentation itself. If an external player is used it it should at least start in the foreground. But the presentation takes the foreground. Using evince in GNU/linux as pdf viewer. Beamer is used as a presentation template. Is it possible to play a video file in an embedded player in the presentation itself? Created an example presentation. drupal_add_css not working

Hiya, I need to use drupal_add_css to call stylesheets onto single D6 pages. I don't want to edit the main theme stylesheet as there will be a set of individual pages which all need completely new styles - the main sheet would be massive if i put it all in there. My solution was to edit the page in PHP editor mode and do this: <?php drupal_add_css("/styles/file1.css", "theme"); ?> <div id="newPageContent">stuff here in html</div> But when i view source, there is nothing there! Not even a broken css link or anything, it's just refusing to add the css sheet to the css package put into the page head. Variations don't seem to work either: drupal_add_css($path = '/styles/file1.css', $type = 'module', $media = 'all', $preprocess = TRUE) My template header looks like this, i've not changed anything from the default other than adding a custom JS. <head> <?php print $head ?> <title><?php print $head_title ?></title> <?php print $styles ?> <?php print $scripts ?> <script type="text/javascript" src="<?php print base_path() ?>misc/askme.js"></script>  </head> Can anyone think of a reason why this function is not working? How have you successfully implemented MessageBox.Show() functionality in MVVM?

I've got a WPF application which calls MessageBox.Show() way back in the ViewModel (to check if the user really wants to delete). This actually works, but goes against the grain of MVVM since the ViewModel should not explicitly determine what happens on the View. So now I am thinking how can I best implement the MessageBox.Show() functionality in my MVVM application, options: I could have a message with the text "Are you sure...?" along with two buttons Yes and No all in a Border in my XAML, and create a trigger on the template so that it is collapsed/visible based on a ViewModelProperty called AreYourSureDialogueBoxIsVisible, and then when I need this dialogue box, assign AreYourSureDialogueBoxIsVisible to "true", and also handle the two buttons via DelegateCommand back in my ViewModel. I could also somehow try to handle this with triggers in XAML so that the Delete button actually just makes some Border element appear with the message and buttons in it, and the Yes button did the actually deleting. Both solutions seem to be too complex for what used to be a couple lines of code with MessageBox.Show(). In what ways have you successfully implemented Dialogue Boxes in your MVVM applications?

resolving overloads in boost.python

I have a C++ class like this: class ConnectionBase { public: ConnectionBase(); template <class T> Publish(const T&); private: virtual void OnEvent(const Overload_a&) {} virtual void OnEvent(const Overload_b&) {} }; My templates & overloads are a known fixed set of types at compile time. The application code derives from ConnectionBase and overrides OnEvent for the events it cares about. I can do this because the set of types is known. OnEvent is private because the user never calls it, the class creates a thread that calls it as a callback. The C++ code works. I have wrapped this in boost.python, I can import it and publish from python. I want do create the equivalent of the following in python : class ConnectionDerived { public: ConnectionDerived(); private: virtual void OnEvent(const Overload_b&) { // application code } }; But ... since python isn't typed, and all the boost.python examples I've seen dealing with internals are on the C++ side, I'm a little puzzled as to how to do this. How do I override specific overloads?

Hi everyone, I've been struggling on this thing for a week without being able to find what I'm looking for. Here is what I'd like to do: I'm setting up a wiki where I can post all my knowledge to (yes, I know a couple things :p) but I can't render it the way I'd like to. The bodies of my posts are text fields. In order to render them the right way I run the following command: @post.body.gsub("\n", "<br />") I also have some tags with some code inside that looks like this < code my code < /code. Here come's the issue. Every line between the < code and < /code tags are changed to but it doesn'r render properly since I'm using a code render template. Therefore, I'd like to know if there is a way to change all \n to < br / except for those between < code and < /code Thank you everyone for reading this and helping me out. PS: Please do not consider the spaces after the < in each tag. I had to do this to "espace" them. Julien

Django Class Views and Reverse Urls

I have a good many class based views that use reverse(name, args) to find urls and pass this to templates. However, the problem is class based views must be instantiated before urlpatterns can be defined. This means the class is instantiated while urlpatterns is empty leading to reverse throwing errors. I've been working around this by passing lambda: reverse(name, args) to my templates but surely there is a better solution. As a simple example the following fails with exception: ImproperlyConfigured at xxxx The included urlconf mysite.urls doesn't have any patterns in it mysite.urls from mysite.views import MyClassView urlpatterns = patterns('', url(r'^$' MyClassView.as_view(), name='home') ) views.py class MyClassView(View): def get(self, request): home_url = reverse('home') return render_to_response('home.html', {'home_url':home_url}, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) home.html <p><a href={{ home_url }}>Home</a></p> I'm currently working around the problem by forcing reverse to run on template rendering by changing views.py to class MyClassView(View): def get(self, request): home_url = lambda: reverse('home') return render_to_response('home.html', {'home_url':home_url}, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) and it works, but this is really ugly and surely there is a better way. So is there a way to use reverse in class based views but avoid the cyclic dependency of urlpatterns requiring view requiring reverse requiring urlpatterns...

