FLA files get corrupted when opening from or saving to networked drives or folder. Flash does not reflect changes in custom class after compiling. Flash, Flash Video Encoder, or Adobe Media Encodercrashes or corrupts Flash Video (FLV) files while encoding source located on networked drives or folder. Flash Video Encoder or Adobe Media Encoder crashes or corrupts FLV files where the output folder is a networked drive or folder. Published Flash Player (SWF) files and projectors are unable to load content located on networked drives or folder. More than one instance of a SWF or Projector on client machines cannot play back FLV files located on a networked drive or folder. Reason The Adobe Flash IDE, FLV Encoder, Adobe Media Encoderand Flash Player were not designed to function across LANs. Solution Use of Flash files across local networks is not supported in any context. Published content should access data through a web server. All file sources should be opened and saved on the local system. Using Flash in such a scenario for project collaboration or content deployment is highly discouraged and may corrupt your source files. If you need to work in a collaborative environment or store source files on a server, use the project panel and/or a third-party version control system. SERIOUSLY? I cannot work on files located on a mapped network drive? How did they mess that one up? Does the Flash IDE really open the source file and wipe it clean to do the saving, rather than saving a copy first then replacing it as an atomic file system operation? How hard would it be for them make a dummy temporary file for saving then issue a MOVE command? Any workarounds for this, like something that can make a network drive as stable as a local drive, like some kind of automatic local caching and synching?

• backup of KVM VM's running on Ubuntu 12.4.1 precise edition from a remote machine

  I am creating a library API which will take the backup of all the VM's running on KVM hypervisor. My VM's can be of any type. I am taking this backup from a remote machine and need to put the backup at remote server. I have KVM, Libvirt installed on my system. Some of my VM's are LVM based and some are normal VM's running on KVM. I research and found out an excellent perl script for taking the backup http://pof.eslack.org/2010/12/23/best-solution-to-fully-backup-kvm-virtual-machines/ but since I am developing this library in C++ I cannot use it however it has given me a good understanding of how it will work. One thing I didnot able to sort out is if my VM's are not created using virt-manager or are created using any other tool them virsh system list command does not give them in the list of running VM's however they are running perfectly on my KVM server. Is there a way to list these VM's in my system list anyhow? secondly, when I am taking backup from the remote machine I am getting out of my ssh mode as soon as my libvirt command finishes and for every command I need to ssh again, Is there a way that I do not need to ssh each and every time? I have already used the rsa key for ssh but when once my command finishes my control moves to the remote machine again and try to find out my source VM location in remote machine's local drives which in turn fails it. here is the main problem I am facing. also for the LVM based VM I am able to take the live backup but for non LVM based my machines are getting suspended and not been able to take the live backup. Since my library will work on the remote machine only I might not know the VM's configruation on the KVM server. so need to make it consistent for all the VM's. Please share any thing related to this issue so that I may be able to take the live backup of the non lvm vm's also. I'll update my working and any research findings time to time to all of you. • Snap Server 18000 connection help!

  I wonder if anyone here can help me. I have a home server setup made up of old secondhand computers, 2 servers running Windows Server 2003, 1 workstation running Windows 7, a 16 port switch & an adsl ethernet modem. All these connect and talk to each other fine but then I got a "Snap Server 18000" and a "Snap disk 30sa" sata array. When I turn the Snap on, it boots past the BIOS, runs a kernel, then displays: This device cannot be managed via the video/kbd/mouse interface. The video is now disabled. You may access the management functions from your web browser. Only, none of the other PCs detect it, so no browser can find it! I have checked all cables, and all LEDs indicate there's a connection. I have installed the windows "iscsi" and the adaptec "Snap Server Manager" on all PCs but still it's not detected. I don't know what else to do, please advise!

Now, I am interested in building a development area of the exactly same environment in my office, therefore, I am about to setup MySQL replication between my live MySQL server and development MySQL server. But my concern is the load which will occur on my live MySQL server once replication is started. Do you have any experience? Will this process cause extra load on my production server? The exceptions are being thrown when trying to access directories that are virtual dirs in IIS, and plain old UNC network shares What the implications for enabling the WebDAV extensions on our live web server? And will this solve our problems with the exceptions in our event log?

