    I was following the MVCMusic tutorial with an machine with full sql server 2008 r2 and full visual studio professional and when I got to the page where it sets up membership (near page 66) the Web administration tool wont work, i got the following error: An error was encountered.     I have my own html helper extension, wich I use this way <%=Html.LocalizableLabelFor(model => model.Reason_ID, Register.PurchaseReason) %> which declared like this. public static MvcHtmlString LocalizableLabelFor<T>(this HtmlHelper<T> helper, Expression<Func<T, object>> expr, string captionValue) where T : class { return helper.LocalizableLabelFor(ExpressionHelper.GetExpressionText(expr), captionValue); } but when I open it in debugger expr.Body.ToString() will show me Convert(model.Reason_ID). But should model.Reason_ID. That's a big problem, becouse ExpressionHelper.GetExpressionText(expr) returns empty string. What a strange magic is that? How can I get rid of it?

    Hi, I'm trying to get authentication and authorisation working in an ASP .NET MVC2 site. I've read loads of tutorials and some books which explain how you can use attributes to require authorisation (and membership in a role) like this: [Authorize(Roles="Admin")] public ActionResult Index() { return View(); } I've made classes that implement IIdentity and IPrincipal, I create a userPrincipal object once the user has successfully logged in and I add it to a session variable. When the user goes to another page I want it to set the HttpContext.Current.User to the object that I stored in the session, something like this: if (Session["User"] != null) { HttpContext.Current.User = Session["User"] as MyUser; } My question is: Where abouts do I put the code directly above? I tried Application_AuthenticateRequest but it tells me Session state is not available in this context. Many thanks.

    I am working on an MVC2 application and want to set the maxlength attributes of the text inputs. I have already defined the stringlength attribute on the Model object using data annotations and it is validating the length of entered strings correctly. I do not want to repeat the same setting in my views by setting the max length attribute manually when the model already has the information. Is there any way to do this?     Hi, I am looking at ASP.NET MVC2 and trying to post a complex object using the new EditorFor syntax. I have a FraudDto object that has a FraudCategory child object and I want to set this object from the values that are posted from the form. Posting a simple object is not a problem but I am struggling with how to handle complex objects with child objects. I have the following parent FraudDto object whcih I am binding to on the form: public class FraudDto { public FraudCategoryDto FraudCategory { get; set; } public List<FraudCategoryDto> FraudCategories { get; private set; } public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> FraudCategoryList { get { return FraudCategories.Select(t => new SelectListItem { Text = t.Name, Value = t.Id.ToString() }); } The child FraudCategoryDto object looks like this: public class FraudCategoryDto { public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } On the form, I have the following code where I want to bind the FraudCategoryDto to the dropdown. The view is of type ViewPage: <td class="tac"> <strong>Category:</strong> </td> <td> <%= Html.DropDownListFor(x => x.FraudCategory, Model.FraudTypeList)%> </td> I then have the following controller code: [HttpPost] public virtual ViewResult SaveOrUpdate(FraudDto fraudDto) { return View(fraudDto); } When the form is posted to the server, the FraudCategory property of the Fraud object is null.     Using the NerdDinner 2.0 source code, I was trying to emulate its use of OpenID. All was fine and good until I ran into this line of code.. ( seen in the source code at : http://nerddinner.codeplex.com/sourcecontrol/network/Show?projectName=nerddinner&changeSetId=46375#952606 ) - ( trunk/nerddinner/services/OpenIdRelyingPartyService.cs ) public ActionResult ProcessAjaxOpenIdResponse() { return relyingParty.ProcessAjaxOpenIdResponse().AsActionResult(); } ProcessAjaxOpenIdResponse doesn't exist, though! If I download the nerddinner application and follow the dependancies, I can see that the OpenAuth library they use has this method. However, getting the newest version from http://www.dotnetopenauth.net/ - the library does not have this method. Any ideas on what happened to it, and what I should use instead?

    I am getting the following error on one of our production servers. Not sure why it is working on the DEV server? Parser Error Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately. Parser Error Message: Could not load type 'TestMvcApplication.MvcApplication'. Source Error: Line 1: <%@ Application Codebehind="Global.asax.cs" Inherits="TestMvcApplication.MvcApplication" Language="C#" % Source File: /global.asax Line: 1 Not sure if anybody came across this error before and how it was solved, but I have reached the end.   • Cannot debug views in MVC2 project, getting "The resource cannot be found" error

    I'm running Visual Studio 2008 sp1 on Win7, with MVC2 RTM installed. I created a new MVC2 project using the wizard and am unable to debug specific pages. With webforms and even MVC1, I was able to sit on a View page, hit F5, and then have the integrated web server in VS2008 start on the page I was working on. Very handy for building up app logic. When I try this now I get a "The resource cannot be found" error page. I retried this just now with a stock new MVC2 Web Application project. Here are the steps I took after creating the new project to reproduce: Open up project settings. Under the Web subtab, set the Start Action to "Current Page". Leave all the other settings as is. Open one of the views up (e.g. Account/Register.aspx) Hit F5 to debug the project Note that the browser window which displays shows the error message "The resource cannot be found". The link I saw in my browser for this run was: http://localhost:49471/Views/Account/Register.aspx I did some googling and found suggestions related to ensuring all HTTP server pieces were installed. I double checked and made sure that "HTTP Errors" and "HTTP Redirection" were both installed. If I leave the project setting as it was originally, set to "Specific Page" with nothing in the text box, then routing works and I always get the default home page. I'm hoping this isn't the only option. Thanks!

  • Calling a MVC2 partial view using jquery returns empty string problem

    I have an issue where I have a partial view that returns some HTML to be displayed. Its called when something is clicked on the page using jquery. The problem is that no matter how I call it, i get back an empty string even though it reports success. This is happening to me using Chrome, going against my local machine. My controller looks like this: public ActionResult MyPartialView() { return PartialView(model); } I have tried jquery using .get(), .post() and .load() and all have the same results. Here is an example using .post(): $.post(url, function (data) { alert(data); }); The result always comes back as an empty string. I can navigate to the partial view in the browser manually and i get back the desired HTML. The URL I am using to call it I resolved fully so it looks like "http://localhost/controller/mypartialview" rather than using the relative path of "/controller/mypartialview" which I thought was the original problem. Any idea what may cause this?

    I've tried wrapping my <system.web> with <location path="." InheritInChildApplications="false"> like this <location path="." InheritInChildApplications="false"> <system.web>...</system.web> </location> But VS 2010 Web Developer Express keeps saying "The 'InheritInChildApplications' attribute is not allowed" and when I run my web app there's an error: "HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid." Config Error Unrecognized attribute 'InheritInChildApplications'. I've seen some smartguys all over the Internet discussing this and how it is working for them but there's much larger number of people here at SO and other places that did not get this to work.
