• boost's regex won't compile

  Hi everyone. I am using boost 1.45.0 on Ubuntu with Code::Blocks as my IDE, and I can't get basic_regex.hpp to compile. I'm pretty sure I set up boost correctly, because I can compile programs using boost::format without any errors. But I'm getting this annoying error, and I don't know how to get rid of it. • Using a C#.net DLL in Node.js / serverside javascript

  I have spent a while playing with node.js and exploring related frameworks such as express and geddy... and I am very impressed, especially with the WebSockets implementation in socket.io. I have a pet project that is an online game, the entire game engine is written in C# and I would like to know if there is anyway I can call the functions of this existing dll from a solution built using node.js, socket.io, express etc? The game engine itself is pretty complete; tested and robust. I am hoping there is some neat way of exposing its functionality without to much overhead. Thanks

• sorting and paging with gridview asp.net

  I'm trying to get a gridview to sort and page manually with no success. The problem is that when a user clicks the column they want to sort, it sorts that page, but doesn't sort the datasource (dataview) behind the gridview. So when they progress to a different page, their sort is lost. Pretty much I'm looking for a sort that will actually sort the datasource behind the gridview. • What does using RESTful URLs buy me?

  I've been reading up on REST, and I'm trying to figure out what the advantages to using it are. Specifically, what is the advantage to REST-style URLs that make them worth implementing over a more typical GET request with a query string? Why is this URL: http://www.parts-depot.com/parts/getPart?id=00345 Considered inferior to this? http://www.parts-depot.com/parts/00345 In the above examples (taken from here) the second URL is indeed more elegant looking and concise. But it comes at a cost... the first URL is pretty easy to implement in any web language, out of the box. The second requires additional code and/or server configuration to parse out values, as well as additional documentation and time spent explaining the system to junior programmers and justifying it to peers. So, my question is, aside from the pleasure of having URLs that look cool, what advantages do RESTful URLs gain for me that would make using them worth the cost of implementation?

• Writing an Iron Python debugger

  As a learning exercise I'm writing myself a simple extension / plugin / macro framework using IronPython - I've gotten the basics working but I'd like to add some basic debugging support to make my script editor easier to work with. I've been hunting around on the internet a bit and I've found a couple of good resources on writing managed debuggers (including Mike Stall's excellent .Net Debugging blog and the MSDN documentaiton on the CLR Debugging API) - I understand that IronPython is essentially IL however apart from that I'm a tad lost on how to get started, in particular: Are there any significant differences between debugging a dynamic language (such as IronPython) to a static one (such as C#)? Do I need to execute my script in a special way to get IronPython to output suitable debugging information? Is debugging a script running inside the current process going to cause deadlocks, or does IronPython execute my script in a child process? Am I better off looking into how to produce a simple C# debugger first to get the general idea? (I'm not interested in the GUI aspect of making a debugger for now - I've already got a pretty good idea of how this might work)

• Google Closure Library - Adding non-TreeNode children to a TreeNode

  Hi, I'm using the Google Closure Library and goog.ui.tree in particular to build a tree structure GUI component. It works pretty well out of the box, but I'd like to add a few extra controls to each of the leaves (goog.ui.Checkboxes in particular). The problem is that Component.addChild has been overridden in BaseNode so that each added child is treated as a child tree node as opposed to a child component. In effect plenty of errors are thrown if you try to add anything else than an actual tree node as a child, as these children are traversed and BaseNode-specific functions are called on them. I must admit I'm quite a Closure newb, but I reckon there must be some workaround for this, right? Essentially all I want to do is have a bunch of checkboxes appear next to each leaf in my tree. • Qt: how to build QML apps for Symbian devices?

  I am pretty new to Qt and I have just started looking at QML. There are some sample applications included with the Nokia Qt SDK for Symbian and I have managed to load them into Qt Creator and run them using the QML Viewer application on the desktop. I would like to try some of the samples out on a device, but I am totally clueless as to how I would go about getting the qml files to run on a device. Are they first packaged into a sis file and installed or is the folder simply copied over? If so how is the app started on the device? Having done some googling the only information I seem to be able to find says that the Qt libraries available for Symbian devices at the moment is only 4.6.3 whereas version 4.7.0 is required for QML apps? Does this mean that I won't be able to run QML apps on a device at the moment? (Device is S60 5th Edition) Any help or pointers in the right direction for more information would be much appreciated.

• CSS - 100% Height Layout with Variable Height Header

  The layout I want to achieve is pretty simple. I want a 100% height layout with a header, and below the header I will have a side bar for navigation and then the content area beside the navigation bar (2-column with header). I can easily do this if I give the header a specified height but I want the header to just take up as much room as is needed. Does anyone know how to do this? Is it possible without knowing the height of the header? Thanks for any help.

• WPF MediaPlayer doesn't play M4A?

