  I created a console application in C# and running it on windows/.NET is 5x faster than on linux/mono or windows/mono. The app encodes some binary files into text format(JSON). I profiled the app on linux/mono using: mono --profile=default:stat myconsoleapp.exe Here is the first part of the result: prof counts: total/unmanaged: 32274/25062 23542 72.95 % mono 459 1.42 % System.Decimal:Divide (System.Decimal,System.Decimal) 457 1.42 % System.Decimal:Round (System.Decimal,int,System.MidpointRounding) 411 1.27 % /lib/libz.so.1 262 0.81 % /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6(memmove 253 0.78 % System.Decimal:IsZero () 247 0.77 % System.NumberFormatter:Init (string,double,int) 213 0.66 % System.NumberFormatter:AppendDigits (int,int) 72.95 % mono? • PyDev and Django: how to restart dev server?

  I'm new to Django. I think I'm making a simple mistake. I launched the dev server with Pydev: RClick on project Django Custom command runserver The server came up, and everything was great. But now I'm trying to stop it, and can't figure out how. I stopped the process in the PyDev console, and closed Eclipse, but web pages are still being served from http://127.0.0.1:8000. I launched and quit the server from the command line normally: python manage.py runserver But the server is still up. What am I doing wrong here?

• How to Store Cookies in Ruby?

  I am programmatcally accessing authenticated content in my CDN on Google App Engine, and it's returning a cookie that I'm supposed to store: {"set-cookie"=>"ACSID=cookie-hash; expires=Mon, 12-Apr-2010 01:56:06 GMT; path=/"} What do I do with that? This is my first time dealing with Cookies. I can put in the header of the next request, but what's the recommended way to store that? I'm testing this with irb in the console and when I exit and try again, the cookie is gone. How do I save it for a few days/weeks? I'm using pure ruby without Rails or anything. Thanks so much.

• Geolocation Null in lat and long

  I have had issue today in one application where Geolocation is not working. Even on this page http://slaveryfootprint.org/survey/#where_do_you_live . When you enter a location , its showing null lattiude and longitude. Even though it search for autolocation, it can point the right location. and it happened all if a sudden today which was working fine since yestrday night and when I see in console it is returning null lat and long and null for city and I did not change the code at all. • App crashes when adding array data to table cells

  I am trying to create a table view that loads a number of tweets into the table (one per cell etc). I am using NSXMLParser to get the information and have got as far as creating an array with the selection of tweets that I want. However, when I try to add them to the table cells, the app crashes on the line: cell.textLabel.text = cellValue; An NSLog before this shows in the console that the app is getting the correct data, so I am a bit stumped as to why this isn't working. • JSF actionListener is called multiple times from within HtmlTable

I'm using custom tags, but it's the same behavior if I use the default column tags. I've noticed a very strange effect: when clicking the actionlistenercolumn, the actionevent is handled 3 times. If I remove the 2 action columns then the actionevent is handled only once.   I know it's a Windows PE32, but I also know that the unit of deployment in .NET is an assembly which in turn has a manifest and can be made up of multiple managed modules. My questions are : 1) How would you create multiple managed modules when building a project such as a class lib or a console app etc. 2) Is there a way to specify this to the compiler(via the project properties for example) to partition your source code files into multiple managed modules. If so what is the benefit of doing so? 3)Can managed modules span assemblies? 4)Are separate file created on disk when the source code is compiled or are these created in memory and directly embedded in an assembly?

  Im trying to get all the entrys from a sqlite Database which have the same name as the keys in a Hashtable. Is it impossible to add a ICollection as a Parameter Value so i need to start the reader only one time?

