• How do I setup routing for two companies with different Internet connections on the same LAN?

  Here's the setup: Two companies (A & B) share office space and a LAN. A 2nd ISP is brought in and company A wants its own Internet connection (ISP A) and company B wants its own Internet connection (ISP B). VLANs are deployed internally to separate the two companies' networks (company A: VLAN 1, company B: VLAN 2, shared VOIP: VLAN 3). With separate VLANs it's simple enough to use separate DHCP servers (or separate scopes on the same server) to assign the default gateway to each company's gateway for their Internet connection. Static routes can be created on each gateway to point traffic destined for the other company's VLAN or the voice VLAN so that all nodes are reachable as expected. However, I think this is a form of asymmetrical routing, right? (The path from node A1 to node B1 is not the same as the path back from node B1 to node A1). Can I set up policy-based routing to correct this? In that case, can I assign the same default gateway to every device on all VLANs and create a routing policy on a L3 switch to look at the source address and forward traffic to the appropriate next hop? In that case, I want the routing logic to go like this: If the destination address is known, forward the traffic (traffic destined for a different VLAN). If the destination address is unknown, forward the traffic to ISP A's gateway if the source address is on VLAN A; or forward the traffic to ISP B's gateway if the source address is VLAN B. Am I thinking about this problem in the correct way? Is there another way to solve this problem that I am overlooking?

• Varnish going sick

  I'm having trouble with Varnish, it works for a couple of views and then just goes sick... The weird thing is that it does work for about 20 or 30 requests. If I call apache directly it works fine. I'm running Varnish Version: 3.0.3-1 on Debian Squeeze and, for now, Apache on port 80 and Varnish on port 8080 on the same server.. I'm using https://github.com/mattiasgeniar/varnish-3.0-configuration-templates as base for my VCLs and modified the VCLs to support Concrete5. • Cannot Add Particular Word to Dictionary

  I am trying to add a particular word to my custom dictionary using Word 2007. (The word happens to be "deserialized".) When I right-click on the word and click Add to Dictionary, the red underline does not go away. When I use the Spelling & Grammar tool from the Review tab on the ribbon, it will stop on that word; clicking the Add to Dictionary button has no effect. Oddly, I am able to add other words to the custom dictionary without a problem. I recently added "deserializes", for instance. I have only encountered this problem with that one particular word. Does anyone know what might be wrong and how I might fix it? Clarifications My document and all its content is set to English (United States). My custom dictionary is set to apply to All Languages, which is the default value. "Serialize" is in the US English default dictionary, but "deserialize" and its various forms is not.

• Windows 7 boot manager not localized on UEFI systems

  I originally posted this on SuperUser because I discovered this behaviour on my home computer, but this seems to be a general issue on UEFI systems, thus I'm posting here too; I also hope someone here can shed some light on what's going on. Italian version of Windows 7 x64 SP1, same installation media used for both situations. When running on BIOS systems, the boot manager is fully localized, both for the loading screen and for the F8 boot menu. • How to prevent the command prompt from closing after execution?

  My problem is that in Windows, there are command line windows that close immediately after execution. To solve this, I want the default behavior to be that the window is kept open. Normally, this behavior can be avoided with three methods that come to my mind: Putting a pause line after batch programs to prompt the user to press a key before exiting Running these batch files or other command line manipulating tools (even service starting, restarting, etc. with net start xy or anything similar) within cmd.exe(Start - Run - cmd.exe) Running these programs with cmd /k like this: cmd /k myprogram.bat But there are some other cases in which the user: Runs the program the first time and doesn't know that the given program will run in Command Prompt (Windows Command Processor) e.g. when running a shortcut from Start menu (or from somewhere else), OR Finds it a little bit uncomfortable to run cmd.exe all the time and doesn't have the time/opportunity to rewrite the code of these commands everywhere to put a pause after them or avoid exiting explicitly. I've read an article about changing default behavior of cmd.exe when opening it explicitly, with creating an AutoRun entry and manipulating its content in these locations: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Command Processor\AutoRun HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Command Processor\AutoRun (The AutoRun items are _String values_...) I put cmd /d /k as a value of it to give it a try, but this didn't change the behaviour of the stuffs mentioned above at all... It just changed the behaviour of the command line window when opening it explicitly (Start-Run-cmd.exe). So how does it work? Can you give me any ideas to solve this problem?