How can I transform XML to invalid XML using XSLT?

I need to transform a valid XML document to the OFX v1.0.2 format. This format is more or less XML, but it's technically invalid and therefore cannot be parsed as XML. I'm having trouble getting my Xml transformation working because the .Net XslCompiledTransform object insists on interpreting the XSL as an XML document (which is fair enough). If I escape the xml-ish tags using < and &gt, they get removed when I download the file. YUI DataTable - Howto have just one paginator?

Hello, I'm using the YUI DataTable in a Grails 1.1 project using the Grails UI plugin 1.0.2 (YUI being 2.6.1). By default, the DataTable displays 2 paginators: one above and another one below the table. Looking up the YUI API documentation, I could see that I can pass an array of YUI containers as a config parameter but - what are the names of these containers? I've tried loooking at the HTML of the page using Firebug. The ID of the divs containing the paginators are: yui-dt0-paginator0 (above) and yui-dt0-paginator1 (below). If I use them to configure the containers for the navigator, then the navigator is just not displayed at all. Bad linking in Qt unit test -- missing the link to the moc file?

I'm trying to unit test a class that inherits QObject; the class itself is located up one level in my directory structure. When I build the unit test I get the standard unresolved errors if a class' MOC file cannot be found: test.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: virtual void * __thiscall UnitToTest::qt_metacast(char const *)" (?qt_metacast@UnitToTest@@UAEPAXPBD@Z) + 2 missing functions The MOC file is created but appears to not be linking. I've been poking around SO, the web, and Qt's docs for quite a while and have hit a wall. UpdatePanel with GridView with LinkButton with Image Causes Full Postback

So this might be a fairly specific issue but I figured I'd post it since I spent hours struggling with it before I was able to determine the cause. <asp:GridView ID="gvAttachments" DataKeyNames="UploadedID" AutoGenerateColumns="false" OnSelectedIndexChanged="gvAttachments_SelectedIndexChanged" runat="server"> <EmptyDataTemplate>There are no attachments associated to this email template.</EmptyDataTemplate> <Columns> <asp:TemplateField ItemStyle-Width="100%"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:LinkButton CommandName="Select" runat="server"><img src="/images/icons/trashcan.png" style="border: none;" /></asp:LinkButton> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> </Columns> In the ItemTemplate of the TemplateField of the GridView I have a LinkButton with an image inside of it. Normally I do this when I have an image with some text next to it but this time, for whatever reason, I just have the image. This causes the UpdatePanel to always do a full postback. SOLUTION: Change that LinkButton to be an ImageButton and the problem is solved. <asp:ImageButton ImageUrl="/images/icons/trashcan.png" Style="border: none;" CommandName="Select" runat="server" />

Java & Maven generating -and using- my own archetype

Hello again! I have been busy in my project creating a webapp (in struts) that manages maven, using maven-2.2.1-uber.jar link text. The problem comes when the boss says it has to use some archetypes the company has created (so no predefined archetypes for you naughty boy!). So ok, I use the -DarchetypeRepository option (with ServletWrapper I get my complete web direction, becouse the repository will be inside the app), and the log seems to find it, but then the build fails -miserably- with this little text 'Build Failure - The defined artifact is not an archetype' as simple as that. Of course I have a lot of INFO lines that say abslutily nothig related. I have read the maven definitive guide searching for some kind of help, but it has been disapointing at best. My thoughts are thatmaybe I am missing in somewhere of all the folders tree some xml that actually sais maven that my pom.xml is an archetype not a project. But I really, really, can't find anything on the net or in the manuals that explains easy-handed how the archetype:generate (with special parameters) works and where I have to put every folder and/or file. So just to say my thoughts aloud (and hopefully you understand what I am trying to ask): I have a template where I do some xml changes (variables, etc...), then I have to call maen and do an archetype:generate with a variable project. The problem seems to be that my actual confuguration doesn't like what I am doing. After the generation of the archetype, witch luckly will create some directory trees and leave me a POM.xml somewhere I still have to do some variable changes and more xml manage stuff, so it whould be very kind from maven to don't destroy anything in this process. Any ideas why this maven-thing is not happly-ever-after asuming that my archetype is defintly an archetype? Allthought I think the code is ok, it could be wrong, as I am using maven-ubber and I call the actual CSMavenCli.main(String[, ClassWorld), I don't think it is the case this time. Adding BarButtons to a UINavigationBar after presenting a modal view controller.

