• NoClassDefFoundError when trying to reference external jar files

  I have some 3rd party jar files that I want to reference in my tomcat web application. I added this line to catalina.properties: shared.loader=/home/ollie/dev/java/googleapi_samples/gdata/java/lib/*.jar but I'm still getting this error: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: javax.servlet.ServletException: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/google/gdata/util/ServiceException org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServletWrapper.handleJspException(JspServletWrapper.java:491) org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServletWrapper.service(JspServletWrapper.java:401) org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet.serviceJspFile(JspServlet.java:313) org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet.service(JspServlet.java:260) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:717) I verified that the com.google.gdata.util.ServiceException is in the gdata-core-1.0.jar file which is in the directory: /home/ollie/dev/java/googleapi_samples/gdata/java/lib I did bounce tomcat after I modified catalina.properties. Update 1: I tried copying the gdata-core-1.0.jar file into /var/lib/tomcat6/webapp/examples/WEB-INF/lib as a test but that didn't fix the problem either. Update 2: It actually does work when I copy the jar file directly into the WEB-INF/lib directory. There was a permissions issue that I had to resolve. But it's still not working when I use the shared.loader setting. I reconfirmed that the path is correct.

• Cant get Tomcat6.0 to work with Windows 7 Environment

  Prior to upgrading to windows 7, I was able to use Tomcat 6.0, but when I upgraded to the new Windows, and downloaded Eclipse EE, and downloaded the apache content, I am unable to get Apache to run. When I attempt to start my apacher server through either system tray, or even windows services, it gives the followign error screen. "Windows could not start the Apache Tomcat 6 on local computer. For more information review the system event log. Refer to server specific error code 0." I have been able to locate some forums about error code 0, and some other documentation on this problem, but none of the solutions seems to work. One of the solutions I came across said to take the msvcr71.dll (mscvrt.dll on new platforms) and put it into the bin folder of apache. This also did not work. Does anybody know a fix for this problem, or a way to get around it so I can get my server up and running thanks.

  I have started a maven project trying to implement the MapReduce algorithm in java 1.5.0_14. I have chosen the 0.20.2 API hadoop version. In the pom.xml i'm using thus the following dependency: < dependency < groupId>org.apache.hadoop< /groupId> < artifactId>hadoop-core< /artifactId> < version>0.20.2< /version> < /dependency But when I'm using an import to the org.apache.hadoop classes, I get the following error: bad class file: ${HOME_DIR}\repository\org\apache\hadoop\hadoop-core\0.20.2\hadoop-core-0.20.2.jar(org/apache/hadoop/fs/Path.class) class file has wrong version 50.0, should be 49.0. Does someone know how can I solve this issue. Thanks.

  Is there a way to control the output filenames of an Hadoop Streaming job? Specifically I would like my job's output files content and name to be organized by the ket the reducer outputs - each file would only contain values for one key and its name would be the key. Essentially, I want each call to the AsyncTask to run, eventually in an infinite while loop, and update the TextView fields as I have attempted in setValues. I have tried since yesterday after asking a question which led to this code, for reference. Oh yes, I did try using the AsyncTask get() method, but that didn't work either as I found out that it is actually a synchronous call, and renders the whole point of AsyncTask useless.

  I'd like to have my Axis2 Web Service read from a configuration file, whose name is sent as a parameter to the service. Where is the best place to put this file? And How to best access it? Examples welcome. I've checked the current directory is the Apache/Tomcat/bin file, I could put it in the parent directory, or put it into a Apache/Tomcat/conf, although this looks like it's more reserved for apache configuration itself.

I would like to install python-psyco to improve the performance of one of my scripts, but only python-psyco-doc is available for 64 bit. I tried a virtual machine, but the the performance boost is much less on the virtual machine than on a "real" installed 32-bit Ubuntu. • puppet rspec no such file to load -- rspec-puppet (LoadError)

  I have no prior experience at all of ruby. I am not interested in ruby (and so have no knowledge of rails etc) as such but am using puppet to manage a group of servers. I have written some modules and the rspec-puppet system looks like it would be very useful. • Would you re-design completely under .Net?

  A very extensive application began as an Access-based system (for database storage). Forms were written in VB5 and/or VB6. As .Net became a fixture in the development community, certain modules have been rewritten. This seems very awkward and potentially costly just to maintain because of the cross-technologies and extra work to keep the two technologies happy with each other. Of course, the application uses a mix of ODBC OleDb and MySql. Would you think spending the time and resources to completely re-develop the application under .Net would be more cost effective? In an effort to develop a more stable application, wouldn't it make sense to use .Net? Or continue chasing Access bugs, adding new features in .Net (which may or may not create new bugs between .Net and Access), and rewriting old Access modules into .Net modules under time constraints that prevent proper design and development? Update The application uses OleDb and MySql - I corrected my previous statement. Also, to lend further support to rewriting: I have since found out that when the "porting" to .Net began, the VBA/VB6 code that existed was basically translated to the .Net equivalent. From my understanding, nothing was done to improve performance, or take advantage of new libraries or technologies. In my opinion, this creates a very fragile and unstable application. With every new update, this becomes more and more visible. As a help desk technician, I have noticed an increase in problems reported. The customers using the software have noticed an increase in problems and are commenting on it.