• Route outbound connections from local network through VPN

  I have a server A running OpenVPN, an OpenVPN client B (a rooted Android phone as it happens) and a third party C (a laptop, tablet etc.) tethered to B. B can use the VPN to access the internet via A; C can use the tethered connection WITHOUT the VPN to access the internet via B. However, with the VPN on B active, I cannot load information from the internet on C. A appears to log similar traffic inbound and outbound when B or C attempt to load a webpage, say, but the VPN on device B reports no inbound traffic when the connection originated from C. Where should I look for packets being dropped, and what ip rules should I use to make sure they are passed back through the VPN and into the local network B <- C? (I'll obviously post whatever further information is needed.) • Web shortcuts (.url) not working on Windows 7

  I'm experiencing several symptoms, but I believe they are all related to web link files not working. First, I can't create we link files anymore. When I try New Shortcut and put an URL, I get the following error message: Second, existent shortcuts are not working. The default context menu action (or double-click) is Print, which simply prints an empty page. If I try to see its properties, there's no URL there. Third, IE bookmarks are also not working. One difference is that the default action is Open, IE does nothing when I click it. Adding a new bookmark only creates one more dead link file. I'm almost sure this problem occurred after I tried to install IE 7 on Windows 7. Unfortunately, it didn't work because the OS seems to be bound to IE 8. I already tried to reinstall/repair IE 8, but it made no difference. Does anyone experienced a similar problem? I need a working solution, but I welcome any reasonable suggestion.

I've modified my conf file, however the IP in the "no-internet" acl is able to resolve the domains, even though I've rebooted the computer, flushed the DNS using ipconfig /flushdns and set my DNS Server as the only one, why is this still happening?   I have some problems reaching local network , where VPN Windows 2003 server stands. I have a network, which has a VPN server (LAN ip 10.0.0.201). I created a VPN server on that server with different subnet for VPN users (10.0.5.0). After VPN connection is initiated , i am able to acces only 10.0.0.201, but not other PC, which belongs to that network ( all i need to access 10.0.0.203 and 10.0.0.208). • Google Sites (via Apps) setup questions

  I thought that it would be a piece of cake to set up a Google site via Google Apps, but perhaps my previous (limited) experience with web development has given me unrealistic expectations. I have actually had a really tough time finding help with the exact question that I have, which is: How do I change the home page contents??? You see, I'm used to having hosting with someone like GoDaddy, where I can just ftp in and drop my HTML files in the www folder. From research I have found that this is simply not possible with any flavor of Google Sites. That's fine, I can live with it. So let's say I have www.mydomain.com. When I hit that URL, it redirects me to a very long URL (unfortunately) like https://sites.google.com/a/mydomain.com/sites/system/app/pages/meta/domainWelcome, which just says: Google Apps Welcome to mydomain.com If you are the domain administrator get started creating your home page with Google Sites Great! I want to do that. So I click on the "If you are the..." link and end up at a screen where I can choose a template, a name, and some visibility options. If I click on My Sites, there isn't a "default" site, i.e. the one that www.mydomain.com displays. I figured that maybe I just have to create a site first, so I went ahead and did that. My first test was to create a site that was publicly accessible. I thought that maybe if I did that, the Google would decide that this must be my home page since it's the only one. But it doesn't, and I still get the "Welcome to" page. Under "More Actions", I didn't see anything interesting except for "Manage site". I went in there and had a peek around, and didn't see anything about using this as the default home page. Am I looking for something that just doesn't exist? I can't believe there isn't a way to modify the "domain welcome to" page...

• Winodws server 2003 Setup

  I work at a university maintaining the computer science department server. I am looking for a more economical way to stream line the set up of student accounts. CS students are granted a Username and password an IIS virtual directory, FTP virtual directory, and a mysql database. Server is running windows server 2003R2 (Possibly migrating to 2008R2) The server is running a domain though no students physically log a terminal into it (No computers are part of my domain.) Creating the account is a manual process. I did right a PHP script to query the Universities AD and copy the information and write it to my AD. I then have to create basically the users home directory. I tried having AD do it but since the user never physically logs in it never creates the directory. Permissions on this folder are set to User - full, Instructors (group) - full, Users (group) - read, IUSER - read. Inside of the users folder their is a "Private" folder with permissions User - full, instructors (group) - full. Next step is IIS I create a virtual directory in the default web site pointed to the users home directory so they have a website. Same goes for FTP virtual directory in the default ftp configuration to allow the users to upload files to their website. Mysql I have to create a user and password then create a mysql scheme (database) full access for the user and full access to the instructors account to be able to access the students database. All of this is done manually and takes me a week to do. The closest description is maybe a shared hosting environment. Is there a better way to do this? Scripting wise, or better structure setup?