I'm using the template for a "Utility Application". In the "FlipSideViewController", I added an IBOutlet for a UINavigationController, navController. In the code, I added the navController just fine. The rootViewController loads perfectly: navController.viewControllers = [[NSArray arrayWithObject:rootViewController] retain]; [self.view addSubview:navController.view]; I changed the color of the navController just fine: navController.navigationBar.tintColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:0.6 green:0.75 blue:0.6 alpha:1.0]; navController.navigationBar.translucent = NO; I make a button (note: "done" refers to a IBAction that dismisses the modalviewcontroller): UIBarButtonItem *backButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"TEST" style:UIBarButtonItemStyleDone target:self action:@selector(done:)]; I make a navItem using that button: UINavigationItem *backNavItem = [[UINavigationItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"TESTTEST"]; [backNavItem setRightBarButtonItem:backButton animated:YES]; I try to add that button: [navController.navigationBar pushNavigationItem:backNavItem animated:YES]; This above code fails miserably. I apparently can't add buttons to the navController because: * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Cannot call pushNavigationItem:animated: directly on a UINavigationBar managed by a controller.' Do I have to make a separate UINavigationBar that's somehow connected to my navController? I tried going that route but with no avail.

Rails, RSpec and Webrat: Expected output matches rendered output but still getting error in view spe

Hello all, I've just gotten started using BDD with RSpec/Cucumber/Webrat and Rails and I've run into some frustration trying to get my view spec to pass. First of all, I am running Ruby 1.9.1p129 with Rails 2.3.2, RSpec and RSpec-Rails 1.2.6, Cucumber 0.3.11, and Webrat 0.4.4. Pagination in Joomla!

Hi every one. I'm a bit new to Joomla! and I'm building my new web site using Joomla! 1.5.8 with a template bought from RocketTheme. The long article in question is a gallery of photos, and I wanted to create a horizontal pagination nav-bar in the footer of the gallery, I just clicked pagebreak where I wanted to paginate in my article in the WYSIWYG editor and thought that it's actually all I have to do. What I got was ugly; a vertically directed navigation bar placed in the top right side of my gallery with the links to each part of the article, the all without the minimum styling. And as I see it's a table! Why not outputting a list instead of a table! (Well this is not actually my concern right now). I can understand CSS and html, but I'm not really a PHP guy, so I don't understand how to use pagination.php or pagenavigation.php! Do I have to customize one of them to have my nav-bar? What I have to do to get that horizontal nav-bar? Really thanks in advance. Wassim

struts2: Redirect from global interceptor

In struts2 I have very simple task, after user is logged-in I'm checking if they profile is complete. If not user should be blocked from any other action and redirected to edit page. Saying editing page is /packageA/editProfile, my interceptor does following: public String intercept(ActionInvocation actionInvocation) throws Exception { if( currentUser.isOk() ) return "editProfile"; ... BUT! interceptor is global, so it raises struts2 error: No result defined for action (name of editProfile action class) When interceptor is placed inside some package - then everything ok. What should i do to declare global action?

Dojo: Programatically setting checkbox label for adding on TableContainer

Hi there, after some hours of checking out documentation, I am somewhat desperate: Basically I need to populate a TabContainer with some TextBoxes, and some Checkboxes. All theses neatly arranged: Labels to the left, fields to the right. To have this done I use a TableContainer that I add to the TabContainer, create the TextFields and add them to the TableContainer. All is rendered ok. But when it comes to a checkbox, I can't find the trick to have a label displayed at all. If I: - add a label-attribute to creation statement say: var text8 = new dijit.form.CheckBox({ id:"zuschauer_" + i, value: "zuschauer", label:"fritt"}); Firefox comes up with a "containerNode is null" - Error try to add a tag: Nothing is shown (no error, but alas: no label): var text9 = dojo.create('<label>'); dojo.attr(text9,"for","zuschauer_" + i); dojo.attr(text9,"content","fritt"); try to add a div or somewhat else on the tablecontainer (disabled Labels): Firefox comes up whith: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... So how the hack: - Would I generate a label to a checkbox programatically (no html template possible, I've seen the code around, creating a checkbox but having a 'label for' on the html before. This would not be helpful, as I don't know how many checkboxes I need at designtime. These are to be genereated completly at runtime. - Would I have this very simple design done programatically, Must be easy, this is not rocket sience. C++ from SpeakHere in iPhone app

