• Aspnet_merge error has no detail

  I have been attempting to add a Deployment Project to my web app. When I build it, I get a message "An error occurred when merging assemblies: Exception from HRESULT: 0x806D0004". There is no other detail, like ILMerge error, or Duplicate Name. I have "verbosity" set to "Diagnostic", and this is the output: Command: C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\WebDeployment\v8.0\aspnet_merge.exe "\...XXX...\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\XXX_deploy\Debug" -o XXX_deploy -debug -copyattrs The "AspNetMerge" task is using "aspnet_merge.exe" from "C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\WebDeployment\v8.0\aspnet_merge.exe". I have tried running the command via the Command prompt, but it does not give any additional information. I have also removed EVERYTHING from the project, including references, style sheets, forms, tableadapters. I still have a web.config, but deleted all app-specific lines. I added a single new form named Default. I have even tried renaming that form to DefaultX, just in case there was another Default out there. I still get the error. What else can I look for? • Does the WMI event Win32_VolumeChangeEvent work on Windows XP

  I'm trying to use the following c# code to detect the attached/removed event of usb mass storage devices. I'm using the Win32_VolumeChangeEvent. // Initialize an event watcher and subscribe to events that match this query var _watcher = new ManagementEventWatcher("select * from Win32_VolumeChangeEvent"); _watcher.EventArrived += OnDeviceChanged; _watcher.Start(); void OnDeviceChanged(object sender, EventArrivedEventArgs args) { Console.WriteLine(args.NewEvent.GetText(TextFormat.Mof)); } The problem is that this works fine on Vista but it doesn't work on XP at all (no events received). The Microsoft documentation says that this should work (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa394516(VS.85).aspx). I googled for this quite a while and found other that have this problem too. But I also found a couple of articles which claim that this kind of query (mostly in vbscript) works with XP. But I cannot find some offical information from microsoft for this issue and I can't believe that Microsoft have overlooked this issue for three service packs. So my question is: has anybody used the Win32_VolumeChangeEvent with success on XP or can provide a link/explanation why it shouldn't work on XP?

I'm able to merge the documents, but some of my formatting is missing (namely the fonts and images). • iCal file that will update the attendee list?

  So I want to add an iCal file to a web page, so that people can add an event to their calendars. But when I view the event in my calendar (Outlook 2007) I want to see everyone who will be attending. How can I do that? I just started experimenting with this, I used Outlook's Save As to create an iCal file for a single event. That works, I can link to that file and other people can add the event to their calendars. But it doesn't tell me who has added it. • wpf - window to be tight round user control

  Hi, I've got a user control that I'm loading into a Window dynamically - I wanted to set the Window so that it didn't have a size and then I thought the window to resize accordingly depending on the UserControl. However it dosn't - can anyone assist please? I've made a very basic example - I've cut out the dynamic bits and just put a UserControl in a Window. What do I need to do to get the window to be tight around the UserControl?   I'm running this code on a UML Class Diagram, and it works just fine, but when trying to apply stereotypes from PropertiesEditor in Visual Studio for relationship ends (FirstRole and SecondRole), the stereotypes combo doesn't load even if in code there seems to be applicable stereotypes valid for association properties. • Change ObjectChoiceField Color not working on Blackberry OS 5.0

  I want to create a custom ObjectChoiceField, the expected behavior is if the data change then upon leavinge the focus the font color will change. I have succeded in BB OS upto 4.7 but when tested on simulator and on real device with BB OS 5.0 the color won't change.   Given a resource dictionary loading some static resources into memory - is there any way to iterate through theResources loaded into memory? My silverlight application keeps telling me it cannot find a static resource.   Hi I have a nant build file set up which works fine from the cmd line but not in TeamCity. I'd like to retrieve/store this data in a SQL Server database using SQL Alchemy, but am having some trouble loading the pyodbc module. • How to draw an overlay on a SurfaceView used by Camera on Android?

  I have a simple program that draws the preview of the Camera into a SurfaceView. What I'm trying to do is using the onPreviewFrame method, which is invoked each time a new frame is drawn into the SurfaceView, in order to execute the invalidate method which is supposed to invoke the onDraw method. In fact, the onDraw method is being invoked, but nothing there is being printed (I guess the camera preview is overwriting the text I'm trying to draw).   I am attempting to write a multilingual application in Silverlight 4.0 and I at the point where I can start replacing my static text with dynamic text from a SampleData xaml file.   In my application I needs to stop a application pool programmitically in IIS 7. I have created a local acccount and given him Administrative Priviledges. • MS Ajax FilteredTextBox stopped working

  Hi, I'm using Microsoft's AJAX library via their CDN. Everything was going fine in an old project. I then created a new project and copied and pasted some of the AJAX code hoping that it would work. However, my code isn't working and I've been struggling to figure out why. In Chrome, I used the Dev Tools and it found two errors on the page. In my .aspx page, I have: Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'Numbers' of undefined (regarding the Sys.Extended.UI.FilterTypes.Numbers in the code above). In filteredtextboxbehavior.debug.js, I have the error: Uncaught TypeError: Object #<an Object> has no method 'registerComponent' Any ideas why I'm getting this error? The code has been working previously so I'm not sure if I had added any extra settings in my old project which the new one doesn't have.   How can I tell (through the debugger if my app resources are being loaded correctly). • Is ASP.NET MVC destined to replace Webforms?