• Windows Media Player Object with Video_TS Files - No Sound Anymore

  I copied a bunch of my DVDs (yes, owned) to a drive and created a basic webpage to be able to search and play them. I am using the code at the bottom to create a Windows Media Player object and then play the video. The video files are pulled off the DVD in the original format so each movie has files like this: VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_0.IFO VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_2.VOB VTS_01_3.VOB VTS_01_4.VOB VTS_01_5.VOB VTS_01_6.VOB This all worked great until just recently. On my dev machine, I can play the videos but now, all of a sudden, there is no sound. I have tried the following but no luck: The video is not muted and the sound is at 50% Under the sound icon, under mixer, I checked IE and it is fine Sound works fine using another program, says WinAmp Opening Windows Media Player directly from the Start Menu and then playing the same movie works fine and I get sound I ensured that the option in IE to play sound on websites is checked I can play sound on other people's websites where they have embedded WMP files I tried resetting all of the IE settings on the Advanced tab in IE I tried my website, with my code below on another computer, AND IT WORKS FINE! I tried copying the media files listed above from the computer that works fine to my dev computer and it still doesn't work. If I try using a ".wmv" file, the sound does work By the way, I am using Win7 with IE8. As you can see, this is driving me crazy! Why would it stop working on my one computer and the same code and files work fine on another computer? • How to set up dual quadro cards on RHEL 5.5?

  I have a RHEL 5 workstation with 2 nvidia Quadro FX4500 cards, with one display attached to each card. After doing a clean install of RHEL 5.5, the second display doesnt work (it worked ok in RHEL 5.2). Neither separate X screens nor Xinerama are working. The kernel version is 2.6.18-194.el5 I've tried nvidia drivers 185.18.36 (the ones that i was using on 5.2) and the latest 260.19.36 and neither works. • Custom initrd init script: how to create /dev/initctl

  I have a virtual machine (VMM is Xen 3.3) equipped with two IDE HDD's (/dev/hda and /dev/hdb). The root file system is in /dev/hda1, where Scientific Linux 5.4 is installed. /dev/hdb contains an empty ext2 file system. I want to protect the root file system from writes by the VM by using aufs (AnotherUnionFS) to layer a writable file system on top of the root file system. The changes to / will be written to the file system located on /dev/hdb. (Furthermore, outside the VM, the file backing the /dev/hda will also be set to read-only permissions, so the VMM should also prevent the VM from modifying at that level.) (The purpose of this setup: be able to corrupt a virtual machine using software-implemented fault injection but preserve the file system image in order to quickly reboot the VM to a fault-free state.) How do I get an initrd init script to do the necessary mounts to create the union file system? I've tried 2 approaches: I've tried modifying the nash script that mkinitrd creates, but I don't know what setuproot and switchroot do and how to make them use my aufs as the new root. Apparently, nobody else here knows either. (EDIT: I take that back.) I've tried building a LiveCD (using linux-live-6.3.0) and then modifying the Bash /linuxrc script from the generated initrd, and I got the mounts correct, but the final /sbin/init complains about /dev/initctl. Specifically, my /linuxrc mounts the aufs at /union. The last few lines of /linuxrc effectively do the following: cd /union mkdir -p mnt/live pivot_root . mnt/live exec sbin/chroot . sbin/init </dev/console >/dev/console 2>&1 When init starts, it outputs something like init: /dev/initctl: No such file or directory. What is supposed to create this FIFO? I found no such filename in the original linuxrc and liblinuxlive scripts. I tried creating it via "mkfifo /dev/initctl", but then init complained about a timeout opening or writing to the FIFO. Would appreciate any help or pointers. Thanks.

  I was surprised to hear from this Reuters video that it was possible for a page loaded on one tab to access and/or inject data onto another page loaded on a different tab. TL;DW (too lazy; didn't watch) The interviewee in the video suggests that when doing online banking, the user exit his browser (thus closing all windows) and start a new browser session with just your banking page/tab open. Allegedly, malicious sites can check if you have your banking site open and inject commands onto those sites. Can someone confirm and/or deny this claim? Is it only possible even if there is not parent/child relationship between windows/tabs?

