  • How can I change a search provider's URL in IE8?

    Now that Google finally allows searching over HTTPS, I switched all my browsers to use https://google.com by default (I documented my effort in my blog). The only browser I couldn't change the URL string in, is IE8. You can either add, remove, or change the priority of a search provider - as far as I've seen. Can anyone suggest a way to change the default search behavior in E8 to go to HTTPS? Thanks.

  • Firefox in popup window (no address search bar) ctrl-k navigates to google

    In firefox hitting Ctrl+K takes you to the search bar (all fine and good). However in my webmail client (Zimbra) it pops open windows without the address/search bar. Hitting Ctrl+K there (muscle memory from Outlook Web Access) navigates immediately to google.com - hitting back doesn't work from there (Zimbra's all screwed). Is there anyway to disable Ctrl+K navigating to the search provider without changing the normal Ctrl+K to the search-bar behaviour when the search-bar is present? Or better yet force it to actually pop up the search-bar - or highlight in my main browser window's search bar?

  • Google SMTP settings not sending email

    I am having a hard time making the email sending in GitLab to work (changing email in profile settings). My server has exim4, I can tell its working because if I do simple mail() in PHP, it thus sends the email to the recipient. Now, in GitLab seems that it wasn't. So I modified productions.rb to have SMTP settings, and use Google SMTP: config.action_mailer.delivery_method = :smtp config.action_mailer.smtp_settings = { address: "smtp.gmail.com", port: 465, user_name: "[email protected]", password: "hashpassword", domain: "gmail.com", authentication: :plain, enable_starttls_auto: true } I even tried changing the port to 587 and 467 but still it doesn't work. Why is that? Can you please lead me to where I am missing?

    I am having a strange issue with Gmail and Google Apps... have a look at this screenshot: http://cld.ly/f51ume notice the missing images for the rounded corners? Well this is not such a problem but something similar to a cache issue is causing this as well as no background image, but MOST IMPORTANTLY chat and other "clickable" features aren't working. I've already cleared my cache multiple times and quit and re-started Firefox with no change. Everything is OK in other browsers. Any other debug suggestions?

  • Google and Gmail only work on one laptop and not the other two

    We have Comcast internet and everything was fine until recently. I am currently using my father-in-law's PC, and Gmail, Paypal, and Google all work fine. They don't work on my laptop or my husband's. We've reset the router/modem several times and nothing works. So we unplugged the main line outside and it fixed it for two weeks but now it's back to being stupid again. We've tried everything else and nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

  • rsync without password, none of google (server fault) tutorials worked

    I need to use rsync for a daily backup operation and in the past (on different servers) I managed to just use a rsa key etc, but now none of google (serverfault) tutorials work at all. It keeps asking me for a password. I have webmin and ssh/root access to both servers. My steps: create a key on server 1 send key.pub to server 2 add key.pub to .ssh/authorized_keys chmod 700 .ssh/authorized_keys go back to server 1 and try rsync and it keep asking for password... rsync command: rsync -avz -e ssh file.txt root@server2:/root EDIT: well, I cleaned up everything and this time, instead of inserting a custom name to the key I used the standard one on server1. sent the .pub to server2 and it worked as a charm... So the answer is that server1's ssh wasn't even using the right key...

    I get a black screen on Windows 7 right after opening Google Sketchup or Minecraft. I presume there are other applications that cause this too - but I have not tried to open them. The window initially stops responding for a few seconds, before I get a black screen and my Skype call ends abruptly. I have tried waiting for a few minutes but nothing happens. I have to power down my computer and then boot it up again. This is becoming an annoyance, and I don't know what's causing it. Here are my specs, if it helps: My graphics card is an ATI RADEON XPRESS 1100. If you need any more info or if I've missed anything please ask. Thanks :-)

  • Tracking down laptops Google has never heard of

    Using MS tools to get information on PCs using our software, our customers have sent several Lenovo systems which have names we simply cannot find using Google... no search results at all. Considering these names/ids are returned by querying the system directly, not asking the customer to write it down by looking at the box, this seems odd. The ones we have so far (more than one of each) are: Lenovo 2241BL9 Lenovo 6463Y4H My guess is these are Thinkpads after Lenovo took over the brand, but can anyone help me out with this detective work? edit: the 2nd one does turn up some driver downloads and this page, but it's unclear what any of that means.     I used google.map api to develop a project which works well on android 2.1. But when I run the same project on android 2.2, it encountered some errors.     I’m using dotnetopenauth 3.2 to implement Openid and can’t figure out how to get Google to pass the email address in the Claims Response. I know that Google doesn’t support simple registration, but I can’t determine what they do support. Caveat to this question is that I just started learning OpenID and I know I don’t have a solid grasp on the specification which I think is leading to my confusion. Any help would be appreciated!
