• Wi-Fi not working only on Ubuntu computer?

  The Wi-Fi at our house does not work on my Asus notebook running Ubuntu 12.04. It works fine on all other devices except this one. Internet worked fine before I had Ubuntu and I had Windows 7, but we also had a different ISP and place. My roommate's Windows 7 notebook and netbook both work fine with the internet and so do all of our phones and iPods. I do not know what is wrong because it works fine EVERYWHERE else, but when I am connected to my own router at my house it is either EXTREMELY slow or it just loads and loads and loads. I have all of the correct drivers and all that so why is it just this one connection that is a problem. I do not know if this matters but the ISP is Comcast and so is the Modem/wireless-router. Any help is much appreciated, thank you.

• Ubuntu crashed while 13.10 was installing and now it doesn't detect my keyboard when I boot

  I was running the 13.04 to 13.10 installer, and it slowly caused Ubuntu to break down until eventually the installer itself along with Unity crashed, forcing me to Alt+SysRq+B. Now, when I try to start Ubuntu it doesn't detect my keyboard at all. It boots up completely fine apart from that bringing me to the 13.10 login screen. The backlight on my keyboard remains on but not a single thing works, not even SysRq. I was imagining that if I could run apt-get dist-upgrade it could finish the update, but I couldn't get that far.

• Ubuntu crashed during the update to 12.04, not I can't recover my files, help please

  I'm pretty new to Linux and I've only installed Ubuntu as I couldn't afford to buy Windows, worked well and I liked it. But I chose to upgrade it to the newest version after a prompt. The update froze and the machine was unresponsive which forced me to hard reboot it. Now nothing seems to load and I've reached my wits end (mainly cos I'm lost in all the command lines). I've decided to try and recover my data from the hard drive, only two folders, by selecting the try Ubuntu option when I insert the OS CD into the machine. The problem I'm experiencing now is it won't let me copy my folders, I get a 'The folder contents could not be displayed. You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "folder_name".' Does anyone know how I can recover this data?

• Ubuntu 12.10 hasa no wireless connectivity on Dell Inspiron 1520

  I have just installed Ubuntu for the first time ever. I have just installed it in a Dell Inspiron 1520 that came pre installed with Windows Vista and i currently run both of the OS (I just choose when the computer starts up). The wifi definitely works on the computer since i used it to download Ubuntu in the first place when I was using Vista. The Network Manager says that I only have a 'Wired' Network and it doesn't have any other options to choose from. I connected the Laptop into a wired connection and downloaded the 'Wicd Network Manager' but it had no effect either. From there I continued to go into 'Software Sources' and installed the wireless drive but that had no effect either. So... What can I do?

  I have Windows 7(64 bit) installed on my system along with Ubuntu 12.04. I want to upgrade to 14.04 version of ubuntu but since I do not have a good internet connection I am unable to upgrade it using update manager. I somehow managed to get a .iso file downloaded. Is there some way i can upgrade using a cd or usb drive? I am not sure which boot loader i have. I installed 12.04 using wubi installer. I dont want to mess up my system so please someone help me regarding this??

  Currently testing Ubuntu 12.04 x64 for our development team. After upgrading from 11.10 I've been having video card issues. I'm using Nvidia GeForce GTX 460. When ever I try to launch Nvidia X server I get the following error message. You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run nvidia-xconfig as root), and restart the X server. I've tried running sudo nvidia-xconfig multiple times and rebooting with no success. I've also tried getting the nvidia-current driver from the x-swat repo sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current Followed again by a reboot did nothing for me but knock my resolution down to 800x600 Finally I've tried sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg xserver-xorg-video-all sudo reboot Does anyone have any thoughts or directions they could point me in? To the best of my understanding my video card is suppose to be supported.

  I've wanted to switch from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 and downloaded proper ISO. During install I was asked if I wanted to reinstall Ubuntu. I used this option thinking that it will only delete all system files and install new ones. It turned out to be a mistake - it wipe my HDD from all partitions and created new one. I've lost all my data including personal and important photos from over 6 years. Is there a way I can recover entire partition (NTFS)? Moreover, I'm really angry with you Canonical that you could allowed that misleading desctiption to be included in a full release!