• Cannot get realtek8188ee to work in 14.04

  I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-A5300 laptop. When I run lspci -nn it shows 02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8188EE Wireless Network Adapter [10ec:8179] (rev 01) It has always had the common problem others have asked about here (and many, many other places on the web) where it would connect, then drop the connection at random intervals. I tried every solution I could find, here & elsewhere, and they always caused errors after running "make" (more details below), but as I could still connect to networks I just dealt with it. I upgraded to 14.04 a few days ago and now it won't connect at all - I need help getting this to work.   My system is Ubuntu 11.10 64bit and i have to run a 32bit version of eclipse to use the TI plugins for CCSv5 but it doesn't work. I tried to run eclipse in a 62bit java environment but it doesn't even start. • Encrypted home breaks on login

  My home is encrypted, which breaks the login. Gnome and other services try to find all sorts of .files, write to them, read from them and so on. E.g. .ICEauthority. They are not found (yet) because at that moment the home is still encrypted. I do not have automatic login set, since that has known issues with encrypted home in Ubuntu. When I go trough the following steps, there is no problem: boot up the system. [ctr][alt][F1], login. run ecryptfs-mount-private [ctr][alt][F7], done. Can now login. I may have some setting wrong, but have no idea where. I suspect ecryptfs-mount-private should be ran earlier in bootstrap, but do not know how to make it so. Some issues that may cause trouble: I have a fingerprint reader, it works for login and PAM. I have three keyrings in seahorse, containing passwords from old machines (backups). Not just one. • Frequent Disconnects with an Intel 3945ABG Wireless Card

  I'm brand new to Ubuntu, and I really love it so far, but one issue I have encountered is that my WLAN is disconnecting about every 5-10 minutes. Often times the connection is repaired automatically, but sometimes the network manager will repeatedly reject my encryption key (which of course is correct). Occasionally after a disconnect, the wireless network fails to show up at all. The only way I can solve this seems to be by completely restarting Ubuntu or connecting with a USB wireless adapter. I am using WPA/WPA2 encryption, which I've read can cause problems with network-manager, but I experience the exact same issues with WICD. I should probably note that I've not experienced any of these issues using Windows 7 on my other partition. I have a hunch that there may be a better driver out there for my card, but I have no idea how to go about searching for it or installing it. • Upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10 in a VirtualBox: Gnome desktop not working

  I had Ubuntu 13.04 running in a VirtualBox (the host is WinXP). I've upgraded it to 13.10 but I've some issues: Gnome desktop is not working correctly (I can log in but the main menu bar remains empty - I can only log out with CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE) I cannot build and install the VirtualBox Guest Addons: When trying to build it, it says: me@virtuntu:/etc/init.d$ sudo ./vboxadd setup Removing existing VirtualBox DKMS kernel modules ...done. Removing existing VirtualBox non-DKMS kernel modules ...done. Building the VirtualBox Guest Additions kernel modules The headers for the current running kernel were not found. If the following module compilation fails then this could be the reason. Building the main Guest Additions module ...done. Building the shared folder support module ...fail! (Look at /var/log/vboxadd-install.log to find out what went wrong) Doing non-kernel setup of the Guest Additions ...done. • Why maven so slow compared to automake?

  I have a Maven project consists of around 100 modules. I have reason to decompose the project to so many modules, and I don't think I should merge them in order to speed up the build process. I have read a lot of projects by other people, e.g., the Maven project itself, and Apache Archiva, and Hudson project, they all consists of a lot of modules, nearly 100 maybe, more or less. The problem is, to build them all need so much time, 3 hours for the first time build (this is acceptable because a lot of artifacts to download), and 15 minutes for the second build (this is not acceptable). For automake, things are similarly, the first time you need to configure the project, to prepare the magical config.h file, it's far more complex then what maven does. But it's still fast, maybe 10 seconds on my Debian box. After then, make install requires maybe 10 minutes for the first time build. However, when everything get prepared, the .o object files are generated, they don't have to be rebuild at all for the second time build. (In Maven, everything rebuild at everytime.) I'm very wondering, how guys working for Maven projects can bare this long time for each build, I'm just can't sit down calmly during each time Maven build, it took too long time, really.

• Synchronous vs. asynchronous for publish subscribe communication between JavaScript objects

  I implemented the publish subscribe pattern in a JavaScript module to be used by entirely client-side oriented JavaScript objects. This module has nothing to do with client-server communications in any way, shape or form. My question is whether it's better for the publish method in such a module to be synchronous or asynchronous, and why. As a very simplified example let's say I'm building a custom UI for an HTML5 video player widget: One of my modules is the "video" module that contains the VIDEO element and handles the various features and events associated with that element. This would probably have a namespace something like "widgets.player.video." Another is the "controls" module that has the various buttons - play, pause, volume, scrub, fullscreen, etc. This might have a namespace along the lines of "widgets.player.controls." These two modules are children of a parent "player" module ("widgets.player" ??), and as such would have no inherent knowledge of each other when instantiated as children of the "player" object. The "controls" elements would obviously need to be able to effect some changes on the video (click "Play" and the video should play), and vice versa (video's "timeUpdate" event fires and the visual display of the current time in the controls should update). I could tightly couple these modules and pass references to each other, but I'd rather take a more loosely coupled approach by setting up a pubsub type module that both can subscribe to and publish from. SO (thanks for bearing with me) in this kind of a scenario is there an advantage one way or another for synchronous publication versus asynchronous publication? I've seen some solutions posted online that allow for either/or with a boolean flag whereas others automatically do it asynchronously. I haven't personally seen an implementation that just automatically goes with synchronous publication... is this because there's no advantage to it? I know that I can accomplish this with features provided by jQuery, but it seems that there may be too much overhead involved here. The publish subscribe pattern can be implemented with relatively lightweight code designed specifically for this particular purpose so I'd rather go with that then a more general purpose eventing system like jQuery's (which I'll use for more general eventing needs :-).
