• Apache is sending php files to my browser instead of parsing

• mod_rewrite to nginx rewrite rules

  I have converted most of my Apache HTTPd mod_rewrite rules over to nginx's HttpRewrite module (which calls PHP-FPM via FastCGI on every dynamic request). As I haven't gotten a response from this yet, I am also unsure if this will override my PHP parser which is defined with location ~ \.php {}, which is included before these rewrite rules. Bonus points if I can solve the parsing issues without the need to use a new rule for each number of route properties.

  Most of you certainly use some kind of bugtracker. Maybe internally only, once a customer files a bug via email or phone you add a new ticket by yourself. Sometimes weekly project meetings can be great source of new tickets coming preferably in flavors of excel sheets that the PM on the other side of the table loves to maintain and chase after you. The more advanced (and transparent) version: Allow the customer to file (and see the progress of) his bugs directly into you bugtracker. Systems like JIRA allow you to use profiles to have certain access rights, etc. But now the question: The bug raised by a user not necessary translates into 1 bug in a specific module/method/EJB/class. The version of the (your) web application he uses does not translate into the version of the class that is causing the error. How you maintain the internal part of the ticket with all the nasty techy details and the same time the make-the-user-feel-good ticket (need more info, accepted, in progress,..) ? Creating 2 tickets for internal and external ? Link them ? Any smart recipes to share ?

• Parsing unicode XML with Python SAX on App Engine

  I'm using xml.sax with unicode strings of XML as input, originally entered in from a web form. On my local machine (python 2.5, using the default xmlreader expat, running through app engine), it works fine. However, the exact same code and input strings on production app engine servers fail with "not well-formed".   I thought I had a working solution for converting .mdi files to PDF using the Microsoft Office Document Imaging object model. The solution is in a Windows Service, but now I'm running into some errors that I'm having trouble tracking down info on. The exception I get is: The server threw an exception. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010105 (RPC_E_SERVERFAULT)) at MODI.DocumentClass.Create(String FileOpen) at DocumentStore.Mdi2PDF(String path, String newPath) Then, in the Event Viewer there is the following Application error: Faulting application MyWindowsServiceName.exe, version 1.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4b97f185, faulting module mso.dll, version 12.0.6425.1000, time stamp 0x49d65443, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000bd8e, process id 0xa5c, application start time 0x01cac08cf032914b. Here's the method that is doing the conversion: private int? So, it seems to be caused by creating too many instances of the MODI object, but only instantiated within a Service? Doesn't quite make sense. Anybody have any clues about these errors and how to debug them further?

• Integrating a Custom Compiler with the Visual Studio IDE

  Background: I want to create a custom VB compiler, extending the "original" compiler, to handle my custom compile-time attributes. Question: after I've created my custom compiler and I've got an executable file capable of compiling VB code via the standard command-line interface, how do I integrate this compiler with the Visual Studio IDE? (such that pressing "compile" or "build" will make use of my compiler instead of the default compiler). EDIT: (Correct me if i'm wrong) From the reactions here, I see this question is a bit shocking, so I shall further explain my needs and background: .NET provides us with a great mechanism called Attributes. As far as I understand, making attributes apply their intended behavior upon the attributed element (assembly, module, class, method, etc.) - attributes must be reflected upon. So the real trick here is reflecting and applying behavior at the right spot. Lets take Serialization for example: We decorate a class with the Serializable attribute. We then pass an instance of the class to the formatter's Serialize method. The formatter reflects upon the instance, checking if it has the Serializable attribute, and acting accordingly. Now, if we examine the Synchronization, Flags, Obsolete and CLSCompliant attributes, then the real question is: who reflects upon them? At least in some cases, it has to be the compiler (and/or IDE). Therefore, it seems that if I wish to create custom attributes that change an element's behavior regardless of any specific consumer, i must extend the compiler to reflect upon them at compilation. Of course, these are not my personal insights: the book "Applied .NET Attributes" provides a complete example of creating a custom attribute and a custom C# compiler to reflect upon that attribute at compilation (the example is used to implement "java-style checked exceptions").

However, when I type copy[:,1] into the Python shell, it gives me the following output, which is clearly wrong, and is probably what is throwing the error: array([1, 6, 1, 6, 1, 6, 1, 6, 1, 6, 1, 6, 1, 6, 1, 6, 1, 6]) Can anyone show me how to fix my code so that I can extract the second column and then take the mean of the second column as intended in the original code above? • Rails apps blew up on mediatemple's (dv) server

  i managed to fix this issue but i wanted to document it here for any others whom might have similar problems. I'm running a mediatemple (dv) rage server. monit started sending me alerts that i was having resource limitations on the server. logged into plesk and the CPU was pinned at 99.9%. Rebooted the server, catastrophe avoided... Not quite - all my rails apps were not loading My Setup ruby 1.8.6 Rails 2.3.5 w/ passenger installed as an apache module. I noticed a defunct ruby process so i killed and rebooted the server but runby continued to come back as defunct. Started trolling thru the apache log and i saw errors irt updating rubygems. i updated to the latest but then continued to get gem errors. Basically, I had to go thru all my apps and update any gems manually, reboot apache, and all was restored. Not really sure the cause of the issue but wanted to note it for posterity. Anybody else in the community ever have similar issues???

