  • What would be the market life of a JVM based software framework?

    - by Nav
I saw how Struts 1 lasted from 2000 to 2013. I hear that people are moving from Struts 2 to Spring. But for a project that may need to be maintained for a decade or two, would it be advisable to opt for a framework or directly code with servlets and jquery? Can a system architecture really be designed keeping in mind a particular framework? What really is the market life of a framework? Do the creators of the framework create it with the assumption that it would become obsolete in a decade?

  • How to plan a PHP based project with DB involved in the below scenario? [closed]

    - by San
I'm starting a project on web monitoring where other websites can be monitored. Recently, I have found codeIgniter, yii, kohana frameworks online, but I'm confused as to whether to choose any of those or start directly. Moreover, this is my first big project that I'm planning for. So can anyone give me suggestions on how to start, how to plan, what books to refer to, to start this kind of web application and share some links to understand for myself on how to work on this project?

  • Can I dynamicaly size a div based on discreet units and still center? [closed]

    - by Dave
Here's the problem: I have a website I'm working on that, depending on what the user has selected, will pop up a different number of boxes 80px high and 200px wide and currently set to float:left. These boxes are contained within a div that is basically the whole width of the screen minus some 1% margins. So at the moment they all fill in the box and, depending on screen size, occupy a grid of variable height and width. The problem is, if the screen size makes the containing box, say, 700px wide then you end up with 3 boxes per row and a bloody big margin on the right. What I would like to do is center the grid of boxes inside the containing box so that the margins are equal left and right. I suspect this can't be done since it means the containing box needs to set its size by looking both at the size of the user's window as well as the size of its children. It would be easy to do with javascript but I'd prefer not to if that is an option. If it is truly impossible then I will simply script it and let non-js users see a left-justified set of boxes.

  • Need to organize words based on their components, any other way aside from brute force?

    - by Lathan
I'm not sure if this process has a name. I have some words (about 9,000). They are in Japanese, but I'll try to explain this using English words. I want to categorize the words by the components (in English, letters). A B C act bar play This should create: A: play B: bar C: act Now, 'a' appears in all 3 words, but I want to make sure that each category (letter) has at least word. Now, it would make sense to delete a word after it's used, but there are a few cases where 2 letters make up one word and that's each letter's only word--so I'd like to account for that somehow. Is there an approach for solving this aside from brute force? Dynamic programming perhaps? Even a name for this process (if it exists) would be great.

  • How do I make these fields autopopulate from the database?

    - by dmanexe
    I have an array, which holds values like this: $items_pool = Array ( [0] => Array ( [id] => 1 [quantity] => 1 ) [1] => Array ( [id] => 2 [quantity] => 1 ) [2] => Array ( [id] => 72 [quantity] => 6 ) [3] => Array ( [id] => 4 [quantity] => 1 ) [4] => Array ( [id] => 5 [quantity] => 1 ) [5] => Array ( [id] => 7 [quantity] => 1 ) [6] => Array ( [id] => 8 [quantity] => 1 ) [7] => Array ( [id] => 9 [quantity] => 1 ) [8] => Array ( [id] => 19 [quantity] => 1 ) [9] => Array ( [id] => 20 [quantity] => 1 ) [10] => Array ( [id] => 22 [quantity] => 1 ) [11] => Array ( [id] => 29 [quantity] => 0 ) ) Next, I have a form that I am trying to populate. It loops through the item database, prints out all the possible items, and checks the ones that are already present in $items_pool. <?php foreach ($items['items_poolpackage']->result() as $item): ?> <input type="checkbox" name="measure[<?=$item->id?>][checkmark]" value="<?=$item->id?>"> <?php endforeach; ?> I know what logically I'm trying to accomplish here, but I can't figure out the programming. What I'm looking for, written loosely is something like this (not real code): <input type="checkbox" name="measure[<?=$item->id?>][checkmark]" value="<?=$item->id?>" <?php if ($items_pool['$item->id']) { echo "SELECTED"; } else { }?>> Specifically this conditional loop through the array, through all the key values (the ID) and if there's a match, the checkbox is selected. <?php if ($items_pool['$item->id']) { echo "SELECTED"; } else { }?> I understand from a loop structured like this that it may mean a lot of 'extra' processing. TL;DR - I need to echo within a loop if the item going through the loop exists within another array.

  • Delphi - How do I split a string into an array of strings based on a delimiter?

    - by Ryan
Hello all, I'm trying to find a Delphi function that will split an input string into an array of strings based on a delimiter. I've found a lot on Google, but all seem to have their own issues and I haven't been able to get any of them to work. I just need to split a string like: "word:doc, txt, docx" into an array based on ':'. The result would be ['word', 'doc, txt, docx']. Does anyone have a function that they know works? Thank you

  • How to add markers on Google Maps polylines based on distance along the line?

    - by mikl
I am trying to create a Google Map where the user can plot the route he walked/ran/bicycled and see how long he ran. The GPolyline class with it’s getLength() method is very helpful in this regard (at least for Google Maps API V2), but I wanted to add markers based on distance, for example a marker for 1 km, 5 km, 10 km, etc., but it seems that there is no obvious way to find a point on a polyline based on how far along the line it is. Any suggestions?

  • Can you do conventions-based binding with StructureMap 2.5.3?

    - by Peter Goras
I find one of the best features of Ninject is conventions-based binding. eg. Bind<IConfigurationSource>().To<RemoteConfigurationSource>() .Only(When.Context.Target.Name.BeginsWith("remote")); Bind<IConfigurationSource>().To<LocalConfigurationSource>() .Only(When.Context.Target.Name.BeginsWith("local")); http://ninject.codeplex.com/Wiki/View.aspx?title=Conventions-Based%20Binding&referringTitle=Home Is this possible in StructureMap 2.5.3? • jquery animation callback - how to pass parameters to callback

    - by Hans
I´m building a jquery animation from a multidimensional array, and in the callback of each iteration i would like to use an element of the array. However somehow I always end up with last element of the array instead of all different elements. html: <div id="square" style="background-color: #33ff33; width: 100px; height: 100px; position: absolute; left: 100px;"></div> javascript: $(document).ready(function () { // Array with Label, Left pixels and Animation Lenght (ms) LoopArr = new Array( new Array(['Dog', 50, 500]), new Array(['Cat', 150, 5000]), new Array(['Cow', 200, 1500]) ); $('#square').click(function() { for (x in LoopArr) { $("#square").animate({ left: LoopArr[x][0][1] }, LoopArr[x][0][2], function() { alert (LoopArr[x][0][0]); }); } }); }); ` Current result: Cow, Cow, Cow Desired result: Dog, Cat, Cow How can I make sure the relevant array element is returned in the callback?