  I am trying to use a MediaPlayer instance to play M4A files. For those of you that aren't familiar, MediaPlayer is the non-XAML version of a MediaElement. There are pretty much the same, but I don't want any XAML, so I use a MediaPlayer instead. Anyways, it plays some M4A files just fine. The NaturalDuration of other M4A files is 0, but it still plays. The remaining files don't play at all and the exception thrown is "Media file download failed." Playing all these songs using Windows Media Player works perfectly. Isn't the MediaPlayer and MediaElement classes built upon the same framework as WMP? I'm confused as to why it isn't working. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nick

• Detect Browser Refresh vs. Form Submit in ASP.Net MVC 2

  I have an ASP.Net questionnaire application that resubmits data to the same page, showing a different question each time. There are BACK and NEXT buttons to navigate between questions. I would like to detect when the form is submitted due to a browser refresh vs. one of the buttons being pressed. I came across a WebForms approach but don't know how to apply those principals in an MVC 2 application since page events aren't available (as far as I know... I'm pretty new to Microsoft's MVC model). How would one apply that principle to MVC 2? Is there a better way to detect refresh?

  Hi, I've been pulling my hair out trying to get some matrix calculations working properly and started to wonder. If I have the following: glPushMatrix(); float m[16]; glGetFloatv(GL_MODELVIEW_MATRIX, m); glPopMatrix(); What should I expect the values of m to equal? Currently I'm getting these values and I'm confused as to where they're coming from: -1, 0, 0, 0, 0, -0.6139, 0.7893522, 0, 0, 0.789352238, 0.61394, 0, 0, 0.0955992, -1.344529, 1, I'm assuming there is something which affects this, but I'm not sure what. Could anyone help? I've tried changing pretty much anything but everytime I push the matrix stack I always get this matrix straight away! I don't think this makes a difference but I'm using OpenGLES. • Transition domain to new web host without waiting for DNS propagation

  I was considering switching to Amazon EC2 to host my website to handle more traffic. It seems like I would have to update DNS records to point to the new server but I was wondering if there was a way to avoid having to wait for the new DNS record to propagate. Putting the code on both hosts would not work for me since the app writes to a database pretty frequently. I thought about just using a meta redirect or php redirect on the old host to redirect to the new host ip but was wondering if there's a better more accepted way of doing this.

• IE6 Hacks: Getting jQuery tools expose to work properly on my site

  Hi, I am trying to get the jQuery tools 'expose' function to work properly in IE6. The page is http://204.51.246.10:12123/ You will need IE6 to reproduce the bug (obviously :)). If you click 'Sign In' on the top-right corner (below the 'Join Today!' button), you will notice that the sign in panel (fieldset#login-controls) is getting covered by the background of its parent element (.signinPanel), which is very weird. It is not on the top of z-index, and I can't figure out why. Please note that in order to get fieldset#login-controls positioned correctly, I have applied the following hack for IE6: $("#header, #header div, #header table, #header td, #header tr").css("position", "static"); $("fieldset#login-controls *").css("position", "static"); This might be the reason for the above. • Settings up a Mercurial server on IIS 6

  Hi, I've set up a Mercurial server on a Windows 2003 / IIS 6 machine and when I try to pull the repository I get the following sequence requesting all changes adding changesets adding manifests adding file changes transaction abort! rollback completed abort: premature EOF reading chunk (got 91303 bytes, expected 1542634) I've tried pretty much everything I can think of, but with no success. I followed the steps of Jeremy Skinners guide on doing it for IIS7, but on an IIS6 server. I found a post where the author was experiencing the same issue, but was unable to find a solution. So far it looks like the solution is to migrate to Apache or upgrade to Windows 2008/II7 .. but if someone knows how to solve this, please let me know

I know that in C# I would use a byte. • WatiN wait for java script execution completed before click link (IE)

  i have this page displaying statement every 2 second (using javascript), at the end of it there is a link which the user can click. with IE it will click the link before javascript generated statement is completed. when i use Link.Click() (with Firefox it will throw exception, which is fine with me) is there a way to wait for javascript execution to complete before link gets clicked (IE)?   I'm pretty sure of the answer, but just wanted to check with you all. Is it possible to play an embedded AAC file in Flash/Flex somehow? I know you can playback embedded MP3 files, but I hear that you can't do that with AAC. Anyone know any sneaky ways to get around this? By way of illustration, here's come code. • Programmatically retrieve disconnected network adapter information in .NET

  I have an application written in C# that needs to retrieve information like IP address, subnet mask from a disconnected network adapter. I've tried using various methods such as WMI and the .NET NetworkAdapter class but they don't return any useful data when the network adapter is disconnected. I'm pretty sure Windows keeps this information somewhere, since I can apply network settings using netsh and it appears correctly in the Control Panel. One thing that worked for me in XP was to parse the output of the netsh tool and it would return information even for a disconnected adapter. However, this doesn't seem to work on Windows 7. Win XP output: Configuration for interface "Local Area Connection 5" DHCP enabled: No IP Address: 169.254.0.128 SubnetMask: 255.255.255.0 InterfaceMetric: 0 Win7 output: Configuration for interface "Local Area Connection 2" DHCP enabled: No InterfaceMetric: 5 Any ideas?