Nevertheless in your application data, Chrome keeps your entire browsing history in SQLite database files, with the file naming scheme of "History Index YYYY-MM". I am looking for a way to search… …through my entire browsing history, …with sophisticated filters (limit search terms to certain fields such as URL, domain, title, body text; wildcard or regex terms, date ranges). … in … …either some ready-made software. eHistory came close, as it can limit terms to fields, but it lacks wildcards/regexes, and has the same limited time horizon as the default search. Beyond that, I could not find any suited Chrome extension or standalone (Mac) app. …or a command line to join multiple SQLite database files into one database, which I can then query (with the full syntax power).   I have a few questions about this configuration file "default" in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled. Why is the location directive embedded in the server directive? Does that mean these locations ONLY apply to this server? None of my configs have listen 80 default_server; how does nginx then pick what configuration to use?

• Grub Autostart with timeout

  On Ubuntu 10.4 LTS I want Grub to start the default OS after 5 Seconds. I'd like to see the output of the startup scripts. Currently grub wait forever until I hit return and the output of the startup scripts isn't visible. Can someone tell me how I have to configure /etc/default/grub or any other setups? I tried to play with GRUB_TIMEOUT and GRUB_DEFAULT and did a sudo update-grub afterwards, but nothing changed.   I'm using an anonymizing VPN, but want SSH access to internal computer. How do I access my internal computer through SSH? When I do ssh 98.123.45.6, the connection times out. • Debian 7 and PHP 5.4.4 error reporting

  I use default php.ini and then in my PHP script (local.settings.php in Drupal) I simply set ini_set('error_reporting', 'E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE & ~E_STRICT'); According to documentation this means "show all messages minus notice and strict warnings". But in my case it still shows strict warnings! I have no idea why, because I clearly stated "~E_STRICT". If I comment it out then I see strict warnings. So it means that default from php.ini "E_ALL & ~E_DEPRECATED & ~E_STRICT" didn't do its job as it also has "~E_STRICT" but I still see strict warnings. On Debian 6 there was Suhoshin patch which was controlling usage of php_ini in PHP scripts. Especially when you try to get more memory than defined cap. Now on debian 7 there is no Suhoshin nor any other security element that might control php_ini. So what might cause php_ini not to be executed? Is there some new variable / setup / other that needs to be checked?

• Is is possible to guide installation of new programs using %ProgramFiles%? [closed]

  The purpose of this is to have the default "program files" (32 and 64 bit) folders located under an arbitrary path, possibly on a drive separate from where windows lives. Initially I thought that this may be done using a system environment variable through the dialog located under Control Panel - System - Advanced - Environment Variables. These variables turned out to be set in the registry under the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion. However, one particular entry is confusing. The ProgramFilesPath entry seems to point at an environment variable that is not defined under the same registry key. I could assume that the difference between ProgramFilesDir and ProgramFilesPath is none and that one of them exists as a backwards compatibility, but having some legitimate resource from Microsoft to look at would be better than guessing. After receiving some worrying feedback about having both 32 and 64bit applications in the same folder, I have decided not to ask about the feasibility of this to avoid discussion. The real question is if the desired effect is possible to attain by "cutting into" the windows setup process and modifying those registry entries as early as possible. These settings should be system wide and not only for software installed by a particular user. If this is indeed something that can be done, I wonder if there are any subtle pitfalls. Programs that expect libraries and other resources to be in default locations can probably be dealt with using the same technique as employed by Windows to re-map the "Documents and Settings" folders and the like (i.e. breaking legacy applications is not real concern).

• Private subnet for VM server host-only network

  At my current job, we distribute a product based on a Linux server with multiple VMs defined (using KVM / libvirt). We are planning to expose limited ports to the customer's network, and use iptables to direct inbound traffic to the appropriate internal VM. My question: is there a class of private subnets that I can use for the internal host-only network that is least likely to conflict with a client IP subnet? Specifically, if I choose a /24 out of any of the RFC-1918 defined private subnets (such as 192.168.x.x), there is a chance of conflicting with a customer-used range. I noticed that several current VM implementations default to 192.168.122.x -- is this due to an RFC that I'm not familiar with, and therefore this is a safe range to use (that most network admins would avoid)? Or did the various VM vendors just pick that range randomly? I guess I'm looking for an IP range that is more private than the existing private (RFC1918) addresses. The only other thought I had was to use one of the "Test Net" IP ranges reserved for documentation purposes (RFC 5737). Note, that I'm not worried about a customer's network blocking these IPs, as this is only internal to our server (packets get NATted before leaving the box). However this does seem more unorthodox than just sticking with the default 192.168.122.x/24 subnet.

• How to store Movies on a separate volume from the iTunes media folder?