• Instant database snapshot

  My product uses oracle 9 database in its backend. every week the new release of the product is launched which will want to fire some DML, DDL queries to the database. I usually test the product release in a dummy database before applying it in the main database. I create a database dump using exp command, then import them into dummy database using imp. then i test the product in the dummy database and checks if there are any errors. This exp and imp takes about 3 hours to complete. Is there any alternative as : instant snapshot of the live database (which will be independent of the live one)? or is there any option to keep dummydatabase in sync with the originl database always. Yhis can be done by making the product firing DML&DDL queries to both the databases.. but this will be a HUGE performance problem.. how can i overcome this?

• Ubuntu not showing disk

  I have a laptop which had broken windows 7 installed on it. I created a ubuntu live usb and tried installing ubuntu over that win7. After a few minutes, I got an error message, so I needed to restart the computer. Now the laptop says that there is no bootable device - reasonable message given that there was an error during linux installation. But: Bios can see my hard drive, When I start ubuntu in live mode, and try either sudo fdisk -l or gparted, it doesn't show any hard disk drives. I am 90% sure that hdd is broken, but it is wierd that bios can see it, and ubuntu doesn't. How can I be 100% sure about that hdd? Is there any additional way of detecting my hdd from ubuntu?

  I've got a PC with dual BenQ G2222HDL monitors and an ATI Radeon HD 4650 video card. I've been running both monitors at 1920x1080 for some months now but last week the second monitor switched to a lower resolution and won't let me go back to 1920x1080. If I right click the Desktop and choose Screen Resolution from the menu, I get two items in the Display: drop down list BenQ G2222HDL D-SUB Display device on: VGA In the past 2 was always the same as 1. If I click Detect a third item appears Available display output on: ATI Radeon HD 4650 but if I use the Multiple displays: drop down list to use it says "No display detected" and then lets me choose from either "Connect anyway on S-Video" or "Connect anyway on Component", neither of which help. It seems like Windows 7 recognises the card is dual-head, and knows I have got two monitors, but can't link it all together. I have checked and all my drivers are up-to-date. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get the second monitor working properly again?

  I need ffmpeg to open webcam (logitech c910) in MJPEG mode, because the webcam can give ~24 using MJPEG "protocol" and only ~10 fps using the YUYV.   I'm attempting to draw text onto a video using either the avconv or ffmpeg commands. When specifying x= for where on the final video to place the text, the 'text_w' value is evaluating to 0, rather than the width of the rendered text as it should. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 I've got avconv version 0.8.3-4:0.8.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 and ffmpeg version 0.8.3-4:0.8.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 Example command: avconv -i test.mov -vf "drawtext=fontfile='/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSans.ttf':text='test text':x=text_w:y=50:fontsize=24:fontcolor=black" texted.mov This command causes the text to be printed as if x were set to 0. • What is the best software to capture full-screen 3h programming session in Windows?

  Hi, I'm planning a laboratorial experiment to assess behavior of groups when programming using some tools under study. For that, I'll need to capture their entire screen to disk. Mostly, what will be displayed is code, so I'm not to worried with image quality. However, it's paramount that the team is not able to stop the recording by accident, and the tool should be rebust enough to hold at least 3h of video. If possible, it would be nice for researchers in other rooms to "watch" the video as it is recording. Actually, this last requirement reminded me that I could use a VNC recording software, and install a VNC client in each laboratory computer. Anyway, what is your experience with this? Which software do you recommend? Thanks.

• Good Linux Distro for Disconnected Netbook

  I'm deployed to Afghanistan with the Army and I have a friend who's netbook had his hard drive take a dump on him. He ordered a new hard drive and I was able to download and burn a copy of Ubuntu to disk from work. However the default install doesn't support most of the media that he wants to watch (AVI files, probably some DIVX video) without installing extra packages. We don't have internet in the tent and really don't have a vaiable option for downloading additional packages through the package manager anywhere here. The computer is a small HP netbook. All my friend wants is to watch ripped movies. Does anyone know of a good way to do either of the following: Download packages seperately and install them via CD A distro that is going to come preloaded with all of the packages and needed to watch just about any type of video file you can think of? • Why does QuickTime lag in Firefox if I don't put my mouse over it?