• Windows Workflow and sql script in declarative config like InRule

  We have been using InRule for our Rule needs we have found that it does not scale well and so are investigating the Windows Work Flow. Within InRule we could configure pretty much have any task for example our sql scripts and stored procedures where all part of a separate rule config file, I am wondering if there is a similar functionality within windows work flow where I could just call a declarative task and pass it a bunch of parameters – This task should contain the sql script I would be executing , we should be able to change the script at runtime without recompilation to the WF code. Is this possible in Windows Work flow – How can I accomplish this within work flow. Additionally for sql execution within Work Flow, how does it get the connection string. Should it be passed from the calling program – is passing it as input parameter from the Calling app via the Dictionary object the best way or can the work flow code have visibility to my calling program app.config and get the connection string ?

• iPhone - Dismiss modal view by a UITabBarController

  Hi everyone, I've got into a very strange problem. I created my own UITabBarController to customize it and it works pretty well... except for the modal views. When I dismiss the modal view (present/dismiss from the UITabBarController) with an animation, it waits until the animation did finished and goes to the first controller of the tab bar! Why does the controller change? and how can I fix it? Thanks PS: My UITabBarController view is on the main window and has a UITabBar on it. The controllers (which are managed by the tab bar) are on the main window over the tab bar controller view with a shorter height. When I present the modal view, I bring the tab bar controller view to front.

• How do I iterate over the properties of an anonymous object in C#?

  I want to take an anonymous object as argument to a method, and then iterate over its properties to add each property/value to a a dynamic ExpandoObject. So what I need is to go from new { Prop1 = "first value", Prop2 = SomeObjectInstance, Prop3 = 1234 } to knowing names and values of each property, and being able to add them to the ExpandoObject. How do I accomplish this? Side note: This will be done in many of my unit tests (I'm using it to refactor away a lot of junk in the setup), so performance is to some extent relevant. I don't know enough about reflection to say for sure, but from what I've understood it's pretty performance heavy, so if it's possible I'd rather avoid it... Follow-up question: As I said, I'm taking this anonymous object as an argument to a method. What datatype should I use in the method's signature? Will all properties be available if I use object?

• Browser won't connect to svn server

  This has been driving me nuts. For some reason, I can't access my svn repository using a browser in this laptop that I'm using right now (firefox & ie) The connection just times out. I'm at home right now and the server is in another room. It connects OK there and it also connects OK in my virtual machine in this same laptop. I'm pretty stumped right now and can't figure out why this is happening. I've also checked the proxies and I'm 100% sure I'm not using any at all. The virtual machine running on this laptop is XP 32bit and this one is a Win7 64 bit. Thanks

  I am trying to start working with excel documents through the OpenXML SDK Spreadsheet API. But I havent found any good guides or even examples on how to create a xlsx file from scratch. Only how to open an existing document and modify it. I have been thinking on having a empty template document and make a copy of it an then begin my proccessing on it. But it doesent feel right. It might be easier but I not comfortable using a technique I dont feel that I understand "pretty" good atleast. • Using Git with VB6

  Our company has a large codebase in VB6, and we currently use VSS which, for all that we hate about it, at least integrates into the VB6 IDE. My own team, which is using .NET, are now looking into alternative SCMs like my personal favourite, Git. With Git Extensions, it seems we will be able to integrate Git commands into the Visual Studio IDE pretty well. However, the question has been asked: could Git be used for our VB6 codebase too? Of course I assume the files themselves would work fine in git repositories, but no doubt developers would complain if they had to use the command-line to do all their source control. But has anyone had any experience using VB6 and Git? Any integration available from within the VB6 IDE? Or is it perhaps not that much of a hassle to not have the IDE integration? And do I get a badge for being the first to create the absurd tag combination of [vb6] and [git]?

Here are the 2 domain classes: class Photo { byte[] file static belongsTo = Profile } class Profile { String fullName Set photos static hasMany = [photos:Photo] } The relevant controller snippet: class PhotoController { ..... def viewImage = { def photo = Photo.get( params.id ) byte[] image = photo.file response.outputStream << image } ...... } Finally the GSP snippet: <img class="Photo" src="${createLink(controller:'photo', action:'viewImage', id:'profileInstance.photos.get(1).id')}" /> Now how do I access the photo so that it will be shown on the GSP? I'm pretty sure that profileInstance.photos.get(1).id is not correct. Thanks!!
