• Loading a Win32 control in C# (specifically WPF)

  I have written a set of Win32 dlls that encapsulate a Delphi Frame (see Snippet 1 below), and can load them into another Delphi program by loading the dll and assigning the right variables (Snippet 2). I now want to be able to do the same thing in C# (I can load the DLL in pinvoke, but am unsure how to connect up the control to the basic WPF 'form'. • Compiling a C++ application on Windows 7, but execute it on Win2003 Server

  I have a C++ application (quite complex, multiple projects) in Visual Studio 2008, that produces a single dll. Recently I switched to Windows 7, but had previously been compiling under Windows XP. Suddenly the dll in question cannot be loaded by another application, i.e. on a machine running Windows 2003 Server. I've been trying various things: I've installed the VC9.0 redistributable package on the server Also copied various .dll's from that package to the application folder The project is of course compiled in release mode When I run depends.exe on the client machine, I do get the following error: "Error: The Side-by-Side configuration information for "my_dll.dll" contains errors. This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem (14001). Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module." and the icon for shlwapi.dll has a red overlay icon. This didn't happen when I was compiling under WinXP, so I'm guessing that there really is no problem with the .dll's on the client machine, but somewhere there is a reference to that particular version of some dll. Does anyone know what would be the best way to resolve this? Regards, Daníel

• Update table using SSIS

  I am trying to update a field in a table with data from another table, based on a common key. If it were in straight SQL, it would be something like: Update EHSIT set e.IDMSObjID = s.IDMSObjID from EHSIT e, EHSIDMS s where e.SITENUM = s.SITE_CODE However, the two tables are not in the same database, so I'm trying to use SSIS to do the update. Oh, and the sitenum/site_code are varchar in one and nvarchar in the other, so I'll have to do a data conversion so they'll match. How do I do it? I have a data flow object, with the source as EHSIDMS and the destination as EHSIT. I have a data conversion to convert the unicode to non-unicode. But how do I update based on the match? I've tried with the destination, using a SQL Command as the Data Access mode, but it doesn't appear to have the source table. If I just map the field to be updated, how does it limit it based on fields matching? I'm about to export my source table to Excel or something, and then try inputting from there, although it seems that all that would get me would be to remove the data conversion step. Shouldn't there be an update data task or something? Is it one of those Data Flow transformation tasks, and I'm just not figuring out which it is?

• Creating UTF-8 files in Java from a runnable Jar

  I have a little Java project where I've set the properties of the class files to UTF-8 (I use a lot of foreign characters not found on the default CP1252). The goal is to create a text file (in Windows) containing a list of items. When running the class files from Eclipse itself (hitting Ctrl+F11) it creates the file flawlessly and opening it in another editor (I'm using Notepad++) I can see the characters as I wanted. +--------------------------------------------------+ ¦ Universidade2010 (18/18)¦ ¦ hidden: 0¦ +--------------------------------------------------¦ But, when I export the project (using Eclipse) as a runnable Jar and run it using 'javaw -jar project.jar' the new file created is a mess of question marks ???????????????????????????????????????????????????? ? I've followed some tips on how to use UTF-8 (which seems to be broken by default on Java) to try to correct this so now I'm using Writer w = new OutputStreamWriter(fos, "UTF-8"); and writing the BOM header to the file like in this question already answered but still without luck when exporting to Jar Am I missing some property or command-line command so Java knows I want to create UTF-8 files by default ?

• OSGi bundle imports packages from non-bundle jars: create bundles for them?