• how to have separate keys per record in mongo_mapper + Rails

  When I'm adding a record in mongodb I can specify whatever keys I want and it will store it in the db. The problem is that it will remember those keys for the next time I insert another record. so for example if I do the following: Product.create :foo => 123 and then Product.create :bar => 456 I get :foo => nil field in the 2nd record. This is definitely not a limitation of mongodb itself, since if I restart the rails console and create yet another record with different set of columns, it will not add the columns from the 1st 2 records. So it seems like mongomapper remembers all the keys used and inserts them all into all records, even if values are not provided. The question is obviously: how do I disable this crazy attributes explosion? Basically I want only the 'permanent' keys that I specify in the model to be in every record, but all the 'extra' attributes to be specified per record and not to mess the consequent records.

• Is it possible to destroy a CDI scope?

  I'm working on a Java EE application, primarily JAX-RS with a JSF admin console, that uses CDI/Weld for dependency injection with @ApplicationScoped objects. Minor debugging issues aside, CDI has worked beautifully for this project. Now I need some very coarse-grained control over CDI-injected object lifecycles. I need the ability to: Remove an injected object from the application context, or Destroy/delete/clear/reset/remove the entire application context, or Define my own @ScopeType and implementing Context in which I could provide methods to perform one of the two above tasks. I'm fully aware that this is across, if not against, the grain of CDI and dependency injection in general. I just want to know Is this remotely possible? If yes, what is the easiest/simplest/quickest/foolproofiest way to get the job done?

  I'm attempting to use the Interactive Brokers ActiveX API, but I'm having a little trouble: error CS0012: The type 'System.Windows.Forms.AxHost' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Windows.Forms, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. My code: namespace DataFeed.Gateway { class IBGateway : IGateway { private AxTWSLib.AxTws tws; //<-- the error line //... } } I have a console application, so I'm wondering if that might be the reason why ActiveX is not working... or is there something else going on here? Maybe I should add the AxTWSlib.dll to the GAC, but do I really have to? If I add the dll as a resource, then I thought that I don't need to add it to the GAC. Note: I've dropped the AxTWSlib.dll in my project folder and I've added it to the project references... no problems there.

• SoundPool.load() and FileDescriptor from file

  I tried using the load function of the SoundPool that takes a FileDescriptor, because I wanted to be able to set the offset and length. The File is not stored in the Ressources but a file on the storage card. Even though neither the load nor the play function of the SoundPool throw any Exception or print anything to the console, the sound is not played. Using the same code, but use the file path string in the SoundPool constructor works perfectly. This is how I have tried the loading (start equals 0 and length is the length of the file in miliseconds): FileInputStream fileIS = new FileInputStream(new File(mFile)); mStreamID = mSoundPool.load(fileIS.getFD(), start, length, 0); mPlayingStreamID = mSoundPool.play(mStreamID, 1f, 1f, 1, 0, 1f); If I would use this, it works: mStreamID = mSoundPool.load(mFile, 0); mPlayingStreamID = mSoundPool.play(mStreamID, 1f, 1f, 1, 0, 1f); Any ideas anyone? • Viewing, building & debugging Borland C++ Builder project in Visual Studio 2010

  I would like to use VC2010 to handle a BCB 2006 project I have. I do not want to convert the code to VC since much UI will need to be ported. I just want to be able to view build & debug from VS IDE. Viewing: I assume once I create VS projects for the native BCB code viewing will be possible, although the UI editor will not. Building: I found the "C++ Native Multi-Targeting" option of VS, although I'm not sure on what to set the different options there to (Daffodil is mentioned as helpful although I'm not sure what the added value is over existing functionality). Debugging: not sure how to do this at all from within VS. There are some stand alone console tools that convert debug info files e.g. tds2pdb (wheres the documentation link?). If anyone has experience with such a task I would thank you for any advice.

• How are dll's loaded by the CLR?