  I have a rather enormous Music collection. The music itself is approaching the 1TB mark. I am storing that on an external drive already. My iTunes library files are in their default location (/Users/me/Music/iTunes). My iTunes media folder is on an external drive /Volumes/iTunes/iTunes Music This has been working as expected. Now I would like to store just the contents of the Movies folder in the iTunes media folder on a separate drive. Apparently, iTunes doesn't like aliases or symlinks. I saw somewhere that one could mount a volume in a different directory than the default /Volumes. I would like to permanently mount my new Movies volume in the directory /Volumes/iTunes/iTunes Music/Movies. I know there is a command to do this, but how does one configure Mac OS 10.6.4 to always automatically mount that volume in this directory? I hope someone can enlighten me... If I find a solution, I can finally import all my movies into iTunes and be able to search them and stuff - it would be a dream. Thanks, M

  Hi, I'm trying to build a chart program using presentation model. Using JGoodies for data binding was relatively easy for simple types like strings or numbers. But I can't figure out how to use it on a hashmap. I'll try to explain how the chart works and what my problem is: A chart consists of DataSeries, a DataSeries consists of DataPoints. I want to have a data model and to be able to use different views on the same model (e.g. bar chart, pie chart,...). Each of them consists of three classes. For example: DataPointModel: holds the data model (value, label, category) DataPointViewModel: extends JGoodies PresentationModel. wraps around DataPointModel and holds view properties like font and color. DataPoint: abstract class, extends JComponent. Different Views must subclass and implement their own ui.   Hi all. I'm trying to use c code with opencv in face detection and counting, but I cannot build the source. I am trying to compile my project and I am having a lot of problems with a line in the xutility file. the error message show that it error with xutility file. • Silverlight Recruiting Application Part 6 - Adding an Interview Scheduling Module/View

  Between the last post and this one I went ahead and carried the ideas for the Jobs module and view into the Applicants module and view- they're both doing more or less the same thing, except with different objects being at their core.  Made for an easy cut-and-paste operation with a few items being switched from one to another.  Now that we have the ability to add postings and applicants, wouldn't it be nice if we could schedule an interview?  Of course it would! Scheduling Module I think you get the drift from previous posts that these project structures start looking somewhat similar.  The interview scheduling module is no different than the rest- it gets a SchedulingModule.cs file at the root that inherits from IModule, and there is a single SchedulerView.xsml and SchedulerViewModel.cs setup for our V+VM.  We have one unique concern as we enter into this- RadScheduler deals with AppointmentsSource, not ItemsSource, so there are some special considerations to take into account when planning this module. Where we start getting into the dialog in question is line 132, but line 407 is where things start getting interesting.  The ItemsSource is pointing at a list that exists in my ViewModel (or code-behind, if it is used as a DataContext), the SelectedValue is the item I am actually binding from the applicant (note the TwoWay binding), and SelectedValuePath and DisplayMemberPath ensure the proper applicant is being displayed from the collection.  You will also see similar starting on line 420 where I do the same for the Jobs we'll be displaying. 201.        entityInterview.PostingID = appointmentInterview.PostingID; 202.    } 203.   204.    #endregion 205.} One thing we're doing here which you won't see in any of the other ViewModels is creating a duplicate collection.  I know this is something which will be fixed down the line for using RadScheduler, simplifying this process, but with WCF RIA changing as it does I wanted to ensure functionality would remain consistent as I continued development on this application.  So, I do a little bit of duplication, but for the greater good.  This all takes place starting on line 79, so for every entity that comes back we add it to the collection that is bound to RadScheduler.  Otherwise, the DelegateCommands that you see correspond directly to the events they are named after.  In each case, rather than sending over the full event arguments, I just send in the appointment in question (coming through as the object obj in all cases) so I can add (line 91), edit (line 119), and delete appointments (line 142) like normal.  This just ensures they get updated back to my database.  Also, the one bit of code you won't see is for the Appointment Creating (line 110) event- that is because in the command I've created I simply make the replacement I need to: 1.void element_AppointmentCreating(object sender, AppointmentCreatingEventArgs e) 2.{ 3.    e.NewAppointment = new InterviewAppointment(); 4.    base.ExecuteCommand(); 5.} And the ViewModel is none the wiser, the appointments just work as far as it is concerned since as they are created they become InterviewAppointments.  End result?  I've customized my EditAppointmentDialog as follows: And adding, editing, and deleting appointments works like a charm.  I can even 'edit' by moving appointments around RadScheduler, so as they are dropped into a timeslot they perform their full edit routine and things get updated. 204.    } 205.   206.    #endregion 207.} Nice... right? :) One really important thing to note as well.  See on line 51 where I set the DataContext before the Loaded event?  This is super important, as if you don't have this set before the usercontrol is loaded, the DataContextProxy has no context to use and your EditAppointmentDialog Job/Applicant dropdowns will be blank and empty.  Trust me on this, took a little bit of debugging to figure out that by setting the DataContext post-loaded would only lead to disaster and frustration.  Otherwise, the only other real difference is that instead of sending an ActionHistory item through an event to get added to the database and saved, I do those right in the callback from submitting.  The Result Again, I only have to post one picture because these bad boys used nearly identical code for both the MVVM and the code-behind views, so our end result is... So what have we learned here today?  One, for the most part this MVVM thing is somewhat easy.  Yeah, you sometimes have to write a bunch of extra code, but with the help of a few useful snippits you can turn the process into a pretty streamlined little workflow.  Heck, this story gets even easier as you can see in this blog post by Michael Washington- specifically run a find on 'InvokeCommandAction' and you'll see the section regarding the command on TreeView in Blend 4.  Brilliant!  MVVM never looked so sweet! • Silverlight Recruiting Application Part 6 - Adding an Interview Scheduling Module/View