  I am new to OSGi, and am using Equinox. I have done several searches and can find no answer to this. The discussion at OSGI - handling 3rd party JARs required by a bundle helps somewhat, but does not fully answer my question. I have obtained a jar file, rabbitmq-client.jar, that is already packaged as an OSGi bundle (with Bundle-Name and other such properties in its MANIFEST.MF), that I would like to install as a bundle. This jar imports packages org.apache.commons.io and org.apache.commons.io.input from commons-io-1.2.jar. The RabbitMQ client 2.7.1 distribution also includes commons-cli-1.1.jar, so I presume that it is required as well. I examined the manifests of these commons jars and found that they do not appear to be packaged as bundles. That is, their manifests have none of the standard bundle properties. My specific question is: if I install rabbitmq-client.jar as a bundle, what is the proper way to get access to the packages that it needs to import from the commons jars? There are only three alternatives that I can think of, without rebuilding rabbitmq-client.jar. The packages from the commons jars are already included in the Equinox global classpath, and rabbitmq-client.jar will get them automatically from there. I must make another bundle with the two commons jars, export the needed packages, and install that bundle in Equinox. I must put these two commons jars in the global classpath when I start Equinox, and they will be available to rabbitmq-client.jar from there. I have read that one normally does not use the global classpath in an OSGi container. I am not clear on whether items from the global classpath are even available when building individual bundle classpaths. However, I note that rabbitmq-client.jar also imports other packages such as javax.net, which I presume come from the global classpath. Or is there some other bundle that exports them? • Within a DLL, how is the function table structured?

  I've been looking into the implementation of a device library that doesn't explicitly support my operating system. In particular, I have a disassembled DLL, and a fair amount of supporting source code. Now, how is the function table/export table structured? My understanding is that the first structure of the .data section is a table of VRAs. Next is a table of strings linked by index to that first address table. This makes sense to me, as a linker could translate between symbols and addresses. How do functions referenced by ordinals fit into this picture? How does one know which function has such and such ordinal number, and how does the linker resolve this? In other words, given that some other DLL imports SOME_LIBRARY_ordinal_7, how does the linker know which function to work with? Thanks, all! edit More information... Im working with the FTDI libraries, and would like to resolve which function is being invoked. In particular, I see something like: extern FTD2XX_Ordinal_28: near how might I go about determining which function is being referenced, and how does the linker do this?

• Handling large datasets with PHP/Drupal

  Hi all, I have a report page that deals with ~700k records from a database table. I can display this on a webpage using paging to break up the results. However, my export to PDF/CSV functions rely on processing the entire data set at once and I'm hitting my 256MB memory limit at around 250k rows. I don't feel comfortable increasing the memory limit and I haven't got the ability to use MySQL's save into outfile to just serve a pre-generated CSV. However, I can't really see a way of serving up large data sets with Drupal using something like: $form = array(); $table_headers = array(); $table_rows = array(); $data = db_query("a query to get the whole dataset"); while ($row = db_fetch_object($data)) { $table_rows[] = $row->some attribute; } $form['report'] = array('#value' => theme('table', $table_headers, $table_rows); return $form; Is there a way of getting around what is essentially appending to a giant array of arrays? At the moment I don't see how I can offer any meaningful report pages with Drupal due to this. Thanks

I wrote the following module, but it is fragile and feels wrong in many ways. Also it fails on reading after a while. • Sheet and thread memory problem

  Hi Guys, recently I started a project which can export some precalculated Grafix/Audio to files, for after processing. All I was doing is to put a new Window (with progressindicator and an Abort Button) in my main xib and opened it using the following code: [NSApp beginSheet: REC_Sheet modalForWindow: MOTHER_WINDOW modalDelegate: self didEndSelector: nil contextInfo: nil]; NSModalSession session=[NSApp beginModalSessionForWindow:REC_Sheet]; RECISNOTDONE=YES; while (RECISNOTDONE) { if ([NSApp runModalSession:session]!=NSRunContinuesResponse) break; usleep(100); } [NSApp endModalSession:session]; A Background Thread (pthread) was started earlier, to actually perform the work and save all the targas/wave file. Which worked great, but after an amount of time, it turned out that the main thread was not responding anymore and my memory footprint raised unstoppable. I tried to debug it with Instruments, and saw a lot of CFHash etc stuff growing to infinity. By accident i clicked below the sheet, and temporary it helped, the main thread (AppKit ?) was releasing it's stuff, but just for a little time. I can't explain it to me, first of all I thought it was the access from my thread to the Progressbar to update the Progress (intervalled at 0,5sec), so I cut it out. But even if I'm not updating anything and did nothing with the Progressbar, my Application eat up all the Memory, because of not releasing it's "Main-Event" or whatsoever Stuff. Is there any possibility to "drain" this Main thread Memory stuff (Runloop / NSApp call?). And why the heck doesn't the Main thread respond anymore (after this simple task) ??? I don't have a clou anymore, please help ! Thanks in advance ! P.S. How do you guys implement "threaded long task" Stuff and updating your gui ???