• Unable to execute gs program: No such file or directory

  I've setup CUPS + Avahi on my NAS box in order to enable AirPrint with my existing network printer. Printing a test page via CUPS and printing us lp works fine, and I am able to see my printer on the printer list on my iOS device. However when sending a print job from my iOS device the printer status is set to paused and doesnt print anything. When checking the error_logs I have found this line which I believe is causing the error. • QMail do not delivery to remote mailboxes for my own domain

  Sorry for the title, I don't know how to sum up this situation. I have a web server at mydomain.com, running qmail for website related mail delivery (i.e. newsletter, sign up confirmation, etc). qmail here is used only to send mails, because I have a fully working Google App Gmail associated with mydomain.com for normal email receiving. qmail runs fine when sending email to remote addresses, for example to [email protected], but fails when sending to [email protected]. I think it's because the server thinks that he have to manage mailboxes for mydomain.com locally, instead of redirect them to Gmail.   Hi, I'm having a problem reading data from a text file into ms sql. I created a text file in my c:\ called data.txt, but for some reason ms sql server cannot find the file. I get the error "Cannot bulk load. The file "c:\data.txt" does not exist." Any ideas?   As title, I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, and my ubuntu kept showing the sign “Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode”. I've read another question with same topic (http://askubuntu.com/questions/10664/how-do-i-fix-ubuntu-is-running-in-low-graphics-mode ), but the other one is using ATI Radeon X1200. How can I fix the problem? I'm running Ubuntu on a 200GB partition, and the rest of my computer is Windows7. My graphic card is NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M, and my computer is ACER ASPIRE 5951G.

• How to Get Windows 7 Theme Wallpapers Without Installing Them

  Are you using an older version of Windows but like the Windows 7 theme wallpapers? What if you have Windows 7 but you don’t want to install the themes just to get the wallpapers? Here is how to get them without having to install themes. This guest article was written by Ryan Dozier from the Doztech tech blog. Getting the Wallpaper on XP, Vista, or Windows 7 First download and install 7-zip on your machine (link below). After you’ve installed 7-zip, download a Windows 7 theme (link below) and right-click on the theme, select 7-Zip, and Extract to “Theme Name”… A new folder will appear with the theme name on it. When you open it, there will be a folder called DesktopBackground or something similar.   Open the folder to get the wallpapers to view the wallpapers for the theme. You can delete the extra files and just keep the wallpapers!   Getting the Wallpaper on Ubuntu Extracting the wallpaper on Ubuntu can be a little tricky. Just follow these steps and you will be able to do it. First go to the Ubuntu Software Center under the Applications menu. Search for 7zip and click on the arrow to go to the applications menu. Find the Install button and click it. It will take a couple of minutes for 7zip to install. After 7zip installs, close the Ubuntu Software Center and download a Windows 7 theme. Store it somewhere you can access it quickly. Right-click on the theme and select Rename and get rid of the themepack extension and replace it with zip. The file should be “Theme Name.zip” after you rename it. Right-click on the theme and click Extract Here. After  the extracting you will have a new folder with the theme name. Open it and go into the DesktopBackground folder to get the wallpapers. You can delete the extra files and just keep the wallpapers. If you want to get the new Windows 7 Themes Wallpapers, but don’t want to search and install them separately, this is a nice workaround. • Configuring Touchpad Multi-Tap on Ubuntu 11.10

  I am having a hard time configuring my notebook's touchpad. I can do everything I can in Windows with the exception of three-finger tap, which doesn't work, and the action of two-finger tap which is giving me the equivalent to a right-mouse click, when I wanted a middle-mouse click. I read on a forum to use this as a guide. The problem is that I can't even find the configuration file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf. I tried running pacman -S xf86-input-synaptics but I don't have the pacman program installed. When I try to install it by sudo apt-get install I get a pacman game instead! I know the guide is for archlinux, so maybe that's why it doesn't work with me. I am running Ubuntu 11.10 on an Asus N82JV. Any help on this is appreciated. • ubuntu 3D is slow on Nvidia driver,any help?

  I have installed ubuntu 12.04 and it's very slow in moving any windows and in 3d animation and the problem is from the Nvidia driver and when I switched to the Ubuntu 2d it works fine but without the 3d animations in ubuntu 3d so this make me remove ubuntu until the yfix this problem so , have they fixed this problem or not , If not , is there any solution to enable the 3d animation ((I am a new user to ubuntu and medium experienced ,so please I don't want complexed answer :)