  My assumption was always that the CLR loaded all of the dlls it needed on startup of the app domain. However, I've written an example that makes me question this assumption. I start up my application and check to see how many modules are loaded. Process[] ObjModulesList; ProcessModuleCollection ObjModulesOrig; //Get all modules inside the process ObjModulesList = Process.GetProcessesByName("MyProcessName"); // Populate the module collection. ObjModulesOrig = ObjModulesList[0].Modules; Console.WriteLine(ObjModulesOrig.Count.ToString()); I then repeate the exact same code and my count is different. The additional dll is C:\WINNT\system32\version.dll. I'm really confused as to why the counts would be different. Could someone please elaborate on what the clr is doing and how it's loading these thing, and by what logic it's doing so?

  for a Java project for a University Class I have a method that saves ASCII images as a uniline string and another method called toString rebuilds this ASCII image and returns as a string. When I run my program on the Eclipse my output looks on console alright and multiline, and there are line breaks where they should be.   I am trying to set up a MySQL trigger that does the following: When someone inserts data into databaseA.bills, it verifies if databaseB.bills already has that row, if it doesn't, then it does an additional insert into databaseB.bills. Here is what I have: CREATE TRIGGER ins_bills AFTER INSERT ON databaseA.bills FOR EACH ROW BEGIN IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM databaseB.bills WHERE billNumber=NEW.billNumber) THEN INSERT INTO databaseB.bills (billNumber) VALUES (NEW.billNumber) END IF END;// DELIMITER ; The problem is, I can't create it through mysql console or phpMyAdmin. It returns syntax errors near END IF END, and I am sure it's a delimiter problem. #1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'END IF END' at line 6 What am I doing wrong?

• I am not able launch JNLP aaplications using "Java Web Start"?

  Up until recently, I was able to launch/open JNLP files in Firefox using Java web start. Don't know what happened all of a sudden JNLP files stopped launching, a splash screen appears saying Java Starting... and then nothing happens. Even the Java Console in the browser and javacpl.cpl applet doesn't open. Tried all possibilities: removed all older version and installed the latest JRE (java version "1.6.0_17"), still it doesn't work. Done some googling for this problem, people suggested to start javaws.exe with -viewer option but same behavior (a splash screen appears saying "Java Starting..." and then disappears) The problem is that I don't know any place (logs etc.) to look for to see what is causing the problem. I am using WinXP SP3, and some of the screenshots below shows further info about my system. I can provide any other detail if required but please help me solve this problem. Update: Although this question is bit old, Following solution fixed above issue for me (indeed this was the actual cause)

• Using ModalAlert from cookbook - app does not load

  I'm using iphone cookbook code to prompt a user for text in a UIAlertView. The cookbook code is available at http://github.com/erica/iphone-3.0-cookbook-/tree/master/C10-Alerts/03-Soliciting%20Text/ In my AppDelegate, applicationDidFinishLaunching(), I invoke as below NSString *str = [ModalAlert ask:@"what is your name?" withTextPrompt:@"ATTUID"]; But my app does not finish loading at all. I get a black screen indefinitely. There are no messages in the console. I tried creating just a UIAlertView with UITextField in the above function and it displays properly. (commenting out her code) Commenting out "CFRunLoopRun()" also loads the app. I'm probably doing something stupid but can't seem to figure it out.

• Simple XML parsing with Google Picasa API and JQuery

  I'm starting to look into Google's Picasa API for photo data, which provides you with a big XML file with info about albums and photos. I'm doing some quick and dirty tests to parse the XML file (which is saved locally to my hard drive for now) with JQuery and pull out the album id's, which are stored as "gphoto:id" tags, and display them in a div: $(document).ready(function() { $.get( 'albums.xml', function(data) { $(data).find('entry').each(function() { var albumId = $(this).children('gphoto:id').text(); $('#photos').append(albumId + '<br />'); }) }) }) I'm getting the following error in the console: jquery.js:3321 - Uncaught Syntax error, unrecognized expression: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: id This will work with other tags in the XML file (such as title, author, updated, etc.), but I'm trying to understand what's going on here. Does it have to do with the colon in "gphoto:id", somehow?
