  • Intents? How to register to be alerted for incoming emails?

    Extreme Android developer newbie here...well, new to Android development, not development in general. I want to write an application that gets notified when emails come into the device, and takes various actions based on data in the email (subject, sender, to, etc). I think what I have to do is create a BroadcastReceiver with an IntentFilter. The problem I'm having is figuring out what Intent(s) I need to "listen" for. Can anyone point me in the right direction?     I'm a little bit confused about the difference between the two. An example of the Calendar API is supposedly located here: http://samples.google-api-java-client.googlecode.com/hg/calendar-android-sample/instructions.html, but the author himself suggests using the Calendar Provider API, details about which are here: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/providers/calendar-provider.html. Can someone explain to me the difference between the two, and which would be better for me to use for a simple calendar app?

    I have an ASP.NET MVC site that uses both Microsoft Ajax [Ajax.BeginForm()] and jQuery to make asynchronous requests. I want to configure both frameworks such that a generic error handler is automatically attached if the developer does not explicitly specify a failure callback. In jQuery I can accomplish this with either .ajaxSetup() or .ajaxError(). What is the equivalent in the Microsoft Ajax client library? I'm fairly sure it's something in the Sys object but I can't find it...

    Sometimes I watch screen casts where someone is using text mate. I'm a rails developer, so these are rails screen casts. They'll type something like: def for example and "end" will automatically appear underneath. I do have the bundle for Rails enabled - why doesn't this happen for me? Thanks!

  • Parallel Dev: Should developers work within the same branch?

    Should multiple developers work within the same branch, and update - modify - commit ? Or should each developer have his/her own each branch exclusively? And how would sharing branches impact an environment where you are doing routine maintenance as opposed to unmaintained code streams? Also, how would this work if you deploy each developers work as soon as it is done and passes testing (rapidly, as opposed to putting all of their work into a single release).

    Hi there, Is there a way to change the name that displays on the AppStore, rather than the name associated with the credit card/apple ID associated with the developer programme? For example, if my name on my credit card was foo, and the name on the apple ID was foo, but I actually want the name displayed on the AppStore (i.e. next to my App's name and details) to be bar.     I am writing a java servlet (struts/JSP etc). I am trying to style a progress bar using CSS in a JSP page but get this error when using chrome's developer tools: Resource interpreted as image but transferred with MIME type text/plain. <%@ include file="../include/css/default.css" % And in the CSS file: background:url(../images/bg_bar.gif) no-repeat 0 0; Could anyone explain why this is and show how I can use this CSS in my page?

We decided to use another statistics plugin which can connect to a different database server (the first plugin couldn't!) however we need parts of the first plugin. I want to lock the statistics table to prevent misusage (not allowed to drop it by the developer) So I was wondering if a lock table could do this or if I can implement some sort of read only table

    Please, have a look at: http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/base-css.html There are many examples like this one: if you look closer to the block borders, you can see that the gray block is under the white one. Using the browser's developer tools you can see that both boxes have an inherited z-index: auto; I can't reproduce this effect on my website (without using z-index). So, my question is: Why is the gray block under the white one?

  • Low-traffic WordPress website on Apache keeps crashing server

    I have recently moved my low-moderate traffic (1000 UAUs, 5000 pageviews on a busy day) website from shared hosting to a Centos 6 64-bit VPS with Apache and cPanel running on 4 quad-core processor (likely oversold) and 3GB memory (Xen). We've had problems from the beginning. The server keeps crashing. It seems PHP keeps expanding till it consumes all the memory and crashes the server. Some folks have suggested that I should abandon Apache/cPanel/PHP/mySQL and go with nginX/Varnish/PHP-FPM/SQLite. But that's just not possible for me as I am not very tech savvy and need a simple GUI like cPanel to be able to manage the mundane management tasks (can't afford to hire system administrator or get fully managed hosting). I have come across several posts discussing optimization of Apache for WordPress. But all of these lead to articles that are pretty dated such as this ~4 year old one from Jan 2009 - http://thethemefoundry.com/blog/optimize-apache-wordpress/ The article is pretty detailed and seems helpful, but I stumble even on the first step. My httpd.conf only has 2 loadmodule commands LoadModule fastinclude_module modules/mod_fastinclude.so LoadModule bwlimited_module modules/mod_bwlimited.so So I go total bust right there. Further, my httpd.conf says Direct modifications to the Apache configuration file may be lost upon subsequent regeneration of the configuration file. To have modifications retained, all modifications must be checked into the configuration system by running: /usr/local/cpanel/bin/apache_conf_distiller I am having trouble finding where to change the modules in WHM. Please can someone help me with updated guidelines on how to optimize Apache for WordPress? Many thanks! P.S. The WordPress installation also has WP Super Cache installed. P.P.S. I also have phpBB, OpenCart, and Menalto Gallery installed.
