    Hi, I recently contacted a web host regarding support for external database access to a Microsoft SQL Server database included in a package they offer. They replied saying that it is only possible with an SSH-tunnel. Is it possible to connect to a SQL Server database in Visual Studio using an SSH-tunnel? It is important for me to be able to access the database from my local machine (for debugging, generating LINQ classes, editing tables, etc). Or, how should I go about working with their database?

    Hello, sorry for answer but how to enable TCP in SQL server 2005 express edition? I used configuration manager, find network configuration/protocols and there enabled TCP, after that I have restarted sql server service and tried installation of problematic software again (software which told me that TCP is not enabled) but I have the same problem :-(

    i have a string like this something = "something, something1, "something2, something else", something3" i need it to be read into a table like this: field1 = "something" field2= "something2" field3 = "something2, something else" field4 = "something3" please notice that the double quotes in the something string signified that the string inside the quotes is to be placed in one field anyone know how to do this with an insert into statement or some other way? the answer can be purely sql or can be vba with sql. thanks!

How can I create a dynamic SQL query to show above result? Received Tickets is calculated on SubmitedDate Closed Tickets is calculated on ClosedDate with status "Closed" same for Pending Tickets whose status is "Pending". Please provide me the idea or some sample SQL queries.

Now I need to have some C# code also call this auditing procedure at the end of the process and basically store all data that would be in the "Results to Text" window into a .txt file.     I got a little problem i need a sql query that gives all rows back that only contains 0 in it. the column is defined as varchar2(6) the values in the column looks like this: 0 00 00 100 bc00 000000 00000 my first solution would be like this: Oracle: substr('000000' || COLUMN_NAME, -6) = '000000' SQL Server: right('000000' + COLUMN_NAME, 6) = '000000' is there an other way? (it needs to work on both systems)

    I am using Ninject and ADO.Net Entity Framework in my Aps.Net (Mvc) website. I bind the ObjectContext to Ninject using the RequestScope: Bind<Entities>().ToSelf().InRequestScope().WithConstructorArgument("connectionString", _connectionString); In most cases this works perferct. But sometimes I got the following error: The ObjectContext instance has been disposed and can no longer be used for operations that require a connection. This error occurs at different positions while getting, updating, inserting or deleting data. In some cases this error occurs until I reset my webapp and sometimes it disappears after some requests. I am displeased that I have no more details. Because it seems that there is no pattern when and where this error occurs. Because the time and position is allways different :( Some hints or ideas?

    Hi everybody, Pretty new to Entity Framework I must admit, but I simply cannot believe that there is no built-in solution for this problem. Let's say I create an EntityCommand: EntityCommand cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text; cmd.CommandText = commandText; And let's say the the commandText is something like this: SELECT sp.UserName, sp.Rights FROM EntityContext.Users as sp WHERE sp.UserName=@UserName Now it would be really neat if the Parameters collection of cmd could be automatically filled. The framework should obviously know the types etc. but I guess that's simply not how it works beneath. The problem is that the commandText is configurable on run-time, and I must show some GUI that asks for values of the parameters. Any idea on how this could be accomplished?   • Entity Framework 4 relationship management in POCO Templates - More lazy than FixupCollection?

    I've been taking a look at EF4 POCO templates in beta 2. The FixupCollection looks fine for maintaining the model correctness after updating the relationship collection property (i.e. product.Orders it would set the order.Product reference ). But what about support for handling the scenario when some of those Order objects are removed from the context? The use-case of maintaining cascading deletes in the in-memory model. The old Typed DataSet model used to do this by performing the query through the container to derive the relationship results. Like the DataSet, this would require a reference to the ObjectContext inside the entity class so that it could query the top-level Order collection. Better support for Separation of Concerns in the ObjectContext would be required. It looks like EF is not suited to this use-case that DataSets did out of the box.... am I right?

    I´m trying out entity framework included in VS2010 but ´ve hit a problem with my database/model generated from the graphical interface. When I do: user = dataset.UserSet.CreateObject(); user.Id = Guid.NewGuid(); dataset.UserSet.AddObject(user); dataset.SaveChanges(); {"Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'Id', table 'BarSoc2.dbo.UserSet'; column does not allow nulls.     Reading this MSDN article titled "Working with ObjectSet (Entity Framework)" It shows two examples on how to add a Product.. one for 3.5 and another for 4.0. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee473442.aspx Through my lack of knowledge I am possibly completely missing something here, but i never added a Product like this: //In .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, use the following code: (ObjectQuery) using (AdventureWorksEntities context = new AdventureWorksEntities()) { // Add the new object to the context. context.AddObject("Products", newProduct); } //New in .NET Framework 4, use the following code: (ObjectSet) using (AdventureWorksEntities context = new AdventureWorksEntities()) { // Add the new object to the context. context.Products.AddObject(newProduct); } I would not have done it either way and just used: // (My familiar way) using (AdventureWorksEntities context = new AdventureWorksEntities()) { // Add the new object to the context. context.AddToProducts(newProduct); } What's the difference between these three ways?   • Is the first persistance of an Entity Data Model in EF 4.0 slower due to the connection cost ?

    Hi, I've got a console app written that persists an object graph via Entity Framework 4.0. I loop through this to dump the execution times for each persistance. The first persistance is always the largest. Is this due to EF making the initial connection to the database and/or JIT'ing ? Here's a sample of the output: Persisted graph in **3318** millseconds.   • What is the best way to implement an object cache with Entity Framework?

    Say I have a table of "BlogPosts" in a database and i want to be able to cache the ones that were retrieved already in memory, for further reads, I can just use a standard hashtable type memory cache like System.Web.Caching.Cache, but if i then need to update a property on one of these blog posts e.g. blogPost.Title and update the record in DB, i cannot do this without fetching it again from database as the Entity Framework context used to fetch this record when it was loaded into my cache is already disposed? How do I write code so that I am getting an object from my cache, updating one property and just calling the SaveChanges method without incurring an extra read.

  • Entity framework (3.5): How to translate a certain LINQ query to eSQL?

    Hi there, I have the following LINQ query that I need to translate to Entity SQL /eSQL): return (ObjectQuery<User>) from user in Users where !user.Roles.Any(r => r.AnIntegerProperty < 0) select user; User.Roles is an navigation property to the n:m relation to Roles and there also is a Role.Users navigation property the other way round. There aren't User_Roles or Roles_User Entities available in the model, and I can't add these. I also can't use the LINQ statement here, because I need to add .OrderBy("it." + propertyname) (comes from another source, can't change that too) later on which is not possible if the ObjectQuery is build with linq. So how do I translate this to eSQL? And where can I find good eSQL samples? I searched for a whole day until now and must admit that eSQL reference is lousy and there aren't any usable examples around the web.