  Between the last post and this one I went ahead and carried the ideas for the Jobs module and view into the Applicants module and view- they're both doing more or less the same thing, except with different objects being at their core.  Made for an easy cut-and-paste operation with a few items being switched from one to another.  Now that we have the ability to add postings and applicants, wouldn't it be nice if we could schedule an interview?  Of course it would! Scheduling Module I think you get the drift from previous posts that these project structures start looking somewhat similar.  The interview scheduling module is no different than the rest- it gets a SchedulingModule.cs file at the root that inherits from IModule, and there is a single SchedulerView.xsml and SchedulerViewModel.cs setup for our V+VM.  We have one unique concern as we enter into this- RadScheduler deals with AppointmentsSource, not ItemsSource, so there are some special considerations to take into account when planning this module. Customizing the Edit Appointment Dialog This initially sounds a lot more intimidating than it really is.  The first step here depends on what you're dealing with for theming, but for ease of everything I went ahead and extracted my templates in Blend for RadScheduler so I could modify it as I pleased.  For the faint of heart, the RadScheduler template is a few thousand lines of goodness since there are some very complex things going on in that control.  I've gone ahead and trimmed down the template parts I don't need as much as possible, so what is left is all that is relevant to the 201.        entityInterview.PostingID = appointmentInterview.PostingID; 202.    } 203.   204.    #endregion 205.} One thing we're doing here which you won't see in any of the other ViewModels is creating a duplicate collection.  I know this is something which will be fixed down the line for using RadScheduler, simplifying this process, but with WCF RIA changing as it does I wanted to ensure functionality would remain consistent as I continued development on this application.  So, I do a little bit of duplication, but for the greater good.  This all takes place starting on line 79, so for every entity that comes back we add it to the collection that is bound to RadScheduler.  Otherwise, the DelegateCommands that you see correspond directly to the events they are named after.  In each case, rather than sending over the full event arguments, I just send in the appointment in question (coming through as the object obj in all cases) so I can add (line 91), edit (line 119), and delete appointments (line 142) like normal.  This just ensures they get updated back to my database.  Also, the one bit of code you won't see is for the Appointment Creating (line 110) event- that is because in the command I've created I simply make the replacement I need to: 1.void element_AppointmentCreating(object sender, AppointmentCreatingEventArgs e) 2.{ 3.    e.NewAppointment = new InterviewAppointment(); 204.    } 205.   206.    #endregion 207.} Nice... right? :) One really important thing to note as well.  See on line 51 where I set the DataContext before the Loaded event?  This is super important, as if you don't have this set before the usercontrol is loaded, the DataContextProxy has no context to use and your EditAppointmentDialog Job/Applicant dropdowns will be blank and empty.  Trust me on this, took a little bit of debugging to figure out that by setting the DataContext post-loaded would only lead to disaster and frustration.  Otherwise, the only other real difference is that instead of sending an ActionHistory item through an event to get added to the database and saved, I do those right in the callback from submitting.  The Result Again, I only have to post one picture because these bad boys used nearly identical code for both the MVVM and the code-behind views, so our end result is... So what have we learned here today?  One, for the most part this MVVM thing is somewhat easy.  Yeah, you sometimes have to write a bunch of extra code, but with the help of a few useful snippits you can turn the process into a pretty streamlined little workflow.  Heck, this story gets even easier as you can see in this blog post by Michael Washington- specifically run a find on 'InvokeCommandAction' and you'll see the section regarding the command on TreeView in Blend 4.  Brilliant!  MVVM never looked so sweet!