• IIS as proxy to rails/mongrel - force a proxied host to generate REMOTE_USER

  Hello -- Using Application Request Routing I have IIS 7.5 set up as a reverse proxy to a Mongrel service which is serving a rails app. IIS is set up to use Windows Auth and is working but I cannot access the REMOTE_USER variable in the rails app to get at current user's identity. I have inspected the request object in rails and I don't have any other variables like LOGON_USER, HTTP_REMOTE_USER, AUTH_USER, etc. I am trying to find a way to inject the REMOTE_USER variable into Mongrel's server variables. This post describes what I am looking for using mod_rewrite on Apache but I am having trouble recreating this rule for iis. this is the rewrite rule from the post mentioned above for Apache RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{LA-U:REMOTE_USER} (.+) RewriteRule . - [E=RU:%1] Header add X-Forwarded-User %{RU}e I tried reproducing the rule in IIS and got a URL Rewrite Module error ("The condition's expression "%{LA-U:REMOTE_USER}" is invalid."). I know I'm probably using Apache syntax where IIS syntax is needed but am not sure how to proceed at this point. Any help greatly appreciated.

• jQuery validator not working in unit testing

What am I missing?

• FancyURLOpener failing since moving to python 3.1.2

  I had an application that was downloading a .CSV file from a password-protected website then processing it futher. I was using FancyURLOpener, and simply hardcoding the username and password. (Obviously, security is not a high priority in this particular instance). Since downloading Python 3.1.2, this code has stopped working. Does anyone know of the changes that have happened to the implementation? • Jackson XML globally set element name for container types

  I'm using Jackson 1.9.2 with the XML databind module. I need to tweak the way that Jackson serializes arrays, lists, collections. By default, with an int array property called myProperty containing a couple numbers, Jackson / XML is producing the following: <myProperty> <myProperty>1</myProperty> <myProperty>2</myProperty> </myProperty> What I need to produce is: <myProperty> <item>1</item> <item>2</item> </myProperty> I can do this on a per-POJO basis using a combination of JacksonXmlElementWrapper and JacksonXmlProperty like so: @JacksonXmlElementWrapper(localname='myProperty') @JacksonXmlProperty(localname='item') public int[] myProperty; This solution, however, would require that I manually apply these annotations to every array, list, collection in my POJOs. A much better solution would allow me to apply a solution once, globally, for all array, list, collection types. Any ideas on how to implement such a solution? Thanks!

• Dynamic controls not creating with RSS reader function

  Hello, I am working on a test project for an RSS reader. I am using Chilkat's module for .NET 3.5. What I am trying to do is this: For each item in the RSS feed, I want to dynamically create some controls (labels) that contain stuff like the title, the link and the publication date. The problem is that only the first control comes up "rssTitle", but not the rest and it's definitely not creating the rest, nor cycling through the RSS items. Any ideas where I'm wrong in my code? • Ruby metaclass madness

  I'm stuck. I'm trying to dynamically define a class method and I can't wrap my head around the ruby metaclass model. Consider the following class: class Example def self.meta; (class << self; self; end); end def self.class_instance; self; end end Example.class_instance.class # => Class Example.meta.class # => Class Example.class_instance == Example # => true Example.class_instance == Example.meta # => false Obviously both methods return an instance of Class. But these two instances are not the same. They also have different ancestors: Example.meta.ancestors # => [Class, Module, Object, Kernel] Example.class_instance.ancestors # => [Example, Object, Kernel] Whats the point in making a difference between the metaclass and the class instance? I figured out, that I can send :define_method to the metaclass to dynamically define a method, but if I try to send it to the class instance it won't work. At least I could solve my problem, but I still want to understand why it is working this way.

• drupal_add_css not working

  Hiya, I need to use drupal_add_css to call stylesheets onto single D6 pages. I don't want to edit the main theme stylesheet as there will be a set of individual pages which all need completely new styles - the main sheet would be massive if i put it all in there. My solution was to edit the page in PHP editor mode and do this: <?php drupal_add_css("/styles/file1.css", "theme"); ?> <div id="newPageContent">stuff here in html</div> But when i view source, there is nothing there! Not even a broken css link or anything, it's just refusing to add the css sheet to the css package put into the page head. • Wysiwyg with image copy/paste

  First, I understand that an image cannot be "copied" from a local machine into a website. I understand that it must be uploaded. I am a web programmer, and am familiar with common web wysiwyg tools such as TinyMCE and FCKEditor. My question is if there exists a program or web module or something of the sort that works will perform an automatic upload of images for a wysiwyg. I have a client that is constantly complaining about not being able to copy/paste documents with images from MS Word into a wysiwyg to create content on their website. I have looked into TX Text Control (http://labs.textcontrol.com/) and was looking into a possibly flash wysiwyg that could upload the file automatically behind the scenes. I don't know if this exists, and google did not much help me in my search, so I thought I would ask other coders. I am open to any sort of server technology, or browser requirements. I am looking for some browser based tool instead of an application tool such as Dreamweaver or otherwise. If no good solution to the problem exists, I am willing to accept that at this point. Note: This was a request from a client, and to me it seemed rather unreasonable. I decided to gather community advice instead of just tell the client 'No' and the options here have been extremely helpful and informative in presenting possible solutions.

Why not define it directly at the needed module?

  Hi I want to work around a 'bug' in certain RSS-feeds, which use an incorrect namespace for the mediaRSS module. I tried to do it by manipulating the DOM programmatically, but using XSLT seems more flexible to me.