• gems, bundle command, and ruby not found in new terminal window

  So I installed ruby with rvm, ran a bundle install and installed a bunch of gems, etc. It all works just fine in the original terminal window I did all of this in but I opened up a new terminal window and now I'm getting errors like bundle: command not found and gem command not found. I tried doing a symbolic link for the gem command but then when I do gem list it displays a much shorter list of my local gems and not at all the ones I need for bundle install. The original problem still stands though.

• What are your best practices for ensuring the correctness of the reports from SQL?

  Part of my work involves creating reports and data from SQL Server to be used as information for decision. The majority of the data is aggregated, like inventory, sales and costs totals from departments, and other dimensions. When I am creating the reports, and more specifically, I am developing the SELECTs to extract the aggregated data from the OLTP database, I worry about mistaking a JOIN or a GROUP BY, for example, returning incorrect results. I try to use some "best practices" to prevent me for "generating" wrong numbers: When creating an aggregated data set, always explode this data set without the aggregation and look for any obvious error. Export the exploded data set to Excel and compare the SUM(), AVG(), etc, from SQL Server and Excel. Involve the people who would use the information and ask for some validation (ask people to help to identify mistakes on the numbers). Never deploy those things in the afternoon - when possible, try to take a look at the T-SQL on the next morning with a refreshed mind. I had many bugs corrected using this simple procedure. Even with those procedures, I always worry about the numbers. What are your best practices for ensuring the correctness of the reports?

  In a *.cpp file, trying to use a third party lib: #define DLL_IMPORT #include <thirdParty.h> // Third party header has code like: // #ifdef DLL_IMPORT // #define DLL_DECL __declspec(dllimport) // fatal error C1001: An internal error has occurred in the compiler. Alternative: #define NO_DLL #include <thirdParty.h> // Third party header has code like: // #elif defined(NO_DLL) // #define DLL_DECL // Compiles fine, but linker errors as can't find DLL functions // I can reproduce results by remove macros and #define all together and manually editing the third party files to have __declspec(dllimport) or not Has anyone come across anything similar, or can hint at the cause? (which is created using CMake). Above is actual example of 2 line *.cpp that crashes so it's narrowed down to something in the #include. The following also work fine: Compile the examples provided by the third party (they provide a *.sln) that use dllimport/export so it doesn't appear to be the fault of the library Compile the third party lib as part of the production project (so dllexport works fine) I've trawled the project settings pages of the two projects to try and spot differences, but have come up blank. Of course, it's possible I'm missing something as those settings pages are not the easiest to navigate. I'll get access to VS2008 in a day or so, so can compare with that. The third party library is MySql++.

• Starting a personal reuasable code repository.

  Hi, I've been meaning to start a library of reusable code snippets for a while and never seem to get round to it. At the moment I just tend to have some transient classes/files that I drag out of old projects. I think my main problems are: Where to start. What structure should my repository take? Should it be a compiled library (where appropriate) or just classes/files I can drop into any project? Or a library project that can be included? What are the licencing implications of that? In my experience, a built/minified library will quickly become out of date and the source will get lost. So I'm leaning towards source that I can export from SVN and include in any project. Intellectual property. I am employeed, so a lot of the code I write is not my IP. How can I ensure that I don't give my own IP away using it on projects in work and at home? I'm thinking the best way would be to licence my library with an open source licence and make sure I only add to it in my own time using my own equipment and therefore making sure that if I use it in a work project the same rules apply as if I was using a third party library. I write in many different languages and often would require two or more parts of this library. Should I look at implementing a few template projects and a core project for each of my chosen reusable components and languages? Has anyone else got this sort of library and how do you organise and update it?