If not please close this. I know that no one framework or language is necessarily the only tool for every job. But, do you see MVC eclipsing webforms or webforms going lower on the priority list for Microsoft? They will have to keep webforms for a long time because so many have invested in it, but they don't have to keep adding new functionality for it. I don't know if this is a good example, but it reminds me of web parts. I never saw much improvement in it from Microsoft. It works and I thought it was great until I started to really try and get a lot out of it. Then from what I could see it just wasn't being pursued by Microsoft that much, though it stayed in Visual Studio. Maybe that's a bad example; just what I remembered. EDIT: Also, if anyone has any statements from Microsoft on this subject it is appreciated. No offense to anyone. I was only hoping for something official.

• Track "commands" send to WPF window by touchpad (Bamboo)

  Hi, I just bought a touchpad wich allows drawing and using multitouch. The api is not supported fully by windows 7, so I have to rely on the build in config dialog. The basic features are working, so if I draw something in my WPF tool, and use both fingers to do a right click, I can e.g. change the color. What I want to do now is assign other functions to special features in WPF. Does anybody know how to find out in what way the pad communicates with the app? It works e.g. in Firefox to scroll, like it should (shown on this photo). But I do not know how to hookup the scroll event, I tried a Scrollviewer (which ignores my scroll attempts) and I also hooked up an event with the keypressed, but it does not fire (I assume the pad does not "press a key" but somehow sends the "scroll" command direclty. How can I catch that command in WPF? Thanks a lot, Chris [EDIT] I got the scroll to work, but only up and down, not left and right. It was just a stupid "listbox in scrollviewer" mistake. But still not sure about commands like ZOOM in (which is working even in paint).. Which API contains such things? [EDIT2] Funny, the zoom works in Firefox, the horizontal scrolling does not. But, in paint, the horizontal scrolling works... • Trigger for ComboBox in Silverlight

  Is there any possibility to display selected item of the ComboBox (after popup closing) in a way that is different from its displaying in DropDown List (There are players number and name in the dropdown list, but after list closing I want to see only its number). How can I change a background for the player with some Flag? As far as I know, all of that can be done with triggers, but are they supported in Silverlight 4, VS2010, Silverlight Toolkit 4? • Winforms: How to speed up Invalidate()?

  I'm developing a retained mode drawing application in GDI+. The application can draw simple shapes to a canvas and perform basic editing. The math that does this is optimized to the last byte and is not an issue. I'm drawing on a panel that is using the built-in Controlstyles.DoubleBuffer. Now, my problem arises if I run my app maximized on a big monitor (HD in my case). If I try to draw a line from one corner of the (big) canvas to the diagonally oposite other, it will start to lag and the CPU goes high up. Each graphical object in my app has a boundingbox. Thus, when I invalidate the boundingbox of a line that goes from one corner of the maximized app to the oposite diagonal one, that boundingbox is virtually as big as the canvas. When a user is drawing a line, this invalidation of the boundingbox thus happens on the mousemove event, and there is a clear lag visible. This lag also exists if the line is the only object on the canvas. I've tried to optimize this in many ways. If I draw a shorter line, the CPU and the lag goes down. If I remove the Invalidate() and keep all other code, the app is quick. If I use a Region (that only spans the figure) to invalidate instead of the boundingbox, it is just as slow. If I split the boundingbox into a range of smaller boxes that lie back to back, thus reducing the invalidation area, no visible performance gain can be seen. Thus I'm at a loss here. How can I speed up the invalidation? On a side note, both Paint.Net and Mspaint suffers from the same shortcommings. Word and PowerPoint however, seem to be able to paint a line as described above with no lag and no CPU load at all. Thus it's possible to achieve the desired results, the question is how?

• Different location of assemblies stoped the type casting.

  I am writing a custom Control class in C# for my main project. There're 2 projects, one for my Control and one for my main project. These 2 projects are in the same solution. I add a reference from my main project to my Control project. I notice that the first time after I drag my Control from the Tool Panel onto my main winform, an assembly folder was generated at the C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ProjectAssemblies, and the folder name is something like "jlebh-py01". The first build is always OK, but after I rebuild my Control class or whole solution, a new assembly folder will be generated at C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ProjectAssemblies, and then problem arises, my Control fails to behave well because Visual Studio says that the two types "originates from different location". The error message is as below: [A]MyControl.TypeXXX cannot be cast to [B]MyControl.TypeXXX. Type A orginates from assemblyXXX at location 'C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ProjectAssemblies\jlebh-py01\MyControl.dll' Type B originats from assemblyXXX at location 'C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ProjectAssemblies\ue4i-z3j01\MyControl.dll' If I reference the Control DLL directly instead of through project reference, or never rebuild the Control project after use my Control in the main project, things seem to be OK. Does anyone knows why? Is it the proper way to develop a control and a main project within the same solution? Many thanks...
