  • Why does bold monoface shift vertically on Windows?

    In Firefox 3.6, IE7 and Opera 10 on Windows, this HTML has an odd behavior: <html><head></head> <style> span { font-family: monospace; background-color: green; } span.b { font-weight: bold; } </style> <body> <span>Text</span><span class="b">Text</span><span>Text</span> </body> </html> The bold span in the middle is shifted down by one pixel. That doesn't happen for other fonts. Why is that? How can I fix it?

  • ASP.NET MVC - Do stylesheets have to go in the Site.Master file?

    Hi all, I noticed that I cannot add stylesheets on any page. They must be added to the master page. I already have about 15 stylesheets in the master view, which seems like overkill, since only some of the pages use a certain stylesheet. I imagine I could reference the file via javascript (although, I can't think of how off the top of my head), but it would be really nice to not have to use any.

  • Increased kerning on website text

    We're developing a site for a client right now and my boss (designer only) is once again making me increase letter-spacing on the text so that it looks 'prettier'. I am of the firm belief that this often causes eye-strain and hinders readability in body copy, but being the boss, she is of course always 'right' until I can provide her with examples showing why she's wrong (generally pretty easy). In this case, however, I can't find any articles talking about eye-strain and kerning, so I figured I'd ask what you guys think about the issue of increased letter-spacing in web text. Take a look at http://sparktoignite.com/allograft/process.php and tell me how you feel about the body copy. We're using font-embedding, so you'll only see the proper font in FF, Safari, and Chrome. Let me know what you guys think about the readability and eye-strain caused by the font. My boss currently thinks it's 100% perfect (she wanted the kerning increased further, but I talked her down luckily).

  • possible to auto zoom out if user's resolution < x ?

    my site is aimed purely at the laptop market (dont ask why or argue!), all my users (or 95%+) we on a screen width of 1200+, netbooks are now taking off, with a resolution of 1024 wide. my site still looks great on a netbook if you zoom out once (ctrl-minus), but i don't want to rely on users knowing about ctrl-minus. what are my options besides redesign? I'm keen not to have zoom buttons on my page. is there a javascript zoomer outer?!!!

The opacity rollover works a treat, but I'd like my "active" page to have 100% opacity, but I can't seem to get it to work..what am I doing wrong? the link in questions HTML is: <ul id="navigation"> <li class="active"><a href="page.htm"></a></li> </ul> the nav works perfect minus my "active" class so I think I provided all the necessary code. thank you.

    I want to make some jQuery that shows some table rows and hides others based on the content of the first table cell in each row. When I click a list item I want jQuery to check if the first letter of the item matches the first letter in any table cell in my markup, if so the parent table row should be shown and other rows should be hidden.   • Align col in a bootstrap collapsable menu

    I got my hands on bootstrap recently and I'm still discovering it. I made collapsable menu from a tutorial online but now that I want to had an image on each entry of my menu that I wasn't expecting. I want my image to be always aligned to the text in the menu but it still getting on top of it. I tried to remove row and col tag and forget about the responsiveness of my menu but it still doesn't work...   • Strange centering problem in Firefox and IE8

    The navigation bar on my site http://hungryathome.net doesn't center properly on Firefox and IE8 Standards mode. It centers properly in IE7 Compatability mode and in Chrome. What's odd is that setting a Margin on the div (id="navlinks") to 4px or more will make it center properly. Any less will result in it being slightly off-center. I changed the values back and forth in Firebug and it's confusing the heck out of me. Any explanation for why that's happening?

    Ok I am making a simulated OS type interface. It should open up windows and have a drag handle. This all works perfectly. Then I added a image for an exit button I floated to the right... this made IE mad and IE screwed with the sizing and positioning =[ I've tried a crap load of things. None of which work.     I was playing around with ASP.NET Web Parts which has a "drop down" div. It's all the way to the right of the page. When I click to bring it up, it goes off the window.     I've built a custom jQuery rotator using just basic animation to rotate the 3 Divs (images). I've built the function and then reinitiate the function using it as a call back.