• Why my jquery function is not firing on Firefox

  I have some trouble with some jquery method (for some checkboxes I want them to fire on checked/unchecked so I can do something then). • Dynamic Data Extract Tools

  I've been searching around for a few weeks now for a tool that either is fully built or a direction of something I could build for dynamically extracting data via a web interface. Basically, what I'm looking for is a way to give users a list of all available data objects from our database and then let them pick ones from the list they'd like to view and set parameters then export the results to an excel file. Right now we're doing it purely with SQL statements but we have hundreds of objects so as you might imagine, those statements are really complex and prone to errors. It would be great if there was a tool available to do this or if someone had an idea of an easy way to organize this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We've looked at BI tools like QlikView and Tableau but that is probably overkill for what we're trying to do. The open-source BI tools we've looked at seemed really primitive in their functionality. The other thing we looked at was MSAS (our DB is SQL Server) but I'd prefer something that was more database-agnostic and lived on a web server instead of on the database.

• Find Lines with N occurrences of a char

  I have a txt file that I’m trying to import as flat file into SQL2008 that looks like this: “123456”,”some text” “543210”,”some more text” “111223”,”other text” etc… The file has more than 300.000 rows and the text is large (usually 200-500 chars), so scanning the file by hand is very time consuming and prone to error. Other similar (and even more complex files) were successfully imported. The problem with this one, is that “some lines” contain quotes in the text… (this came from an export from an old SuperBase DB that didn’t let you specify a text quantifier, there’s nothing I can do with the file other than clear it and try to import it). So the “offending” lines look like this: “123456”,”this text “contains” a quote” “543210”,”And the “above” text is bad” etc… You can see the problem here. Now, 300.000 is not too much if I could perform a search using a text editor that can use regex, I’d manually remove the quotes from each line. The problem is not the number of offending lines, but the impossibility to find them with a simple search. I’m sure there are less than 500, but spread those in a 300.000 lines txt file and you know what I mean. Based upon that, what would be the best regex I could use to identify these lines? My first thought is: Tell me which lines contain more than 4 quotes (“). But I couldn’t come up with anything (I’m not good at Regex beyond the basics).

Here is what I am using to export a SQL table having only one column of varchar(513) to a flat file. But I need to get all the 513 characters including spaces at the end. How do I change this code to incorporate that. There are a variety of tools available to help you and Support diagnose SOA Suite issues in 11g but it can be confusing as to which tool is appropriate for a particular situation and what their relationships are. This blog post will introduce the various tools and attempt to clarify what each is for and how they are related. Let's first list the tools we'll be addressing: RDA: Remote Diagnostic Agent DFW: Diagnostic Framework Selective Tracing DMS: Dynamic Monitoring Service ODL: Oracle Diagnostic Logging ADR: Automatic Diagnostics Repository ADRCI: Automatic Diagnostics Repository Command Interpreter WLDF: WebLogic Diagnostic Framework This overview is not mean to be a comprehensive guide on using all of these tools, however, extensive reference materials are included that will provide many more details on their execution. Another point to note is that all of these tools are applicable for Fusion Middleware as a whole but specific products may or may not have implemented features to leverage them. A couple of the tools have a WebLogic Scripting Tool or 'WLST' interface. WLST is a command interface for executing pre-built functions and custom scripts against a domain. • order of operations for environment variables

