  • Best intranet solution for a small digital agency?

    - by Rob B
I work for a small digital agency (10-15 employees). We design and build websites (using php and Django). Are we better off building our own intranet using django or going for a pre built (free or paid for) solution? Key features needed: Project management (basecamp clone) Time reporting Local and external file sharing (dropbox clone)

  • MS Publisher 2003 - hangs when saving to desktop

    - by Chris
We have a win 7 home prem pc, amd cpu, 8G ram, plenty of free disk space. Whenever user is working in publisher 20003, and tries to save a publisher 2003 document to the desktop, the save as dialog hangs and takes 2-3 minutes to display the desktop save location. I've tested excel 2003, it has no problems immediately displaying the desktop save as location and saving the file.

  • Stereo mix causing inaudible input in XP?

    - by jsnlxndrlv
I'm trying to record some of my work process in Camtasia using the stereo mix input. However, my headset microphone is quiet at the best of times, and no matter what combination of input and output volume settings I use, my voice is consistently inaudible. Know of a good fix for this? Should I be looking for a decent audio mixer--and if so, do you know of one that's as effective as it is free?

  • Switching to Linux and Keeping Windows With VirtualBox

    - by Perishable Dave
Hi guys, I'm currently running a Vista machine, but would like to switch over to Linux, Ubuntu in particular. My question is can I switch over to Ubuntu, keep my Windows partition and use VirtualBox to access the pre-existing Windows partition? Or does VirtualBox require me to create a new install for Guest operating systems? If not, are there any other free alternatives to accomplish this? Thanks

  • Is there a Hypercam for Mac OS X?

    - by mrpwnscroner
I don't care if it's not free; I switched from PC to Mac recently and I kind of miss Hypercam to record our best moments in games (Halo, Combat Arms, Starcraft, etc) and showing hacks. I tried to use Crossover Pro 8 and 9 and it hasn't worked. If anyone has a solution, let me know. Thanks!

  • Simple, current how-to install mod-security on cPanel server?

    - by linux911
Does anyone have or know of a simple, up to date how to for installing mod-security on cPanel and configuring it after install? Every how to on the web I've found is at least two years old and is based on a mod-security addon function in cPanel which doesn't exist anymore. There are a couple of free add ons to simplify selecting rule files (configserver's for example) but there's no documentation on which rules a cPanel system "should" be using and so on.

  • poorman's redandunt domain name server array

    - by John
Can I configure my domain, example.com's name servers as: ns1.dyndns.com ns2.dyndns.com ns1.opendns.com ns2.opendns.com That is, combining free dns services to create a redundant name server array? Note these name servers from different companies are not aware other companies' name servers also serve our domain. In case one company, say, ns1(2).dyndns.com is down, will people experience interruption when visiting my example.com? If one name server is unreachable, the next name server will be tried, or?

  • Nagios plugin script not working as expected

    - by Linker3000
I have modified an off-the-shelf Nagios plugin perl script to (in theory) return a one or zero according to the existence, or not, of a file on a remote linux server. The script runs a remote ssh session and logs in as the nagios user. The remote linux servers have private keys setup for that user, and on the bash command line the script works as expected, but when run as a plugin it always returns '1' (true) even if the file does not exist. Some help with the logic or a comment on why things are not working as expected within Nagios would be appreciated. I'd prefer to use this ssh login method rather than having to install nrpe on all the linux servers. To run from a command line (assuming remote server has a user called nagios with a valid private key): ./check_reboot_required -e ssh -H remote-servers-ip-addr -p 'filename-to-check' -v Ta. #! /usr/bin/perl -w # # # License Information: # This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify # it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by # the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or # (at your option) any later version. # # This program is distributed in the hope that it will be useful, # but WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY; without even the implied warranty of # MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. • What are your tricks for optimizing your Subversion configuration?

    - by Scott Markwell
For a Linux or Windows system, what tricks do you do to optimize your Subversion server? The following are my current tricks for a Linux system serving over Apache with HTTPS and backed by Active Directory using LDAP authentication. Enabling KeepAlive on Apache Disable SVNPathAuthz Increase LDAP Cache Using the FSFS storage method instead of BDB Feel free to call this into question. I don't have hard proof that FSFS out performs BDB, only lots of tribal knowledge and hearsay.

  • Good on-screen ruler application for Windows?

    - by musicfreak
What's a good (preferably free) on-screen ruler for Windows? (Vista, if it matters.) I just need to measure a few things (in pixels) on the screen. I need it to be flexible (easily resizable and able to measure both vertically and horizontally), and hopefully not look like crap, although I can deal with that if it does what I need. A quick Google search revealed a ton of different applications, and I don't want to try every single one.

  • Cannot see folders on my external drive [closed]

    - by Incognito
I have a Windows Vista Home Premium machine, and am using a WD portable drive. My external drive is showing that it is occupying space, but I am no longer able to see any of my folders in there. Out of the 1 TB, its shows that 600 gigs are free, but the folders are gone! Please suggest some way of retrieving the files (I think they're must be some way to retireve them, since the disk utilization shows that something is on the disk). Appreciate your help!

  • Japanese keyboard layout in Windows 7 doesn't correspond to what's written on the physical keyboard

    - by theo
I have an English version of Windows 7, but my keyboard is Japanese. However, even though I choose a Japanese keyboard (Microsoft IME) under Keyboard and Languages, the layout isn't right. I think it's English layout, but I can't be sure. Anyway, I want the layout and usage to be exactly like it is on a Japanese Windows 7, as there are some nice (mouse free) shortcuts to change between input modes. Any suggestions?

  • How to decrease size of KVM virtual machine disk image

    - by Cerin
How do you decrease or shrink the size of a KVM virtual machine disk? I allocated a virtual disk of 500GB (stored at /var/lib/libvirt/images/vm1.img), and I'm finding that overkill, so now I'd like to free up some of that space for use with other virtual machines. There seems to be a lot answers on how to increase image storage, but not decrease it. I found the virt-resize tool, but it only seems to work with raw disk partitions, not disk images.

  • Server market shares

    - by Bill Gray
here can I find somewhat reliable indications of server market shares, without having to fork out $$$$$ for IDC or Gartner reports? I have considered the W3 statistics, net applications etc, and these are not what I would consider reliable. Is there anything more, that is free?

  • A way to extract layer sets from PSD files without Photoshop?

    - by chaddjohnson
Are there any tools for (in order of preference) Mac, Linux, or Windows to extract images per layer set from a PSD file, without using Photoshop? I had a web designer send me a PSD file containing multiple pages, and each page is apparently in a layer set, and GIMP cannot handle these--it can't understand layer groupings. a command line tool, a rinky-dink Windows tool...anything will work, so long as it's free (preferable) or under $30, does not leave watermarks or anything of the sort, and works well.