Hi guys, I've made a template app where I've grabbed the recording part of the SpeakHere example and removed the file handling part, but I'm struggeling to get the C++ part of the app working right. As soon as it enters the C++ class, it gets syntax errors. If I don't import the header files from C++ (and then of course don't use the code) into my Objective C classes, all works fine. I cannot see the difference between how I'm doing it and the example is doing it. Can you see the difference? Using the MVVM Light Toolkit to make Blendable applications

A while ago, I posted a question regarding switching between a Blend-authored GUI and a Visual Studio-authored one. I got it to work okay by adding my Blend project to my VS2008 project and then changing the Startup Application and recompiling. This would result in two applications that had completely different GUIs, yet used the exact same ViewModel and Model code. I was pretty happy with that. Now that I've learned about the Laurent Bugnion's MVVM Light Toolkit, I would really like to leverage his efforts to make this process of supporting multiple GUIs for the same backend code possible. The question is, does the toolkit facilate this, or am I stuck doing it my previous way? I've watched his video from MIX10 and have read some of the articles about it online. However, I've yet to see something that indicates that there is a clean way to allow a user to either dynamically switch GUIs on the fly by loading a different DLL. There are MVVM templates for VS2008 and Blend 3, but am I supposed to create both types of projects for my application and then reference specific files from my VS2008 solution? UPDATE I re-read some information on Laurent's site, and seemed to have forgotten that the whole point of the template was to allow the same solution to be opened in VS2008 and Blend. So anyhow, with this new perspective it looks like the templates are actually intended to use a single GUI, most likely designed entirely in Blend (with the convenience of debugging through VS2008), and then be able to use two different ViewModels -- one for design-time, and one for runtime. So it seems to me like the answer to my question is that I want to use a combination of my previous solution, along with the MVVM Light Toolkit. The former will allow me to make multiple, distinct GUIs around my core code, while the latter will make designing fancy GUIs in Blend easier with the usage of a design-time ViewModel. Can anyone comment on this?

Compiler optimization causing the performance to slow down

I have one strange problem. ( profiled using AQTimer) I found an unused variable double d = 0.0; outside the outer loop and removed the same. After this change, suddenly the method is taking 500ms for the same number of executions. ( 5 times slower). This behavior is reproducible in different machines with different processor types. (Core2, dualcore processors). I am using VC6 compiler with optimization level O2. Follwing are the other compiler options used : -MD -O2 -Z7 -GR -GX -G5 -X -GF -EHa I suspected compiler optimizations and removed the compiler optimization /O2. After that function became normal and it is taking 100ms as old code. Could anyone throw some light on this strange behavior? Why compiler optimization should slow down performance when I remove unused variable ? Note: The assembly code (before and after the change) looked same.

Where is my Drupal View pager?

Hi, I have a Drupal 6 site where I've created a view that shows a list of nodes. Nothing complicated -- except that when I choose "use pager" -- "yes" (and choose the "full pager" option), the pager doesn't show up on the page. The first page of nodes shows up, but there's no way to get to other pages. Through googling, I saw that some people had an issue with the "Pager Element" item, so I changed that from 0 to 1 -- no luck. This shouldn't be very complicated, but I've been at it for a while! Help!? ETA: I've tracked it down to the following lines in /modules/views/theme/theme.inc: $pager_theme = views_theme_functions($pager_type, $view, $view->display_handler->display); $vars['pager'] = theme($pager_theme, $exposed_input, $view->pager['items_per_page'], $view->pager['element']); The first line returns an array; the second line returns nothing. I suspect now that this is a theming problem with the custom theme I'm using that may not have fully been correctly updated for Drupal 6 -- like, maybe I'm missing a pager template somehow? -- however, I'm quite new to Drupal and don't really understand how to further track down and fix the issue. Any advice would be much appreciated! ETA yet again: The pager also doesn't show up when using Garland, so it's not a theme issue after all. ALSO: I have a copy of this site set up on a development server as well, and that copy has working pagination! I've checked what I thought might be different -- files in the theme, what modules are enabled -- and it seems like pretty much everything is the same. The one thing that I know is different, however, is that the production server has a lower version of MySQL (lower than recommended for Drupal 6 -- we're waiting on the hosting company being able to change this later). Would it make sense that the old version of MySQL is unable to do pagination correctly in Drupal 6? If so, does anyone know a workaround I can do until we are able to update MySQL?

Why does ObservableCollection throws an exception when being modified?

Hi! My application uses a WPF DataGrid. One of the columns is a template column that containts a combobox bound to an ObservableCollection of the entity which feeds the row. I want to use validation to check through all of the properties and put a big exclamation point in front of the whole datatemplate as it is displayed in the itemscontrol. how do I do this? All of the examples I've found explain how to set a ValidationRule on a specific control in the datatemplate, in that control's binding. I want to apply my validation rule to the entire template... Help! :)
