  I have a model like this: public PurchaseOrder { [Required] [StringLength(15)] public virtual string OrderNumber {get;set;} // etc. } When I submit an order from the view (using $.post, not input type=submit) it goes to my controller class: public class PurchaseOrderController { public JsonResult Save(PurchaseOrder order) { // TryUpdateModel(order); // commented out since modelstate.isvalid remains false anyway if (ModelState.IsValid) { // its never valid } } } ModelState.IsValid always returns false, with the error: "The Order Number field is required." But there is a value in this field (?? why) Why would it say "value is required" when it does have a value? Have I missed something? Is it because of the $.post instead of the submit? What can I do? • ASP.Net Authentication with MVC2--how to integrate with DB?

  I'm trying to understand the authentication section sample project that opens in a new MVC2 project in VS2010. It essentially lets you register, login, etc. I looked through the code that implements this briefly, it looked fairly complicated. (10 tables, 40 sprocs, 10 views, 4 models, 1 model, 1 controller, etc.) Is it best to utilize this provided framework for authentication? If so, how would I integrate this with my own database models (which has user and role tables, etc.). Also, if I use their framework, are there any performance issues at higher traffic volumes (like SO for example), do I need to become responsible for maintaining the authentication DB as well in this case?

  Hello, I am writing an ASP.NET MVC 2.0 application which requires users to log in before placing a bid on an item. I am using an actionfilter to ensure that the user is logged in and, if not, send them to a login page and set the return url. Below is the code i use in my action filter. if (!filterContext.HttpContext.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated) { filterContext.Result = new RedirectResult(String.Concat("~/Account/LogOn","?ReturnUrl=",filterContext.HttpContext.Request.RawUrl)); return; } In my logon controller I validate the users credentials then sign them in and redirect to the return url FormsAuth.SignIn(userName, rememberMe); if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(returnUrl)) { return Redirect(returnUrl); } My problem is that this will always use a Get (HttpGet) request whereas my original submission was a post (HttpPost) and should always be a post. Can anyone suggest a way of passing this URL including the HttpMethod or any workaround to ensure that the correct HttpMethod is used? Thanks in advance, JP

• Deployment Error: Silverlight 4.0 w/WCF RIA Services in ASP.NET MVC 2 App

  I've got an MVC 2 App with an RIA Services link to a Silverlight Application. On my local machine, all is well, but when I deploy to Discount ASP servers, neither the MVC controller nor the WCF RIA services called from silverlight function: A silverlight datagrid gets a load error: System.ServiceModel.DomainServices.Client.DomainOperationException: Load operation failed for query... The remote server returned an error NotFound. In the MVC page where I had a simple table that worked prior to adding an EF model and DomainDataSource, I now get the error: Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information. This is very similar to an issue I had before, but after upgrading from the betas of WCF/Silverlight 4, but the fix I had added there doesn't seem to work any longer. • UISplitViewController programmtically without nib/xib, thank you.

  Hi, I usually create my projects without IB-stuff. The first thing I do is to strip off all references to xibs, outlets updated plist, etc and so forth. No problems, works great (in my world)! Now, I just installed 3.2 and tried to develop my first iPad app. Following same procedure as before, I created a UISplitView-based application project and stripped off all IB-stuff. Also, I followed the section in Apple's reference docs: "Creating a Split View Controller Programmatically", http://bit.ly/axgYAs, but nevertheless, the Master-view is never shown, only the Detail-view is (no matter what the orientation is). I really have tried to carefully look this through but I cannot understand what I have missed. Is there a working example of a UISplitViewController without the nibs floating around somewhere? I have googled but could not find any. Or do you know what I probably have missed? Regards, /Steve PS. Spare me the lesson why I should use the IB ;-) DS.

  I'm trying to use F# for an ASP.NET MVC application. One my controller actions sends an F# list to the view, so I write: <%@ Page Language="C#" Inherits="ViewPage<FSharpList<int>>" %> Of course, for this to work, I have to add Microsoft.FSharp.Collections to the namespaces element in my web.config: <add namespace="Microsoft.FSharp.Collections"/> and add a reference to FSharp.Core, in the assemblies element: <add assembly="FSharp.Core, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"/> As soon as I add this assembly reference, every view (whether it uses an F# type or not) fails with this error: error FS1221: FSharp.Core.sigdata not found alongside FSharp.Core I can work around this by not having any F# specific types in my views, but what's the reason for this error? Also, where's FSharp.Core.sigdata ? It's not in my GAC and I can't find it anywhere.