  This has happened for me as long as I can remember. Since the first version of Firefox, on multiple computers and under different versions of Windows. QuickTime plays fine in IE and Chrome (even with Firefox in the background), but in Firefox if my mouse is not over the QuickTime window then it will start to studder, then lag and eventually just stop. To be honest, I do keep quite a few tabs open, but Firefox stays at 1% CPU (even when QuickTime runs) and I have a few gigs of free RAM. It is the same for any resolution of video or audio. If the mouse is just one pixel in the client area of the QuickTime then it usually plays fine. Other video formats typically play fine. Does anyone else notice this behavior? Ultimately I would like a fix besides keeping my mouse over the QuickTime window.

  Hi, I'm trying to setup a reverse proxy in lighttpd, such that all requests (and only those requests) under /mobile/video is redirected to the / directory of a secondary web server. However, if I do a global rewrite then everything gets forwarded to the secondary server, which is also not what I want. How do I go about this task?

• Dell D620 Windows 7 Blank screen

  When I installed Windows 7 on my Dell D620 it was all fine until a couple of days later most times when I either shut down or suspend (by closing the lid). When I unsuspend or startup the computer, there is often a completely blank screen (can't see post screen or anything), and restarting doesn't help. I've found that I can eventually bring it back up again by suspending and unsuspending a few times, but obviously this is not ideal. Has anyone else experienced this? I think it is a driver issue, that somehow the driver is putting the video card into a certain mode that it forgets how to get it back out of. Any ideas on a better solution than my switching off and on business? Edit: Turns out that the video card had burned out! IT managed to get me a new mainboard sorted for me.

  Since I bought my iMac last year, I have a white pixel on the left of my screen. I'm ok with that, one pixel is not much and I know about dead pixels policies. My problem is about understanding this "dead" pixel. But this pixel has a strange behavior. At first, it seems to be always white, but it is actually working ok under certain conditions: the mouse pointer a contextual menu Dock icons a QuickLooks video played in fullscreen other spaces than "1" The "QuickLooks fullscreen video" and "other spaces" are the one that disturb me the most. In these modes, my pixel is working fine, so it must be a software problem since my pixel is working correctly in those modes. Any ideas?

• Idle hard disk makes noise.

  Like a fan or something. I checked it. I stopped all fans (cpu, video, psu) and the noise was still there. I read online that it might be a motor or something. I have put a great deal of effort making my pc quiet. Installed a quiet psu and cpu fan, reduced the fan speed of my video card, bought a ssd... But my drive for data makes this noise. I would never have expected that. Do all hard disks make this kind of noise? I guess most people won't notice it because of the other fans they have in the system, I however can hear it quite clearly because all my other fans are almost silent. So should i get a new one or should i just live with it, considering that i might end up with a drive that also makes this noise.

As far as I can see and according to System - Administration - Hardware drivers the install was successful and the card + driver is up and running. However, I don't see any wireless network (my windows PC can see about 5 wireless networks). I tried it with the network manager applet as well as with wicd. If I try to connect to "Hidden Wireless Network" via nm-applet, it will start to connect for a while but is unable too (although I supply it with the correct WEP settings & key) So, I'm unable to use my wireless network. What am i doing wrong? • The KMPlayer ... playing with colors

  I'm not a video editing type, so go easy on me ... practically don't know anything on the subject except that for some videos I view, "color modifying" works (buttons n, j, r for reset ...) and for some it doesn't. What influences that and how can I incluence contrast, saturation and so on on every video I play? (mostly some recordings of experiments in poor light conditions, so those controls really come in handy when viewing some details before taking out snapshots for reports) Also, KMPlayer has an enormous number of options. Is there one somewhere that can take a snapshot in a predefined directory of the what-I-see-on-screen every xy number of seconds?