  I want to understand how environment variables are set and reset (overridden). I'm running Apache/2.2.24 (Unix) PHP/5.4.14 on a mac . My theory is this: Environment vars can be set in bash, then they can be overwritten with httpd.conf preceding a VirtualHost directive that precedes php.ini, which can then be overwritten by .htaccess (if allowable) and finally by PHP I tried the following: setting environment variable in bash: I added export ENVIRONMENT='local' to my ~/.bashrc file, restarted apache and did not get any output from print_r($_ENV); (in a simple index.php file at the root of my webserver). I also tried putting ENVIRONMENT='local' into /etc/environment, and restarting apache, nothing, as well as /etc/bashrc, restart apache. still nothing. setting environment variable in httpd.conf: I added SetEnv ENVIRONMENT 'local-httpd to the end of my /etc/apache2/httpd.conf file (but before I load other conf files, such as virtual host [Include /private/etc/apache2/other/*.conf]). I now see the variable in the array print_r($_SERVER); but not print_r($_ENV);. setting environment variable in httpd-vhosts.conf: I added SetEnv ENVIRONMENT 'local-vhost to my /etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf file in my generic directive that points to my default document root. I now see the variable has been overwritten (to local-vhost from local-httpd, so I know where the variable is getting set). setting environment variable in php.ini: while searching for a proper place to put my environment variable, I noticed that variables_order = "GPCS" was set to the production value rather than EGPCS. I changed it, restarted my server and found that I was now getting output for print_r($_ENV); but not my expected custom variable. It also appears that I am not able to set a custom variable in this file. Please tell me if I am wrong setting environment variable in .htaccess: I added SetEnv ENVIRONMENT 'local-htaccess'. This worked as expected, overwriting all other values that were set. setting / overwriting environment variable in PHP: if (...) { putenv('ENVIRONMENT=local'); } I'm asking this question because I have a lot of local and remote testing servers, some of which may or may not allow me access to modify httpd, httpd-vhost, php.ini or environment variables. I want to understand what is best for those difference scenarios (shared hosting, heroku, local servers, etc) I obviously don't know how to properly set the environment variable in bash in a way that php can use it, I'd like to know how to do that (as I think Heroku does something similar with heroku config set...)

• DB2 Integrity Checks and Exception Tables

  I am working on planning a migration of a DB2 8.1 database from a horrible IBM encoding to UTF-8 to support further languages etc. I am encountering an issue that I am stuck on. A few notes on this migration: We are using db2move to export and load the data and db2look to get the details fo the database (tablespaces, tables, keys etc). We found the loading process worked nicely with db2move import, however, the data takes 7 hours to load and this was unacceptable downtime when we actually complete the conversion on the main database. We are now using db2move load, which is much faster as it seems to simply throw the data in without integrity checks. Which leads to my current issue. After completing the db2move load process, several tables are in a check pending state and require integrity checks. Integrity checks are done via the following: set integrity for . immediate checked This works for most tables, however, some tables give an error: DB21034E The command was processed as an SQL statement because it was not a valid Command Line Processor command. During SQL processing it returned: SQL3603N Check data processing through the SET INTEGRITY statement has found integrity violation involving a constraint with name "blah.SQL120124110232400". SQLSTATE=23514 The internets tell me that the solution to this issue is to create an exception table based on the actual table and tell the SET INTEGRITY command to send any exceptions to that table (as below): db2 create table blah_EXCEPTION like blah db2 SET INTEGRITY FOR blah IMMEDIATE CHECKED FOR EXCEPTION IN blah USE blah_EXCEPTION NOW, here is the specific issue I am having! The above forces all the rows with issues to the specified exception table. Well that's just super, buuuuuut I can not lose data in this conversion, its simply unacceptable. The internets and IBM has a vague description of sending the violations to the exception tables and then "dealing with the data" that is in the exception table. Unfortunately, I am not clear what this means and I was hoping that some wise individual knows and could help me out and let me know how I can retrieve this data from these tables and place the data in the original/proper table rather than these exception tables.   Hello In my current company, i am doing a PoC on how we can write a file downloader utility. We have to use socket programming(TCP/IP) for downloading the files. One of the requirements of the client is that a file(which will be large in size) should be transfered in chunks for example if we have a file of 5Mb size then we can have 5 threads which transfer 1 Mb each. I have written a small application which downloads a file. ByteArrayWrapper objects are added to the list Then i have while loop which basically make sure that all threads have done their work finally it sorts the list based on the sequence number. then the bytes are joined, and a complete byte array is formed which is converted to a file. In this code i am not able to see the benefit. 2) How should i decide how many threads should i create ? 3) Are their any opensource libraries which does that 4) The file which file receiver receives is valid and not corrupted but checksum (i used FileUtils of common-io) does not match. Whats the problem? 5) This code gives out of memory when used with large file(above 100 Mb) i.e. because byte array which is created. How can i avoid? I know this is a very bad code but i have to write this in one day -:). Please suggest any other good way to do this? Thanks Shekhar