• TTThumbsViewController + navigationController issue

  Hi, .. 2 questions. I am only using Three20 for a gallery in my app. When I push my .. : TTThumbsViewController from another view, the navigation bar is not the color I want it to be (as per the rest of my app). I have set up a TTDefaultStyleSheet as per this stackoverflow QA. Is there something special I have to do as I am only using the TTThumbsViewController? The thumbs view is also created with extra space at the top, as though it is leaving room for a navigation controller, without knowing that one is already there. How can I tell the TTThumbsViewController to use the existing uinavigationcontroller? Or behave as though it is?   Quick question which I hope is easily answered.. I am following this tutorial: http://oreilly.com/pub/a/ruby/archive/rails.html?page=2 and all is going well until I try create a controller and view it in my browser. The server is running and it shows the default page okay (http://127.0.0.1:3000). I ran ruby script\generate controller MyTest in my command line and it generated the correct folders and files. The problem is, when I go to http://127.0.0.1:3000/My%5FTest/ it says: We're sorry, but something went wrong. We've been notified about this issue and we'll take a look at it shortly. • jQuery button click refresh of jqGrid only firing once

  I have the following jQuery code which I'm using to populate a jqGrid. It works perfectly posting to my ASP.NET MVC page on the first click of the button. My problem is, any other clicks past the first it seems to run through the jquery code when clicking the button but it never makes it to the POST page. • jqGrid - Problems opening in jquery tabs (on Firefox and Google Chrome)

  I have developed a very simple MVC app to test out trirand's jqGrid for MVC. The app opens a jqgrid in a jquery tab group and everything is ok with IE. However when I use Firefox jqgrid only opens occasionaly in the first tab (but not under any other tab), and in Chrome my jqgrids dont appear to open under any tab of the group. I'm a bit of an MVC newbie (and have only been testing jqgrid out for a few days), but I know my users will want to use different browsers. Trirand have not come back with any answer so wondered if anyone else had had a similar issue. I have really just implemented jqgrid as per the controllers and model in the sample application on the Trirand site, and then combined it with a straightforward jquery tab group. • iPad: SplitView does not rotate

  I have the following setup: A subclass of UISplitViewController that creates the master and detail view controllers in the constructor. Master and Detail view controllers that both override shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation to return `YES'. Detail view controller implements the UISplitViewControllerDelegate protocol and deals with the popover. I am observing two weird issues that might be interrelated: When the split view comes up (in portrait mode - default on simulator), the Master view is visible. It should not be. When I rotate the simulator, the view does not "right" itself. My UISplitViewController subclass does not override shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation. However, both master and details view controllers do and return YES. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Is this a simulator bug? Thanks. -Raj

  Let us say we have a class A which has a reference to another class B (1:m) public class A { public virtual B B { get; set; } } I reflect this using FluentNHibernate within the sharp architecture and also manage to ‘initialise’ A and its B via a DTO and Automapper. The DTO contain A’s values and B (just B’s id value/A’s foreign key initialised). I was hoping that I can persist A by ‘just’ using its 'out of the box repository' without requiring B’s repository using: SaveOrUpdate(A); (A has been mapped using AutoMapper and contains B with its Id initialised) Was my assumption too naive? Can I achieve this somehow (without ever requiring B’s repository)? Or do I have to use A’s and B’s repository in, for example, the controller or some other service layer? Thanks. In IB in the nib file, I've added a view ahead of the table view and hooked it up to headerView - a UIView declared in the .h file. • Accessing UIPopoverController for UIActionSheet on iPad

  On the iPad, one can show a UIActionSheet using -showFromBarButtonItem:animated:. This is convenient because it wraps a UIPopoverController around the action sheet and it points the popover's arrow to the UIBarButtonItem that is passed in. However, this call adds the UIBarButtomItem's toolbar to the list of passthrough views - which isn't always desirable. And, without a pointer to the UIPopoverController, one can't add other views to the passthrough list. Does anyone know of a sanctioned approach to getting a pointer to the popover controller?   I'm building a traditional .NET MVC site, so I've got a natural 3-tier software architecture setup (presentation in the form of Views, business layer in the controller, and data layer in the models and data access layer). When I've deployed such sites, it usually goes either on one server (where the web site and db live), or two servers (a web server and a separate db server). How does one go about a 3-server architecture (WEB, APP, and DB)? Would the web server just have the presentation (e.g. the physical View/aspx pages), the app server would hold the config file and bin folder, and the db server would remain as is? My question is essentially, can you simply move the /bin and all app logic onto a separate server from the presentation views? If so, how do you configure the servers to know where to look? If there's a good primer somewhere or someone can give me the lowdown, I'd be forever indebted.

  Hello, I have a a navigation application developed in Silverlight 4. It has a main page which contains a frame. I load a particualr view in that frame and I know that I can use NavigationService to navigate to other page which would be loaded in the same frame. But my question is how it can be done using MVVM? To get the frame do I need to pass the reference of the page? Also, as per my knowledge one view is not aware of any other views. So what is the best way to make them aware of each other? I have heard of Controller and Mediator but how shall I implement them so as to get the Frame of the mainpage? It would be very helpful if anyone can give me the example or probably sample code for this. Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I'm developing an iPhone app. I need to create a Quiz application that has different Question views embedded in it (see my similar question). Different types of Question will have different behavior, so I plan to create a controller class for each type of Question. The MultipleChoiceQuestionController would set up a question and 3-4 buttons for the user to select an answer. Similarly, the IdentifyPictureQuestionController would load an image and present a text box to the user. However, the docs say that a UIViewController should only be used for views that take up the entire application window. How else can I create a class to manage events in my subviews? Thanks,
